Am I the only one who likes that Mystery doesn't have a *open* backstory. All we know is that she was the princess who married Elktaur's human half for a decade, then found out about his lies & spent many more years exiled in Centaurworld.
We also know she was so engrossed with CW's magic her hair turned purple, but her appearance was still very realistic. It was until after decades of living in centaurworld her face became a little cartoony but not too much because of her cynicism. I feel like that gives us the audience a chance to create our own interpretations of what she was up to during that time. We're given just enough important details to piece together the story but also room to develop our own conclusions.
That said I think it was cool for the show allowing her to kill Elktaur. As much as I love the Elktaur Lives AUs, he was too far gone to be saved. But also Mystery needed her revenge/justice and wasn't punished by the story doing so. After feeling guilt & regret for so long she finally had enough and say "no this is YOUR fault and YOUR FAULT ALONE". She took back her agency from the abusive love triangle she didn't ask for, and I think that's such a wonderful lesson for everyone.

With the end of TOH not only capping off Disney's "loose Trilogy" with Gravity Falls, & Amphibia, it pretty much marks the end of this Golden Age of Original Children's Cartoons with Heavy syndicated storylines that started back with Adventure Time. While I don't discredit show that aren't syndicated stories or even the "brand cartoons" Like Star Wars, Transformers, or TMNT there was something magical about seeing people come up with original tales from stuff they were big fans & grew up on to create a whole era that made it cool for adults to have these theories, Excellent fanart, & to be something more then what we were used to in our youths.
I can only hope I'm wrong & one day we'll see another TOH or Steven Universe or Kipo, or Centaurworld, or Adventure Time, or Regular Show, or etc. But with recent events it leaves me less enthused. But I'll still cherish that the 2010's to the early 2020's was this marvelous & revolutionary age for TV animation.

I love it whenever creators of animated shows are given the opportunity to voice act in their own show, and end up playing the silliest little creechur imaginable.

One example of how generational trauma manifests can be seen through the prevalence of ‘Not Deer’ trope. The roots of this phenomenon can be traced to ‘Princess Mononoke’, in which an entity first presumed by the viewer to be deer later reveals itself as creepy human faced eldritch horror [1].
Tumblr media
Children who experienced this existential horror at a very early age unconsciously carry it on into adulthood, become artists and animators and create more media with creepy ‘Not Deer’ things, thus passing on their trauma to the next generation [2].

You want a good monster for your animated project? Does it need to represent corruption of some sort?
You just need a goopy deer.
Step 1: Get a deer.
Step 2: Draw it wrong.
Step 3: Make it real goopy.
Voila. Perfect monster to give children nightmares .

I love being obsessed with cartoons because it always reminds me of my goals in life. Whenever I have an art block or just feel like I'm not good enough I watch cartoons because they bring back the feeling of wanting to achieve my dreams. From old princess movies to anime, from dumb loreless cartoons to cartoons full of secrets which you may never find, the emotions, the characterizations, the looks, the fans, everything just keeps me going. People CRYING, LAUGHING and just over all ENJOYING cartoons brings me so much fucking happiness, and it keeps me on track. I don't want to ever forget why I'm here. The reason I made it so far. I want to become an animator. I want to be a part of making something people of all ages enjoy. I want to create.
I couldn't be more thankful to anyone who's been part of ANY kind of cartoon/animated movie/anime. You keep me on the road to become like you. Thank you.
