Okay so we were all memeing about how Garp has troublemaker grandsons and Sengoku has Law but Tsuru must be proud of her granddaughter being an upstanding Marine and now we find out she had no idea that Kujaku went to invade Blackbeard’s home base with Garp to launch a rescue mission. So maybe all of them are on the same level after all.
Also hi, Hina! Always nice to see you!

Chapter 1082 — Let’s go and claim it!
It’s getting annoying with how people don’t respect the publishing schedule at all with respects to the leaks. Spoilers have been out for over a week already when the official release is this incoming Sunday. I had to double check on Shueisha, and yes, 1082 is out on the 7th.
It’s like… you’ll still have to wait for the next chapters, y’know? There will be a break at some point, so why not just accept the pace we’re going at?
Oh well, I digress.
On to what you’re here for!
(A word of warning: this will be a jumpy analysis.)
Tumblr media
What a horrible way to start the chapter :(
Although a minor side-bob, I really liked T-Bone. And yes, that’s why Oda killed him off: to show how well the Cross Guild’s plan is working, pitting civilians and pirates alike against the marines.
Although only some enlightened marines see it. Others are wilfully blind.
I wonder, Sengoku, I really do. The name Ohara doesn’t ring a bell? Flevance? Alabasta? Dressrosa? All the people on Sabaody sold in the human shops? The people in the Blues, extorted by worms like Nezumi? Egghead, a governmental island that’s going to be blown to kingdoms come as soon as Kizaru gets there?
Tumblr media
Tsuru is truly a great strategist, able to see all sides, although she loses some points for still condemning the culprit…
Tumblr media
…through whose eyes we see the devastation.
And Buggy is such a great showman! He does know how to get his people roaring..
Tumblr media
..except for his oldest and dearest who are happy to listen to him being tortured.
Shame. Shame on you.
Tumblr media
(This is totally on you, Mihawk and Crocodile. You saw what the devotion of his fans did to the Cross Guild poster and yet you let them create the ship?)
Tumblr media
The ship is beautiful. I wonder what it’s called.
And now we learn about the importance of communication, boys and girls:
Tumblr media
Shanks: Why don’t you share your reasoning with your old friend Buggy?
Buggy: Why do you assume Shanks wanted you to become a subordinate when he said “join me”? And why don’t you talk with Shanks about your and his dreams and see if you can find some common ground, instead of burying your own dreams because you thought someone else had a better shot at achieving them?
I really like Buggy vocalising his dream.
Tumblr media
And the strategic genius of rallying the troops.
Yes, almost all pirates we’ve seen have been touched by Roger and the dream of the One Piece one way or another. It’s a great move to remind them of it — now they’re part of your crew and you, Great Chairman Buggy, obviously have a chance.
And rallying the troops keeps your bosses from killing you.
And, of course, the sheer romanticism of Buggy. He still believes, deep within, doesn’t he?
And the second part – it's nice to get some new faces and Koala my beloved, but:
Tumblr media
WHAT HAPPENED? PLEASE, FINALLY TELL US!
I assume we’ll be going back to Egghead next chapter since we’ve been gone for quite a while and thus Sabo’s revelation will be left a cliffhanger for the upcoming year or so.
Such is story pacing and weekly cycles.
But then.
Oda’s line art.
It’s getting worse and worse. I really hope they finally convince him to let an assistant take over the inking, because this is not good.
Tumblr media
Sure, the assistant-drawn neat backgrounds save a lot, such as in the above Tsuru/Sengoku-panel, but One Piece is still a character-focused story, with a lot of personal close-ups. And Oda’s lack of time (and probably weakening eyesight and increasing age) is showing so clearly.
There are so many who would love to help Oda create this masterpiece. Please, let them help.
Transport chapter, but I give it a dream come true and a wish upon a star.

Paw Patrol: Chapter #1
Tumblr media
Summary:
The fact that Nia was a wolfie made Reyn’s sister hiss when he told her during nap time. Reyn and his twin sister Caspiana who went by Cas, were weretigers and felines just did not mix with lupines. Everybody knew that, and they kept their distance without making it obvious. They both knew it was better and safer for them not to reveal their statuses. Daddy taught them that. So, despite knowing their daddy was better, Reyn ignored the girl as did Cas.
AO3 Link
@badthingshappenbingo
Prompt: Social Anxiety
Little Reynard, who went by Rey or Reyn for short, was so proud of his daddy. His daddy was the bravest, the smartest and the most awesome daddy ever. His daddy owned a store that helped magic people, bookworms and people with medicine thingies. He helped a lot of people no matter what and that made him the best daddy ever.
He even made peanut butter and apple jelly sandwiches for their lunches and packed apple juice as well as freeze dried apples. Daddy knew how much the twins loved apples. It was their first day of first grade and Reyn was excited. Daddy even made them pancakes for breakfast. He was the bestest daddy ever.
It didn't matter to Reyn if Lycaonia, who went by Nia, said her daddy Peter was better. She was wrong. Uncle Izzy, Uncle Jax, Uncle Theo, Auntie Ally and Auntie Liddy always told Reyn how brave his daddy was. So why did this girl think her daddy was better? Then he found out she was a wolfie and it was easy to tell. Nia didn't cover her scent like daddy taught Reyn and his sister to cover their scents.
Cas ended up going to the nurse's office after lunch, not feeling good. Reyn was a little worried about her. He didn't like it when they weren't together, but he knew she got anxious sometimes. Daddy had some social anxiety too, but Cas's was worse than daddy's. Their daddy helped both Cas and Reyn understand what social anxiety was and how to cope with it. Reyn thought his daddy was so smart. So, he hugged his sister and once she was inside it was just him left to face Nia's taunts.
They bickered constantly on the playground about who should be what, what they should play and more. All they seemed to do was argue. It made Reyn even more sure that felines and lupines were not meant to be friends.
As the first week passed though, Reyn decided to at least attempt to be friends with the girl as he had noticed she didn't play with anyone else or talk to anyone else. It made him a little sad cause he at least always had his sister, his twin but Nia didn't. Plus, their daddy became friends with Uncle Jax when they got older but when he was little, they hadn't liked each other at first at all. Uncle Jax had been very mean to daddy, but then they became friends. So, maybe he and Nia could try. Reyn suggested they play Paw Patrol.
She agreed, kind of surprised he had asked but then put her nose in the air and demanded the dalmatian. Reyn was upset because that was his favorite character, and he had a stuffie dalmatian at home. The inability to share or trade off started an argument between them about who could be what.
It grew louder and louder until a fight broke out. Lycaconia was left with not even a scratch and little Reyn had cuts all over his body as well as a bruise. Nia wouldn't stop attacking him and Reyn, despite his fast healing, couldn't quite keep up with her claws. She was kinda scary but not as scary as daddy could be.
Stiles and Peter showed up after the principal called them. Peter was smirking, proud that his little girl won the schoolyard tussle.
Stiles smiled softly at his son and knelt down to cup his cheek. "Jestem z ciebie dumny, Kit Kat," he whispered. (I'm proud of you, Kit Kat.)
Peter didn't get how the whiskey eyed man could be smiling like he was proud of his son when said son so clearly lost the fight. So, he rolled his eyes, oblivious to the crushed look on his daughter's face. He didn't, however, miss the glare on the other little girl's face directed at his daughter when she hugged the little boy. That little girl must have been the boy's sister.
Later, when they were leaving, his daughter didn't take her eyes off the boy.
Peter noticed this and asked her about it as they drove home. "Now you know that I don't encourage fighting, but you were protecting yourself, I'm sure. So, why are you so quiet?"
She chewed her lip and sighed. "I was wrong, Daddy. Reyn was right."
"What do you mean?"
She looked at him in the rear view mirror. "We were fighting about whose daddy was stronger. I said you were definitely stronger than his daddy. I told him that meant I was stronger than him, but he refused to accept that. He was so defensive of his daddy I told him that if he's so tough he had to prove it. He didn't and suggested we play a game instead. I started trying to goad him. H-He let me, Daddy. He just took it and I got angry. Why didn't he fight back?"
Peter felt tense. "Maybe he's human and you were too rough, pup."
She shook her head. "He's not a human, Daddy. I swear but after what I did, the least I could do is not out him or his daddy."
Peter drove the rest of the way home in silence. When he lay awake that night, he kept trying to remember everything he could about the whiskey eyed man but at the time he'd been proud of his daughter and scoffed at the other man being proud of a loser son.
That thought made Peter's stomach churn violently and he barely made it to the bathroom before he emptied his guts into the porcelain bowl. Fucking Hell. The kid was his daughter's age and here he was thinking of him as a loser, thinking poorly of his father. No wonder his daughter—Peter rinsed out his mouth and started planning what to do to fix things. He also found himself overflowing with curiosity about what the man and his children were if they weren't human.

I’m glad we get this expanded flashback with Shanks and Buggy because it does explain at least a little more of how their relationship went from Shanks being willing to give up going to Laugh Tale to take care of Buggy to the way they are now, but it also shows the difference between their characters and how they think. Buggy’s very impulsive and his way of dealing with Roger’s death was to immediately want to go look for what he didn’t get to see with Roger while he was alive, while Shanks is far more of a pragmatist and needs his own time to process Roger’s death and isn’t going to rush into something like this before he feels completely ready.
And while it might not seem like a big deal since Shanks still hasn’t let go of the idea entirely, they’re both young and dealing with a lot of emotions so Buggy uses that and his ever-present reasoning of this treasure map that Shanks ‘caused’ him to lose to fuel the anger and resentment that he was feeling about Shanks essentially betraying the hopes Buggy had for him, and those feelings are still seemingly there even decades later.

Chapter 1083 — By Any Means Necessary
Ooo, it’s nice to be wrong. Sabo is spilling the beans already, no more wait for us!
…sure, the original wait since Cobra’s death was announced has been, what, five years (checked: not even a year? We truly are in the endgame now) but still. Happy with the recent information overflow!
First things first. I know that Oda plays fast and lose with the height of people, and it's… confusing to see it play out in reality, as here, where Sabo, Dragon and Iva-chan are seated around the same table, on similar-looking chairs.
Tumblr media
Just a refresher on heights (according to the OP wiki):
Sabo – 187 cm (6'1½")
Dragon – 256 cm (8'5")
Iva – 449 cm (14'8")
Tumblr media
Iva is almost 2,5 times as tall as Sabo. And you say they sit at the same table? I doubt.
I'm sure most things are custom in the OP universe, but here either Sabo must feel like a child (in the topmost picture his elbows aren't really aligned to the table as you would expect at a good meeting table) or –the more likely explanation since you can see the top of Dragon's knees almost jut over the top of the table– Dragon and Iva are feeling like they are attending a childrens' tea party.
Tumblr media
… we have enough high-stakes opponents. We really don't need any more.
Were they mentioned at the courtyard scene, when Saint Carlos tried to kidnap Shirahoshi? I only remember normal guards and bodyguards there, but who knows.
Tumblr media
…you just said the Nefertaris were one of the good ones? Do you just want to tear down everything, even though the Nefertaris hada. reason for not joining the other Celestial Dragons 800 years ago? Or do you just not know about that?
(And it doesn't fuel the flames of rebellion if you kill indiscriminately, you know? Especially a beloved monarch like Cobra? His people will probably just close the ranks behind Vivi, and other potential rebellions will just question your true goals – or if you try to replace one bad system with an even worse one.)
Tumblr media
Obvious Prediction: The Five Elders (or their lackey) killed Cobra, Sabo was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
More information about Karasu! My gothic fave!
Tumblr media
Interesting way he uses his fruit.
And not to be like that, but…
Tumblr media
…why are CP9 back?
And why did they get a promotion after the Water 7 fiasco?
(I love love love Fujitora)
(…I really want to write something about the Celestial Dragons and their literal head-in-the-clouds…)
Tumblr media
I'm sure we'll get to see how Shirahoshi got saved (again) from Saint Carlos, but it'll also be interesting to see how Sabo managed to get him away from atop quite a high cliff in the state he is in. The other Revolutionary Captains were on Kamabakka before him after all, so he didn't get any help from there.
(The last panels of this particular page were also interesting: was he talking to Shirahoshi, or was she just a visual reminder? Did he meet Bonney? Why was she on Egghead – did she try to follow Sabo and Kuma to Kamabakka?)
A ~subtle~ marker of Cobra's worsening health. "It's fine we killed him off for a Noble Purpose, he's dying, he'd die anyway before long."
Tumblr media
Oh no, he didn't get his wish of seeing Vivi married before he died :(
Interesting chapter! I give it The Second Whodunnit Of The Arc and A Tea Party From Hell.

What’s so fascinating about shuggy that makes you go this wild? Aren’t shanks completely over this guy? And buggy just bitter? Am I interpreting it wrong?
I'm not gonna ask whether you want the short or the long version, because I'm gonna give you the longest, gayest version no matter what you tell me. So. Yeah. I think I'm kind of crazy about them but in a very normal way (I just lied on the internet). I'm gonna answer your last three questions before actually getting into the subject of why Shuggy makes me go so wild:
(Spoilers: manga ch.1082 and that Wano flashback)
Shanks being "completely over this guy" would be a very simple way to put his feelings for Buggy into words, I think. Although the fandom exaggerates the way he feels for him (turning into obsession and just complete depression) for fun or for angst purposes (I must say I don't really dislike it and I do believe Shanks still holds Buggy close to his heart in this way, and if we talk in a shippy way, he's definitely the clingy one) I think Shanks isn't completely over Buggy. At least not in the cynical way some people say. I think that after parting ways, Shanks accepted Buggy leaving him. I don't think he quite understands his reasons (he never will, tbh) but accepted his decision. I think he tried to choose the more mature way (not that he had other options) and moved on. But moving on doesn't mean forgetting or being completely over someone, because I wholeheartedly think that even if Buggy isn't on his mind 24/7, he's still one of the most important people in Shanks' life and story. Buggy is there in the back of his mind like a catchy song you can't get rid of, you know? It itches sometimes, too, but Shanks can't do anything about it so he just lives with it. To Shanks, he would gladly reconnect with Buggy and go back to the way they were in the blink of an eye, but he knows it can't be. I think Shanks has moved on but the second somebody mentions Buggy he goes into nostalgia mode and thinks about their times together back when they were just kids with endless dreams aboard the Oro Jackson. I think Shanks has more things to worry about than his past to be the way the fandom portrays him, but that doesn't mean he has completely forgotten about it and doesn't want Buggy back. Because he definitely does.
Buggy is- He isn't just bitter. I don't think you can say Buggy is just bitter when Shanks' decision was what determined his whole life. Leaving the thing about the map and the devil fruit aside (which also affects the story but we know his resentment isn't really about that) Buggy has every right to feel the way he does towards Shanks. Perhaps it's just that I find this pathetic clown to be very relatable, but I will always be both a Buggy apologist and defender. I'll probably get into a more detailed version of this later, but Buggy isn't just bitter. Buggy is rightfully frustrated at how his life ended up to be without Shanks. "But he's the one who left Shanks"... Is he, though? He did leave Shanks physically, but Shanks was the first to break the relationship. The thing about Buggy that I absolutely love is how his character portrays envy and jealousy into a... I wouldn't say healthy way, but at least not a damaging way to Shanks. Despite fighting all the time, they obviously loved and cared for each other. Being best friends and the youngest of the crew, always together in both the worst and best of their moments, etc. So Buggy, even though he lived as Shanks' shadow, that isn't why he's resentful towards him. He could be angry about that, right? Just bitter Roger chose him to keep his legacy alive instead of him. But no. Buggy chose to follow Shanks instead because he trusted him. Because he thought "Well, I might not be able to follow my dream, but Shanks will do it for us as our captain's legacy". Which makes sense because they were so damn close. They're always together. Like. Just watch/read the Oden flashback. Their presentation was even together, lmfao. And when they talk about them, they mention them together. The whole thing about Shanks not going to Laugh Tale to take care of Buggy? It's just- It's just so obvious that they were best friends and intended to be together forever. Buggy was willing to follow Shanks until the end of the world until Shanks hesitated when asked about following Roger's steps (Buggy doesn't actually say he'll be in Shanks' crew, but the way he reacts to Shanks' words makes me think he would've accepted to go with him as a co-captain until... Well. Yeah. That happened). And like, I get it. Shanks knew they were too young. Shanks knew they needed to grow up and live more experiences as pirates before going to Laugh Tale and for the One Piece. For Shanks it's just a little pause before they actually fulfill their dreams. But for Buggy? For Buggy, his whole world is crumbling down because the person he trusted the most literally told him he wasn't going to follow their dream. For Buggy, Shanks doesn't take the role of Roger's legacy seriously enough, so it's unfair. It's unfair that he had to leave his dream behind for him. It's unfair that he trusted him. It's unfair that Shanks didn't believe in himself. It's unfair that their captain died. It's unfair that now Buggy has to be completely on his own, with no ability to swim and no map to follow because Shanks also ruined that for him. So, yeah, Buggy is a bit more than just bitter, and rightfully so. It's classic miscommunication because obviously, Shanks wasn't going to give up on going to Laugh Tale, but Buggy takes it that way. And he also sees it as Shanks doubting himself and the dream and it's unfair that the one who got the straw hat is the one to hesitate, and the one who didn't get anything is the one who wants to fight for their dream. Buggy is more than just bitter. I know it's played for laughs, but his grudge towards Shanks is deeper than that.
You are not interpreting it wrong, tbh. I think the fandom just exaggerates their behavior and in canon you pretty much have to analyze the characters to fully understand them. If you're not a fan of these two characters, their whole relationship can feel like "Oh, they were just friends in the same crew" even when it's way deeper than that. Although I think chapter 1082 (my favorite chapter ngl I've read it so many times google instantly shows it to me when I look for the page where I read OP) explains what I just said pretty well from Buggy's POV.
So now onto the real question, what's so fascinating about Shuggy?
I'm gonna be honest with you, before writing this I have to say that I have a tendency to love these types of ships. Soukoku (BSD) and Satosugu (JJK) are no exception and they follow the same "former BFFs/partners who turned into enemies and are very very gay". The reason I like these three ships so much is probably because of personal experiences I'm not gonna talk about, but somebody mentioned something very interesting about lesbians/sapphics relating to these ships because we always have this experience about having a really close girl bff that we have a crush on, but since we don't acknowledge the real feelings, it ends up in a very toxic way that leads only to resentment and nostalgia. And, you know, as a lesbian who has been through that I can confirm wholeheartedly that this is why Shuggy is so important to me (considering Shuggy a ship for the lesbians in my heart </3)
Leaving that aside and the fact that childhood best friends to lovers is like my favorite trope, I just think their characters are so perfectly written. And it's surprising because they barely have scenes talking about each other or being with each other (Marineford is Shuggys' Roman Empire atp, although I will always remember that first flashback in episode 8 in the anime. That changed my life fr). But their story is made with so much care and love for the characters (it's obvious Oda likes Buggy a lot) that you can feel it. At least I do. Because although not having many scenes they've completely taken over my heart and soul.
Shanks is a very complicated character due to lack of information and the fact that we know he hides something deeper, but he is, after all, a symbol of hope and dreams. At least for our main character. Shanks is the main reason why Luffy becomes a pirate and there are so many parallelisms between them that I can't count them. I find it so ironic that the symbol of hope and freedom Luffy follows is actually somebody who crushed somebody's dreams and hopes. Talk about irony, right? And then we have Buggy, who's the complete opposite. With Buggy's first appearance (and honestly all of his scenes until the Wano flashback and chapter 1082) we think he's one of the bad guys. And yeah, all of them are like that because they're pirates and yadda yadda. But I'm talking about "bad guy" as in "bad bad person with no hopes and dreams and that is just interested in being feared and powerful". And he is a failguy. A very funny one, too. But he's so much more. And the fact that this comedic relief character that's always played for laughs when it comes to his own misery turns out to be the one who has the biggest of dreams and the biggest of heartbreaks about it? It just shatters my heart.
Shuggy makes me go wild because of Buggy, mostly, ngl. I wouldn't like Shanks this much if it wasn't for Shuggy, probably (I love him a ton outside of his relationship with Buggy, but you know, it makes things a lot easier). I like Shuggy because the topics the ship touches are very emotional and angsty and they crush me completely. Buggy living in Shanks' shadow? Buggy wanting to follow Roger's steps and following Shanks instead because his self-esteem disappeared the moment his captain's legacy ended up on Shanks instead of him? The trust he had in Shanks? The way Shanks hesitates and the way Buggy refuses to follow somebody like that? Buggy running away on his own because he gave up his dream for somebody who doesn't even treat it the way it deserves? It's just heartbreaking. Especially if you have in mind that they just lost the man that raised them.
Buggy then becomes somebody that people make fun of and ridicule, and they don't even think about the possibility of him being part of the crew of the king of the pirates. And when they find out, they can't believe it. They don't talk about this much, but I think that it must hurt so fucking much to be seen this way. He was just as important as Shanks. Roger loved him too. And to this day, being Shanks' shadow still haunts him. I love the angst Shuggy has. It breaks me and I love it.
Then, (and this is something I adore) with the creation of Cross Guild, Buggy has the chance to get out of Shanks' shadow. He's surrounded by two guys who only think about money and stability and business and... It's boring, isn't it? It's not flashy! And I think he has this realization of "this is my chance to prove I'm worth something. This is my chance to actually go for my dream. Mine" because these two idiots keep talking about boring things instead of following their dreams and aspirations and bigger things! And it just shows how much Buggy truly cared about Laugh Tale and the One Piece and how much he has had to wait for it. And this has nothing to do with Shuggy, I just really love this fucking clown.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I love Shanks making Buggy lose the map and eat the devil fruit. Because, okay, in retrospect it feels very stupid because it was a simple accident. But just hear me out- Even though it was an accident, Buggy lost his ability to swim for powers he didn't want. He lost the ability of independence, because what's a pirate on his own if he can't swim? He lost his individuality that night, and we see him depend on others constantly throughout the show. And Shanks mentioning that Buggy is a great swimmer? Oh, fuck you Oda for making me cry so early in the show. Then, the map. He lost his individuality and then he lost the only thing that led him to a future with treasures and his dreams. Then again, losing his independence because he couldn't just go on his own without a map. Fucking great. The fact that Shanks jumps to rescue him the second Buggy starts to drown haunts me at night, too. They're just so-- Ugh.
But Shuggy is not everything about Buggy's resentment and angst. And it's not about Shanks missing him and wanting his best friend back because he doesn't know what happened for him to run away so easily.
It's also about unconditional love, and I am so passionate about that. Shanks care and love for Buggy is something the fandom exaggerates but... These people are not wrong, tbh. Shanks gave up his dream to go to Laugh Tale (postponed it) to stay with Buggy and take care of him because he was sick. Shanks is a very selfless person all the way, and when it comes to Buggy it seems that he doesn't hesitate to put him first (in serious situations. Their usual arguments don't count. They're just stupid, and love to argue and fight like the divorced couple they are). And besides, this happens right in the same episode after Toki gets sick and Oden wants to take care of her but she forces him to follow his dream and leave her behind. Like- What the actual fuck. Ah, yes, parallel the main couple in the Wano arc. I'm sure that's not romantic at all. The difference is that Shanks stayed. And god, does that hurt. Especially when he says they'll go on their own one day, because it shows he cared about Laugh Tale too (I mean, ofc, but from Buggy's POV it's just different).
To end this I also want to say that, leaving the whole deep analysis behind: Their personalities just match. They're funny to watch. They're cute. They have an angsty story behind them. They won't stop arguing like little kids but they care for each other still. They are chaotic. They're just... Perfect for each other.
Hope you liked my tiny essay about them because I could've kept going on and on and on about it, but some people (like me, sadly) have to wake up early tomorrow to work instead of just posting about gay fictional characters (somebody please pay me to do these things and I'll stay on tumblr 24/7).

Buggy x Mihawk x Crocodile prompt: Mihawk and Crocodile's bullying and beatings start taking a toll on Buggy, especially since he's somehow fallen irrevocably in love with both his "business partners". After a incident where Crocodile goes too far and Mihawk actually intervenes to stop him, Buggy falls fully into despair and decides to fully fall into the ocean to certain death. He waits until late at night and sneaks off to the docks. He falls in and expects the end but just as everything goes dark he sees a pair of golden eyes and hands reaching for him. When Buggy opens his eyes again he's very much alive, with Mihawk and Crocodile keeping vigil over him. Mihawk is mighty pissed and Crocodile is uncomfortable in his guilt. They figure things out eventually, messily and all.
Bestie if you didn't read this post, this is for you (as well as some of my other anons/ ppl who sent in requests ) LOL (it explains my shenanigans.)
ANYWAYS!!! Bby your idea...she's giving slow burn...she's giving...make it hurt...She's giving multi-chapter series realness. She deserves so much more than a one shot. She's a star who deserves to shine brightly...and i'm giving her what she deserves LOL. i don't have a title, so fuck it we ball, but consider this a prologue since it just really goes over Cross Guild's past briefly. So for anyone about to read,i'm not telling you how to live your life, but i'm juuuust saying you might want to have read up to like Ch 1082?
Tumblr media
The sounds of canons being fired and screaming can be heard all over the island, and Buggy swears that he’s moments away from having a full blown panic attack. Why now? Why did they suddenly decide to abolish the warlord system? Buggy was just starting to enjoy his newfound power and, more importantly, protection. His men keep screaming at him, begging for him to do something because Buggy’s so strong and powerful, and mighty after all. He sailed the sea with Gol. D Rogers, Dark King Rayleigh, and a young Red Haired Shanks after all. He ‘led’ a prison escape after all. He ‘fought’ in the war after all… He’s the one who’s a former warlord of the sea after all…  Buggy must be a formidable foe, right? Buggy must be able to bring him and his men to victory, right? Buggy can take on some marines…right…?
Buggy watches in horror as a fleet of marines attack his battle ships, sinking them, as they gradually begin to encircle the entire island. Oh, they’re doomed. His men are still yelling at him, asking him questions that he can barely process at the moment because he can’t breathe let alone talk.
“Chairman Buggy, what are your orders, sir?!”
”Chairman Buggy, the marines just sank another one of our ships.”
“Captain Buggy, why are you just standing there?!”
“Chairman Buggy, do something!!”
“Captain!!!”
Buggy’s…Buggy’s got to go, like, right now. He can’t handle this. He doesn’t know what to do, this attack happened so fast… He swears the world government abolished the warlord system just this morning, and they already have marines on their ass. He needs off this island before it burns down and he turns to ash with it. He hopes and prays that he still has at least one good ship that he can escape on, and as for his men…
God, Buggy can’t do this. He can’t do this. The amount of men he controls has grown considerably after the war, and he can’t’ confidently say he can evacuate everyone on the island, not that he thinks anyone wants to leave in the first place. His kids are all dedicated and always willing to fight…(Buggy wishes he can say the same.)
Screw it, he’s calling for that evacuation order.
“Chairman Buggy, someone’s attacking the marines!” Someone’s attacking the marines…? Did Buggy have men out at sea that are now returning home and diligently attacking the marines now that they see the island is under attack? Does he have any allies who were conveniently on their way to visit, when they noticed the marines were attacking them? Is this just another group of pirates who noticed the marines and wanted to make a name for themselves, so they decided to attack them while they just so happened to be attacking Emptee Bluffs Island? Who are the heroes saving Buggy and his children?!
“Hey! It’s Crocodile!”
“Chairman Buggy, Crocodile is here to save us!!”
As soon as Buggy hears that name, his stomach drops. No, why? Why now? Why is this all happening to him now? There’s only one reason why Crocodile would be coming to Emptee Bluffs island, and Buggy…Buggy needs to leave. Forget his men, they’ll be fine, Buggy’s the one whose life is in grave danger. In all honesty, he’d rather be facing the Marines than have to deal with Crocodile’s wrath.
Buggy leaves the tent where he makes all his official announcements to his men, and his men watch him, confused, as he tries to make his escape. Some of them even mindlessly try to follow him, and Buggy doesn’t have the heart to tell the men following him to leave him alone because they’ll just bring unneeded attention to Buggy while he tries to flee. He makes it two, no, three steps out of the tent before he sees him, heading his way. “AHHH!”  Buggy screams at the top of his lungs, instantly, spinning back around on his heels and trying to push through a crowd of men, “Let me through! Let me through!!!” He orders them, trying to get back inside his tent and hide.
“Chairman…What’s wrong…it’s just Crocodile?”
It is not just Crocodile. Do his men not realize how scary this man is? Do they not realize that their beloved Chairman and Captain is moments away from getting his ass beaten? Buggy forces himself through all the bodies in front of him and rushes back into the tent, but it’s too late.
“Running away, Buggy?” He hears a deep, intimidating voice call out from behind him. Ah, so it looks like this is the end of the road for Buggy, huh…? What does he do now, he doesn’t think he can out run Crocodile…
Beg for mercy?
Buggy slowly turns around, waving nervously at Crocodile, “Uh, hey!” He greets him, voice already shaking as he speaks. He’s going to scream, cry, and vomit, and all in that order. “I wasn’t running away… I was just, uh…” he trails off, unsure of what excuse he could possibly use in this situation because Crocodile saw him make a run for it with his own eyes. He notices belatedly that Crocodile has that other tall, slightly less intimidating but still extremely scary, fellow with him…Daz…? They all escaped prison together, didn’t they? And…There’s also…Mihawk? Why is Mihawk with him?
Crocodile’s cold voice brings Buggy crashing back down to reality, “Whatever. Where’s my money, clown?” Where’s his money…right…Right…the money that Buggy borrowed after the war, and most definitely has right now… That money…
(He’s lucky if he even has money for lunch.)
Buggy forces a bright smile onto his face, “Y-your money?!” he repeats, trying to buy himself some more time while he figures out an excuse that’ll save his ass. “Well.. You see.. about that…” he’s just about to start babbling bullshit when Crocodile narrows his eyes at him, giving him the nastiest look. Oh! Okay! “Crocodile, please.” Buggy whines, “Look around, I have so many kids to feed…and… and It’s not exactly like business has been booming…and, and…I just lost my biggest money makers…and…”
Buggy’s never been one to admit his failures,  but this is a matter of life or death, and truth be told, Buggy’s delivery service hasn’t been doing too hot lately, but he just needs a little bit more time! He… He can fix everything, and get Crocodile his money back. “Please, just...Give me a month…” He begs, and Crocodile gives him that look again. Oh, okay! That’s obviously way too much time! “Three weeks, give me three weeks and I’ll have all your money… plus interest…”
Truth be told there’s no way in hell he’d ever be able to repay Crocodile the amount of money he owes him in that amount of time, and he sure wouldn’t be able to pay him interest on top of everything, but he… he just needs an excuse. If Crocodile believes him, then… Then as soon as he gets the chance, he’ll pack up and leave. He’ll dye his hair and change his name, and…
Crocodile scowls at him, “You’re saying you don’t have my money?” Well, no…but, yes… but, no he’s definitely not saying anything like that…what… what he is saying is that he’s broke right now, and just needs a little bit more time… “That’s fine.” Crocodile tells him, despite still having a terrifying look on his face, and there’s a moment where Buggy’s filled with hope.  Is...is his life saved? “I can just sell you.” Crocodile says the words, ‘I can just sell you.’ nonchalantly, and like Buggy isn't human, like…like he’s nothing more but an object, and like his life has no meaning to it. God, what did Buggy get himself into?
“Hey…Hey…Croccy, baby…Hey!” Buggy raises his hands up. Is it hot in here? Is Buggy the only one sweating right now? “We’re friends…remember? We escaped Impel down together remember?!” he stammers, trying to remind Crocodile of all the good times they shared together like….when they… well, uh, there was that one time where they… and then there was that other time when they… Oof.
Buggy is the one using his powers to make himself look ten times bigger than he should actually be right now, but for some reason, he still feels so small especially as he picks up the not so subtle shifts in Crocodile’s expression. He goes from slightly irked, to fully annoyed, to looking like he’s moments away from ripping Buggy to shreds.  “Oh, I remember, but I need my money now. I’m starting a new company and I need that money, clown.” Crocodile announces, and Buggy’s not sure how much longer he has before Crocodile snaps and beats him within an inch of his life. “If you can’t pay me back now, you need to make up for the money you’ve borrowed in other ways. Understand?”
Buggy swallows hard. God, what now? What does he say now? He considers making a run for it again, when all of a sudden an idea forms in his gigantic brain, “Oh!” He exclaims, “I know! I know! I can be your errand boy, or something,” he suggests, “I can work off my debt to you!” Crocodile’s cold, harden expression remains on his face, until Buggy casually stammers out:
“I…I have men who can give your new company the flashiest debut possible! My men can do it all: printing, design, advertisement, you name it…Just please don’t kill me!”
Somehow Buggy survives his encounter with both The Marines and Crocodile…Don’t ask him how, he’s always had the stupidest of luck. It doesn’t matter though, as soon as Buggy gets the okay from Crocodile, he’s looking for the best choice among all his men to design a flyer for their, well, Crocodile and Mihawk’s new company; Cross guild, hm, it’s got sort of a ring to it.
Buggy finds a few of his men and orders them to design and distribute a flyer for Cross Guild, and tells them to make it look flashy…because if it’s not, Buggy can kiss his life and or freedom goodbye.
Okay, that should keep Crocodile off his ass for a couple of days, right…? It’ll take his men a few days to design a breath taking flyer and then distribute it, and then Crocodile will see that Buggy’s actually a really useful guy after all!
That’s how Buggy thought things would go at least.
Buggy’s most devoted followers make a flyer for Cross Guild in a day and a half, taking pride in the fact that they didn’t stop for a break even once during the process, and the results are: Terrifying. As soon as he sees the poster, Buggy knows that he’s doomed and that what little chance he had at surviving and living a somewhat decent life was gone. It’s not like the flyer is poorly designed…it’s just… Buggy’s face is sort of… for lack of better terms... his men made it so that Buggy was in the center of attention while the other two look like an after thought, and that’s…that’s not what he wanted.
Buggy’s just an errand boy!
As soon as he sees Cross Guild’s debut flyer, Buggy feels violently ill again, like he’s going to throw up his breakfast, and he quickly orders his men to redesign the flyer so that Buggy doesn’t get killed, but they...
“Oh, we already distributed it.”
Okay, don’t panic. Don’t panic, maybe there’s time to fix this..or at least run away before Crocodile and Mihawk see the flyer. Buggy exhales a shaky breath, trying to figure out what he’s going to do about this whole flyer situation. Is...is there any way to just…just, make all the flyers go away? No? It doesn’t work like that?
Fuck.
