i've heard lots of times that omniscient reader's viewpoint is a love letter to the reader. it's a message that repeats unrelentingly that you (the reader) are loved. it tricks you into loving yourself. and that's absolutely beautiful, it is!

however, as strange as it is, i think i'm on the other side, i have a different perspective. rather than the message being for me, i see its message and stand by the novel and echo its words out to you too. you are worthy and valuable. we will not forget your story. until you believe it yourself, in yourself, we will cry and cry again: you are loved, and you are not alone.

my experience with the novel is a little different. i find that i'm collecting words not for myself, but for the people around me. i offer them like shiny trinkets. i hope you accept them. i chose them for you because this novel chose you.

A few days had past since Obanai’s death. It felt like the world had gone silent. You had locked yourself in your home in order to cope. You hadn’t step foot outside for the past few days. It wasn’t until a member of the Kakushi delivered you a letter found in Obanai’s home. The Kakushi were clearing out his home after his death and found an envelope with your name on it. It must be important. You rip open the envelope to read it’s contents.

Dear (Reader)

I would never dare to express my feelings about you in person. So, when the time is right, I will give you this letter.

When I first saw you, I was fearful of you because of my past. I didn’t trust you and I avoided you. I feel bad about it still til this day. You wanted to make a good impression, but I shut you down. If I had known you were going to be such an important aspect in my life, I would’ve told myself to suck it up. I don’t know if you know it, but you are so special to me. I’m surprised how you never gave up talking to me even though I was always cold to you. Overtime, I realized that you meant no harm. You really did break down my walls. No matter how difficult it was for you to get through me, you persevered. I’m very thankful for that, and I’m sorry I was so hard on you at times. I wish I would’ve been nicer.

As we got closer, I developed these unexplainable feelings for you. It was like every time you were near, I was calm and at ease. I could relax and not feel so stiffen around you. It was reassuring to be by your side. I never knew if you felt the same way as me. Our friendship is something I place a lot of value in. To lose it would be devastating for me. I would rather lose a limb than to ruin our friendship. So, I kept my feelings aside, even at some point I started denying them. But, I have a feeling that I will regret never telling you. However, in the world we live in, it is not right to have these feelings. It is unsafe and dangerous everywhere. So, when the world is cleared of demons, I will give you this letter. I hope that the feeling is mutual.

Also, earlier in that chapter, I was wondering why Charles would even bother to help in covering up a murder for James if that person that James murdered wasn't so important in the first place. If it was just a "nobody", then he would've just thrown that person somewhere, buried him, or burnt his body and converted it into ashes. Clearly, it all makes sense now. (Also, the red picture gave it away. lmao) AND JAKE, WITH THE TYPICAL "death stare" EXPRESSION WHEN HE FOUND OUT WHO THE MURDERER FOR HIS FATHER'S DEATH WAS??? weh.... no continuation of the group discussion this week. Once again we are going on an unrelated tangent; but one must school oneself in patience. Let's appreciate this chapter on it's own terms together 💪

It shouldn't surprise me any more when a character unexpectedly returns, but I'd wager that many people had completely forgotten about this girl - she doesn't even have an entry on the Komi fandom wiki.

Here she is appearing for the first time in Ch. 258 - Contact Info as a late addition to Komi's second year class. Until this week she had one, maaaaaybe two other appearances. Every dog has her day, and today is Ashitano's.

Girl I think you have some sort of disability or perhaps a chronic illness. You should talk to a doctor.

Fun fact - her name is derived from the title of a 1968-1973 boxing manga called Ashita no Joe. And the way she burns out is a visual reference:

Her father appears to be another visual reference to the titular Joe Yabuki. Oda loves doing references like this (I enjoy it also). With that background information established I will render my opinion - she's alright. Her appearance in this chapter is amusing, if not particularly interesting.

My girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought at first that the Viz Media folks had misspelled 'catharsis', but now I know that 'catharses' is the plural form; meaning multiple instances of catharsis. I am learning so much from this chapter aklksjdnlasndlaknsdlkasd

It's really sweet to see the positive effect Komi has on the people around her - simply by reaching out to people and forming a connection, she inspires further connections and bonds within her community. It's so emoi (❁´◡`❁) and it's exactly how Tadano helped Komi in the beginning; by making that first move and reaching out.

We learned in Emoyama's arc that she didn't have any friends... now she's bring her manga club together (TwT) and soon enough she'll be gay with Sukida (wishful thinking)

Himejoshi 🤝Fujoshi solidarity. I had to put that whole moment here because it's so beautiful to me. Putting aside the questionable habit those two have of writing romance manga about real people, I love this wholesome manga club action. I want a dozen side chapters about these three. I want a spin off.

Emoyama is the salve that has healed the division between a hardcore Girls Love enjoyer and a hardcore Boys Love enjoyer....

Also, of course Sukida witnessed Komorebi and Susumi in the park askdnlaksdnlasd. She has a spidey-sense for yuri.....

Well! That's all there is to say about Ch. 440!! The manga club is the clear standout and I love it very much. Ashitano sent me down a fun little pathway looking into Ashita no Joe so I liked that, too. Hopefully next week we'll get to continue the group discussion.

AITA for trying to help the school outcast?

So, first, backstory. There was this girl (17F) at my school, C, who was a complete and total outcast. She was the target of frequent pranks, and she had this overly Christian mother.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I (17F) participated in harassing C at school, along with the rest of our gym class (I know I am the asshole for that).

I felt really guilty for what I did, so I asked my boyfriend, T (M18) to take C to the prom, both to make up for what I did, and in the hopes it could help make C a part of things.

At the prom, I understand things actually went fine up until T and C were crowned prom royalty. One of my classmates Ch (who was banned from prom for accepting the detention punishment given to us for the harassment), dumped pig's blood on C.

C, as it turns out, has telekinetic powers. And after everyone started laughing at her again, she snapped and wound up killing almost everyone in the gym. Then destroyed our town. 440 people died in total.

Now, everyone (the few survivors and the investigators) think I was trying to set C up (I wasn't).

Though I can't help but wonder if I might be the asshole for not just leaving her alone or just apologizing to her in the first place. I wanted to be sorry in a way that actually meant something, but am I the asshole for trying to help the school outcast (and getting 440 people killed)?

Edit: Yes, Ch and I were friends before all this, but we had a falling out shortly before prom.

“Momily, is Dylan a boy’s name?”

Emily looked up from her phone where she was typing out a quick text message to let Alex know they were on the way home from the park. “Who said it was?” she asked.

DJ shrugged. “Is it?”

“Well, it’s not that simple...” she started to explain.

With an exasperated sigh, DJ stomped her foot. “Momily...”

Emily couldn’t help but smile at her daughter’s attitude, given that it was something she’d definitely come by honestly. “There’s no such thing as a boy name or a girl name,” she explained. “Just like there aren’t boy colours and girl colours, right?”

“Right,” DJ agreed. They walked along in silence for several minutes, hand in hand. Then, “Is Emily a girl’s name or a boy name?”

“I thought we just agreed there’s no such thing as girl’s names or boy’s names?” Emily replied.

Ignoring the reminder, DJ glanced up at her with curious eyes. “’Cause Emily is for girls, but you used to be a boy...”

They’d always been very open with DJ about her transition, though they had to simplify it for her age, and encouraged her to ask questions when she had them. They never wanted her to feel confused or uncomfortable or unsafe when it came to sex and gender.

“Well, Emily wasn’t always my name,” she explained, “When I was born my mom and dad named me Elijah. When I transitioned, I chose a new name, one that fit me better.”

“Oh.” Another long silence. “I like Emily,” she declared at length.

Raising a brow, she asked, “Why?”

“’Cause you’re Emily,” she said simply.

“Do you like your name?” Emily asked, suddenly curious.

DJ thought on that for a long time – so long that Emily wasn’t entirely sure she was going to answer at all. At length, she said, “It’s okay... but I like Clover better.”

“Clover?” Emily repeated. “That’s a pretty name. Where did you hear it?” DJ shrugged again, but didn’t accompany it with a verbal reply. “Tell you what...” Emily continued, “We can try it out and if you like it, maybe we’ll change it. Okay?”

She was only four, of course, so they weren’t going to do anything on the whims of a preschooler, but Emily wanted to make sure that she felt she had a voice in matters concerning her autonomy and if she wanted to change names as frequently as her underwear, that was a small price to pay for having a well-adjusted and happy daughter.
