Exodus 37: Bezalel Makes the Ark of Acacia Wood
1 Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.
2 He overlaid it with pure gold, both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it.
3 He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other.
4 Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.
5 And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.
6 He made the atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.
7 Then he made two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover.
8 He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover.
9 The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.
The Table
10 They made the table of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.
11 Then they overlaid it with pure gold and made a gold molding around it.
12 They also made around it a rim a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim.
13 They cast four gold rings for the table and fastened them to the four corners, where the four legs were.
14 The rings were put close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table.
15 The poles for carrying the table were made of acacia wood and were overlaid with gold.
16 And they made from pure gold the articles for the table—its plates and dishes and bowls and its pitchers for the pouring out of drink offerings.
The Lampstand
17 They made the lampstand of pure gold. They hammered out its base and shaft, and made its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them.
18 Six branches extended from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other.
19 Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms were on one branch, three on the next branch and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand.
20 And on the lampstand were four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms.
21 One bud was under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all.
22 The buds and the branches were all of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.
23 They made its seven lamps, as well as its wick trimmers and trays, of pure gold.
24 They made the lampstand and all its accessories from one talent of pure gold.
The Altar of Incense
25 They made the altar of incense out of acacia wood. It was square, a cubit long and a cubit wide and two cubits high—its horns of one piece with it.
26 They overlaid the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it.
27 They made two gold rings below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it.
28 They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.
29 They also made the sacred anointing oil and the pure, fragrant incense—the work of a perfumer.

Reflecting again on The Brothers Hawthorne made me remember something that I haven't taken into account before. And that is the very sad fact that both brothers had a moment of realization in their respective situations of how different their childhoods could have been if they had the parental figures introduced to them in this book. Grayson, Ch. 72:
“Everything is going to be fine,” Grayson said. He laid a steadying hand on Acacia’s shoulder. To his surprise, Acacia brought her hand up to his and squeezed it. Grayson had the oddest sense that she was trying to comfort him.
Grayson knew suddenly and with stunning clarity that if his father had acknowledged him, if he had spent any time at all here growing up, she would have been the one to bandage his knees.
Grayson and his brothers had bandaged one another's.
Jameson, Ch. 88:
“Why would you do that for me?” The question caught in Jameson’s throat. “Why would you do anything for me?”
“Had I known about you when you were born,” came the response, quiet and deep, like a river gone suddenly still, “I would have done something then.”
Jameson thought about Xander and Isaiah, about what it must have been like the moment his brother had realized that he had a father who wanted him.
My uncle would have come for me. Jameson swallowed again.
These scenes mean so much more when you realize that these chinks in their armor are the childhood version of themselves peeking through the cracks who still very much yearn and crave a parental figure who cares for them just because. However, the young men they are now still think they don't deserve one or that these people don't owe them anything. They don't believe that they are worthy of someone's love in that sense. It feels like they think of themselves continuously as burdens or penances to others and they just can't come to accept that their existence can mean something to someone. This is what was taken from them during their childhood by their grandfather and their mother. But, despite that, now that they are free from either's grasp, the parental figures stepping forward can be very helpful and supportive of them in their young adult lives which are still very tricky times to navigate through. I think that the brothers will finally start letting themselves heal from their lack of proper parental figures and though they'll try to not rely on their other family members who have finally stepped into the light, they will at least admit to themselves that at times it is fine to just be the kid and have that safety net they lacked for so long.

A bird wheeled overhead; a tiny speck in the cloudless sky. The clear, fresh scent of water rose from far below. Acacia leaves whispered in the breeze. Smooth stone warmed in the morning sun. Pix sat back on his heels. Swiped his sleeve across his eyes. Sniffled. Exhaled. Tilted his head back. Closed his eyes. Breathed. It was a beautiful morning to be kneeling on a wonder. — These Stones Remember, Ch. 7
I'm there. I'm actually there. Right now. And I'm actually sobbing.
Thank you, Pix, for this beautiful place <3

Do you wanna talk about your book or is that on lock and key (wouldn’t blame you if it was)
No locks or keys here! At least not for the most part. Obviously, I can't give you the full details plotwise but I'm super down to talk about it.
Sorrow and Storm (working title, I'll probably change it by the time I'm done) is the first planned story in a faerie romantasy-style series. It starts in a human village just outside the Woodlands Between, which is the forest separating the human kingdoms from the faeries of the Seelie and Unseelie realms. The main characters are named Evelynne (usually just called Eve), Soleil, and Acacia. They're my sweeties and I love them all dearly.
Eve is Soleil's older sister and the one who brought Soleil to the village after they left their former home. Soleil is a gifted healer. Magic is a trait that it already very rare in humans and healing magic is even more difficult to find even among the fae which makes her a difficult loss for her parents to take. And because of Acacia's fae ancestry she's able to go hunting the Woodlands without being lost to the everchanging forest protecting the faerie realms.
I'm still pretty early in drafting but I am looking into where to publish just as an ebook or something. Snippet below the cut <3
--- (from Ch. 2)
Eve soon found herself helping her sister load up her mostly empty cart with crates of healing tinctures and salves. As well as Soleil's leftover ingredients. Soleil lingered by the bench in the back of the cart, securing the crates so they wouldn't break on the short trip to the apothecary. Eve passed up the last crate and Soleil found it a spot with the others. She moved to hop out but looked down like she'd hit something.
“What is it?” Eve approached the side of the cart and watched as her sister picked up an old looking book. The leather cover looked rather light, a soft brown that worked well with the shining gold lettering on the front and matched the thread in the binding. Soleil half sat on the edge of the cart and flipped the thing open. Frowning, she flipped a few more pages.
“Is this yours Eve? I don't recognize any of this…” Soleil offered the book to Eve and she was surprised by the tome's light weight. She flipped through a few pages as Soleil had and pretty soon she was frowning at the pages too. It certainly wasn't common. Or any of the languages of the human kingdoms. The characters were completely foreign but patterns were frequent enough to imply that this was indeed a different language. “Hey? Acacia? You mind taking a peek at this?” Eve called over to the front of their home where their friend had stopped to tighten the buckles on her boots. She'd changed into trousers and light tunic, her quiver at her hip as it was most days.
Acacia slung her bow over a shoulder and made her way over to the cart.
“What is it?” She asked and Eve offered her the book.
“Do you know what language this might be?” Acacia took the book a thumbed through for a minute before handing it back. “It's not a human language. But I can't tell if its Seelie or Unseelie. I don't know enough of either to be sure.” She flipped back to the cover and considered the title.
“Can you tell what the title is?” Soleil asked and Acacia grimaced slightly, “I think so..?” She chewed her lip for a moment, “The Book of… Requirement maybe? Or Provision… Provision sounds more right.” She handed the book back to Eve. “Where did you get that?” Eve slipped the book into the bag slung over her shoulder, “I must have gotten  it in town while I was making trades at the market. I can't remember who exactly must have given it to me though.” Soleil lightly bumped Eve's arm with the side of her foot, “Maybe it's some pretentious noble's diary. Or a book of faerie curses.” Eve batted at her sister's ankle, “Don't joke about that. We live too close to their lands to be making jokes about curses.” The book felt a bit heavier in her bag as she considered what manner of object she might have brought to her home. Maybe she should throw it in a river just to be rid of it… “I don't think it's curses. If I'm right about that last word being Provision then it might be something as mundane as an inventory record.” Acacia interjected before long. Eve wasn't sure it was something so inconsequential but she took the opportunity to think about anything else.

when I say “partners in life” I’m not talking about two humans who are soulmates or have good synergy or whatever I’m talking about the ants and the acacia trees, about the acacia’s thorns, born to be the homes of the ants, about the beltian bodies, created for none other than this colony of insects, about the way it becomes their home, their temple, their holy sanctuary. I’m talking about the frogs and the tarantulas, inextricably linked, with the frogs protecting the tarantulas’ young and the tarantulas returning the favor once they are grown. The ones who are so, so fundamentally different from each other and yet still join hands forever in this endless dance, bound together even beyond the trivial barriers of their mortal lifespan

*Claps hands*
I’ll create the oc and her blog. I will not explain much in detail because I’m still plotting out the character, her personality/abilities, the town, lore, creatures, etc. The town is nothing like Fog Hollow. It’s very scenic, and its people are actually quite pleasant if you can get past their strangeness on the night of the Raven Festival and the fact that the town has been locked in eternal autumn since it was first built.
However, I will leave you all with these three things.
1. The town is called Raveryn Falls - Population: 418 ( and growing ) - With all the natural beauty of a typical Midwest town and its gorgeous trees, Raveryn Falls is known for its numerous forests, clever Ravens, and delicious pecan pie! Just be in time for the Raven Festival, and don’t forget to bring an offering!
2. The name of my oc is Acacia Drys.
 Face Claim: Lovie Simone
Tumblr media
She lives in a cute little cottage on the outskirts of town and has been a Raveryn resident for a long time ( longer? ). The cottage fell into her hands when her father died, and after the prodigal daughter returned to the town of her birth to keep the cozy homestead from falling into disrepair, she hasn’t left it since.
3. Many creatures inhabit Raveryn Falls, some benevolent and some...not so.

Note
2, 5, 7, 12, 13, 18, and 20 for Tess
2 - What is their wand wood and core?
Aspen & Phoenix Feather. (also: 12″ long, unyielding)
5 - What subject is their favorite at Hogwarts? Which is their least favorite? Is their favorite the same as their best subject?
Favorite: DADA. She enjoys learning offense/defense and loves the “practice” dueling as they get older, which often gets out of hand and becomes more real than their professors intend it to lol. Least Favorite: Potions, because she sucks ass at it. Best: Charms. It’s not her favorite subject but charms come naturally.
7 - Do they earn more house points or do they lose more?
Earn more, but not by a craaazy wide margin. She has poor impulse control sometimes so she tends to lose them more frequently as a result of hallway spats with schoolyard enemies, but then she’ll catch herself and make a more conscious effort to be discreet as the end of the year approaches - and she’s blessed with enough talent that, with focus, she always earns enough back in lessons to make up for it, because she’s nothing if not competitive.
12 - What is their Boggart? What happens to it when they cast Riddikulus?
Lily’s corpse - not quite an Inferi, but not quite human either, walking talking and blaming her for their parents’ deaths. Losing Lily and being to blame for it is the deepest fear she has throughout the story. With Riddikulus, it would probably turn into something like... a gigantic Raggedy Anne doll, with the same red hair, wiping out on roller skates in an over the top way.
That’s before The Cave (TM). After that it’s just Inferi straight up, and she struggles to get rid of them without help. Like Molly’s boggart in Grimmauld - she’s so overcome by it it just freezes her up.
13 - What does Amortentia smell like to them?
Ironically, given her distaste for the subject... the smells of freshly cut herbs and steaming potions; parchment and ink; crisp clean robes.
18 - Which Unforgivable Curse would they be most likely to use? What would be the reason for it?
The Killing Curse. During the main course of the story (post Cokeworth attack) she is completely willing to kill when she deems it necessary during a fight. If there’s a 100% confirmed Death Eater between her and her goal or her escape route, she’ll do it without hesitation. She might use the Imperius if necessary but she would actively avoid it, and the Cruciatus repulses her - she would only ever use that if overcome by rage and she would regret it after. But the Killing Curse she would and does use without remorse during the war.
20 - Which Deathly Hallow (wand, stone, or cloak) would they want? Why?
This was really tricky because I could see her being drawn to all of three of them at very different stages in her life - young Tess would want the cloak because of the sneaking it enables. Middle of the road Tess would want the stone desperately, because she is haunted by ghosts after the attack. Even if she can’t see or hear them, they’re with her heart all the same. She would want to be able to say goodbye and that she’s sorry to her parents. Older Tess, from partway through the story and at the end, would probably be drawn to the wand the most because of the power it’s supposed to grant. For a girl who knows what it’s like to be completely powerless, and having had to claw her way out of that situation... that power would be a siren call for her.

The Mark || Acacia/Henry
A manila folder was dropped on Acacia’s desk with a flump and she looked up from the computer screen to see her boss, a hawk-like woman with beady eyes staring down at her. “New assignment,” she wheezed in a voice that suggested that throat cancer was not too far off if she didn’t lay off the nicotine. Acacia slid the folder closer to her and opened it. On the front page of the dossier was a picture of her newest assignment and the work up of his background. Henry Koehler AKA Bishop was a hacker they’d been tracking for some time, thought to be in the possession of stolen classified files that implicated far too many people in a blackmail scheme than was safe or even healthy.
Acacia looked up from the picture of the man, ignoring the initial assessment of his looks and leveled a hard glare at her boss. “Cyber crimes isn’t my area, Patrica.” she pushed the file back at the woman and went back to scrolling through some social media that was for another case she was on. This was as close to a cyber crime as she got, they all knew that. “You’re the best we have. We need you on this one.”
The file was pushed back at Acacia and she glared. “Why?” She asked, annoyance clear in her voice. “We have plenty of abled contractors that could take this guy out. I’m not cyber crimes.” Acacia was face to face. She was hand to hand. She was loaded guns and the cold steel of a knife to your throat. She was not a LED lit screen and letters on a keyboard. “You saw the guy... He’s cute but he’s a hacker. You know what they’re like. Anti-social. Probably hasn’t been laid in years.” Acacia held up her hand, maroon talons gleaming in the sun from the large window behind her. “Okay okay, I get it. Find someone else.” The organization was teaming with capable agents, females even that worked in cyber crimes.
“Acacia,” Patrica said crossing her arms. “This is not up for debate. The details of the rendezvous is the packet. Where the maroon pencil dress and the dagger heels. You’re going to look amazing.” Patrica turned and walked out of the office, Acacia calling after her that she was going to look like a hooker.
Three hours later, Acacia was heading toward the meeting place trying to figure out just how she was going to get the attention of a hacker. She knew nothing about computers beyond how to use one at its most basic functions. This was perhaps not the easiest assignment she’d been given but as she stepped out of the car, her long legs looking longer than normal because of the heels she’d been instructed to wear, she slid into work mode. Henry was her job and so he would be treated with that level of care.

Hi starsong
Can you give me a metaphor to describe each of your blorbos?
A fun fact about me is I had to ask for clarification in regards to the term ‘blorbo’. If I’m understanding correctly, a blorbo is any character— be them from an established fandom or your own work— one daydreams about, fixates on, or otherwise turns their mind to for the purposes of escapism and entertainment.
While contemplating this new-to-me word, I encountered a post lamenting the dominance of male-aligned blorbos in fandom spaces. Apparently, it’s more common to see people openly obsess over such characters. I figured I’d do my part to further the female-aligned blorbo agenda by sharing with you the twelve “princesses” from my urban fantasy fairytale retelling.
Without further ado, here are the metaphors I thought up to describe the twelve “princesses” of the story.
Tumblr media
Elowyn is that first crisp, dark breath of autumn breaking through the bright summer haze
Juniper is a crowded bar colored by cigarette smoke, strong liquor, and the glow of crooked neon signs
Holly is the warmth of fresh baked bread lovingly shaped by steady hands
Linden is the ruthless precision of a disciplined artist after decades spent honing their craft
Laurel is a steaming mug of curative tea sipped on a stormy night spent curled up in bed
Rowan is a bold, burning flame of determination in the quiet gloom of despair
Acacia is a sturdy, stolid mountain among flimsy, frantic reeds
Cassia is glossier than the pages of a fashion magazine— the wide, white-toothed grin and flutter of thick, black eyelashes she offers the crush of paparazzi just as artificial
Myrtle is every bit the coiled serpent— poised, beautiful, and unmistakably deadly
Olivia is owlish in her large, round reading glasses, her thin frame perched upon the window seat, an open book clutched in her hands
Willow is that first vivid swirl of paint on a stark, blank canvas
Hazel is a cheery shaft of golden sunshine shattering the dull morning’s fog
Tumblr media
At first, I had the idea to compare each of the sisters to their sacred animal. In Faerie, each being has one, the identity of which depends on birth details and some religion-based world-building derails. After writing a few of the above metaphors, however, I changed my mind. The sisters’ sacred animals will remain a mystery for now. One or two did slip through, though…
Belatedly, I realize you tricked me into writing, Sleepy. Was that your scheme all along? Because it so worked.

Exodus 30: God Gives Moses Orders and Directions on Making an Altar for the Tent of Meeting
1 “Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense.
2 It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high—its horns of one piece with it.
3 Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.
4 Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it.
5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
6 Put the altar in front of the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law—before the atonement cover that is over the tablets of the covenant law—where I will meet with you.
7 “Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.
8 He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come.
9 Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.
10 Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the Lord.”
Atonement Money
11 Then the Lord said to Moses,
12 “When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.
13 Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the Lord.
14 All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the Lord.
15 The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the Lord to atone for your lives.
16 Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the Lord, making atonement for your lives.”
Basin for Washing
17 Then the Lord said to Moses,
18 “Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it.
20 Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the Lord,
21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”
Anointing Oil
22 Then the Lord said to Moses,
23 “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus,
24 500 shekels of cassia—all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin of olive oil.
25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.
26 Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law,
27 the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,
28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.
29 You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.
30 “Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.
31 Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.
32 Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.
33 Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.’”
Incense
34 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take fragrant spices—gum resin, onycha and galbanum—and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts,
35 and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred.
36 Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
37 Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the Lord.
38 Whoever makes incense like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from their people.”

PLOT BUNNY  ―  ACACIA POTTER in ME AND MINE (featuring Wilhelmina Greengrass)
“What’s good for me and mine, and what’s fair for everyone else.”
Harry wasn’t the only child James and Lily had, nor was he the first. Acacia Potter was a happy accident born in December 1977 and was an adorable baby who mesmerized all around her. After the tragic Halloween of 1981, both Acacia and her little brother were given to their aunt Petunia, where they lived with neglect and abuse. When Acacia turned eleven, she saw a way out. With the help of the goblins (she had never really lost the ability to enchant all around her) and Madam Bones, Acacia managed to get herself and Harry out of the Dursley’s grasp. Now all she needed was to survive her seven years of schooling all while trying to help her brother... which might turn out to be more of a hardship than she thought it would be.

“hey, stop it.” dark hues searched his face, concern and sadness woven into porcelain features. acacia felt helpless and lost, any offerings of comfort or words of encouragement momentarily seeming to escape her as she struggled to find the right thing to say. “you can’t keep beating yourself up like this,” she leaned forward, tilting her head and craning her neck, forcing his avoidant gaze to meet her own. “i won’t let you.” there was a firmness to her words, perhaps even a twinge of desperation, but her tone remained gentle overall. comforting others often appeared to be a rather daunting task for the singer, though it wasn’t due to a lack of empathy or even the desire to try. she cared deeply, despite her distant and at times apathetic demeanor. but she was clumsy when it came to wrestling with deeper and more complex emotions, especially when they weren’t her own. but johnny needed someone, even she could see that much. so she reached out, forcing down her feelings of uncertainty to carefully place a hand on his shoulder. “you did a bad thing for a good reason.” she squeezed his shoulder, lowering herself to sit next to him. “you have to remember that. telling yourself anything else... you’re pretty much asking to drive yourself crazy.”
