See, it’s funny, because a lot of the people I see who use the word are explicitly anti-statist and anti-authoritarian.
And it’s also funny that OP said something vague, and then expected people to understand them perfectly, in a post justifying making strong assumptions about other people’s politics because they used a single specific word.
And it won’t surprise anyone to learn that OP has me pre-blocked.

Tag Nine People You'd Like To Get To Know Better Tag Game
I was tagged by @chamerionwrites over Here. I will be tagging no one, for I am where tag games go to die.
FAVOURITE COLOUR(s): As mentioned in the last tag game I completed (here) it's purple! I wear other colours more frequently, but I have a lot of small purple things around.
FAVOURITE FLAVOUR(s): That's hard. I like savoury and sweet at the same time, I suppose, and I like adding some confit garlic into a toastie because it just... elevates the savoury of the cheese with some extra umami. I like a good chai or a medieval spice mix - cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cloves. In the UK they're so often used specifically at Christmas but they're such a good combo all year round.
FAVOURITE MUSIC: I am... bad, at genres. I like what I like and the music I like tends to be... melodic but textured? It's not just one instrument or type of instrument, I like the roughness of a more metal guitar over the smoothness of a rounded backing beat or melodic synth, and I like more melodic tunes than pure beats - this is why I don't gel with a lot of rap or hip-hop. They can be lyrically very impressive, but I listen to music for music, and I've got to be in the right mood for a spoken word poem over a beat. I also just... don't like Musicals in general. I'm not opposed to songs with stories - one of my most-listened to songs is Aviators' Godhunter which is about someone revered by a god who's waiting to be hunted by the person who's killed the rest of their "godly" kin - but I just don't like musicals in general, so musical songs are more miss than hit for me.
FAVOURITE MOVIE(s): Crimson Peak. Guillermo del Toro's films do not miss, and this is the one that dragged me into the gothic horror/romance pit and made me realise that while I don't like standard "thriller", shock-value horror, I like things that go "Hey, isn't this fucked up? Do you want to see how more fucked up it can get?". Things that are aware of the awfulness and don't revel in it but use it to show you and teach you and help you see.
FAVOURITE BOOK(s): Probably the Several on my trauma reading list, honestly, with right now A Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson being tops. For all of you hyped by @theabigailthorn's "Dracula's Ex Girlfriend" announcement who wants something of that premise while they wait, it's a fantastic look at abusive relationships and is told from the perspective of one of Dracula's brides after she and the others have murdered him. Exceptionally good and crunchily fucked up.
FAVOURITE SERIES(es): I don't know, actually. I don't think I have a singular series I enjoy (Well. I did. But then the author went to shit, so it's kind of tainted now). Or- no actually. The Gotham TV Show. Started as a dull as dishwater police procedural set in Gotham and by the time it gets to multiply resurrecting definitely not the Joker you're not sure how it got there but the tonal shift makes perfect sense somehow. Fantastic style, fantastic cast, why are Nygma and Penguin so perfect as bickering, acrimonious exes.
LAST SONG: When I like I song, I listen to it on loop. It is still:
youtube
LAST SERIES: That I actually finished was probably Raven of the Inner Palace which is an extremely good anime! Magical worldbuilding and mystery, slowbuilding relationships and fun court drama. It's like Apothecary Diaries but with more magic, and has a similar style to it's worldbuilding as Mars Red - where that slowly dripfed you information on the vampires and makes a rewatch well worth one's time, this also sets stuff up and lets you start to figure it out as it slips in more lore. Highly recommend it.
LAST MOVIE: As said in the last post - it would be Barbie, last week's film night pick. Was good.
CURRENTLY READING: A book called Old Gods, about Finnish wildlife and folklore. I like folklore a lot, so seeing how folklore affects how people have historically seen the world is really cool!
CURRENTLY WATCHING: The latest dubbed episode of Apothecary Diaries (yes, I watch dub. Sadly, I am bad at paying attention when it's subbed because I like to multitask).
CURRENTLY WORKING ON: Several fic projects. Currently aiming to finish up the Kash backstory fic.

Enemies To Lovers, and/or Lovers To Enemies?
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know
Weirdly, enemies to lovers is both yes and no for me - antagonists to lovers might be a better way to put it? I love it when two people have some kind of (valid) reason to dislike/distrust each other at first, but I don't care for the typical version of the trope. Reylo was the first time I ever shipped a mass media ETL, and a lot of the heavy lifting in that case was done by the Force bond (a "FUCK yes" trope imo) and the actors' chemistry.
Lovers to enemies, otoh, is nearly always top-tier!
[ send me a trope and I'll rate it ]

Heya! I was wondering if I could ask for your help - my work is throwing a breakfast event where we're all bringing something, and I want to be relatively impressive without being ostentatious. Do you have any recipes/dishes that you recommend? When I think of "being impressive yet still welcoming with food" I think of you, so I thought to ask
Honestly the biggest issue here is that....I don't know how to do breakfast things? I mean, I can fry or scramble eggs! Bacon is easy! I figured out how to do fancy steel-cut oats! But most days I just wolf the leftovers from dinner, and then drink coffee until it's lunchtime.
.....that being said, of course I have some recipes for you!
First, if you are thinking muffins or something cinnamon-inspired, I highly encourage you to check out Sally's Baking Addiction. She has a whole section just for breakfast, including some muffins that I would eat in a heartbeat. (Though I still swear by chamerionwrites' scone recipe, if that's what you're looking for...)
As for other, less breakfast-y recipes to try---I brought these crunchy ranch pinchos to the office recently, and Beautiful Coworker tentatively asked if I would mind bringing them again...? Which given how rarely Beautiful Coworker expresses any food preferences is amazing.
I've made this savory ham and gruyere bread before, and it's fantastic. Bring some butter to top, or just serve it plain!
Also, while I personally have never made peach bruschetta, I think that would be a perfect thing to bring to an office potluck---a beautiful bowl of the bruscetta, surrounded by lightly toasted bread, and a cute little bowl of balsamic vinaigrette for serving? Sign me up.
Finally, I will entrust you (.....and the internet) with one of my most treasured recipes. It was taken from the America's Test Kitchen vegan cook book, which I found by and large unhelpful. However, this one recipe was so good, so salty, creamy, and delicious, that I knew I had to keep it forever, even just for myself.
Serve with vegetables or with crackers.

playlist music meme
I was tagged by @brynnmclean in a playlist meme!
Here are the rules:
you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to. put your favorite playlist on shuffle and list the first ten songs then tag ten people! no skipping!
Ten people is...a lot of people. We'll see how many I actually tag when I get to the end of this post.
Okay! So the playlist I'm using I've called Mood Lift - though really Energy Lift is more accurate. This is my dancing/cleaning/soup making playlist. Let's put it on shuffle and here we gooooo:
Opps - Vince Staples & Yugen Blackrock. From the Black Panther soundtrack, love the thudding drums. This one is on a subplaylist in my mind - Songs to Rob a Bank To.
Sidekick - WALK THE MOON. This is just a very happy song for me. Always gets me moving. Bonus as good song for soundtracking a friends to friends-with-benefits who are still pining helplessly sort of story.
Daisy - Fang Island. Someone once described Fang Island music as the feeling you get when everyone is high-fiving everybody else, and this song is really the perfect encapsulation of that feeling.
Shrimp - Dessa. I love Dessa, and this minute-long autobiographical rap won me over with the line, "Always a bridesmaid....NEVER AN ASTRONAUT!" Also, random trivia, this was my pandemic handwashing song.
Handclap - Fitz and Tantrums. Always good for an energy hit!
Liquid Lunch - Caro Emerald. While I've wandered away from it, I did have a steampunk phase, and a takeaway from it is a lingering love of electroswing - expecially this song.
Graffiti - CHVRCHES. Sometimes you just want electronic eighties inspired female fronted goodness, and CHVRCHES always delivers. Even if I do have to spell the band name out three times to get it right.
bad guy - Billie Eilish. Also on the Songs to Rob a Bank To playlist. It's the snapping. Love a song with a menacing snap.
Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna. Gets me dancing!
Ballroom Blitz - Sweet. So, fun fact about me. I make toffee sometimes. And toffee making requires that you vigorously stir a pot for twelve straight minutes. Ballroom Blitz is the best song I've found for getting through the 7-11 minute slump. It's even got a scream in a good spot for when the sugar mixture starts to thicken and it feels like my arm is going to fall off.
There you have it! A mix of songs on my high energy playlist.
Okay, tagging people. @virusq, @tobermoriansass, @chamerionwrites, @boogerwookiesugarcookie, @islandbetweenrivers - if any of you are interested, I'd love to see it!
And I also tag YOU, person reading this who wishes they had been tagged. Tag me if you do it based on this post!

For the WIP title meme, if no one else has asked - Self Indulgent Dystopia, and/or Tested Loyalties?
(WIP title meme)
Self Indulgent Dystopia - oh my, this one. It’s a Dracula fic I started literally twelve years ago (I said I never delete things) and actually wrote a sizable chunk of before abandoning it in overwhelm at how much exposition it required.
It’s a very ridiculous YA dystopia style AU where the whole story of Dracula takes place in a world where vampires are in political control, and so our heroes are running a very small and dubiously effective underground resistance movement.
I think the ‘vampires rule the world’ trope is hilarious and sort of fascinating as both a blatant extrapolation of the implications of the ‘vampire as aristocrat and/or capitalist’ narrative, while also being a reversal of the ‘vampire as outsider’ trope. The world-building fun of that was always one of my favorite parts of Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula series, and I thought he missed a lot of opportunities there. This story was an attempt to play with that, but it took a lot of work for something that was ultimately a gimmick. I eventually did a brief and less world-building intensive Dracula dystopia that more directly riffed on Newman in Countermine.
I said I wouldn’t do excerpts, but I’ll break my rule for this, because I do sort of want to share the ridiculousness with all of you. Warning for non-graphic description of torture/execution, and also for something that is definitely not my best craftsmanship as a writer:
The man who was that day ordered to be executed had been convicted of possession of a crucifix, and when his crime was described Mina felt a sudden flare of fear and nausea, remembering the box of crucifixes hidden under the floorboards of the office shared by Jack and the Professor. The details of the execution bothered her, as they always had even before she knew enough to call them by the name wrong; the prisoner, in his nondescript clothing, led up the stairs to the wooden platform by several of the Guards, mortals who had agreed to work against their own species in exchange for a substantial salary and lifetime freedom from the fear of being bitten. The reading of the crime in emotionless voices, and then the slow death of the prisoner, the steady drip of garish blood onto the wood. But none of that was what made her furious. No, what made her most angry, what made her want to fill her arms with crucifixes and garlic and wooden stakes and run through the streets screaming, was Jonathan’s reaction when the official torturer and executioner, Count Vlad Dracula, stepped out onto the platform.
Like, look at that! Look at the YA tropes!
Tested Loyalties is Dangerous Liaisons fic, the Valmont/Tourvel/Merteuil story I have always dreamed of writing. My problem with this one is that it really needs to be quite sexy in a way that I’m not sure I can pull off.

Your posts about Queen's Shadow and the Jedi honestly give me life (and make me feel like slightly less of an Old Man Yells At Cloud meme when I rant about space politics and wonky narrative framing), and I'm tempted to quote you every time SW fandom is being silly about these things because you summed it up with blunt elegance: "Please don't argue in favour of swallowing narrative framing uncritically as a rule, that's fucking stupid."
(replying only now because i fell asleep and then yesterday the fucking sheep ran down the fence. i fucking hate sheep and i’m pretty sure the ram wants to kill me) same honestly, like you do the best CIS meta -- they made me think. and tbh i don’t think i could have really lasted in the fandom if i’d felt it was just me, well, yelling at a cloud about narrative framing and the like. that’d be really frustrating, and not half as fun or interesting. it’s so much better to have people to share that with
(i really want to go back to Queen’s Shadow! like the break from all things SW wasn’t planned and as much as i needed it, i still have a lot of ranting to do when it comes to that book, and it’s great to know i have people to share my yelling with)

🐌 What is one of your smallest writing goals?
Good question! Last year I'd probably have said to be less generous with my comma usage which deeply annoyed at least one of my beta-readers on a consistent basis. For this year though...
I don't know? Most of my lingering goals are bigger - to be more willing to make divergences from canon that require me to rewrite the plot, for example, and to actually come up with wholly new plots on my own. I do have a few projects that would encourage me to do that, but they are mostly not Critical Role fics, and CritRole is my current pit. That said, there are a few CR WIPs that would allow me to work on these, and they are ones currently holding my interest so! Fingers crossed.

📚 Tell me about your fic daydreams!
I love to daydream long, immersive epics about Jedha: lots of worldbuilding and lore about all those pilgrims and catacombs and massive ruins half-buried in the desert. Creeping political tension as the Imperial occupation slowly tightens its grip while Bodhi grows up, possibly interwoven with the same story from the perspective of Chirrut or Baze.
I've written a small chunk of it set pre-Rogue One (about Baze returning to Jedha and reuniting with Chirrut after the desecration of the Temple) which might actually be posted some day.
Thank you!

Bro thanks for d scones recipe it was bangin'. Added a bit of sugar when I make the blueberry ones but kept it the same as ur recipe when I use choc chips. 10/10 bro thx v much
All credit to @chamerionwrites, since that scone recipe is actually theirs! And I’m happy to say it’s still a divine thing---I just made delicious savory cheddar scones with it, by cutting out the sugar and swapping butter for bacon fat.

🔥 Serve me up whatever salt you are currently most itching to rant about!
Ok so: honest to God I intended this to be fannish--maybe something about the complete linguistic butchery of "representation" which could still be a fun post to do. But right now, here at one A.M., when I finally have a chance to answer this, I'm salty as fuck about the American health care system. Specifically, the total lack of dental coverage for low-income adults, and how, due to completely inadequate coverage, charities are trying to fill a hole for a huge chunk of the population that's so vast that the rest of the fortunately covered have a wide variety of carriers and options, precisely because! of what a market it is.
The 2011 census, something like 46 million people live in poverty. Now, you can chop about eighteen million out of the dental pool, cause they're under eighteen, and thank fuck that even in deeply red states, those people's dental are covered. (Now, I'm speaking very specifically from a red-state perspective, and I pray it's better than this in blue states.)
In your typical red state, you're fucked once you pass eighteen in terms of dental care. And dental care without insurance is...I once had a family member who was reasonably financially solvent do me the extreme kindness of paying for a filling at a reputable dentist. We walked out the door, and they looked me dead in the eye and said: "That's the last time I can do that. It's completely wiped out my emergency funds for the next couple months."
I've been having ongoing if infrequent pain in my lower jaw since Thanksgiving, and I did what most poor folk do. I gargled with saltwater, brushed my teeth more frequently, and prayed that whatever it was would just please god go the fuck away. Fast-forward to today:I wake up, and oh holy shit pain is back, but it's so, so much worse. Queue desperate attempts at remedies. Nothing works.
I tentatively start exploring my mouth and oh I'm so fucked it looks like there's a tiny piece of my tooth that's actually broken off. So: can't go to emergency dentistry; familial aid's completely out, for various personal reasons and I don't have the money.
So, face feeling like it was low-key being drilled into with an icepick, I got online and found a list of low-cost options. On Monday, I'll call and grill all of 'em, about fillings and god forbid, maybe crowns. And then I'll pick the one that's cheapest; irregardless of appointment back-log. And then I'll spend the next couple weeks taking advil to sleep. Because I guarantee you the backlog will be that long.
And feeling profoundly fortunate; I, after all, can still eat on the other side, and my frequent brushing's kept it from becoming infected. There's no abscess; I can wait without fear of more than profoundly awful pain, and I'm privileged enough to have gotten thorough education in proper oral care, such that in the near-decade in which I haven't been covered, this's the only serious problem I've had. I know there're many. many people who aren't nearly as fortunate.
But when professional pundits wisely do the equivalent of beard-stroking and talk about how medicare-for-all, even with its dental and long-term care benefits that would be fucking revolutionary for most folks is an election killer, because republicans gonna fucking republican and spout BS, without taking into account that we can counterattack, it makes me rage. They don't have to live like this; no one should’ve had the day I’ve had. Absolutely no one. But for it to be happening in the richest country in the world is such a ludicrously dystopian level of horror that if I wronte it in a novel, people would tell me it was unrealistic, that there simply had to be more of a safetynet than this.
And part of the reason, frankly, that this horror persists is the immense cultural shame poor folks are burdened with. It’s considered gauche to discuss financial trials; too traumatic for the people around you hearing about them, and something we’re raised from the cradle to know would make others look at us with pity and a little bit of:why can’t you get your shit together??
Even as polling data has proven over and over that the vast majority of the country would be gutted by small emergencies--look at the fed survey from last year! showing $400 was like the moon for 40% of us--the shame persists. It’s so hard to actually internalize that it’s a flaw in the system--in fact the fundamental feature of late-stage capitalism--rather than some sign of our own incompetence. So yeah, it’s 1:00 A.M. and I’m doing my bit to say fuck that shit narrative; this’s why shit like M4A is fucking crucial. Not thirty years from now, but as soon as we can possibly get it.

1, 8, and 22, for the Star Wars asks
So I answered 1 more in depth here, but short answer is: I also love the era between Clone Wars and A New Hope, the tumultuous and ethically nebulous period of ‘not exactly war, but definitely not peace.’
8. if you found out you were force sensitive, would you want to become a jedi?
Well...shit. That’s not as simple of a question as it seems. Part of me immediately jumped up and yelled HELL YES! But then I thought...wait, are we talking Republic Era? Would I have to leave my family and become some sort of hypocritical ‘monk’ with a policy of Non-Interference (Unless I Think It’s Really Important or My Name Is Yoda)? Also, it seems to me like Jedi have a really nonsensical approach to ‘balance’ that I can’t seem to quite wrap my head around. So I think my answer becomes: I would want to study in Jedha under the Guardians of the Whills (because those people seem to have their shit together, at least before the Empire exterminated them). And then I would probably duck off and do whatever I thought was the right thing to do to the best of my ability. Which would include, for the record, never ever ever using my abilities to manipulate someone’s mind, oh my god, how did no one freak right the fuck out when the Good Guys pulled that shit?
22. if you could give any character advice, who would you give it to and what would you say?
Dear Blue Squadron: I’m proud of you for braving death to attack a dangerous Imperial facility on Eadu even though you had crap for intel and the weather conditions were amazingly Not Ideal. I’m super proud of you for flipping Command the bird and going to Scarif to support your compatriots, who were totally right about that Monster Death Machine thing the Empire built. I know that the Eadu weather made it really hard to navigate through all those jagged black cliffs. I also recognize that until the Scarif planetary shield went down, you were sort of trapped in atmosphere-only combat and that was limiting compared to your normal workable battlespace. However, please recall that you are operating in a 3-dimensional fighter craft with decent turn radius and heavy weaponry and do not fly three feet away from enemy ground weapons for no flipping reason. This happened so many times and I just could not cope. Why, why did one of you fly directly at heavy ground artillery at 10 feet off the deck? Why did you not target and shoot it from many, many miles away, long before it ever could have locked on you? Why did you point your face directly into the enemy fire and then fly two feet away from your similarly idiotic wingman through terrible dangerous terrain? Your deaths were as pointless as they were noble. PS, please remind the cruisers that they are massive battle ships with Long Range Weapons that could easily fire on targets from several miles if not lightyears away and do not, therefore, have to fly directly up the nearest Star Destroyer’s nose in order to score a couple hits. Thank you, and may the Force be with you when you go to that big Ready Room in the sky.

"Light" for the fic ask game!
Thanks for playing! Hm, light. Lets see where that shows up. Looks like we have a partial hit here:
Carrot's blood decided it didn't want to be seen anywhere near the brain that was dealing with this new information. It slunk away from his head, leaving Carrot feeling lightheaded and woozy. "Oh, dear," Carrot said faintly. "That's not good."
And here it is properly:
Framed in the warm yellow light of the hall was the strong chin and adorably crooked button nose of Luke Skywalker.
~
Send me a word, and I’ll share where it shows up in my WIPs!

chamerionwrites a réagi à votre billet “so since i’ve been hit by violent silmarillion feels this week, i’ve...”
I'm sorry but this post is amazing and made me crack up laughing
But it is laughable!! I cannot believe there are people over there arguing about whether canon h/anxleia is abusive or not and the shippers consequently problematic (yikes!!), when there are greener pastures clearer skies where people can indulge in all the dirty bad & wrong stuff they love and write stories about eldritch horrors fucking up the world and occasionally each other without any issues! Like....why? Is it just because we’re the biggest fandom? Or because of the vague political undertones of the sw franchise? the portrayal of the villains??? I don’t know but there are times when i dream of having a normal fandom experience, aka one where i would not need to block half of the posts i see bc i’m just utterly done with people hijacking important sj notions for the sake of their bad takes .
.....or, it could be that 80% of the silmarillion is about elves dying painfully and killing each other equally problematically. admittedly.
