💙LAYING WITH THE FAERIES💙 How much of a challenge it still is to feel unproductive. But how precious to sit and watch nature move around me. Seeds float, taking the sky path to their destiny, a sweet, unremarkable death or glory. Insects zig and zag in indiscernible geometry, serving the future of all species. Birds erupt from trees and undergrowth and chirrup and sing sweetly. It’s all so decadent and yet, minimal. Every form has a function, a purpose, and yet no striving. Perhaps our concept of productivity is just senseless busyness making us feel worthwhile. If we follow the rhythm of nature the result could be verdant minimalism. Instead of inventing, let’s rediscover the energy that fuelled us in the first place. Protect it, work with it, yield to a different song, a slower rhythm, in keeping with the sap in the trees and the Earth’s path around the sun. Kimberlé Crenshaw created the concept of “intersectionality,” which addresses the way different types of discrimination can have a cumulative negative effect on an individual. i see this as more than true itself today. as a woman of colour myself it is almost indescribable the oppression that is followed behind a strong coloured woman. i think of it as the power we hold is almost feared to some, due to the restraints we’ve had to work harder in things like social situations for example. the idea that couloured women were less able than white women to be educated blows my mind as if people like Jane Bolin; a coloured woman who went on to study law and become the nations first black woman judge. or   Dr. Alexa Canady became the first Black woman neurosurgeon, didn’t exist. in the reading it discussed the difficulties with housing due to racial discrimination.. it is well documented with Jamaican ans Somali immigrants had difficulties finding rental housing because of landlords perceptions of these groups.”race is also a barrier to home ownership” the tests also refers to income and jobs as race and sexism combines to basically limit women to the point of poverty, especially in Canada why don’t we see a problem with this. this makes me think of maternity which is a factor judged by people like employers. moms are 79% less likely to get hire and/or promoted. people referred to this as the “mommy penalty” another section i think we should play close attention to is racialized sexuality. this known fact that  the sexual assumptions society has on women are utterly wrong and hurtful and misleading in all cases like the idea that women of colour are highly more sexual and desire more sexual attention than other women. it is possible that women of colour endure more sexual harassment than any other women. this saddens me, and i think more people should become educated on the oppression and issues that still happen today.in my own experience I've felt how i was view as “different” in high school due to things like my skin tone and my body type. i noticed when i lost weight i was spoken to and taken account for so much more which sickens me.. that my body had so much do with how other view my importance.
