Not as much updates for this month, due to taking a small break to work on Tiera stuff for a bit. You should check that out if you haven't yet.

As for Pocket Adventure, I finished editing the chapter 2 script to shorten things, and working on the very last cutscene for it. That led to working more on the cutscene editor, which had it's updates carried over from Fragaria Park. A lot of fixes have been made on the editor so that I can inch closer to being able to fully edit in it, the major change being able to add/remove images that show up in the dialogue scenes.

A more interesting change is that I went back to the first tier of alternate attacks to the boxing glove, and tweaked them all to feel better. More balanced while remaining unique, I hope. The second gif here, the cuckoo bird, is able to pierce through and hit multiple enemies. Jupa's charge will create a wavey projectile that stuns any enemies it hits, and Poppin's charge causes a cacophony that hurts anything near it.

Speaking of the "tier 1 glove alts", the chest for picking one of them is moved to the start of chapter 2. Originally I put it in an optional area in the middle of chapter 2, but I think having something new to attack with after Chapter 1 is a little better paced.

I'm starting to pick at the surrounding optional areas in Chapter 2, stuff that doesn't necessarily have content to it but is meant to tease at future areas/tasks you'd do in later chapters. One of them involves the third bandit type, the Cinmin bandit, and I wanted to update his base sprite shown here (on the left), to his new one (on the right). Little changesl ike this I feel like reads better and is more pleasing.

And finally some cutscene assets. Nab, the green guy, had a bit of a big head, so I went through all of his dialogue sprites and narrowed it more, making him fit alongside PnJ more.

At the top are some other NPCs... one of which is the farmer you talk to at the end of the chapter 1 demo. I debated on it and decided to just make dialogue sprites for all unique NPCs. I think that will help differentiate whether or not you get exp for talking to them.

October is a month I usually spend playing spooky games and drawing, so I don't expect to get a lot of game dev done. Another part of why things are sparse is my job has been picking up and it is asking a bunch right now... I expect it to calm down in a couple of weeks. I'm pretty lucky though, budget cuts halved our entire team and somehow I didn't get let go. And thankfully that government shutdown didn't happen cause then I wouldn't be getting paid at all for who-knows-how-long.

My game dev plans right now are finishing up this next batch of Cutscene Editor fixes, use it to animate the last cutscene, and then continue picking at the tertiary rooms connected between chapter 2 and future areas.

But what you can expect for sure are more pics this halloween time! Hope you enjoy them.

Wow. To try and say how much Taylor and her music have influenced my life is hard actually, there is just so much to say about it.I first started listening to Taylor’s music on the suggestion of my dad actually, which may seem slightly unusual, but I was still in primary school at this point and whenever my parents suggested things to me, I was going to listen to them. So this led me to seek out Taylor online and the first song I found, suitably, a song called ‘Stay Beautiful’, which I honestly believe to this day is one of the most underrated songs Taylor has ever written. Listening to this song on my mp3 (yep, it was that long ago!), I couldn’t help but start crying at how heartfelt and beautiful the lyrics were. Yes I was only 9 at the time, but having experienced an awful lot of bullying at school the lines “You're beautiful  Every little piece love, /And don't you know /You're really gonna be someone…” struck me deeply, as I felt that I had finally found someone who had experienced things similar to what I had and who was able to reassure me that however hard it was, I would get through it.

By the time Fearless came out in 2008, I would have called myself a definite fan of Taylor’s music, although not quite to the extent I am these days obviously! It was exciting being a part of the build up to the release of that album and when it finally came out and I listened to it my first thoughts were ‘wow, how does she manage to do this?’. You see, yet again I felt able to connect to every single song personally – despite the fact that many of them were written about Taylor’s own specific experiences. One song that really stuck out to me on this album though was the final one – Change. It is now 2017, 9 years after Fearless was released and this song is still one of the main things that I chalk up to my growth in confidence as I grew up through secondary school and came to realize that yes, people may be horrible to me and I may feel like giving up some times because there is just no point in trying anymore, but eventually things will change – and change for the better.

This song completely encapsulated everything I wanted to be able to feel in my final year of primary school and my first couple of years of secondary school. I had been close friends with one girl for a few years, but when it came to progression into secondary she simply came to me one day and told me that we couldn’t be friends anymore because I was not ‘cool’ and she couldn’t been seen with someone like me when starting at a new school. That made me feel absolutely horrible – no one had ever been that blatantly cruel to me before, especially not someone I had come to see as a good friend. Unfortunately, I had a very similar experience about 2 years into secondary school. I was at the stage where I did not want to attend school because seeing her and all the other kids who made fun of me just made me so upset. However, looking back now, although those times were some the hardest I have felt, coming home and being able to listen to Taylor’s music – Change, Begin Again, The Lucky One being just some of my favorites – meant that I was able to pick myself up and face everything again the next day. It was incredible to watch this girl who I had first heard 4 years before and connected to almost instantly growing up and becoming an idol for so many other girls like me.

All of Taylor’s albums have been special to me for different reasons, as you can see, because they have helped me through some very difficult emotions and brought me out the other side. The one moment at which I was most thankful to have Taylor as a person I could look up to though was when I was in my first year of college. A couple of years previously, I had learnt that one of my friends had died of cancer you see – she didn’t even reach her 13th birthday. We were informed in an assembly in school, as the majority of people hadn’t been allowed in to see her in the hospice because she had simple been too ill. Me and 2 of my other friends who had all been close to her struggled with this news a lot, as I’m sure anyone who lost someone when they were young has done. However, the hardest moment came 3 years later – when one of the boys in my class decided that he needed to respond to something I had said commemorating my friend, as it was her anniversary that day. I won’t quote verbatim but he basically told me that I shouldn’t still be as upset as I was because it had been 2 years and I never even showed that I was friends with her anyway so I ‘should just stop playing the poor little victim all the time, grow up and stop acting like I actually cared about her’. Whilst I pretty much managed to hold it together during school that day, as soon as I got home I just ran up to my room and broke down – I just couldn’t handle what he had just said, he didn’t know me or my friend at all! As I sat there, I decided to go on social media and talk to some people I knew on there, mainly Taylor Swift fans. As I was doing this, I saw one post that had someone had shared about a speech Taylor had recently made on the 1989 Tour, which I had unfortunately failed to get tickets for ( I was so annoyed about that!). Anyway, this was a speech she made before the song ‘Clean’ in Bossier City. This is that speech...

“Maybe you felt like it was a bunch of constantly rainy gray days that never really got brighter, maybe you lost a person you never thought you would lose, maybe you lost yourself. You know, I think that we all go through things like this. We all have questions about where we’re going or where we been or where we should have been at that time. I hope that when you do that –because there is no option you’re not doing that, you’re going to have these moments of doubt in your life – but I just hope that when these moments happen to you, you look in the mirror and remind yourself of what you are, and what you are not. You are damaged goods just because you made mistakes. You are not someone else’s opinion of you. You are wiser, and smarter, and stronger because you took the chances it took to make mistakes. You are someone who was rained on every day, for a long time and kept putting one foot in front of the other, and I think at this point in my life I’m still learning every day. But the one think I do know is that pain does make you stronger, and that walking through a bunch of rainstorms makes you wish to keep on going. It doesn’t make you damaged goods, doesn’t make you dirty, or muddy, from those failed adventures. It makes you clean.”

Reading this speech as I sat there, still crying, I came to the incredible realization that the girl I had grown up listening to had grown up as well and here she was, telling me that pain was ok, heartache and troubles were ok, because no matter what people say to you – their opinions don’t matter. You will be stronger for coping with it and ‘walking through those rainstorms’. Although I was obviously still very upset, seeing this speech led to me commenting on that post and from that day I would say that I have offically become a member of the ‘swiftie’ community. And I just want to say thank you to Taylor and all the other fans, some of whom I communicate with on a daily basis, others who won’t have the faintest clue who this girl thanking them is. I just want to say thank you for existing and for being there to brighten even the darkest of days, as well as bring moments of laughter and fun to any moment. And to Taylor specifically, though of course the likelihood of her ever seeing this is slim, I want to say thank you for being you – for writing the music that you wanted to and not listening to anyone who told you otherwise, because without your music I honestly don’t think I would have the confidence to be the person that I am today.
