CHAOS REVERSED - ROUGE ADVENTURE 2 SCENES

“I don't understand, how could G.U.N mistake me for the likes of yours!?” Rouge spitted out with annoyance dripping in her tone, her hands landing on her hips.

“You think I am happy that they mistook me for a girl!? Well, guess what, I am not, however I don't whine like you,” Knuckles crossed his arms and huffed under his breath, Rouge in front of him seeing suddenly red.

“Why you! I'll have you know mister, that I do not WHINE!” she glared at the echidna and her fists tightened. Knuckles on the other hand chuckled, “Oh, really? Then what are you doing now? Oh wait– I know. Watch!”

He cleared his throat and pitched his voice as much as he could, “Look at me, look at me! I'm whining like a damsel in distress, because G.U.N mistook me for an echidna. An incredibly hot and handsome echidna. Why couldn't I be like him?”

Rouge almost choked at the imitation, “What!? Oh, no, I believe that you take this further than you actually should. You don't want to see me truly getting mad. You just don't, so you better cut that attitude short, if you don’t wish my heels planted on your stomach, stinky piglet!”

“Relax doc’. I'm not here to steal anything this time. After all I learned my lesson,” Sonic grinned at the scientist, however the other didn't share the same joy.

“I doubt it, rat, though I would be definitely lying, if I were to say that I am not the slightest interested to learn the reason behind your– uninvited presence in my base,” Eggman glared through his glasses and crossed his arms.

Even after the many times Sonic had helped him carry out his plans, he would be insane to start trusting the hedgehog like a decent teammate. For all he knew, he could be working for that annoying bat, if he deemed that the prize she gave him was worthy of putting his quills in danger.

Sonic might have been wearing his heart on his sleeve, but that didn't mean that he didn't master the art of deceiving, thus why Eggman was always wary around him. Or at least, until he was certain that the hedgehog wouldn't betray him.

Speaking of the devil, a chuckle escaped from his lips, “Oh, why are you always that bad-tempered? I still haven't uttered my second sentence and you are already fuming? Chaos, Rouge must have been getting on your tail more and more lately, Eggy.”

Eggman bristled at the name, “Don’t call me that, you, pig!”

It had been bad when that kid had started calling him that. He didn’t need more underestimating. He hated disrespect with all his inner being.

And Sonic of course knew that.

Toying with the cuff of his glove, Sonic gave a side glance to the human in the room, “Maybe, when you stop messing up my species each time you try to insult me I won’t. For now, I think I will be enjoying myself.”

That insufferable fool!

He wanted to shout, to curse, grab a broom and make the other get lost from his sight, but the only thing he ended up spurting was a choked mumble, “Grrr– if you didn’t have ties with the emeralds I would have long gotten rid of you, pest.”

A blue ear twitched and emerald eyes darkened, “What was that, Eggy?”

A pair of red-fabric covered arms raised up in response. “Ra–! I mean– nothing, Sonic. Eeeverything is just– perfect~” the doctor sang and and clapped his arms with feigned joy.

That got the hedgehog before him to retrieve his collected look and fall back to a relaxed stance.

“That’s what I’ve thought. Now, what would you be up to this time? I didn’t make all this wah here to be leaving without some thrill, you know.”

Eggman sighed internally, wishing he could facepalm. This was gonna be a veeery looong road to world domination.

"TAKE THIS!!!" Vector spinned his hammer and then with mighty force broke the wall. Shadow, Maria and Rouge were left speechless.

Meanwhile, the crocodile dusted himself and smirked at his friends, "I know, I am awesome, no need to gauge at me like that. However, feel free to continue, I love the praise."

Immediately Shadow broke into a fistful of chokes and Maria yelped and patted his back, “Shadow! Don’t worry I got you. Deep breaths.” This brought a chuckle out of Vector as Rouge whistled, "Dear Chaos, hun, you seem like a daredevil with this baby in your hands.”

Vector let out a huge grin, "Obviously, Rouge. You expected anything less from this crocodile in front of you?"

Rouge walked in front of her friend and gave him a wink, “Certainly, no, hot stuff.” She then whispered to him, “Next time keep it a bit mild though if you could, hun, sunshine over here–,” she pointed at Shadow, “–doesn't function quite well after seeing super hot demonstrations like mine and yours.”

“You know that I… *cough* c-can hear you, Rouge *cough*.” Shadow glared at the bat as he tried to compose himself and he would carry on scolding Rouge hadn't it been for Maria to interrupt him, “Shadow, no! Please calm down and let your cough subside. We don't want you choking for the rest of the trip.”

Rouge and Vector laughed, when Shadow groaned and Omega let out a cheerful buzz. Shadow was just too easy to tease at times.

The sound of footsteps reached Rouge’s sensitive ears, but before she could warn anyone, a chuckle got her first, “Now that would be a hilarious sight to watch, am I right?”

Teal eyes made eye contact with a pair of emerald and violet ones and team D.I.A with Vector took a fighting stance. Sonic let out a disappointing whine, “Gah, really? I try to partake in your nice conversation and that's how you treat me? I am most definitely let down here, guys.”

Rouge knew that this was the hedgehog's way to mock them, but she couldn't help, but feel somewhat bad at how she behaved around the younger. Usually this wouldn't affect her, but hanging around with younger children did certainly leave an impact on her.

Still she managed swiftly to reply back, “I’m sorry, blue, but I don't indulge in conversations with Eggman's sidekicks. That, unless you decide to take a visit on our side, sugar.” The hedgehog seemed to debate for a second Rouge's offer, before Knuckles punched him in the head, “Are you serious? Do you honestly consider that bat's offer? Remember you have a job to carry on, or are you having second thoughts?”

“Me? Second thoughts? Pleeease, Knux, now where did that thought come from?”

“My name is Knuckles for the last time, hedgehog!”

The echidna tsked, not letting Sonic time to respond and stepped forward calling upon a chaos spear in his hand as he did so, “Party time is over. I am not letting you go any further than this.”

“Have no fear our dear hero here, for Vector the Great is here!” Vector opened up his eyes to see an annoyed and bruised Rouge inside the cage. His eyes widened in shock, “Holy chaos Rouge! How did you end up like this?”

Rouge shrugged as she let out a sigh, stretching her wings as she did so, “Long story short, hun, let's just say that G.U.N is getting more and more on my nerves lately. I might end up like sunshine in the end…”

“Have we made any progress yet with the chaos emeralds? Last time I checked, I believe you'd promised me that all emeralds would be under my control, right, Knuckles?”

Eggman let his gaze fall on the echidna and he in return crossed his arms nonchalantly, “No need to worry, doctor. Soon all emeralds shall be in our disposal. There's only one left to find; the yellow one.”

Huffing under his breath, Eggman grinned, “Brilliant! That means we are one step away from my glory to shine and my Eggman Empire to rise!” He turned to look at his computer, typing several algorithms and chuckled, “We just have to find the last chaos emerald and then not even Rouge will be able to stand in my way, oh, ho, ho. This is splendid news.”

Knuckles continued watching Eggman for a few minutes, before finding himself getting starstruck by space’s illustrious light. A small smirk found its way at his lips.

Soon he would have his revenge. Both Locke and Tikal would find justice.

Suddenly a whistle captured both the echidna and the doctor’s attention and they looked behind them to see Sonic perched atop a generator with a newspaper in his hands.

Eggman scowled, “What is it, hedgehog? If you have no news, find another place to laze around.”

Chaos Reversed is one of your swap sonic AUs where the sonic characters swap roles and powers with each other, but on this one they keep their personalities the same for the most part. Everyone except the villains themselves are swapped, thus why Eggman’s role the same. The swaps aren’t only between two characters.

Full disclosure, my only familiarity with DC is DP crossover fanfic, and a Batman movie I fell asleep during. There was an empty cardboard box on the table of the Justice League’s main conference room. Taped on the top flap, next to a doodle of Fenton’s logo, was a jump drive.

Heaving a sigh, Batman plugged it in and pulled up his screen on the projector. The drive, which was named “little baby dan’s evil playtime”, contained two files; WATCH_ME_FIRST.mp4 and its-a-secreeeet.pdf. He clicked on the video file, and immediately the projector filled with a blurry close-up of Fenton’s goggles.

After a moment of fiddling with the camera, Fenton stepped back, giving a cheery wave. His lab coat and goggles were a pastel pink, which was new. “Heeeeya, Bats! Whoever else is there! If you’re watching this, you probably weren’t there when I dropped the box off, aaand it’s probably empty.”

He clapped his hands together gleefully. “And Connie, if you’re there, this is payback for cussing around my daughter.” Batman was instantly relieved that Constantine wasn’t on base. Hopefully the situation wouldn’t require Constantine’s expertise. (Or any of the Justice League Dark. Fenton seemed determined to drive them all to an early grave with his casual refusal to acknowledge the supernatural air around him.)

“Now, as you’re all heroes, I’m sure you’re all familiar with the whole,” Fenton paused for a moment, as if searching for the proper words. “”You ate a burger on a Tuesday or something equally inane, and it kickstarted a series of events that led to you going insane and evil and murdering 95% of the Earth’s population and now you must fight your evil alternate self, because your time-controlling cryptid Peepaw said so,” shtick, so I’ll skip the backstory. Say hi to Dan!” Fenton grabbed the camera, and Batman quickly jotted down several notes about the concerning number of things the boy had just said.

The camera swiveled around to show Nightingale, holding a strange beast in a manner that reminded Batman of an “elongated cat meme” Nightwing had shown him when he was still a Robin. The creature bared a maw full of razor sharp fangs at the camera. Nightingale adjusted her grip to hold the creature’s paw and make it wave, which evoked a deep growl.

“Haha, he’d kill me if I did that. Dan likes Nightingale much more than he likes me.”

“Because the worst she has ever done is attempt to shoot me.”

The camera had moved, so Batman couldn’t visually confirm that the deep voice had come from the creature, but the voice didn’t match any of Fenton’s previously revealed companions. “Yeah yeah, her aim sucked back then.” Fenton gave the camera a toothy grin that was only slightly less unnerving than the creature’s. “Dan’s not technically me, he’s much more like Dani, actually, but the world would probably end again if we left him with his other... What did you call him?” Fenton glanced offscreen.

“Bane of my accursed existence.”

Fenton chucked. “The other half responsible for his existence.” Batman added more notes to his file. “So, yeah, Clocky left him with us for a bit to help along his rehab. But a certain psychologist-in-training I know says that repressing rage isn’t healthy, and even without a lot of his powers, he can wipe out most of a city in- what, an hour? We tested it. It was around an hour.”

Everyone present shared a look of deep concern. As if able to see their reaction, Fenton quickly held up his hands in surrender. “Don’t worry! Clocky reset it. Approximately zero people have died from Dan in this timeline.”

“Yet.” Came a furious rumble from off-screen.

“Yes, you’re very scary.” They heard Nightingale coo.

Fenton laughed. “Yeah, we need him- and all of you, -out of our hair for a bit while we concoct more evil plans, and you’re all the least likely to die to him, so you get to babysit! Thanks!”

He reached to shut off the camera before pausing and turning away. “Foley! Which of the furries is the one who really likes animals?”

“Man, do you realize how that sounds out of context?” Foley laughed. “I think Tim said it’s the little one. Damian?”

Fenton nodded and turned back to the camera. “Don’t let Damian try to adopt Dan. Or anyone. Dan will bite their hands off. I mean it!” To emphasize his point, he removed one of his hands.

Batman sighed and added “ability to remove limbs” to a list of Fenton’s powers.

“I’ll include a list of “tasks”” Fenton’s disembodied hand made finger quotes, “we gave Dan to keep him occupied. There’s some at the bottom for you guys. They’re mostly just blatant abuse of his powers for the sake of fun and science. I’d appreciate it if you’d let him mark things off the list and add notes on how it goes. Or you can do it. Or I can steal your cameras. Your choice.”

He thought for a second. “I think you’re supposed to leave, like, pizza money or something, but I don’t think you can get pizza delivered to space. Anyway, thanks for letting me blab your ears off while Dan’s probably committing war crimes for twelve minutes. For your sake, I hope he inherited my interest in space. Good luck! Thanks for babysitting!”

Waving with his still detached hand, Fenton ended the video. Batman closed it and opened the PDF as the few other members present murmured amongst themselves. Most of the pages were filled with a curling script Batman didn’t recognize. The fourth page had a huge, bolded header, reading JP TASKS.

The door opened and shut in half a second as the Flash burst in. “Superman!” The speedster wailed. “I can’t get this thing off of me!”

The Flash waved his arm around, sending small droplets of blood flying as he tried to dislodge the creature sinking his teeth into the speedster’s arm. Batman raised an eyebrow beneath his cowl as Superman quickly lent his super strength in attempt to pry the creature’s jaw open. Dan didn’t budge.

Well, he could certainly see the family resemblance been Fenton, Dani, and Dan. Shaking his head, he turned back to the list.

Task 1: Find Dan. He’s probably attacking someone.

He highlighted the text and crossed it out. This was going to be a long shift.

"Do you think Fenton's regeneration powers extend to his..." Green Lantern frowned, trying to remember the word the kid had used but coming up blank. "I dunno. But do you think if we cut off little Dan here, he'll heal back up with no problem?" He gestured helplessly to the scene in front of him. Flash was still screeching about the beast on his arm, and now Superman and Wonder Woman were trying to pry him off. Batman was standing to the side, silently bemoaning the lack of quiet. He just wanted one peaceful shift. Just one. Please.

"I'd like to see you try, hero. And I'm not little." Dan spoke, startling all of them. His grip on Flash's arm tightened, making the speedster squeal before releasing the man and spitting out a mouthful of his blood. Batman noticed that his mouth didn't move despite the clearly spoken words. In fact, when Dan closed his mouth, it was like he didn't have one at all.

"So you do speak!" Superman marveled.

"Of course I do. I am not unintelligent, unlike you lot."

Despite his pain, Flash still made sounds of protest that everyone promptly ignored.

Superman flushed. "I just wasn't sure. It was hard to tell in the video."

"Ah, yes. The video that the Fenton menace sent you. Was there a note for me in the flash drive?"

"Uh, no." In one of his less finer moments, Green Lantern stuttered over his words and moved in front of Batman, obviously lying. Dan merely growled and flew through both men, heading straight for the giant monitor. Batman barely suppressed a shiver. Density shifting? Might as well add it to the list. He could see Martian Manhunter, who was in the back of the room, tilt his head at the display.

Dan ignored the room as he used his entire body to manipulate the computer mouse and scrolled back up to the top of the page. Staring intently at the scribbles no one could make out, the heroes could do nothing but shoot each other nervous and confused glances. More than a few of them jumped when Dan chuckled deeply. Honestly, his tiny body was at complete odds with his baritone voice.

"Maybe rehab will be fun if he's letting me do this." Dan sneered, flashing their reflections a sharp fang. No one wanted to ask what exactly he was in rehab for. The little beast turned his gaze to Batman. "You are the one called Batman, who rules the cursed city, correct?" The dark hero nodded, not trusting himself to say anything. "Excellent. You will be my chaperone for now, just as Fenton decreed it. Good luck, mortal man. Pray, I do not destroy your home a second time."

Without any time to unpack that conversation, Dan promptly disappeared from view. Some blinking text caught his attention, and Batman scrolled back down to the English text, glancing at the next few items on the list.

Task 2: Do not let Dan read his portion of this letter until you have a way to track him. There is no containing him.

Task 3: Keep him with a chaperone at all times. (If you can)

Task 4: Do not let Dan back into Gotham unless you're fine with a sudden decrease in the clown population.

Task 5: Take him for a walk in Death Valley. He likes hunting lizards.

Task 6: Make sure he goes down for his 2pm nap every day.

Task 7: He'll ask for it, but do not give him any burgers for mealtime. It upsets his stomach.

Task 8: Dan gets ONE(1) sweet after dinner before brushing his teeth. Those green pop rocks Batman always carries will do fine; he likes those. :)

A sudden alarm blared from his wristwatch, making Batman tear his eyes away from the screen, indicating an emergency at Arkham. This time, Batman actually sighed out loud. There was more to the list, but right now, he really needed to find their new charge before he killed the Joker, from the sound of it.

“I’m not meant to be here… I’m not meant to be this! Whatever this is!” Lenora trembled with effort against the binding tendrils from his back. Her rational mind warred with the desire to hurt, to lash out against her captor, to see blood, be it his or her own. But she didn’t want to hurt Erriox, didn’t he say that he was trying to help her survive in his world. Right? They had been bonded for such a long time, he knew how much trust she placed in him. Why would he turn her into this creature? This abomination? She could hear the whispers cackling, amplifying her despair and anger.

She dug her claws into her own palms in effort to stay her hand from instinctively breaking free and take a swipe at him. Blood ran down her palms, staining the stone slab she was pinned on. The pain providing temporary horrifying clarity. Lenora broke down. Those feelings and desire for violence were so confusing. That was not her nature! This feels all wrong! This body! This voice! It’s not hers! She wanted to curl into herself, but Erriox’s weight bearing down on her body prevented her from doing so. “I can’t be.. I’m not…!”

Her tearful babble was cut off by the warpsmith’s forceful kiss, “You are mine. Our bond is iron. You are meant to be with me.” He growled fiercely.

Author’s Note: A short angsty piece from Chaos warpsmith Erriox/Lenora reverse husbandry AU from space marine husbandry sentience tag. I needed to get this out before I forgot.

This is only waking up and discovering that she’s become this thing… this creature… and doesn’t even touch when Lenora finds out that she is bound to Erriox like a demon to its master.

Not only would it be funny for Barry "known skeptic of ghosts" Allen to have a half-ghost nephew, but imagine Danny finding out who he was named after.

Danny: "Hey, mom. You were the one who named me, right? Why "Danny"?"

Maddie: "Well, while I was pregnant with you, a few of your aunts were visiting for the baby shower."

Danny: "I have more than one aunt?"

Maddie: "Yes, now listen, sweetie. During the party, one of your aunts was telling the story of how your uncle pushed their father down a flight of stairs and made him paraplegic. And do you know what that uncle's name was?"

Danny: "I don't think I want to–"

Doing more sketchbooking for Eternal Ashes! (Lore-Dump under the Cut)

Mostly developing Kane more, and figuring out Reset's childhood vibes. Kane was the oldest of the "2nd generation" and he basically was the best thing the multiverse had to a peaceful mediator. He was adored by everyone, and worked hard to maintain that position. He could usually talk down either Ink or Error from fighting, and Dream and Nightmare usually didn't like to fight infront of him. As the son of Death and Resistance of Death, he has magic that correlates a bit to Purgatory. A between-world where Souls linger when they have unresolved conflicts from life. He wasn't above using the Souls he could contact to dissuade either side of the fight.

As Kane grew more known, he got a little posse of other kids following him, mainly consisting of Reset (his lil bro), Shotput (Dream+Killer's son), and Haphazard (Ink+Error's son). Hap was the least invested, but any time his parents weren't tearing holes in the multiverse was time he appreciated and owed to Kane. Then Shotput wanted to be like Kane and bring peace. Of course Reset followed him, they were siblings.

When Kane died, the treaty of the multiverse was brought about, and the duty of keeping the multiverse stable and true to the truce fell to Haphazard's shoulders. He didn't want the pressure, but took it on anyways as the 2nd eldest. Shotput was destroyed by Kane's death and ended up hardly ever leaving Dream's side fir several years. Reset, also broken without his older brother, stayed with Geno in the Save Screen for a few years (out of sight of the rest of the Multiverse) until he started training at Nightmare's.

And, I don't talk about the parents much, but I must mention: Reset got really into his training when he was 12, and rarely stopped at home by the time he was 13. He lived at Nightmare's castle for a while. Geno and Reaper didn't even see him until it was revealed that he'd been massacuring AUs. And at that point, the boy who was fleeing the scene of a crime with his friend, covered in dust and blood? He looked so uncannily like their older son who they'd lost so many years before. I mean, it makes sense that their children would look similar, they weren't perfect copies, but Reset still wore Kane's old cloak, and he wielded a scythe just like Reaper and Kane had. Geno had been distraught, but he kept to himself. Reaper had almost immediately fallen back into his grief. They couldn't get in touch with Reset, because he was on the run. They'd practically lost a second son, and they couldn't puzzle out why.

Also, when Reset finally revives Kane, Kane comes back at the age he died. He's been in stasis. He doesn't feel like any time has passed. Meanwhile, Reset is 18 and an adult. He's going to be in huge trouble for everything he did to get his brother back. Reset is a stranger to his own brother. He knew that it would happen, but it surprises him to realize just how much changed. How much stayed the same.

Oh! Bonus Reaper + Geno! Poorly drawn, but basically, the boys get their long faces + sharpe features from Reaper, and their more gentle features from Geno. (Also, I think the freckles for Kane are from Geno's side, while Reset's magic that gives him his "freckles" comes from Reaper.)

"Right this way, Tails!"

"I'm right behind you, Sonic. But where are we even going?"

"It's a secret, but you will like it. Promise!"

Snow covered most of Station Square's streets as dozens of Mobians strolled down the town's pavements. Couples held hands with each other, admiring the lovely atmosphere that the magical weather showcased and families sang carols happily all together, enjoying either their free time at restaurants or staying outside to gaze upon the stars.

It was night and specifically ten minutes before the clock would hit officially midnight, signaling the start of a new day, but also the start of a new year. If you asked any child how they felt that such a cheery celebration was coming due they would squeal with excitement and reply back with the best words they could come up with.

That wasn't the case though for Tails as he walked behind Sonic, following him to who knows where he was heading at the middle of the night.

Previously, he, Sonic and Knuckles were planning to head to Rouge's bar, where they and the rest of the gang would be celebrating the arrival of the New Year. At first, when they had received the invitation around December, they had politely declined the bat's offer, still not very well acquainted with the other Mobians, except Rouge herself. However, when she'd brought to their blue teammate that there would be chili dogs awaiting him at the table, both kit and echidna had realized that they would not be able not to partake in the event.

But Tails wanted a lot to attend the gathering, even if a part of him screamed at him not to. When you had been spending your entire life working for the man that had been trying to kill the people that now welcomed you in their lives willingly, it was complicated. Tails didn't know how to feel about his situation. Knuckles on the other hand, had had it pretty rough, but still he at least seemed to be handling things easier than he did.

Sighing at himself, Tails decided not to dwell anymore on his concerns and instead he focused on where he was going. He turned his gaze from his shoes to the road ahead of him, before one of his tails decided to make him trip and send him over to Sonic.

"Woh!"

"I gotcha, buddy!" Tails felt his face getting covered by a peach torso and in an instance a pair of arms encircled and steadied him, before he could fall on the ground.

Tails didn't know the why nor did he know the how, but it was that moment where he felt safer than ever, all his troubled thoughts fading to the background like someone had casted a spell on him. Serenity would be the feeling he was experiencing and Tails decided that he liked it. He liked it more than the fear he had always been feeling around the doctor, the anger that was now conquering his mind, when he was catching sight of him, the sadness that ozzed him as he felt that nothing mattered anymore in the world. However all of that had changed, when Sonic, Knuckles and then everyone else in Rouge's gang, including herself had walked inside his life. He didn't feel any negative emotions anymore, aside from his everyday concerns.

Perhaps, he would feel more of these nice sensations that left a sweet and cozy warmth in his heart.

Abruptly Tails sensed the hold of the other Mobian tightening and bringing him back to his feet, when out of instinct he threw himself to Sonic's chest and began nuzzling him. That made the older one stop midway his actions, going ultimately still as he felt the muzzle of the fox tickling him.

Tails, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind as he carried on with his deed. Maybe Sonic didn't have a chestfur like Shadow and Silver did, but to him his chest was perfect! Tails felt the short fur against his furry muzzle warming him and the embrace of the other only made him more comfortable as the time passed.

The fox would almost forget that he was even outside, if it wasn't for Sonic to start chuckling, "Sorry, buddy. If I knew that you wanted a hug so much, I would had definitely given you one earlier."

At that, Tails stopped for a bit. Was that what he really had wanted from first hand? The feeling of someone embracing him, telling him that everything would be okay? He didn't have time to put a lot of thought into this, as suddenly, his feet were not touching the ground and his angle of view changed, as he got placed in the other's back.

"Here. How about a piggy ride? That way you will not have to worry that you will trip again. I get that your tails must be a lot of trouble to deal with," Tails looked downwards and got met up with a wink.

It was then that he realized that he in fact did want to feel loved.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to indulge. Maybe he wouldn't be hurt once again. Sonic was not Eggman after all.

He was his friend.

Instantly a bright smile covered the kit's face, "Yes!"

Sonic grinned, "Alright then! Get ready for the Sonic Express to take off!"

"Let's go already!" Tails hugged his teammate- no friend and laughed, when the hedgehog finally took off, dodging any other Mobian on his way with the kit politely excusing themselves. By all means Sonic wasn't fast like Rouge was in the sky and he could not even reach the speeds that Knuckles did, but he certainly was faster than any other Mobian at that moment.

After two minutes of running, the duo entered Station Square's biggest park and they walked -or more like Sonic walked- where the benches were located, which were placed at the highest area of the town. When Sonic and him arrived at the top of the peak, Tails got off of his back and flew to sit at the balustrade, his feet hanging from there.

"Em… is this what you wanted to show me? Bloom park?"

Sonic shook his head and crossed his arms, placing them at the balustrade, "Well, actually no, but in order for the surprise to work, this is the place where we have to be."

Tails titled his head at the hedgehog's response, "Surprise? What surprise?"

Sonic raised an eyebrow and Tails' face in an instance formed into a deadpan, "Ah, right. You said surprise."

"Glad that you are catching on!" the blue hedgehog chuckled and the kit couldn't help, but giggle as well.

However, he shot up at the next minute, "Wait! What time is it!"

"If my hedgehog hunch is correct, which is never wrong it should be about-"

"10, 9, 8-"

"-seven seconds before twelve!"

Tails screeched, "Oh no! The countdown! We should immediately go to Rouge's bar or else we will miss it! I-I will fly us-"

"7, 6-"

A finger got placed at his lips and he immediately shut his mouth, not without glaring at the other though, "Hold up there. It's alright, pal, this is actually part of the surprise! The others know that we are here."

"B-But then we would-"

"5, 4, 3-"

"Yes we will not be there with them, when the year is changing, but trust me you will love what is about to come." Sonic removed his hand and Tails' namesakes moved with anticipation at his sides, "Really?"

"I would never lie to you. Just relax and watch."

"2, 1-"

Tails took a deep breath and grabbed one of Sonic's hands with one of his own. Sonic sent him a smile, which the kit returned with one of his own and then together they looked upon the sky, just like everyone else that was there.

*DING*

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"

In the next second, Tails felt like he was waking up from a deep slumber. The distant sound of fireworks suddenly made itself presentable in the pregnant silence of the one millisecond, where all of the planet had gone quiet and just how a fire's spark comes alive, the merry explosions got unleashed in the cold of the night and the deep blue got replaced with an illustrious colorful light.

Red, orange, yellow, green, pink and any other color that someone could think of decorated the usual monotone hue of the sky and as if everything was paused, the sound returned and cheers erupted everywhere.

Tails, though, couldn't hear them, as he was simply too engrossed in the magical scenery before him.

The sight was simply breathtaking

A light tug on his arm and a small chuckle was all that was needed for Tails' small smile to turn into his biggest grin.

"Happy new year, Tails."

"Happy new year, Sonic."

He would totally be doing stereotypical rat things like making nests, stealing shiny things, chewing holes in stuff. Hiding everywhere.

Giving the guys a heart attack when he goes missing, cause yknow the sewers are full of rats and now he blends in.
