I commissioned @pilitella​ way back in October for this piece of Liam and Croía from chapter 16 of Vancross. At the time, I hadn't written the scene, and only bits and pieces were in my head. I had no idea what exactly it was that I wanted as far as the commission, only that I wanted the beginning of this pivotal moment for these two to shine through. So, I explained where they would be, what would be happening leading up to this moment, and what would be happening afterward. I then gave her free rein to come up with what she could to show what I was unable to really express or convey at the time.

And in true @pilitella​ fashion, she absolutely nailed it and blew me away 🥲

Liam’s jaw tensed as he stared at her. “You are to me,” he bit out, and she looked at him. “You’re important to me, Croía. And I would do what I did today again and again in a heartbeat because that’s what you do for someone you love.” He held her gaze, watching her expression as what he just said sunk in. Her lip quivered and her eyes filled with tears as she let out a quiet breath.

It wasn’t exactly the way Liam intended it to come out, but with what happened earlier, he no longer wanted to wait to tell her how he felt. If he’d taken away anything from the events that day, it was that tomorrow wasn’t always promised. What if something had happened and he’d never gotten the chance to tell her at all? That was a risk he didn’t want to take.

Liam reached out and took her hand; she continued to stare at him as a tear trickled down her cheek. “I’ve wanted to tell you for weeks now, but I … I didn’t want you to feel pressured or rushed into anything because of it. But after what happened today, I need you to know … I love you, Croía.” When her breath hitched, he reached up, gently brushing the tear away. “You don’t have to say anything … I just needed—”

“I love you, too, Liam,” Croía interrupted.  

Liam’s hand stilled on her cheek as he held her gaze, and a smile curled on his lips. “Really?”

“Yeah,” Croia tearfully chuckled. “Really.”

“And not just because you think I might have saved you today?” Liam quipped.

Croía shook her head as her lip trembled and she searched his blue-eyed gaze through her blurred vision. “You saved me long before today, Liam,” her voice quivered. “I think … I think you’ve been saving me this whole time …”

The meaning behind her words and the sincerity with which she said them caused Liam’s heart to stutter. His hands went to her waist and he pulled her to him; she shifted forward, leaning against his thighs to steady herself as he tilted his head up and captured her lips in his.

The school was buzzing with gossip, everyone was talking - the newest shenanigans of the infamous Piraticus’ student was the topic of the day. Normally, her pranks would be ignored, another one of many troublemakers in NRC, but this time, this time her prank was big. It wasn’t complicated or on a grand scale, not big in that meaning. Big, because she went for a fearsome person -- the Malleus Draconia.

And even if he took the prank rather well, his guards - not so much.

“Get back here, human!!!”

Rose could hear Sebek’s yelling from her hidden spot, chuckling at his cluelessness. She was right here! If he only looked around, at that stone wall, one of which in a slightly different shade - he would notice that there was a hidden entrance!

"I told you, it’s pointless, it wasn’t even that big of a deal.”

“SHE HAS TO PAY FOR DISRESPECTING YOUNG MASTER.” Silver only rolls his eyes, the clicking of his boots went further and further away from Rose. Sebek was left behind, looking around as if feeling Rose’s presence, her ridicule and mocking grins. But seeing nothing save for empty halls, he went after Silver.

She can finally sigh in relief and relax, despite not fearing the duo, the idea of being caught was never pleasant. Maybe, for now, it would be best to stay in this small room? She turns around from the peek hole, daydreaming about that one spot, close to an old, stained glass window, where the warm sun will fall on her... A Scream hitched in her throat as she sees another person in her dreamed place!

Mala naps next to the window, the colourful rays of the sun falls on her softly smiling face. Though despite the beautiful picture it created, Rose was not impressed. At all. Was she Surprised that the girl found this place? Sure. But Pleasant with the fact? Not really. 

“Excuse you?” She shakes Mala awake, the smile immediately disappearing from her face. “Who are you?”

“And who are you?” Mala snaps. Despite being groggy from her nap, the fact that someone bothered her without a good reason was as clear as day. She couldn’t get a break, even in this weird, hidden room.

“I asked you first.”

“I asked you second." Rose arched her brow at that remark - the gal wasn't as cute as she seemed. The annoyed frown and her nasty attuite - Rose would gladly discipline such unpleasant junior. The girl was clearly younger, and clearly didn’t know how to respect her senior, a captain and one of the most fearsome third years!

“Ha, I’m Kritanta Rose from Piraticus.” She states proudly, moving her hair from the face to let Mala have a better view of her scars. That rude junior for sure will recognise this infamous name, the scars tell the tales on their own as well! Poor girl, she will be so scared--

“Aha...” She’s not! 

“Anyway, just get going, it’s my hidden place.” despite her stern tone, Mala was still not scared nor impressed. 

“As you can see, I’m here now. So either deal with it or get going yourself. I need my nap.” Mala couldn’t care less who she was or from what dorm. What could she do? Fight her? Yell at her? Threaten to tell the teacher? All of that would bring troubles to Rose as well - after all, no one should know about this place. 

“But- I found this place first.”

“And I found it second,” Mala replied, turning her back to Rose and closing her eyes. The pirate could only sigh, what a troublesome day.

The guppy wasn’t good at being sneaky. They were still learning to glide on the currents and their glass beads clinked together with every flap of their tail. It was a surprise they hadn’t scared the cleaner fish away yet.

Caspian knew they were idling behind him as the fish picked at the pests hanging on him. Too bad they were not big enough to scare off the guppy as well.

He finally opened his eyes once the fish had swam off to the next ‘customer’. Maybe he should see how fast this guppy could be.

BELLUS: - its v likely peyton was one of the many victims to bellus’s short-lived infatuations since peytons not only very pretty but bellus tends to be drawn towards other energetic people the most. and like most of bellus’s crushes it didnt really go anywhere since idk if bellus’s want for attention all day everyday and impulsive playing with other peoples things would mesh well with peyton’s want for alone time and not wanting his maps or sword messed with. even after the crush passes on though bellus does appreciate peyton’s looks - the bright side of bellus’s crush and the after effects of it all is that he’ll scold meri any time he brings up sore subjects to get a rise out of peyton. and if that doesnt work he’ll tell on meri to kenn so its fine

MERI: - their first meeting would probably be a mess since meri loves bothering others and unfortunately still doesnt understand the concept of boundaries. he Will bring up the parents situation and then be pissy when peyton makes good on the threat of shutting him up. he will also Not learn his lesson the first time it happens and turn it into a game of “how long can you make peyton run after you” - after eventually stopping hes less of a dick dw. since they both enjoy bothering others, meri would have a field day the moment he finds that out and peyton would be added to the list of people that probably wont say non when theyre dragged into pranks with him - peyton Will be able to make meri more tame by getting him to play other games, whether board games or video games. also mayhaps by cooking since meris actually a surprisingly good cook and does want to know more about mainland cooking - has probably drawn at least one very tiny smiley face on a map peyton made and waited to see how long itd take him to notice it was there and then how long itd take for peyton to find out it was him

CASPIAN: - he pours himself a cup of coffee and looks out the dorm ship window. bellus and meri are on deck bothering peyton. he takes a sip and closes the blinds - caspian takes a lot of amusement in watching the first two and peyton interact mainly because the first two are both disasters and peyton was unfortunate enough to stumble into them. he also probably knows a lot about peyton?? or at least anything bellus knows about him during the crush period since caspian is the one who listens to him talk about all his crushes. as someone who also has a lot of secrets (or at least secrets to anyone not within their little group-), he appreciates that peytons able to keep his in a place like nrc - with peytons good grades in history, caspians likely approached him at some point to ask if he could help him in it. hes only been on the mainland for 3 years at the least and neverland doesnt seem like itd have detailed records of anywhere that wasnt in neverland tbh. out of the four, hes also the least likely to intrude on peytons alone time with books-

KENN: - is the one who puts an end to the “how long can you make peyton run after you” game if peytons threats and their follow through isnt enough to stop meri. out of them all he has the best handle on the cultural difference between neverland and the mainland so he manages to get meri to understand that people dont like it when you bring up certain things - Will want to look at the maps peyton makes, especially if he has stories to go with different locations on the latest map hes made. also to look at the tiny sea monster drawings if peyton puts those onto his maps - its either out of luck or talent but somehow kenn is usually able to notice whenever peyton is “borrowing” something from him specifically. hes lowkey possessive of his things so depending on how valuable kenn sees whatever peytons taking, he’ll either immediately demand ask for it back or giving him a few minutes before asking for it back if it isnt returned soon after

The sounds of alarms can be heard all around, resouding in the tall trees hidden away by magic. Lights flicker back and forth in the night, fairies rushing in a panic.

And inside the tallest, thicker tree stands Tink. Crouching on the window above, moonlight reflecting off the blue gem in his hand. The shadows can’t hide his mocking smile as he looks down at another fairy, one he had called a friend just this morning.

Said fairy wore a pleading look, mixed with the hurt and anger of treason. It was his duty, after all, to guard that blue gem. So important for the fairies and their way of life, a crucial part of their magic. And he failed. Tink played tossing and catching it like it was no more than a cheap trinket. No matter what words he said, they wouldn’t reach Tink anymore.

—  “Shut up. I heard you talking with your friends” —  The words were laced with poison — “About how hard it is to stand me, how much of a fuck up I am. Just like his mother, right? That was what you said.”

A misunderstanding. A betrayal. It didn’t matter to Tink what it was anymore. He was sick of it. Of them all. Of the looks, the whispers around him.

—  “Well, this fuck up is about to fuck your whoooole life~”

The sound of the blue gem shattering is quickly followed by screams of protest, and the bitter laugh of Tink as he flees into the night. It doesn’t matter who follows him, he can outlast any fairy that needs pixie dust to fly. He’ll fight any that catch up. He’ll get away with this and let them all remember

- He really just freezes in place. Romance wasn’t something he was used to, and only knew about because of Bellus and his damn books he left all over the dorm. So he just covers it up with what he knows best - false cockiness

- “Y-you- Of course you do! Who doesn’t?! This happens all the time, aha...”

- It doesn’t

- He’s having a heart attack, how the hell does anyone enjoy resding about this?? Kritana's gonna have to wait awhile for his response..

CASPIAN

- There’s only a hum from him and he doesn’t even open his eyes as he floats in his merform

- “I was wondering when you’d admit it.”

- Finally his eyes do open to look at her at her response. He's very calm considering the situation

- "A pirate captain should do better at lying. Work on that, okay?"

- And then he goes back to floating. Not quite a rejection, not quite an acceptance. That's just how Neverland mermaids are. ..

KENN

- Kenn stares at her for a moment before giving her a gentle head pat with a tired smile

- "Kritana... you should rethink that. There's better partners out there..."

- He doesn't think he's a good option for people to date to be honest. A lot of his life revolves around having to keep the rest of the quartet safe and out of trouble

- Kenn just doesn't want to get her dragged into that, especially when she still has a life of her own to experience
