I started writing a book.
And Iâm mad about it, because I just started this post, brought up a new tab and lost it because I didnât save my draft.
Anyway. Thatâs a thing I did. Wow.
As of this moment, this post wonât be going up until April 19th, but Iâm starting writing this at 10.30pm on Sunday, February 21st, 2021. Iâve done a lot in the last couple weeks, and I want to have some record of all Iâve accomplished without just letting most of it fade over the next two months.
Iâve always wanted to be an author. From when I was reading under my covers with a torch past bedtime, through the years I wanted to be an artist, through the years I wanted to be a lawyer. Itâs always been there - no matter what primary career path I went down, I wanted to be an author. The last few years, Iâve been invested in becoming a biologist, and that dream really took a backseat.
In the start of this lockdown, my mental health went downhill, and some advice my therapist gave me was just to prioritise myself. It sounds simple enough, but, even in my free time, Iâd been focusing on schoolwork - revising constantly for exams Iâm still not sure are actually happening. (Boris Johnson is apparently making an announcement tomorrow about beginning to ease lockdown, but weâll see) So, on Saturday, February 6th, I started an attempt to coalesce the ideas I had floating in my head into something tangible.
Iâve tried to write books countless times (not technically countless - I have all the documents on my laptop, so I could if I wanted to), but mostly, Iâve never gotten further than a couple bare plot points and some characters, maybe some ideas for subplots, before Iâve stagnated and given up.
Three times, Iâve finished a skeletal outline. Twice, Iâve started to go back over those outlines only to realise they made no sense or just seemed week, and simply not cared enough to fix it. Until now, I guess.
February 6th, 7th, and fast-forward to my week off beginning the 15th, up until the 19th, I kept developing this concept Iâd managed to form, but I was struggling to establish a coherent plot. I had up until and including a midpoint (which was later condensed into just a first act), but everything after that was just a void. I began searching for some skeletal structure I could apply to it, both to work on pacing and fill in the blanks. I tried several, and got a little further, but was about to give up hope.
Then I remembered a video by Katytastic Iâd watched years ago about the 3-act, 9-block, 27-chapter structure she used, and couldnât see the harm in giving it a go. And something clicked.
You can find the video here - the structureâs detailed and easy to follow, plus she even gives an example of using it to generate a plot.
I started binge-watching her writing vlogs in the background, and even started using her same writing program, Scrivener, which just made every a thousand times easier by taking away the need to juggle a billion Word documents. Itâs fairly pricey, but Iâm currently using the 30-day free trial - itâs 30 days of use, not of ownership, too: if you use it every day, it lasts 30 days, but if you use it once a week, it lasts 30 weeks.
Where Kat used the 27 parts the structure broke down into as chapters, I chose to refer to them as beats, and separate chapters later.
On Saturday the 20th, I finished defining my scenes and started writing an actual draft. I wrote two scenes, putting me at a collective word count (not including notes, synopses, etc.) of 2,580 words.
This morning, Sunday the 21st, I started over. I hated my opening. Iâm not going to go through the mess of todayâs process, but I currently have around 80 one-line-outline scenes, split into 3 acts. I wrote a draft of my prologue and detailed-outlined (which Iâm mentally referring to as zero-outlining because itâs similar to how Katytastic does what she calls a zero draft, but is very much outlining, not a draft) two and a half other chapters. Scriver also tells me how many words I wrote in total, across notes, character profiles, location lists, a document Iâve named âTrain of Thoughtâ for my ramblings as I go etc.
Today, I wrote a grand total of 4,141 words, which, rather counterintuitively, puts me at a draft total of 2,598. That makes sense. Anyway.
There are a lot of unknowns in the world right now, and I have no idea how much time Iâll have in the next six months to invest in this project, but Iâd like, at bare minimum, to have one complete draft by the start of the next school year in September, which gives me just over 6 months. Which is probably too much time to actually motivate myself, but thatâs not the point.
A manuscript needs to have a minimum word count of 50K words to be considered a novel, so, even though my ultimate goal for this project is around 80K words, 50K is going to be my goal for this draft.
Iâm being optimistic about sticking with this.
Tuesday 23/02/2021 - Word Count: 3,099 I wrote nothing yesterday; planning to focus writing solely on days off rather than work days, but last night, watching through the incredibly long queue of Alexa Donne writing videos, I came to the conclusion writing every day, even just a little, would be the best way to ensure I keep working on this, so I set myself a goal of just 500 words a day.
Wednesday 24/02/2021 - Word Count: 5,350 After doing a little bit of maths as to how long this outlining and draft would take me if I were to only write 500 words a day, I decided to boost that goal to 1,000. I got started around 1pm today, online school draining me so much I couldnât face another two hours. I worked on and off until 6pm, and around 4.45pm, I finished outlining Act One!
Thursday 25/02/2021 - Word Count: 7,022 I continued my scene outlining into Act Two, but I hit a brick wall around the midpoint. I have to write chronologically - some people jump around, but I have to write linearly, or it feels like Iâm trying to make something in a void. It just doesnât work. I didnât know how to get from one scene to the next - there were so many things I needed to establish to get there, but I didnât want to backtrack. I decided to re-jig the whole thing, but, after dinner, I realised I didnât have to, and instead, decided to just start a draft, conscious of the things I need to establish as I go.
Friday 26/02/2021 - Word Count: 8,208 Starting draft one, I rewrote the prologue Iâd already written, technically putting me to my second draft of it, because Iâd been thinking about it for days and just wanted to revisit it, and it was so much better. Then I moved on to chapter one, but decided I wanted to re-jig my chapters. While outlining, Iâd split the whole book into only about twenty chapters, but decided to go for shorter ones for more effective divisions of the story. I got most of the way through the first scene of chapter one, but basically ran out of both time and motivation, since I hadnât heavily outlined that scene. in total, I wrote over 2000 words today, but because I only increased the prologue word count by about 100 words, it didnât do that much to the total count.
Saturday 27/02/2021 - Word Count: 11,050 I got some chores done Saturday morning and focused on finishing my book so I could include it in my February wrap-up, but I still had time to get some writing done around mid-day. My goal was just to hit 10K this weekend, but I though I could do it in one day. I wrote about 1,000 words before feeling a little word-drained, but took a break for lunch, got back to it and wrote 2,400 words. Though that only added a little over 2,000 to the word count, it took me to 10K! Iâm 20% of the way to being able to call it a novel! Weâre in quintuple digits!
And then eight hours later, I wrote another thousand words and got to 11K.
Sunday 28/02/2021 - Word Count: 13,722 I spent most of my Sunday morning writing, though it took me more than two hours to write about 1500 words, though it only added about 1100 to my count. I decided to set myself an overall and weekly deadlines to hold myself accountable. Due to the fact I donât yet have a clue how many words this will work out as, I decided I wanted to have either a complete first draft or 100K words (which I doubt Iâll reach, but it seems like a good way to make myself finish the draft before my deadline) by the end of April. Which works out to a little under 1500 words a day, or just under 11K a week, which is perfectly doable. Bearing in mind my current word count is including outlines, but I still believe in myself.
I wrote another 1600 words later, which took me to 14K, until I deleted the 300 word outline I wrote for one scene, but I worked out my words per day for the next two months with the assumption of a 10K word count as of March 1st and a target of either a complete draft or 100K words by the end of April, so Iâm nearly 4,000 words ahead of schedule. Which gives me 6,606 words to write this week, instead of 10,328. (If you couldnât tell, I like numbers. They just make sense to me.
Monday 01/03/2021 - Word Count: 15,005 I didnât quite hit my daily goal, but I was completely leached of motivation today, Iâm ahead of schedule anyway and I was only under by less than 200 words. Itâs alright. But, hey, we hit 15K! Two days after hitting 10K!
Tuesday 02/03/2021 - Word Count: 21,119 This was an insane writing day. My end-of-day target was only 16,480, and that was still ahead of schedule - if I was sticking to the 100K by April 30th, Iâd only actually need to be at 12,950 today. This was the best writing day Iâve ever had. I wrote before school and during breaks, which kept both my writing and working momentum up.
I didnât read a page of my current read, but I wrote a total of 7,681 words and increased my wordcount by 6,114 words, or literally an additional 40.75%. I hit 20K three days after hitting 10K, and am 42.238% of the way to being able to say I wrote a novel, be it a shitty first draft that wonât be complete at 50K words.
I also finished chapter three, which Iâve been working on for three days and came out ~5,000 words, and wrote chapters four and five in their entirety.
Note to self: this is day 10 of vaguely outline-drafting this project.
Wednesday 03/03/2021 - Word Count: 23,364 I've only written 490 words today, as of writing this update, but I just wanted to make note of the fact I've done some calculations, and can reasonably finish my draft this month. I'm still not completely sure how long it'll work out to be, so I can't quite work out my daily words to finish on the 31st, but if I stick to my current 1,475 words a day, I'll hit 63,894 words by the end of the month, which is a little less than I imagine this draft will be, but if I stick to that as a minimum, my first draft won't have to go into April.
I'd like to post this later this week, but I already have a post for this Friday, so God only knows how long this will be by the time it goes up. So far, I've written 1,900 words today, and I don't think I'm out of fuel yet, but I'm stopping because I need to read today, and I'd rather not burn out. I'm over my goal, anyway.
Oh, also, I'm nearly at 25K, which is halfway to a novel, but I haven't broken into Act Two yet, which means this book will be 75K minimum. I'm going to do some maths and work out how many words a day to hit 80K by March 31st. 2,030. That's doable. So I haven't read, but back to writing for like ten minutes.
I've now hit an additional 2,245 words for the day, though I wrote a total of 2,663
Thursday 04/03/2021 - Word Count: 25,415 I've decided to work out how many words I need to write each day to hit 80K by March 31st, and watch the fluctuations. (I like statistics). It should steadily go down throughout the month if I surpass it each day. Today's minimum word count is 2,023, already seven words less than yesterday's. How exciting.
The last scene of Act One was very heavy on world-building I haven't yet figured out, so I stuck what was meant to happen in brackets and just moved on, meaning I have now broken into Act Two!
I think, during the week, I'm going to focus on just meeting my minimum word count rather than exceeding it, just to save fuel for the weekends, when I can write so many more words.
And, we hit 25K! I'm halfway to a novel!
Friday 05/03/2021 - Word Count: 26,693 In complete honesty, I'm beginning to lose momentum. Maybe it's just today, but I don't really want to write and feel like I need a break, but I'm going to make myself write anyway. I'm going to make myself keep writing until this draft is done, however shitty it may end up. I really hate first drafts.
When you say 2,000 words is only 7-8 pages, it doesn't sound like that much to write per day but my god. Luckily, most of the stuff I've had to save to a Pinterest board called 'Writing Motivation' says if you write when you don't want to, it should pass instead of worsening. I wanted to hit 35K this weekend, but I'm not sure I'll have the momentum. I'll at least hit 31,270, though, which is my minimum goal for this week. I'm still over 700 words off my goal for today, but I'm taking a break because my head is foggy and there's still eight hours left in the day. Besides, 700 after dinner is easy. She says, realising she's probably jinxing it. Oh, well. 80K by March 31st would be difficult, even if I weren't going back to school soon, but that's a stretch goal. 100K by April 31st is my minimum, and I'm 9,000 ahead of where I need to be for that.
I think Iâm stagnating because Iâve hit the âFun and Gamesâ section, which I find really boring. Iâm going to try to keep going with it, but I may just skip it and come back later.
Saturday 06/03/2021 - Word Count: 28,150 So, I did not get the extra 700 words in. Before dinner, some stuff I had to deal with came up, and by the time it was done, I just wanted to go to bed, so I did. Today, I'm going to try to make up for it, which I think is reasonable because it is now the weekend. I'm still kinda exhausted this morning, but I'm going to do my best, and my wrist hurts, but I'm not sure why. You'd think it would be from all the typing, but only one wrist hurts - you know what? Never mind. They do both hurt. I'm just not sure why, but it doesn't hurt typing this, so that doesn't make any sense. Anyway, to hit my word count for the day, I need to write 2,555 words, which doesn't sound like too much, but it kinda is because I'm primarily writing Act Two at the minute, and for every thousand words I write, I lose like 400 from my outline. You'd think I'd just not include my scene outlines in the word count, but it's too late for that now.
I'm thinking this over, and I really don't think trying to write 80K by the end of the month is going to be good for either my motivation, mental health, or ability to function back at school, so I'm going to stick to 100K or a finished draft by April 30th, and re-work out my goals from there, based on yesterday's word count, so I'm not making myself do catch-up today.
So, to hit 100K by April 30th, I only need to write 1,309 words each day (which will decrease over time because if that's my minimum now, I'll probably surpass it, decreasing the amount of words left etc.). That's so much less pressure.
God, I really don't want to write today. I just want to watch YouTube and Netflix and read.
Okay, so here's the thing. I've been working on this story straight for three weeks and I'm kinda exhausted of it. I'm not done with it, not at all, and I want to keep working on it because it exists, which makes it workable.
I watched a writing vlog by ShaelinWrites yesterday, and she said she writes different projects at once, alternating in week- or multi-week-long blocks. I think I might try that.
My plan with this post and the following updates was to keep updating it until the day it goes up, the day after which is when I begin drafting the next, but, since I may be switching projects for a while and this is really about the project I've decided to dub 'Bay Tree' (which is just, I guess, a pseudonym for here because while I have no idea what it would eventually be called, I know that's nothing like the title I'd want to give it) so I'd want to start a new post for a new project.
I'm now doing a little outlining instead of actually continuing writing, but I think this will help me, though I'm still not certain about whether or not I'm going to directly continue with this specific project for the minute. Instead of setting daily goals based on a target, I'm also just going to say 1,000 words a day, and see where that takes me.
I've just been outlining into Act Three, and I've met a major plot stumble, but I'm going to work that out and explain what I'm doing in my next writing update.
So, go drink some water, eat if you haven't eaten in the last few hours, stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself how wonderful you are and how much happiness you deserve, and, if you want to write a book, stop thinking about it, and go write.

Chapter 40.75: Step the FUCK Up Kyle!
The two arrive at the venue after everyone thanks to Jinâs portal express. Seeing everyone have fun sparked joy and even more excitement for the future. There was no gift or money giving because both of us were well off and just wanted everyone to attend. No garter toss because Tenya drinks respect women juice but I did toss the bouquet. That turned out to be a disaster because Pixie Bob, Midnight and some of the other single heroes were fighting each other for it. Then came my favorite part, the couples dance. We danced to Around by Niki with a slide-show of pictures on the screen behind us. We did a bunch of fancy floating moves with our quirks and we finally had our slow dance kiss at the end. Then came cake, it was almost too pretty to eat and I got a little dodgy when we were supposed to feed a piece to each other. The wedding photographer unfortunately captured all that nervousness but it was funny to look back at. I did so much dancing and drinking with my agent friends that Tenya had to take care of me toward the end of the night. We said our goodbyes and thank yous before going home.
âTenya! I love you bitccchhh!â I was drunkenly serenading him.
âI know you doâ
âIâm never gonna stop loving you, bitccchhhhh!â
Tenya was trying to undo the straps on my dress âHold still, Iâm trying to get you out of your dress.â
âOh Iâll just-â I teleport out of my dress with just my underwear on âoops, Iâm nakey hehehe.â
âAh so thatâs how you do itâ he finally figured out my secret to fast undressing and dressing âyou teleport in and out of clothes!â
âYupâ I teleport out of my underwear ânow Iâm true nakeyâ I throw myself onto Tenya âIâm not a virgin but I want you to do me like one.â
âNo darling, youâre drunkâ he took off his suit jacket âbut if you wait a bit, we can bathe together.â
âWill you wash my hair?â
âYesâ
âWill you take off my makeup?â
âOf course, Iâll even do your skincareâ He hoisted her up and took her to the bath âyou want me to braid your hair after?â
âYes pleaseâ I respond as I watch him make the bath âwould you still love me if I was a boy?â
âYes of course!â Tenya looked at her âI fell in love with the person you are.â
âWould you still love me if I wasnât rich or successful?â
âI loved you before the riches and success, regardless, my heart is yours.â
The bath was ready and I didnât have anymore questions, just too much affection as he tried to bathe me. I didnât even remember what I said when I was drunk, I blacked out at the venue when Mimi and I pounded shots while the DJ played some oldies. Next thing I knew I was waking up next to Tenya with a bunch of love marks and bites on him. We went on a honeymoon to a government protected piece of coast where anybody can use their quirks, it was one of those quirk tourism things that peaked my interest. We spent our time getting drunk and beating the other couples at the quirk games that were being hosted. Just a whole week of just that, then things got pretty serious work wise when we got back.
-Robo Dog INC offices-
âNot to cause alarmâ Beizu spoke up after reviewing some spreadsheets âbut we canât keep up with demand.â
âOh shit really?â I questioned as I leaned over to see the sheets âfuuuck you right, does that mean weâre closing off or postponing consultations?â
âClosing off for 3 months at least!â He rubbed his face âI have some this week then Iâll be turning away people for robo companion.â
âHow about you just schedule them 4 months out?â
âThat might be a better ideaâ He sipped his coffee âbut we need to start looking into expand the work floorâ he sets his empty cup down âwe canât hire more people to work until we have the space for more.â
âI know! But to be honest, all the bigger buildings are too far to my likingâ I slumped in my chair âI have to wait for a nearby one to go on the market.â
The company was in need of a lot of things in terms of expanding but I didnât want to start any of it yet. And it was a good thing I didnât because there was a rise in the villain world. The League of Villains recruited more people for an uprising and Black Phantom was called upon to take it down from the inside.
âI really wish we couldâve just sniped the hand-man while we had the chanceâ Jin sighed as he put on his gear âthen maybe everything would be at peace.â
âYea but heâs a good source of intelâ I responded âbut you know the goal for tonight, we get the hot one with the bird-mask and get out.â
âWhy the fuck do all the villains gotta be so hot!â complained Mimi as she loaded her holsters âitâs not fair!â
âCan we refocus please?â I sternly snapped âweâre close to the hideout, if we get lucky, we could smoke them out again.â I lowered my visor âvoice changers on yall, itâs go time!â
We raid the place silently and it seemed almost too easy this time but it was easy. Who knew that everyone was sleeping with no guard? I floated us in and once we found the person of interest, Jin just floor portaled them to the holding cell and we followed after.
âOh man that was scary easyâ I was in disbelief âdid yall see all the spooning going on?â
âYea! That was weird as hell but oddly cuteâ Mimi commented âspeaking of oddly cute, who is this perp?â
âThis is Kai Chisaki, aka Overhaulâ I pull up the criminal record âhe was responsible for some black market quirk erasing bullets and one count of child endangerment.â I show them the picture of the victim âyou remember this little girl? The one the green twink and naked man rescued?â
âOH I remember! Poor girl was in pretty bad shape but sheâs all grown up now!â Jin recalled âso this is the man that got away?â
âYea apparently after Mirio got his quirk taken away but just before the green one ran off with the girlâ I put the holding cell on lockdown âthis guy and Nighteye fought but then he ran off and disappeared before he sustained serious damage. And he remained at large for years, almost cold cased until the new intel on the League.â
Mimi peered into the holding cell âWhy are all the hot ones the most fucked up?!â she watched him thrash about âso weâre just gonna leave this one up to the interrogation team huh?â I nod in response, she sighs âare you going to pay a visit to the little girl?â
âYup but this time Iâm not going to dread this house visitâ I smile âAizawa got full custody of her when she turned 10 and sheâs like 14 now.â
-Two Days later-
âItâs so nice to see you again Miss Palma!â Eri excitedly exclaimed âer, I should say Mrs Iida!â
I stifle my laugher âOh itâs nice to see you too Eri!â I get pounced on by the girl âvery lively! But I donât have much time to play Iâm afraidâ I turn to Aizawa âthank you for letting me visit today, I know itâs your day off and you much rather nap.â
âNot a problem! Youâre allowed to disrupt my free daysâ he motions me to sit in the living room âEri, would you please serve the tea?â We sit as Eri walks out of earshot âSoooo, are we expecting another turbo child?â
I choke on air âOh you got me fucked up! Iâm not pregnantâ I chuckled âsorry to disappoint but I donât want a child just yetâ I look at the picture on his end table of him, Mic, Eri and Shinso âchildren donât just magically appear at my doorstep for me to care for like you!â
âWell, I was excited to be a grandpa, because Iâd still be hotâ he joked as Eri came back with tea âOkay then, what do you need to tell us?â
âThank you Eriâ I politely accepted her pour of tea âitâs about Overhaul, I caught him and is under custody in our facilities.â
âYouâve done it?!â Aizawa almost spilled tea on himself âhow? The Hero Society deemed it cold-case!â
âIâve been gaining intel from the League and other villain groups for years now via a spyâ I sip tea âthe moment we got word that the League was hiding him with confirmed sighting, my team and I swooped in and captured himâ I hand him a folder âhere, I know youâve been working tirelessly to solve this for her sake. Youâd be surprised what we found.â
âI donât believe it!â he skimmed the pages âheâs been hiding right under our noses, of course Hawks had something to do with it!â he closes the folder âdoes that mean Eri can-â
âYes, it means that Eri can attend a hero academy if she wishes to do soâ I smiled as I finished his sentence âit also means that she no longer needs protected accompaniment, can travel beyond the 10 mile radius and can apply of a drivers license when sheâs of age.â
âI can go to the mall by myself?!â Eri perked up âand I can go to UA?!â she turns to Aizawa, starry eyed.
âYouâre not going to the mall by yourself! Iâll always be there with youâ he said sternly but then chuckled âbut yes you can go to UA, and just in time too! Entrance exams are coming up.â
âYAY! Thank you so much Mrs Iida!â she pounces on me again for a hug âI promise to do my best for all youâve done for me!â
âOh you sweet childâ I start to tear up âitâs not a problem! I know youâll do your best.â We say our goodbyes and I make my way home. Itâs October now and Iâm so satisfied with my life. At least, as much as I can control it. Itâs been a month since the last Iâve heard from my caseworker about everything back home. Nothing has gotten better, more people I knew had fled their homes, leaving their parents behind in all the violence. It seems hopeless and I wish I could do something to help. At least my family is safe and getting by, I send them money so they can live as comfortably as they did when we lived in the old house. I miss my old home but Iâm more excited to establish family to make it more homely.
âHow was the visit?â asked Tenya, breaking my train of thought.
âOh it was great!â I stretch my back âEri is getting so big! And sheâs planning to attend UA now that Iâve solved the cold case.â
âThats amazing!â he comes closer to give me a tight embrace âyou make such an impact in our community and Iâm so proud of you every time you change the fate of others.â
âIâm just doing what I can within my powerâ I hug him back âyou know I donât give up on anything it I could help it.â
âItâs one of the things I love the most about youâ he lifted her up âhow lucky am I to have one of the sweetest souls in the world as my love?â
Luck had nothing to do with it, I best describe my time in this country as a train wreck that gets progressively weirder and itâs fixed with some duct tape. But I only live one day at a time, Iâll worry about the destination later when the time comes. Time passes us fast, once you get married itâs like time passes faster! Itâs been a year and some change, Iâm 25 and still very humble with all the riches and successes that has followed me. Tenya is 26 and slowly reaching the upper 20â˛s in the hero ranking, thanks to his brother and myself to help him along the way. Itâs mid January, Tenya gets sent on a week long mission in Sendai, itâs the first time in years that we spent time apart. I made sure I make his welcome very momentous, because I had so much to share with him when he came back.
âIâm home!â Tenya yelled excitedly as he walk through the door âI missed saying that!â
âWelcome home Tenyaâ the little robo yipped âMom missed you, sheâs waiting for you in the main room.â
âOh? Thank youâ he was a bit taken back by this change of greeting, heâs so used to hearing Ita respond back. He makes his way to the living room, passing the kitchen and hallway to the guest room.
âWelcome home Tenya!â I yelled once I saw him âI missed you soooo much!â I jump on him for a tight hug âmmhm! I donât think I like you being gone for so longâ I pepper kisses on him âI need my man to love me so I can annoy him with my affection.â
âYou know your affection doesnât annoy meâ he laughed at my clinginess âI miss giving you besitos and holding you close at nightâ he lingered on my hug âoh darling, it was rough out there but Iâm so happy to be home.â
âI hope youâre hungry because I cooked you a grand meal!â I excitedly lead him to the table âta-da! a four course meal in the candlelight!â
âFour courses?! Oh you missed me, missed meâ he was shocked by the amount of thought I put into his welcome. As we ate, he told me of his time in Sendai and the other heroes that were called upon â...and I really hope that family is safe. Also do you think this trip will boost me up the ranking?â
âI talked to Tensei about that actually the other dayâ I said as I was walking back with dessert âhe said that it will if you make it onto the media, like if they name you. Otherwise it wonât.â
He watches me set down dessert âBerry tart! Oh what splendid memories just flooded backâ he cracked a big dumb smile as I served him a slice âremember when we went to that cafe at the end of 1st year and I was too shy to sit that close to you?â he took a bite âand as usual, everything you make is delicious! Oh man if only I told you that day I had feelings for you, it was a perfect winter day spent with you.â
âOh stop! You had your chances, even on the bad days!â I playfully hit his arm âbut I wouldâve probably started to cry right there on the town plaza if you confessedâ I suddenly remembered my big piece of news âOh! I almost forgot, this invitation came in the mail earlier in the weekâ I levitated a yellow envelope with âIida Householdâ on the front of it in nice handwriting âI wanted to wait for you to come back to open it, since itâs addressed to both of us.â
He opens the envelope âIt looks like a... birthday invitation?â he furrowed his brow and thought for a moment âwhoâs birthday is coming up? I canât recall anyoneâs except yours.â He opens the card and reads aloud:
Dear Iida household,
Hello! Iâd like to invite you to my birthday! You see, itâs my very first one and Iâm very excited to see you attend. You donât know me but Iâd like to get aquatinted with the both of you. Thereâs not much about me but my birthday is on July 28th, Iâm a Leo. Itâs a long way from now but I wanted to let you know because I know how busy being a Hero and a CEO must be. Anyways, I hope to see you then!
Yours Truly,
p.s. It just occurred to me that I donât have a name yet, maybe you can help me with that and thatâll be your present to me!
âHuh, a person with no name?â he reread the invitation âand no address to said birthdayâ he turned to me âdid the couple a few rows in front of us have a child that I wasnât aware of?â
I stifle my laugh âNope, read the invite againâ I point to the p.s. part âsee how theyâre asking you for a name for a present?â
âI see that but what an odd requestâ he chopped, missing the point âwouldnât it be customary to give a gift for a growing child? Itâs their first birthday!â he sees me hold in my laugh âDONâT LAUGH! Tell me what am I not getting, youâre the riddle and puzzles expert.â
âTenya, what did I serve you in this 4 course meal?â
âBaby quiche, side salad of baby greens with snow peas, steak with baby carrots and baby cornâ he pointed at the tart â and berry tart...but I donât see how the meal relates to this mysterious invitation?â
âOh goodness youâre hopelessâ I laugh as I stand up âthink long and hard Tenya, lots of baby named food, invite to a birthday 6 and a half months away, person that wants a name as a present and that we donât know.â
He spends a good 5 minutes of mumbling to himself, trying to make sense of all the clues I pulled for him âIâm afraid I canât crack this caseâ he checks the envelop for anything he couldâve missed âwhat did you piece from this?â
I couldnât contain my laughter, I was tearing up laughing âWelp, I guess Iâll tell yaâ I grab his hand and put it on my stomach âwelcome home....daddy.â
He didnât get it at first then it all clicked âIta...your pregnant?!â he fell to his knees and put both hands on my stomach âoh my- Iâm such an idiot!â he put his forehead on my stomach âwhy did you marry me, I canât figure out something thatâs so blatantly written out for me!â
âSilly, it doesnât matter nowâ I put my hand on his head âweâre going to be parents! Isnât that exciting that weâre building that future we thought weâd never get to?â
âYes, Iâm so excited to see the life youâre growingâ he looked up at me, tears in his eyes âI said you could start your happy family with me, now itâs all coming together.â he kisses my stomach âyou hear that? I canât wait to meet you!â
I go through pregnancy once again but this time I took maternity leave at both jobs right at the 5th month of my pregnancy. I mainly did it to avoid publicity and cameras, so I can do my thing in peace. Surprisingly, I was the first one in my company to go on leave and it made me want to rewrite the leave so youâd get 8 months off instead of 5. So on said leave, I did the rewrite and had Beizu do all that paperwork and update everyone. He hated me for it but at least I wasnât in the office overworking myself while heavily pregnant. We didnât want a baby shower, mainly because we were already well off and it seemed like theft if we made our friends come and give us baby stuff. I ordered the baby stuff online for in-store pick up and uncle Jin and aunty Mimi would go get it for me. They were very excited to be an uncle and aunt to the point of jumping ahead to how my baby will interact and love them. My parents and in-laws were super pleased with the fact that we were pregnant. The In-laws announced it to the rest of the family and they all cheered that the family name will stay nice and strong. We decided to just have the crib and other baby stuff in our bedroom so we donât have to have a baby monitor and have our baby within reach. It was nearly go time when Tenya got leave and I was in that nesting mode.
âWe have to set up the bottle warming station!â I said franticly setting up the small machine âIâm going to pumping so much itâs not even funny! OH! can you-â
âRelax Ita, please!â Tenya begged âyouâve been up since 6am and hardly sat downâ he rubbed her shoulders âwhy donât you let me set this up while you take a nap nap on the couch? Iâll have a snack waiting for you when you wake up.â
âAlright, if it will make you feel betterâ I lean into his hands âthen Iâll take a break.â I lay down and the baby started moving like crazy, not letting me sleep.Â
âOh you woke up?â Tenya asked as he saw me quickly sit up after an hour.
âNot to cause alarmâ I slowly turn to where Tenya was and calmly spoke âbut my water broke....deadass.â
Now Tenya was in panic as I calmly called Mimi and Jin that it was time. As we got in the car, I called my parents that I was on my way to the hospital to give birth. I canât go to a regular hospital, so I have to go to a government protected one thatâs an hour away from the gated community. Lucky me that Jin can portal us there in an instant. I was in labor for a while and gave natural birth to our first child. I didnât need to go into stasis nor get stitched up, so I got see my baby for those crucial first few days. We got home just before the first summer storm.
âOh wow look at you!â I cooed at my baby âyouâre not scared of the rain or any of those big scary noises huh?â
âIs that normal?â asked Tenya, still trying to figure out how babies work.
âNot sure, but my mom said I was a very quiet and unfussy babyâ I yawned âso maybe they got it from me.â
âCome on, both of you take a nap!â he coaxed the new mom to the couch âIâll hold you both in my arms.â
âYouâre too muchâ I yawned as I nestled myself in his arms with the baby in mine âbut I love you.â
Tenya took in his surroundings, the house was quiet and the rain was coming down hard with some thunder in the far distance. He looked down to see the baby looking back up at him, the same way Ita would look at him when heâd hold her. âCanât sleep? What is it?â he asked the newborn âthis is your home, weâre going spend every waking moment here with you. Doesnât that sound nice?â the newborn freed one of their hands from the blanket to extend out âOh my sweet, little girlâ he kissed their hand âI canât wait to see the person youâll become in our hectic and wonderful world.â
About a month later, we invited our friends to meet our baby. Literally, Tenya wanted a âmeet our babyâ party instead of a birthday party because he REALLY wanted to show off our baby. I donât blame him, we made a cute baby.
âWhat a cutie! Awwwâ Midnight squealed âwhat did you end up naming her?â
âLili Perlaâ I responded with the baby in my arms âlike the flower. Would you like to hold her?â
âI would!â she cradled the baby gently âHello!~ Itâs your aunty Midnight! I canât wait to see you grow up into a little turbo kid like daddy. Or curly haired rebel like mommy.â
âNemuri, isnât my niece the cutest baby?!â cried out Tensei âI can tell sheâll have most of the Iida strong traits!â
âThat terrifies meâ I split my gaze between the two brothers âI canât deal with yo rectangular like, fucked up brows havin asses! My baby is gonna be the prettiest little thing with all my familyâs beauty traits.â
âI hope sheâs outspoken like youâ Midnight hands me back the baby âwe need more Itas in this world.â
âOh look itâs Lili-chan!â cooed Ochako with her son in her arms âsay hi Maru! Sheâs going to be your friend and play with you when she gets big enough.â
âDonât be shy Maruâ coaxed Midoriya âthe Iidaâs are our friends and Lili will be a very loyal friend just like their mom and dad.â
We watched the little boy wave and Lili waving back âOh sheâs picking up fast!â exclaimed Midnight âthatâs peculiar.â
âRight?! She already knows basic things like greetings, waving, attention grabbing and flails her arms to musicâ I giggle a bit âlike, she canât talk but she gives a little yell when Tenya comes home and a long yell when she needs something. She doesnât cry for anything!â
âHey guys, I heard baby talk and had to see the little ladyâ Mineta said as he walked up to me âmay I hold her?â
âSure, make sure you support her head.â
âHi there! Iâm your cool uncle Minoruâ he cooed at the baby âone day Iâll give you a cousin to play with.â
The baby didnât bide well with the grape man and started crying âOh no! She hates youâ Todoroki said flatly âhere, let me.â He held the baby and she instantly stopped crying âSee? She doesnât mind me.â
I started laughing âOh fuck sheâs learning a little too fast!â I saw that Shoto brought Touya with him âHi Touya, surprised to see you here.â
âYea, I had to see for myself that you had a babyâ he said as he peered over Shotoâs shoulder to see the baby âwhat a cute little squishâ Shoto hands him the baby âyou donât know me but your mommy saved me from some baddies and brought me to my family, donât you grow up and give your mother trouble!â He turns to me âshe isnât afraid of me.â
âSeems like she isnât afraid of anything yetâ Touya hands me the baby âIâm sure itâs just a curiosity phase and sheâll be crying more as she gets older.â
âMay I hold her?â Tokoyami asked me âlets see if she will cry with me.â I hand her over and she smiled as her hands touched his beak ânope, sheâs like her mother, curious and gigglyâ he nuzzles her and Dark Shadow comes out to see the baby. Lili sees it and starts to grunt to touch it âYou want Dark Shadow? Um, okay.âÂ
âI donât believe itâ Shinso smirked âyou two managed to make the ideal baby in one tryâ Tokoyami hands Shinso the baby âoh the things youâll get to experience with your mother, lucky youâ Lili tugs on his shirt âwhat is it? You like the satin shirt?â Lili grunts in response âIta what are you feeding this child to have them this...smart?â
âIâm just breastfeeding her I swear!â I look to Tenya âwe have no idea if her level of response is because of a quirk or itâs her own level of intelligence and weâre just doing a good job at stimulating her enough.â
Seeing her grow up into little Miss Independent was quite the journey for a new parent. She was walking at 11 months old and running a few weeks after her 1st birthday, causing a lot of mischief. At 1 and 4 months she was talking in English and Japanese, small phrases like âhowdyâ âmomâ âdadâ âdoggyâ âhotâ and ânot niceâ. Her first word was doggy because Muffin 2.0 had to switch roles from security to nanny when sheâd run around the house. When she turned two, her quirk grew in, smaller rocket-like engines on her feet! The amount of joy the Iida family got from hearing about this brought them to tears that the legacy will live on. My family was impressed that it wasnât telekinesis and was excited to see another random quirk in our gene pool. But it didnât stop there, when she got a little runny nose and blew her nose, her clothes instantly turned to threads! She had a second quirk, Master Thread! Tenya and I were so happy that she was blessed with two separate quirks that we helped her in anyway possible to develop her skills better at home. She really liked dancing and all the pretty costumes, so I put her in private lessons and fell in love with it. We didnât stop at her though, we had another baby after Liliâs 3rd birthday, a baby boy named Iwata El Roca. And 4 years after him, twins! A boy and girl named Hanaka Rosa and Tensei Oro...can you tell who named who? It was a full house come Christmas time of six people and a robo dog. Everyone was tired and sprawled about on the couch, Lili was holding Hanaka on the far side, Ita was holding Iwata as she leaned on Tenyaâs shoulder. Tenya was cradling baby Tensei and everyone was asleep after a grand meal and watching a holiday movie, except for Tenya. He took in his surroundings and sighed. He was in a new home, the house was quiet with just the sounds of his family breathing, snow was falling outside, everyone was safe and warm. How weird that everything fell into place when he fell in love with one person, now he shares his love in 5 different people that show it back.
âHnn, Tenyaâ Ita drowsily spoke âwe have to put the kids to bed.â
âJust 5 more minutes, please love.â He softly responded âWhen will we ever have them this little and peaceful again?â
âFine, 5 more minutesâ she pulled her son closer to her chest âI love you.â
âI love you moreâ he kissed her forehead.
