As a Grima fan I don't not understand the very massive side of the fanbase from what I can see, that woobifies Grima. Like yes I am on the side that agrees Robin and Grima are the same to an extent; I see them as two consciences in the same body (I know this isn't at all canon however and true canon is Robin is possessed by Grima many things make that clear). But even if you have the hc they are the same one side does very evil and bad things and that's Grima. And yet I see often when seeing Grima posts oh he didn't actually kill anyone he had others do it for him or he was faking being evil the whole time, he feels bad about it all, he cares about Robin actually and no??? He's evil in Awakening. Like that's...his thing that what he existed to do. He was supposed to be a Loptous expy and I never see anyone arguing Loptous isn't actually evil. Having that Echoes backstory makes him different from Loptous now and it's fascinating; now he's FE Mewtwo, but he's very much a large ham of a villain, frankly he reminds me of those over the top 90's Disney villains, Scar, Hades, etc or a comic book villain there's reason for why he's the way he is BUT he loves being a little evil shit manipulating others, murder, hording his power over them, talking down to them; and thrives on it. That Forging Bonds in FEH with Fallen Chrom was the perfect example to show how nasty he was. NOW if you want to expand on him out of Awakening like in FEH go nuts Zenith is like a pocket where anything can happen and that's what makes it so fun for any character take them away from the things that tie them to their world and you can develop so many characters in creative ways but in the base game? He's the evil world destroying despair dragon, he's not faking anything, he doesn't feel bad about anything in canon; please let him be a horrible angry bitter little person/dragon/creature you don't need to look at Awakening and twist the very basic character he was written as to make him something he's not, it's okay to like the evil dragon because he's terrible, those are generally just fun characters!

been on a BL mood lately so i finished reading stigmata - seikon sousa and it's sequel aiken

okay so i knew the author from their kamen rider v3/riderman BL fanart and like. you can really notice they worked on that bc these guys are just yuki and kazami character design wise like look at ittt

but it puts a fresh spin into things by making the V3 expy into the uke! asako (the character in question) does get drawn softer in vols 2 & 3 to make him more uke but like. he still looks a lot like miyauchi. so seeing him basically play this soft pained doormat is so surreal but tbh it's part of the appeal

the premise is also really interesting!!! it's about a detective division led by superintendent kuroiwa (riderman) that solves crimes through asako's (V3) ability to reenact the deaths of people through his stigmata condition, which gives him the victim's wounds and lingering death thoughts whenever he's close to a murder scene. so kuroiwa and asako go around solving crimes while getting closer to each other and dealing with asako's condition...

so yeah this is good. this is reaaallly good i adore how the gay relationship develops and i got really invested into the way they solved the murders and the mysteries. it's really good shit

mind you there's a lot of gore and fucked up stuff happening bc this IS about a guy who reenacts brutal murders to solve them. it is a really compelling and interesting story though. asako as a character is suuuuper happacore and the art is GORGEOUS as hell so yes read it

i love all of the section six dudes too, they are all so fun. my fave is asako but like kuroiwa and ayako are great too. i love how well realized the characters are even with the short length

Hi! Thoughts on Enkidu's Arcade Route, and the others you've played or watched?

hihi! thank you for giving me an excuse to talk abt the uni2 arcade stuff hehe <:3 everyone's being hush hush abt it for the first month (understandable) but ive been itchingggg to talk about it! sorry for this response taking a day or two a big update for arcaea dropped when uni2 dropped and i was super occupied with that. uni2 spoiler under the cut obviously so youve been warned of the spoiler boogeyman okay? okay!!!!

i'm just gonna talk about the arcade routes that really interested me which is just codeword for amnesia and a select few Sorry to any orie fans or carmine fans or anyone i don't mention here (though carmine becoming a rebirth was interesting)

ENKIDU:

first things first. i wont lie i meowed at the screen when i saw enkidu got long hair in the ending cg. i already like enkidu for obvious reasons (he's hot and my type. most normal comphet videogame crush.) but then give him long hair and i'm like bouncing up and down my chair squealing and crying and throwing up!!!!! damn you yoshihara!!!! (shaking my fists)

the arcade route itself however seemed to imply and bring up a lot of interesting things about his power. they seem to hint at the power deep inside him is not even related to anything in the under night lore at all and its just his OWN thing he's dealing with which is really really cool to think about but since he's a lesser popular side character we will probably never get a satisfactory elaboration on it. great! i saw the person who's uploaded all the arcade modes say that the "demon" he addresses could have been inside of him from day one and is not something related to exs and in-birth turning and is not an inverse version of him, and i think that's a really cool working theory, also re-contextualizes the whole "body being so strong voids can barely pierce it" because voidlike exs cant fit in there if you have like, A Literal Fucking Demon inside of you. really taking advantage of the clear kouma expy... the demon inside of him takes over him very obviously in the ending which :( enki...i could save him...enkidu's story (at least in chronicle mode) has always had this underlying tone of depression but also being the stoic and less emotional fronting Martial Artist Fighting Game Character he has some form of uncertainty of dealing with those emotions beyond the art of fighting (insert the autistic individual enkidu picture here.) in uni2 arcade though he expresses the fact that he can't let the world end even if it is so tainted, albeit for his own answers, but he has a very genuine approach to the fate of kanzakai...i like to think he was starting to truly enjoy being apart of the world ever since the unib shenanigans started and gordeau's ending clearly shows that he does genuinely like being around amnesia and is a tease about it. deep down i think he really cares about the "tainted world" though his stoic disposition doesn't allow him to emote that well and thats just pure old man moe and i need more of it. but man the fact that he turns into a warded off demon to continue to live in that world is cruel irony...but a very interesting way to show his (presumable) development. fpan please for the love of god just give us that chronicle mode patch i need more of him you're implying so much cool shit emotionally and physically about him but RESTRICTING IT TO ARCADE ROUTES GRAHHH

half of this might just be insane delusioned interpretations but what am i if not tumblr user gaienenkidou, master enkidu scholar! tldr it was in an unexpected angle but also REALLY cool to muse about. i expected fpan to neglect any development for him in the first place but i came out with more answers and questions about him so for an enkidu liker like myself i'm pleased. could be better but pleased. At least out of the suffering he got a for realsies command grab move. now the next question is will 66c be fun again

KAGUYA:

don't have a whole essay about miss jinguu like enkidu thank god but when uni2 announcements dropped i was so fucking fixated on kaguya i am INCREDIBLY happy they made her playable finally, i imagine she's been in spriting development hell since she's had a shitton of placeholders from what i remember. the tsurugi pick is cool too but KAGUYA!!!!! I LOVE HIME CUT GIRLS WITH BIG BOOBS!!!!

her ending cg makes me feel a lot of emotions particularly about being attracted to women. she's so pretty. i'm incredibly interested in where she'll go from here since they scrapped her being from a wealthy family and being the ditzy sheltered rich girl to being an orphan with a dark past just posing as that exact trope. implications of her effect on licht kreis lore particularly silvaria are also cool to think about because licht kreis lore goes from really interesting to soul crushingly boring sometimes. her creepy loner girl to hime pipeline...she's perfect to me. love you kaguya mwah GORDEAU:

when i saw the description on a video of gordeau's arcade mode say he secured the good ending i was expecting something bittersweet BUT I WASN'T EXPECTING ROGER TO COME BACK EVEN THOUGH I FELT LIKE I SHOULD :') i think thats because i was expecting some sort of narrative where gordeau learns to kinda let go of it and just chill out with amnesia because i mean they're his homies too. thought he would have an arc in his arcade based on that but i think the indomitable and selfless spirit angle leading to him getting roger back is also pretty decent as well! no complaints. i wonder if theyre implying roger could be playable in the future but unlike ogre mmmm ehhh there's better npcs that deserve that first and roger isn't really striking, he always struck me as the guy there for a narrative purpose for gordeau (and amnesia.) his design is cool but less remarkable than like...londrekia when he was just a chronicles mode guy or azel/mercedes or uzuki when she was an arcade exclusive talk sprite. we'll see! :D

HILDA: don't have a lot to say cuz yeah that's about what i expected but She deserves it in my opinion hell yeah girl. really cool of them to use the insect ideas from ageha-chou (sorry i'm not saying the whole scientific name i'll malfunction) in her rebirth design. i want to touch her feelers.... CHAOS:

not a bunch to say again but thank you chaos for being the guy consistently advancing the lore and any terminology yet again sir yes sir oorah

BYAKUYA/STRIX:

yuri lives on...kind of really anticlimatic and i feel like there should've been more buildup but it just kind of happens...? but it might be just because the way uni tells story through arcade mode makes it feel. using sprites to tell the story like mbtl would've REALLLLY helped here, uni2 is already built off of mbtl's version of their engine lolol. nonetheless i am happy for strix. seems they kinda soft deconfirmed the idea of them not being playable since byakuya broke both their vessels so they can just be regular people again but WHO KNOWS ANYMORE since ogre is back anything can go at this point

a lot of my thoughts funnily enough aren't completely abt uni2 though. ive never been the biggest fan of byakuya and even now i'm pretty flatly neutral to him but brushing up on his chronicle mode before uni2 dropped man. i just feel bad for him. he deserves friends and something else to be around other than his sister and fragments of her. hes like only in junior high he should be making a school festival with people and enrolling in clubs. his mia status in uni2 just makes it worse. give him a break jesus christ

MERKAVA:

already a fan of merkava's void design but.........oh my god he's so pretty for no reason? what the fuck? they could've easily fumbled a human merkava and making him somehow less cooler and appealing than the obviously more interesting void design but i like human merk. still a bit inferior to typical merk though.

MIKA:

love and peace and happiness. mika so cute. not really much i have to say for her but i main her with enkidu so i didn't want to not mention her. she's my baby

WALDSTEIN: AND JUST LET HIM FUCKING DIE!!@?!@?>!@?> i mean its EXPECTED but what the fuck i was a waldstein shooter. do you know how many people actually LIKE WALDSTEIN. you can count it on one hand INCLUDING ME. i wanted more of himmmm out of everyone he deserved a slice of life ending. impactful nonetheless though. i am in fact a big fan of the oddly attractive (subjective) grandpa. ending cg is adorable but jesus adelheid is smaller than i expected and that's while being aware that she's gonna naturally look smaller beside wald.

LONDREKIA:

i do...not have a lot to say on londrekia's story to be honest except the ending was really fucking dorky in a cute way. really i just wanted this section so i can say hes so stupid and moe and i like him. i really warmed up to him over the course of seven years. i used to be so neutral towards his existence when not paired with merk but nowadays he's one of my favorites. i often do not like anime white boys but he is SO SO SO COMICALLY WHITE that it's charming. i think him becoming playable aided in that though because oh my god. oh my god. he's such a loser and i want to playfully tease him for it

uhh i think that's all my thoughts? oh wait yeah phonana mentioned. ok now im done. sorry for the 3 page long analysis as a uni fan its second nature to take their microscopic small implications and go crazy over the crumbs when it comes to the story. gameplay still looks peak as hell though would expect no less from fpan. excited to get the game soon :3

Monthly Muppet Madness: Survival Street Review: Brought to You by the Letter's F and C for Fuck Captalisim (Comission for WeirdKev27)

Hello all you happy people and welcome back to Monthly Muppets Madness, my look at all things muppety. And after last month's adventure with mean green mother's from outer space, we're back to more felty corners of the muppet globe with Surivial Street, a 4 issue mini series from 2022 by the writing team of James Asmus and Jim Fesante with art by Abbylay Kussainov.

Asmus is a longtime comic book writer whose work I have read before with his decent runs on Gambit, Quantum and Woody and All New Inhumans. He also co-wrote the second arc of Robert Kirkman's Thief of Theives. So while not someone I seek out, he's a solid writer.

As you can guess by the title and that awesome cover, Survival Street is a parody of Seasame Street, though heavily on the affectionte side: it's very clear from the writing Asmus really loves the show and it's goals of free education for children who might not have acess to it and teaching love and kindness are core to this book.

That said Survival Street is also over the top as hell. It's messages are as subtle as a brick to the head saying "Corproations Bad' and a lot of the book can come off as

Okay some are.. but most of them probably aren't going to listen to their bullshit being called out in the first place, let alone by muppets. The question is can this book ballance it's over the top satire with it's heart, fairly well thought out characters and comedy? Find out under the cut won't you?

We open with America: A Timeline. In 2025 in this timeline, Jury's out on ours, the Supreme Court voted to make Corporations able to run for public office. Naturally this backfired and soon corprations pulled their money out from other candidates and ran themselves, and by 2028 they've taken over the country, privitazed everything and in our proper oppening scene, invade Salutation Street, our Seasame Street expy and shut it down. It's also clear there's rampant anti-muppet xenophobia in this universe, something that will only grow worse as we cut to present day: 2031, in New Best America TM.

It's in this new corprate hellscape we meet our heroes who are traveling around america in an RV. Driving it is an expy of Gordon, Mr. Burton whose dealing with a checkpoint. As it turns out though roads are now privitazed and upon seeing a family hassled over this, our grover stand-in, Herbert decides to take a more hands on approach

This does save the people there.. but is quickly used as propoganda by the local fox news stand in. Because of a course a corporate hellscape still has fox news, every hellscape needs one or it's just not a hellscape. Their anchor is Irma, our ernie stand in, who spouts out the usual racist drivel but about muppets this time. I do like the touch of having the two headed monster be their right and left wing commentators.

We then ove to the a-plot: Junior, the president is auctoning off detained children of illegal immigrants to the highest bidder in florida, with our heroes sneaking in to stop this via the global warming flooded ocean outside.

I mean a bunch of rich assholes auctoning off children is both plausable and has likely actually happened, but it dosen't make that funny or entertaining. Junior himself is, from saying his assitant asking about his medication he stole from his daughter is a HIPPA violation to how over the top he is and it keeps things from being too GET IT GET IT CAPTALISIM BAD GET IT. It's enoguh to take me out but not enoguh to make me leave.

So our ABC team break in and we properly meet them all as they make their way through. And since the comic has really fun intro captions for each of them...

Their leader, Bert stand in and the one holding the brain cell

Kind to a fault and mostly a "master of disguise" because he's the only human they have.

Like Burton we've seen him before. Explosives expert with a short fuse. ANd god I love that gag: it's so damn dark and it should not work but it does.

Our Cookie Monster with traces of Zoey given the pigtails. I also thought Elmo but we'll meet our equilvent for him in isue 3. Kind, good at inflitration but struggling with staying clean.

Our big bird, a good strong boy whose basically big bird if he was a grown man and could also suplex you.

Their tech guy and oscar the grouch.

Our heroes begin their plan once they get it: THey found about this thanks to a fellow muppet calling for help, so now their inside they can excute the plan: Gurgle and their inside man will use card scanners that burton stole and rigged to steal all the money from the auction, explaning how they keep funded when public funding no longer exists. Hippy resuces the prisoners using his massive strength to free the kids and his kindness to help calmly guide them out, and Herbert.. nearly snaps and kills everyone and everything in his path after finding out these bastards are using the children for their organs. Thankfully Birdie is able to calm him down in one of my faviorite jokes of the mini

It's what makes this work: while the satire is about as subtle as a chainsaw through your front door wielded by a screaming goat man, the muppets in the thick of it.. still ACT like muppets on seasame street. They still have the same kindness and sensiblities.. it's just tempered into bloody action by being the only source of hope and freedom in a dystopian hellscape.

Birdie and Tony set up signal jammers so they can hyjack the procedings.. only to find out that Irma is here, gladly promoting this shit show like any republican. Birdie is naturally just the slightest bit livid her ex is promoting child organ farming but she soon has bigger issues.... desert is being served early.. and ice cream is present.

And with that Gurgle is exactly no days sober of ice cream and shit officallly hit the fan. On the bright side Shit is our word of the day. So at least there's that. Anyways our heroes are soon outgunned and out manned, with Birdie barely saving gurgle by tearing herself open and using her string to sew her up, but the two are soon cornered and Birdie does the whole save yourself i'll hold them back routine. Thankfully , Herbet dosen't listen well and when , as seen in the panels above, told not to go out loud.. he didn't listen. He rigged the place with explosives, blows up the wall holding out the water real good and floods the bitch. Our heroes valantly escape, but not before Hippy beats the every loving shit out of Junior, showing he may be nice but he has limits.

Birdie however makes a late exit as she and Irma have some words, with Birdie hyjacking her limo. So Birdie, needing some answers... asks irma a very important question

I love this page.. mostly for making Irma a more complex villian. She could easily jsut be "birdies very obvious ex who sold out"... but you see she's just someone who got broken by the fact that nothing they did mattered. She's still not a good person: she still sold out muppetkind for her own profit and is still bad.. but it's more intresting to hav ea reason why she ended up the sack of shit she is instead of just, as Birdie wondered, always having been like this.

Birdie isn't swayed and goes on with the rest of our heroes.

Issue 2. I love the structure of this series as the first three issues are all made so they can be read done in one for the most part. Ther'es a cliffhanger at the end of issue 3 but it's nice when a comic makes good use of the isdsue by issue format. Issue 4 ties it all together well, but it's still essentailly three connected stories that lead up to one big finish.

Anyways issue 2 begins with our heroes hiding in a church under a hail of gunfire: Burton and the RV are halfway across town, and it dosen't look good. We flash back to how they got there and find out WHERE they are: Hollow Point, a company town ran by the WRA, the NRA's legally distinct cousin. Yup this is a gun rights issue, with the town having become a conceal and carry paradise where people can just.. have gun duels to decide whatever and Charlton heston is naturally given an honrary statue.. and Clint Eastwood an expy in Cain Westwood.

The head of the WRA is present and naturally gives a gun to a baby.. and the satire works a BIT better this issue as frankly.. none of it's exagerated. The NRA GENUINELY want this, they genuinely talk about crying "lib tears". Clint Eastwood is an advocate for them. Their extremists probably would argue the right ot carry begins at conception. I"m not saying ALL gun owners or even nra members are this fucked, I have a friend who owns guns and keeps them in a safe, locked up where no child can get to it. But the NRA as an orginzation sure as hell is.

Our heroes try using this dueling strategy to call the WRA chairman's bluff.. but he turns it on them: since their basically challenging the law itself witht heir duel they've challenged the orginzation.. which means it's 5 muppets against a whole damn town armed to the teeth.

We then get a flashback to Herbert's childhood on M'Na N'Nam, part of the snufflpogaos islands. A muppet paradise.. until a shady buisness man shows up offering a partnership for a chemical they can find on the island.

I'm going to go ahead and cover all of this now for simplicties sake as the flashback's only two parts: Years later their leader.. has shown her true colors, fully selling out to ethe corpration and the mine as it's poinsing her people and end sup casuing an explosin.. and rather than help , the company pulls out, leaving the villiage to die in fire and Herbert forced to immigrate, barely scraping by thanks to racisim until he got the job on Salutation Street.. only to find out later his parents died on the island. It's a well done story too as horrible things like this happened all the time and without the hyper exagerated satire... it's something entirely real and entirley painful: a culture exploited and destroyed by greedy white assholery.

Back in the present the fight continues, as our heroes are held down. Thankfully Hippy and Gurgle make a distraction and do one of my faviorite manuvers: having the smaller characteer on the bigger characters shoulder. Mostly for this one scene from x-factor

Sadly Flint Westwood decides to join the party.. as does anamatronic charlton heston, so our heroes are soon on the backfoot... but not before Tony is able to complete his plan, hyjacking their cars and easily taking down the mob since, naturally their cars are also mad max murder mobiles. As for the head of the HRA himself.. well given he's sorta the lead this issue.. Herbet takes care of him personally.

He then challenges the man to a duel, though Birdie IS able to talk him down from shooting the man on live tv... but not from killing him as he shoots out the camera and impliclity finished the job offscreen.

But that leaves a vacum.. and Westwood is promoted to the job.. and given the job to hunt down our heroes. More on that later

So issue 3 introduces us to Milo, our Elmo expy. He's rich and like irma is working in the corprate hellscape. Unlike her though he's still in kids television , still talks to the others even if things are understandibly tense with most of them, and while reluctant to their request has a good reason for both taking the seemingly easier route and being reluctnat to help.

It's a scene I love a lot. Milo comes off at first like a smug asshole.. but then it's clear beneath that is someone who GENUINELY values what he's doing. It's a reminder of how important children's intertainment is... and how important it is that when you have the power to do something good and necessary, you do it, regardless of the risk.

Our heroes go to rescue the kids, who are fire fire fighters and make a good entrance enough, coming in in a garbage made recycled buggy, saving them.. but soon our party is left trecking through the wild fire. THey got in thanks to milo's friends, but it was one way. So while Gurgle finds an ice cream truck, the kids tell their tale: turns out in this dystopian hellhole future they outlawed abortion.... keep in mind this comic launched just two months after Roe V Wade was overturned, so the timing is eerie as hell. The kid they talk two's mother didn't want her born into this hellscape, got arrested for it and she got sold to corproations using her as a proxy for their crimes. The fact any of this sounds like it could become actual law at some point should spoeak to how horrifying it is. While this book isn't subtle, and it's a weakness.. it's strength is that Asmus goes just a TOUCH beyond what we have now after the first issue. The first issue is plausable, but a bit over the top. With the nra having a whole lawless western town or children being sold into slavery to work off corprate crimes... it's a lot more plausable given how fucked our legal system is and it makes it that much easier to buy.

Our heroes naturally wepp at this waking nightmare, so it's a good thing they get distracted.. the bad thing is that it's by Gurgle, trying to save her from more fire. Birdie gets horribly injured in the process and needs help NOW.

Things.. look bad as they hit a corprate checkpoint, by the same monsters that turned off the water the fire kids were using, and there's no hope of escape or out shooting them. This causes the team to break down playing the blame game.. which is bad enough.. until HIPPY of all people breaks.

This.. destroyed me. Up to this point Hippy had been the unbreakable optimis they needed.. but now .. we see that beneath his sunshine is a lot of regret, a lot of doing this because he had nothing else and feeling what thier doing.. simply isn't enough. But Mr. Burton's message is right.. and it's the messasge the book goes for: things are bad, they will probably get worse.. but we can't just give up and do nothing. As a wise vampire once said "If nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do". And to prove that point.. an old friend drops in to help

So the asholes are left to die, Milo implicitly adopts the kids having them play in his pool and Birdie wants to see them all.. only Gurgle's missing, having left in Milo's tesla. Because of course he has a tesla. Gurgle's gone.. and she's gone to the enemy

I was nervous going into this one when I first read it. The fact is this book while optimistic is still fairly dark so while I felt our heroes MIGHT win, they could just as easily loose or barely get away.

They could... but instead we get something way better.

Though to start things aren't looking great: Rufus, head of F News, is talking to a bunch of other corprate overlords including Elon Musk, suprising no one. THeir not happy that his propoganda machine isn't keeping the puppets from having an impact: Junior is facing public backlash for his child selling, the babies carrying firearms bill has been blocked.. this needs to stop. So the network cranks up i'ts proogranda, with anti-muppet racisim rising and a a puppet child attacked by some other kids. When one human girl tries to help him she gets maced.. thankfully

Things still aren't great: Birdie's recovering and Faux News trots out Gurgle.. and somehow makes a valid point, making them somehow have a point abovfe the actual fox news: apparently Gurgle used to be called "Sundae Fiend". While she says "it was a diffrent time" being remidned of it clearly bothers her.. while Rufus wants more answers: where. are. your friends.

And it seems he got them as we see a heavily armed WRA troops, with junior and westwood along for the ride and livestreaming the whole debalce. Turns out the Muppets main hq is a Salutation Station theme park. Not disneyland as Senator Disney does not want to be associated iwth muppet terrorists... again. That was their joke by the way, great stuff. Also means we might meet kermit and friends counterparts if this ever gets a sequel.

What follows.. is one of the most awesome cilmaxes to an arc i've seen in a comic. Turns out... our heroes were ready for them: they aren't the ones trapped... the WRA are. Not only that for once it's entirely legal: since Salutation Street is it' sown corpration, the park is soverign terriotiry and they entered illegally. So after all their racist, anti-immigraint retoric.. their the ones who are the actual invaders.. and are soon wiped out with rides, from a cyclotron type thing spinning some to oblivion.

To the recyling troll melting a bunch of mooks with acid and recyling Charlton Hestron into scrao abd cumilating in a one on one brawl between Bernie and Westwood which ends with Bernie killing the motherfucker via rollercoaster

The moment after it is easily my faviorite of the whole book though, with Bernie confronting the mooks left

It's a reminder that while Bernie is the quickest to kill among them, easily.. he's still a kind, good person. Just one who will cap your ass when necessary.

I fucking love this issue for the setup: you EXPECT it to be our heroes darkest hour and them to barely make it out or Gurgle to at least still be a traitor.. instead? It was a plan the whole time: Gurgle finally kicked her addiction after last issue, our heroes easily take out their enemies with the home field advantage and to cap it off, we get one hell of a chekovs gun: earlier we saw mascot suits... so Birdie sends junior out, his mouth taped up in one with the recording to talk. THey shoot him down thinking hie's hippie.. and thus the presiden't sson whose also the president I guess is dead, everyone involved int he raid is entirley to blame and our heroes just got free publiclity showing THIER not the bad guys here. We wrap up as Irma flees to her dressing room... only to find a letter from birdie

And that's survivial street. It's heavy handed.. but damn if it isn't good. The jokes present land, the action is beautifully drawn and the characters are compelling. It takes what COULD'VE been a lazy joke premise, and fills it with heart and character, deconstructing PARTS of seasame street.. while at the same time remaining true to it's spirit. It's out in trade from darkhorse if your intrested, I HIGHLY recommend picking it up. And hopefully we'll see more of it again some day. But for now, we got something specil here and i"m glad I got to share it with you all.

Okay, I'm curious- you mentioned playing a "felix expy" for a ttrpg. Can you tell us more about him? Like is he just basically felix with a name change, or did you make any other changes? And uh, yeah... *looks at him* I would say he's different in more ways than just a name change! .w.; Mostly in design though- his personality is largely the same, and i purposefully added some details that are references to older, pre-bag Felix. (The game takes place in an alternate universe timeline of the 40's, and Felix didn't get his magic bag until the 50's after all!)

Basically- and full credit where it's due- the design i had in mind for him took a lot of inspo from this drawing by JinJangJin on twitter, which is in turn based on this idea by Danny8bit. Seemed like a fun starting point to go with for a short game, though I deffo ended up thinking too hard about it and putting my own spin on the character and worldbuilding and even the genre a bit, because I can't help myself. XD ;

I stg, I always do this with ttrpg characters- 'oh, this is only a short 1-3 session game, i'll just throw together something quick based on something cool or funny i saw once and surely never think about it again,' I lied.

Anyway i now have an entire cache of info about this specific-ass version of Felix the Cat in my brain now that will probably never see the light of day in-game because the game is literally not built for delving too deep into backstories or character details!

I have many opinions on TWW and some of them are fairly unpopular so uhhhh here goes.

I'll get the biggest one out of the way first: for when it happened, I actually don't find the shuttle leak storyline out of character for Toby, nor do I hate it. If it had happened back in season 4, sure, and I'm mad at the post-Sorkin writing team for their slow destruction of Toby's character, but by end of s6, start of s7, it's not out of character for him. Could it have been better executed? Sure. But where he is as a character, unfortunately, it doesn't feel supremely terrible to me.

Second, the best Donna is season 1 Donna. A bit of an audience surrogate sometimes but in a not-overly-clumsy way, funny and spunky and just a bit quirky... and her dynamic with Josh is SO fun in season 1. I'm almost through s1 in my rewatch and I'd genuinely forgotten how much I enjoyed Donna. I feel like she really got flattened out once they really committed to the will they/won't they with Josh, and then was worse because of the whole season 6/7 disaster (that was a mess!), PLUS they had her make some very dumb decisions to advance the plot that did not feel realistic (the dumb shit with Cliff Calley, the accidentally voting for Ritchie).

I know season 5 was the weakest season overall, BUT season 4 was the weakest Sorkin season. I'm not saying season 4 needed to be all about re-election, but I feel like there was a better balance to strike between the "rush through all the election stuff by episode 8-ish" and "stretch it out into a season and a half long affair" (as in 6-7). It also just, despite everything it took to get to this point, felt INCREDIBLY rushed and unsatisfying. it didn't feel like there were any stakes! I wanted to see the whole debate, I wanted to see a genuine election night with stakes, dammit! And I think, much as I love Will, that dedicating so much time to THAT storyline was part of the problem. This also wasn't helped by the fact that Ritchie was a caricature and a Bush expy which worked when the episodes were airing but just makes him look cartoonish and one-dimensional now. Like Arnie Vinick may be a unicorn of a Republican and impossible to believe in now, but at least he's a person and not a cardboard cutout. Anyway! It feels like for all the build-up to the difficulty of getting re-elected post-MS scandal, it was just. they won, shuffle them offscreen again.

Okay, fuck, this is getting long.

I don't MIND Annabeth but I find the whole Leo-Annabeth flirtation thing REALLY weird and honestly out of left field. That scene in the elevator where she says they shouldn't be spending too much time together 'because of the tension', I was RIGHT THERE with Leo like 'what tension?' Like I'm sorry, I just don't see it!

Okay a few more bullet-point gripes just because

I got used to it eventually but I'm still not a fan that CJ got promoted to COS. Like yeah by the end she did a damn good job and she has one of the best relationships with Jed, but c'mon. she loved being press secretary, and she was a damn good one.

CJ's dark hair in season 7 is not a good look on her, I'm sorry CJ my love, but it doesn't look good. The only non-canon part of the flashfoward is that she definitely does NOT still have that hair.

Amy was fun when she first appeared, but in seasons 6 and 7 her character definitely got worse.

For the most part, I actually wanted less election plot in season 7 and more focus on the west wing (and I say this as loving both Matt and Arnie!)

Gina Toscano/CJ is a great ship also. I rewatched "six meetings before lunch" last night and remembered that I ship them.

Episode specific: the B-plot of Requiem makes absolutely no sense to me and I've watched the episode about 6 or 7 times now (the whole 'meddling in the speaker race' plot).

And finally: Danny should've been in every single season, as a regularly recurring character. I know that Tim Busfield was busy with other commitments but Mr. Busfield, I'm begging you.

As you all may know from my master list, I have watched Object Trek.

The show was canceled after three episodes, but the creator announced season 2. I hope the best for this show, but before it comes out, there are two characters that I feel have a lot of potential, and wanna talk about them.

First character: Water Balloon

Anyone who has seen this show has noticed that he seemed… familiar. He has one eye, he’s small enough to fit into other people’s hands, he’s smarter than the other contestants (or at least his team), and his voice… he’s Plankton. Water Balloon is an expy of Plankton. IDK if it was intended or not.

Problem is, that’s where the similarities end. He’s not villainous, and he’s not funny. He’s just… a plain nice guy, pretty much like almost everyone else on this show. Which is a shame, because a Plankton expy should be one of the best parts, if not the best part of your show, should you include one.

Which, to an extent, he is. As far as I can tell he is the fan favorite, at least among his team.

Second Character: Loudspeaker

At the beginning of the first episode, Megaphone revealed that he was in a competition with Loudspeaker, his sister. His Object Trek vs her Object Odyssey, whoever got all of their contestants onto the island known as Objectoo first got to have their object show continue while the other show got canceled.

The show was canceled after only three episodes, before we got anywhere near Objectoo and especially before we got to meet Loudspeaker and her contestants. But it’s safe to say that Loudspeaker was going to lose and have her show canceled.

A story line that I think would be really fun, if it ends up in season 2:

Loudspeaker and her contestants lose the race and her show gets canceled.

Loudspeaker bitterly watches an episode of Object Trek, she watches Water Balloon’s performance and sees how good he is with technology and decides that she could use him to get her back on TV.

For that to make sense, Water Balloon would need to be characterized more like Plankton.

And no, being mean wouldn’t have gotten him eliminated. He’s one of the team captains. At the end of the first episode it was revealed that one of Megaphone’s rules was that the team captains would be immune from elimination every episode until they reached Objectoo.

At the very least, Loudspeaker and Water Balloon would have been able to meet each other, and she would have been able to watch him long enough to want his help.

Loudspeaker contacts Water Balloon, it doesn’t matter if he’s eliminated at the point or not, offers him more money than he would have gotten from winning Object Trek, and a promotion to co-host.

Changing his character is especially important here, because in episode three he was given a prize for getting the most likes on his team. The prize? $1,625,739.84, and his reaction? “Uh, okay?”, and then later in the episode he just gives away all that money to buy a blueprint for his team without a second thought, or first thought for that matter. XD

Water Balloon agrees, and they both start scheming.

I imagine that if season 2 switched to contestant voting, Water Balloon would lay low and pretend to be a good person, then when no one is around, he would sneak around Megaphone’s office, sabotage the challenges and Megaphone’s tech, and update Loudspeaker on his work.

If season 2 stuck with viewer voting, Water Balloon would be characterized as being openly a jackass, and if he was eliminated, he could break out of the Big Box, but in a way where only he could escape, such as cutting a hole that’s only big enough for him to get through. And only after he escapes does Loudspeaker contact him.

Loudspeaker would have Water Balloon live at her house/office. Maybe she could make a tiny bed.

Also Loudspeaker should be more like Karen, but like, if Karen was the mastermind instead of Plankton. And her and Water Balloon’s dynamic could be similar to Plankton and Karen’s dynamic.

The rest of the season would have the plotline of the both of them coming up with and attempting various strategies of getting Megaphone off the show and replacing him with Loudspeaker. These methods include but are not limited to:

Making Megaphone look like an incompetent shit to get his ass fired.

Ruin Megaphone’s reputation to get his ass fired.

Sabotage the challenges, so Megaphone gets so frustrated that he quits.

This would all come to head by the finale. I don’t know how but it would.

So there’s a chance that this idea was planned by the creator for the very beginning anyways. But I’m not sure because Water Balloon was not characterized in a way that would seem that he would become antagonistic, and we didn’t get to meet Loudspeaker in the show.

I just really want Water Balloon and Loudspeaker to have a villain arc and be a power couple together. Either platonically, or romantically. I see the potential in them together .🤭

*you're sitting across from me at the bar and I'm 5 drinks in and rambling* OK BUT you know what has been haunting my brain? Just how fucking LESBIAN CODED cyclonus, tailgate, and whirl are.

First of all, ALL of their holoforms are WOMEN. I am fascinated by this. You see, these are giant robots that by all means are meant to be interpreted as men. AND YET. THE QUEER IDENTITY IS THERE IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. Again, gender with these robots is so fun.

The holoforms are just a way to give the transformers human forms, and like, mostly they aren't super relevant/used seriously as a 1:1 human version of them- they're used here and there in clever ways but they are never the focus. And that's okay i don't mind. BUT I AM OBSESSED with the particular choice to give THIS trio their forms.

For starters, cyclonus and tailgate are gay for each other. Love wins, etc etc. But even though i could see why normie people could interpret tailgate as a girl (his "feminine traits" in heavy quotes just being how Sensitive and Nice he is), i would have never expected Cyclonus to be given the Lady Treatment in canon.

And yet it's such a strike of genius. I am obsessed with her. A goth victorian lady! Cyclonus being a goth victorian lady is so good in so many levels. Tailgate gets a new version of his holoform too and it's a petite girl. Cute enough but the only important detail here is that also she's a #Girl. Lesbian win! The goth victorian lady is in love with a cute femme.

ANYWAY- THEN THERE'S WHIRL. This loose cannon who's a mean bastard that takes incredible joy in being violent takes the form of a jinx from lol expy with an eyepatch. The first version is very cute and childish and the second version is just the grown up version of that (with great eyebrows i must add). And like. Hello? For some reason the "crazy mean badass" character being A Girl is a surprising choice to me.

Mostly because i am used to characters like Cyclonus and Whirl not being """emasculated""" in anyway by the narrative (they're Big Powerful Dangerous Men! Isn't that the Power Fantasy?)

But Cyclonus is gay, so maybe that gives him a Girl Free Pass (he gets removed from the Power Fantasy in the eyes of normies)

But WHIRL??? WHIRL is the most fascinating to me. He's an ASSHOLE. He tries very hard to come off as an ASSHOLE because that's his trauma response. HE'S GOOD AT BEING A KILLING MACHINE. And he's funny as hell!! My point is, Whirl is so fucking COOL. Male readers would loveeee to identify themselves with him. And yet, his human form is a Manic Pixie Dream Girl With Guns.

Like, sure, i get it, i guess the average male comic reader wouldn't mind if they could Waifu-fy their favorite guy. But would that in their minds be "emasculating"? Impossible to tell what the consensus is abour Re: Whirl being A Girl.

Anyway.

Now the important topic of how This makes this trio The Most Lesbian Coded Robots Of All Time.

With the information given, we already have Cyclonus and Tailgate being gay and in love. Since in general these robots have no real concept of Gender, you might as well claim they're He/Him Masc Lesbians and you'd be extremely right.

But also there's Cyclonus and Whirl and their extremely special friendship/relationship. Whirl inserts himself in Cyclonus life first as an enemy and later on as his STRONGEST emotional support. Incredibly fascinating to me. And like, we have established already that THEY'RE BOTH WOMEN in their holoforms so it's just really easy to picture them as Girl Besties Bonded By Trauma.

I keep trying to like, justify my view of these robots as Lesbians but like. I know it's just my interpretation but also I Am Right!

But the true meat of the Issue is that I am completely in love with this idea because by making these seemingly Male Presenting Robots into women, suddenly they're so so so endearing to me, more than anything.

Cyclonus is an extremely repressed and emotionally constipated character. He could NOTTTT confess his feelings directly to Tailgate at all EVEN THOUGH he was willing to die and kill the entire universe just to keep him safe. He loved that little bot with all of his heart and HE KNEW IT, TAILGATE KNEW IT, THE ENTIRE SHIP KNEW IT and yet he could not bring himself to say I Love You until it was too late.

You could not be surprised by me saying how this, too, is Yuri. It's the deep repression of feelings for me. Such a lesbian experience (which, yes, it is in general a queer experience, but remember we're talking about WOMEN here). Which Cyclonus as a man and being like this? Good, fantastic, i still love it. But Cyclonus as a woman and BEING like this??? Delicious, showstopping, spectacular- SUDDENLY SHE IS EVERYTHING TO ME.

Now, Tailgate, our favorite little guy of all time. There's so many things to be said about him. He starts off as the only guy in the entire world to have no trauma from the war because he just missed it entirely. So he starts off with the Sweetest Attitude because he is the only one that can still afford to be Sweet and Naive naturally. But ALSO. He is a straight up self aggrandizing LIAR. Tailgate is very insecure! He makes up these stories about him being a recognized hero, about being a certified bomb disposal expert, about being destined to be in the Ark and just missing it by a little chance- but truly he's just terrified of everyone knowing how he's not special at all. How he hasn't done anything with his life.

It is perhaps a shallow reading, but all of these traits make it so easy to picture him as a struggling fail woman. Naivete, kindness, Low Self Esteem, you got yourself a combo of how people usually write Nice Girls. Especially with how anxious tailgate can be sometimes! He was just born to be a Cute Moe Fail Girl for anyone to fall in love with.

And *drum roll* WHIRL. First of all, I think what truly does it for me about Whirl but as a Woman is just that he is a marvelous combination of traumas and HORRIBLE coping mechanisms. He is both victim and perpetrator of Violence. The system fucked him up and he went ahead and served the system to Start The Goddamn War by Abusing His Power. And he LOATHES himself for it. He believes himself a monster and then goes "well you better believe i am the best Monster there ever WAS" to take control of his life in the only way the War ever let him.

Ngl fam, if anything, the way Whirl's trauma is so intertwined with his Empurata aka His Body Issues- he's just a very Trans Character to Me. (And, COMING FROM AN ENBY PERSON MIND YOU, it is very hard not to enjoy making an Attack Helicopter joke about Whirl and his gender because. Well. He literally is one.)

It's about his bodily autonomy being stripped from him and then him deciding to have his rage about it fuel him. Whirl as a woman is genius truly. Whirl has made himself BY CHOICE a killing machine. It's hard not to also apply that to his gender. He also decided to embrace his female holoform, he even enjoys braiding her hair. She is a wolverine woman. A woman that bites and spits and has rabies. A woman with anger seated deep within her ribs and a sadness buried even deeper. (And as a bonus, she also seems to have a Maternal instinct.) She's also someone that saw Cyclonus and Tailgate being deeply in love and said "scoot over, i want me some of that" and made herself a third wheel in between two people that also grew to love her very much.

It's just.

Do you see where i am coming from!!! These 3 are women and lesbians and in love! They're in a fun complicated relationship with each other in which they all have their issues but one way or another they all gravitate towards each other because they CARE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER.

Just...!!! Ough!!!!! They're complex and interpreting them as women scratches such a good urge in my brain to have women i can relate to!!! That i can find Real in their complexity!!!!! It feels silly to me to be so passionate about The Robots Made To Sell Toys Being Lesbians but also... cmon!!!!! Cmon!!!!!!!!

It comes entirely from my nonbinary point of view of course, but this Gender Play of "very male presenting Robots that have no concept of gender and also are Gay being interpreted in canon as Women in their alternative form" is JUST CATNIP TO ME.

ohhh so many really, lemme think who's a good one [rifles through catalog] ..... man i haven't really talked about rise & reign much since i made this new account huh. okay kids let's talk about my dumb stupid son axilus :)

he's actually my very first mass effect oc and the reason i got into it!! my partner @lightspeedpowerpunk started playing m.e. alllll the way back in senior year of high school (2014!!!) and texted me about the m.e. au he was thinking of for some of our existing ocs, and asked me to look up turians and give him some design ideas for a turian expy of one of our original verse characters, axel madsen, and while i was doing that i just kinda... fell in love with the species and wanted to play the games, and then eli published the first chapter of an oc fic featuring axilus and his (eventual) quarian boyfriend thie'haasn, and now here we are 8 years later,

he's also going to appear in in the land of giants in a couple story arcs, can't wait to force everyone to see my actual favorite child, sorry matteo

axilus is a big boy, and a sweetheart, but not really a gentle giant; he's very much large and in charge, and isn't afraid to use both his immense strength and biotics to get rid of people annoying him, lmfao. his biotics manifested late, when he was 16. he'd been latent until then, until an accident during what was supposed to be his squad's last training mission activated them (read: thie detonated his own biotics in ax's arms to save them from incoming batarians) and sent everything a little loopy. he was already not doing hyper-amazing in the military, and his commanding officer saw nothing but misery in his future if he was shoved into the cabals, so she pushed him out to go adventuring with thie instead before the transfer could be completed.

considering ax's dad aephis and grandfather octyrus are both high-ranking officers in the army and navy respectively, this uh.... didn't go over well :D

after a bunch of other events that are detailed in mine and eli's series rise & reign that we swear we're planning to rewrite soon don't read it god the 2014 humor and "these authors need therapy actually" jumps RIGHT out, he and thie end up becoming captains of their own pirate-slash-mercenary crew, favored activity being hunting slavers for fun and profit. then All That Shit happens in 2186 [reaper war or cerberus trying to start galactic war, depending on canon] and they decide to retire, passing the ship on to their longtime friend raik gemeng and settling on palaven in ax's mom's family home in zouklos [tropical jungle + farmland nation on the southern continent] with their big gaggle of a family: along with thie he also marries his childhood best friend freiya and has a son with her, they have two asari children fathered by one of them each and mothered by a couple different asari friends, they adopt some war orphans who latched onto them, it's a full house.

all the while during their travels, axilus also works on steadily getting his doctorate in turian history, specializing in pre-spaceflight palavenian history and a sprinkling of cultural anthropology. once they retire, he gets a teaching job with the university he was studying with. freiya is an army officer and thie ends up working with c-sec, so axilus is the one home with the kids a lot, and if his parents or grandparents aren't available to take care of them while he's off teaching, they'll sometimes come in to class with him and steal the show.

his father aephis is a spec ops officer with the army, and his mom sephira is an astronautical engineer with TEC specializing in mass effect propulsion drives. she was even the project lead for the tantalus drive core project! he has an older brother, tollak, who's autistic and goes into law and later politics, eventually becoming the new councilor once sparatus retires after the war and the thessian beacon conspiracy have been mopped up.

when thie first wakes up after ax and his squad saved him, he meets axilus properly for the first time... and mistakes him for councilor sparatus, whom ax looks nothing like, because thie, a quarian, can't tell turian markings apart properly and also we hc quarians have reduced color vision so thie straight up cannot tell that the two are different colors. this is actually a meta joke, as when i was helping design ax, again with zero knowledge of who any of these characters were, i picked sparky's picture of the wiki and said "here, like this" for the color. the end result was more maroon than sparky's true brown, but eli threw that in the fic as a wink-wink-nudge-nudge to my design notes, and now we just. hang onto it, for comedy reasons. it is in fact funnier the less alike they actually look, thie's just colorblind.

..... and then, after that joke was already written and published, we went "haha hey what if" and then decided sparky and ax are, in fact, related. they're first cousins once removed. axilus's father aephis is ierian sparatus's cousin, their mothers corinn and meana are sisters, ax's great-grandma and sparky's grandma are the very same person, the one and only calvetana sparatus. hilariously, i probably never would have started really considering sparky as a character if he didn't have that one minor joking connection to my big dumb son. so, really, everything about my work to date with the sparatus clan and "the council does have a good reason to not believe you actually" defense is axilus's fault.

he's a sweetheart and usually the level head to thie's impulsivity, and honestly a lot smarter than he gives himself credit for. he's just not good at math! it's fine! he has computers to do it for him! his mommy is an engineer and he thinks he's dumb cause he doesn't understand what a derivative is, but she doesn't know how he remembers specific dates and years in history and why they're significant so it's fair. sephira loves and supports her sons and is secretly very happy when ax retires from piracy and comes back to palaven, she doesn't want her babies in danger even if they ARE absolute fucking tanks of drakes.

his favorite color is red, even if tragically it doesn't look great on him as a main color thanks to his being maroon, and i haven't put a lot of work into prehistoric palavenian wildlife (the megafauna in tiirtias technically count but they're very much still alive, lol) but i think he'd go apeshit for sabretooth cats, because they look very similar to how i imagine shatha!! and he'd think it's super cool how animals from completely different parts of the galaxy can still evolve roughly the same way, and then the theorizing on why terran sabretooth cats went extinct while the palavenian shatha variants survived would begin,

Cashew – Okay, I’ll openly admit Cashew’s my favourite of the phone flings! And nobody, not even the creators themselves, will ever convince me this good, bookish boy is not studying Library Sciences to become a librarian! Which is why Librarian by My Morning Jacket is the song I really associate with him.

Boss – I can’t place quite why because by all extents and purposes, his phone fling was the silliest out of all of them, but Boss seems like a really, really stressed guy. Like the kind of guy who is a workaholic and has indigestion from chronic stress but can’t let go of any of it really and can’t seem to ask for help even though it’s obvious he needs it. When I was thinking of songs for him, even though it initially doesn’t seem like it should fit, Help! by The Beatles really kept popping back into my head and that’s the one I decided to go with!

Felix – Felix is the quintessential bad boy that your parents would hate but you just can’t stay away from. Is it any wonder I chose Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood for him?

Reece – As with a lot of the others on the list, gotta pay homage to the obvious inspiration while also trying to fit the character. Couldn’t resist and definitely had to go with the upbeat, energetic, and then strangely mysterious, seductive, and almost dangerous Boom Town Suite from the Doctor Who soundtrack!

Ace – My second favourite baseball boy! This man just…yum, yum, he looks good with that bat in his hand and he’s just got this bright, welcoming demeanor! Is there any doubt I think of the good, old classic Take Me Out to the Ball Game?

Ferris – My poor, poor Ferris. This boy needs a cup of coffee, some Advil, and more than a few days off! He’s definitely stressed out, burning the candle at both ends, and so overworked. He can definitely sympathize with and deeply connects to Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5!

Poe – So, to reference a chat between Poe and Marshmallow, and because, let’s be honest, this little emo boy absolutely adores Marilyn Manson, I had to use Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson. Also, fun fact about the writer but this is one of the few songs where I love the cover version more than the original!

Logan – He’d hate it. This song actually, in my headcanon, makes him irrationally angry any time someone so much as hums it. He takes firefighting so seriously, after all. But I definitely think of Burning Down the House by Talking Heads every time Logan shows up on my screen!

Finn – Again, playing into obvious associations and inspirations, but it’s always Song of Storms from Zelda for the cutest Link expy! That and this is a solid song and always pretty enjoyable…nothing amazing, honestly, but solid and that’s about my thoughts on Finn. Oh, and if I remember correctly, can’t you actually make him play this song or something really similar?

Leo – The Cyborg Fights from the One Punch Man Soundtrack, of course! Aside from the obvious Genos inspiration, Leo is a cyborg…and he fights. Pretty damn explanatory, haha!

Seth – Stirling is a devil…literally. That’s what he is, he’s canonically from hell but honestly, a pretty stand up guy. Charming, slightly manipulative, not much in the way of morals, but overall still a damn good guy! I think Sympathy for the Devil from The Rolling Stones definitely sums Seth up pretty nicely (saying this without fully getting him levelled up so I might be proven wrong!)

Jaxon – Going with the very natural, obviously Australian vibes here. This is upbeat enough, has got a sense of adventure to it while still hinting at some melancholic touches so I had to go with Dabo’s Tales of Goapan for Handpan and Didgeridoo! Jaxon is an outdoorsman, an Aussie, and with the fact he’s mourning some things, I do feel this is such a great fit for him.

Drake – Okay, but Drake is at a magic school where the uniforms are very Hogwarts-esque (not to mention the school is actually named Snogwarts). He needs to practice magic, and he’s got this thing with a figure called He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Referenced? You’re damn right I can’t help but use a Harry Potter song! In this case, I thought The Dueling Club from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets soundtrack was really the right fit for Drake!

Theo – Theo’s this fun, happy, charismatic gamer boy who’s just super easy to talk to. Gaming is something he’s really into, so I associate him strongly with video game remixes, but particularly the Animal Crossing Title Screen Synthwave Remix!

Basil – Again, playing to theming here. Basil looks a lot like Sherlock Holmes and even has you solve a mystery in his chat with you. He’s a master detective, with sharp analytical skills and keen observational skills. I can’t help but fall into the trap of thinking Sherlock for him, so the song I strongly associate with him is Spark’s Sherlock Holmes!

Fabian – Ariel ain’t got nothing on Fabian! Arrogant and confident that everything under water is so much better than on land, I can’t help but sing the opening notes to Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid soundtrack.

Nico – Nico loves music, especially music you can dance to. A DJ by trade, I definitely think any song that suits him has to be something you could find him playing in the club. I can’t explain exactly why but dubstep is definitely something I associate strongly with the character so that was the direction I went in. Flux Pavilion’s Bass Cannon is the one I settled on – it’s just impossible not to move to!

Mikey – Mikey’s whole shtick is food, and I just couldn’t resist – it’s definitely Weird Al’s Eat It for me!

Alfie Alfalfa – Given the obvious inspiration for the character, the catchy, energetic beat of the song, and how much I think Alfie would love the song, I went with Driving with the Top Down from the Iron Man soundtrack!

Sascha Ton van Twilhaar – Given his princely nature and his clothing and theming, it definitely had to be something with a sort of Persian theming. It had to be slow and sensual and charming so I kind of am heavily leaning towards Babak Afshar’s Ghesseh Dou Mahi for Sascha!

Sven – It’s the Sonic the Hedgehog theme, in particular the Sonic X theme, and we all know why!

Cole – Cole is yandere to the highest degree. He’s more than a little unhinged and so fixated on Marshmallow. It’s confirmed in game he stalks Marshmallow and everyone around them and I definitely have to go with Every Breath You Take by The Police, even if it is super obvious!

But even 2 years later, I kind of disagree.

Lilina has no relevance to the plot, can die instead of retreating like Elphin would and as for Ositia, while it has been a while since I played FE6, Lycia is still a league, Ositia is the most important part of this league, but with Hector dead, the league's representative is Roy- who goes on to negotiate with Etruria and is involved with Guinivere, not Ositia or Lilina.

It's like saying Innes is the Lord because Frelia is still standing while Renais was destroyed in their alliance.

Roy is the one who receives the fire emblem and unlocks the binding blade, Roy is the one who leads the army and challenges Zephiel's philosophy, Jahn's too and ultimately rescues Idunn.

I'd say Lilina is as important as Fe5's Nanna (who is also the only one who can recruit Homer, a very good unit in Fe5 !) with the added bonus that Nanna's death factors in Leif's ending, while Roy can end up with whoever he wants. Also Leif's dad died, he has no blue hair and yet is still the lord of his game lol

Just like Marth before him (fe1/11), Roy doesn't become the king of the most powerful nation on the continent, they both return home while a trusted ally (well about that...) runs the "most important" country.

Fun fact, apparently back then some people used to call FE6 a FE1 expy !

Tbh while I think Lilina was intended as a canon (?) love interest and childhood friend. Kuddos to FE6 to make her inherit her dad's land and ultimately, uh, unite an alliance in a kingdom-with no opposition I'll guess- but while a novelty, that endgame isn't what makes her a lord-like character, especially in this game where the main plot is centered on something else.

That's why I didn't have the same annoyed reaction at L!Fa or A!Idunn, but I am still firmly convinced Lilina's popularity is in majority due to Hector's.

okay since i finally beat side order half a year late in the span of a day, here is my personal thoughts on it, and what i liked vs what i didnt like:

it was. okay. but nowhere near as good as octo expansion. my main problem is that i feel like they didnt do enough with it. like the story is so minimal. it's like…. that's it?

i was hoping they would go more into eight's history and trauma and all that. and they did reference that a little bit, but only ever in hints. but then again i havent beaten the post-game yet so i could be wrong

also i kept hearing people talking about how hard it was, but for me personally it didnt feel nearly as hard as octo expansion but maybe thats just because ive been playing splatoon for a long time so i've gotten better at the game since i played octo expansion

i did love the visuals though. so pretty. and ngl one of my fave parts of the game was asynchronous rondo. because it seems that that boss is supposed to represent tartar. and also its design and song that plays during it was SO fucking cool

i just think the game has a great concept, but the story did not deliver. also the gameplay is too repetitive after a while. maybe im just biased and have too high expectations though because octo expansion is my favorite game of all time (yes im counting it as its own standalone game because it basically is)

at least this made me appreciate splatoon 3's main campaign better. because at least that one had fun story, lore, and banter, even if the ending and villain being a blatant octo expansion ripoff was disappointing

what i liked about the game: -the visuals -the concept -the designs of the enemies and bosses (especially asynchronous rondo; i love the callbacks to tartar in its design. it feels like the closest we're getting in the game to addressing 8's trauma) -def1sh finally appearing in the games wahoo -pearldrone is so cute -pearl and marina flirting lol -is fun the first few tries, before it starts to get boring and repetitive

what i disliked about the game: -poor writing, not enough story -it just feels so… hollow. there isn't the emotional investment in it that was present in octo expansion -wished it delved more into 8's and marina's psychology instead of only doing that in hints and implications -while there is some funny and unique dialougue like in octo expansion, it feels like there isn't that much. i kinda ended up skipping through most conversations because they were pretty bland, and weren't nearly as entertaining as the banter in octo expansion -it kinds gets really repetitive and boring after a while, especially compared to octo expansion where every level is super different. it needs more level variety and types of objectives imo -the ones where you gotta kill all those sunfish things are WAY too easy. all you need to do is speedrun getting enough points for a special and then you can just one-shot them all lol -i wish there were more bosses, because going against the same ones over and over gets tedious really quickly -why isn't there an infinite mode? i want to challenge myself to see how high a floor i can get :{ -wish it went more into dedf1sh, because it feels like they're just kinda. there. doing nothing. for the entire story. kinda wasted potential. you could remove them from the game and nothing would change -when will tartar (my fave character) return from the war it's one of my fave villains of all time oughhh.. the closest we got was asynchronous rondo. and also the main villain which is yet again an obvious tartar expy

Reusing the same method and joke over and over just to hammer in the point that you think it's stupid is a stupid idea to have. So…this is the gimmick? You are going to just repeat the very first one over and over again? That doesn't sound terribly original to me, that just seems like the method that bad parody movies like 'isn't this joke originally and clever? Look it's Thor only he's overweight and he farts a lot, we're going to have Thor doing the same fart gag over and over until you think it's funny' or 'Well we're going to have Wolverine give the middle finger to someone with his claws, because there's no way that has ever been done in the X Men movies, we're going to have do that because that is original and clever.' The humor of the Daloli-verse is very much the online equivalent of Seltzerberg's spoof movies. Look guys, as a comedian myself I can relate to how awfully difficult it must be to think of new material, there are nights where I cannot think of a joke or even a good topic to rant about, but you know…I practice and practice, and so should you. Maybe try branching out a little, try a different joke. Because clearly re-doing the same joke only switching out the subject isn't funny.

Yes, Nathan likes Megamind. Is turning your Megamind expy into Jack Nicholson in Wolf supposed to be referencing something? Is giving your obvious Christine knockoff cartoon eyes and angry eyebrows supposed to be referencing something? I don't see the humor. You just reuse the same 'make fun of his OCs' schtick over and over and it's never different apart from the character, it's repetitive and unoriginal. 'Oh look, it's that meme guy that sings Chocolate Rain and he is singing a seduction song.' So..what's the joke? What is the damn joke. You know Key and Peele's bit about Ray Parker Jr was funny because it was about how Ray Parker Jr is known for one song yet all the songs he sings in the skit sound exactly like Ghostbusters, I mean if the joke you're trying to make is that 'Oh Tay Zonday made Chocolate Rain but what if he tried to do different song styles but the song sounded a bit like Chocolate Rain each time?' then yeah i'd buy it. I mean if you did a parody of nature gone wrong movies and then put in Godzilla for no reason other than…'Well Jurassic Park has scaly creatures in it, Godzilla is a giant scaly monster, so the joke writes itself', i'd be questioning you. I mean Godzilla is not what I think of it when it comes to movies about mutant/killer animals. If this was supposed to be a Jurassic Park parody you also missed the mark because Godzilla is not a dinosaur. You can't just claim your fake werecreatures are supposed to do anything other than mock Nathan for his OCs when half of them are unoriginal.

They couldn't even get someone of my body type and gender to play the character, they just cast that overweight model to play both characters, and for pete's sake they don't even bother to change her hairstyle, she has the same hair-style as both characters except she's wearing a red wig to look like Andria (one of Mel's friends). I have seen productions from Full Moon and Troma that put more effort into it than these movies, heck Monsturd and Thankskilling are better than this. I am sorry but the Daloli-verse tv show was terrible…none of the characters were likable and it was a bad ripoff of SNL only it was a bad parody of internet lolcow culture and not even the skits that were even that terrible were funny, all of the jokes were just mocking autistic people, furries and bronies. And don't get me started on the movie, the movie was awful, i'm sorry but I didn't like the movie that was basically Movie 43 but worse, and what makes the movie worse that a movie that is supposed to be mocking internet universe culture seems like it's a Seltzerberg movie wannabe with outdated meme references (this movie came out in 2010 yet there are references to memes from the early 2000's?), I hated the show and the movies. I tried watching some of them with Bonzi, and Bonzi said he tried watching them while under alcoholic influence, stoned, and under jungle bath salts and he still didn't find it funny.

sitting bolt upright in the middle of the night with the realization that furina is not a parallel to seele, she's a parallel to veliona. walk with me,

obligatory disclaimer that i do not think furina and focalors are an "expy" of the seeles [taking this word away from hyv fans and putting it on a shelf] because nothing shared across these games is ever a one for one copy. even for characters whose names and appearances are the same or similar, inspiration is drawn from multiple different sources. [talk to me about different aspects of mei being seen in makoto and ei respectively, and yae miko being more like rin / higokumaru than sakura]. the setting and tone of each game is very different, and this shapes the characters in different and interesting ways.

i enjoy seele and furina's stories because they're distinct and different entities!! but it's fun to draw comparisons between the two and see what aspects of these stories have been repeated versus where they differ from each other.

like okay listen. i've understood the shallower parallels between focalors and furina and seele and veliona for a while. there's two of them. one of them has short hair the other long. the sea of quanta / the primordial sea. the little mermaid analogies. the shade of life creating focalors's predecessor / veliona being a stigmata of the previous era herrscher of death, seele becoming the herrscher of rebirth. okay yeah fine whatever.

the seeles' story is one of codependency as a result of trauma and isolation, and recovering from it and learning to rely on each other in healthier ways. focalors and furina's story is one of loneliness, duty, and sacrifice.

but both of them are about identity.

since the time they came into being, both furina and veliona have taken on this role of protector to something they hold dear - furina's doomed people, veliona's meek and fragile other half. in order to take on this role, they put on masks - furina's arrogant and exuberant showmanship, veliona's harsh and sarcastic demeanor - to hide away the insecurities that lie beneath.

and when their counterpart is killed / separated from them, these insecurities come right up to the surface, and they're at a loss for what to do with themselves. they don't know who they are if they're not projecting this mask and playing the part of protector. who is veliona when seele grows stronger, makes more friends, doesn't need her anymore? who is furina, after five hundred long years, when she doesn't have to pretend to be a god anymore?

without their counterpart to hide behind, to give them meaning, who do they have that cares for them? that sees past the mask they've put between themselves and the world?

perhaps surprisingly to them, a lot of people!

their friends pick them up when they stumble and pull them forward into a more hopeful future where they can be themselves and live their own lives. seele assuring veliona she does want her around, bronya accepting her, the herrscher of sentience trying to get her to be more confident in herself. neuvillette looking after furina's financial costs, clorinde inviting her out drinking and to meet up with friends so she doesn't stay locked in her apartment forever, the people of fontaine accepting furina as she is.

in the end, they don't entirely abandon these masks of theirs, but repurpose them, borrowing that false confidence and making it into something more real as they take steps to discovering who they are and who they want to be.

Hi welcome back! God i feel that life has been wild lately so i totally understand. Oh hey no worries ive been in a boat too of like. Man i really want to do this thing but my energy just isnt there. I instantly fell in love with her. Very nice clara supremacy she is so good. One day ill have her on main. I think i stopped at tb 60 so i can work on a few characters but the artifact grind hates me. Oh that sounds real interesting i cant wait to see it play out i just finished the bit where cocolia turned bronya & took the one herrscher at uh. Ch 3 end? Oh i know that one! Catarina my beloved she's so stupid i love her. Easily one of the best protags in recent memory. Dunmeshi is real good so far ive been enjoying it & seeing my girl marcille animated is everything i hoped for. Love my favorite fail girl elf. HI THANK YOU!!!! god it really has. and the weather here has been so gloomy recently that i have no energy to do anything even if i have the time. the horrors are endless but we stay silly. and thankies once again!!! i MIRACULOUSLY managed to not fail anything so were all good. unfortunately this month is also already packed but luckily its stuff i more or less either know [polish] or like [geography]. and two of the teachers i disliked got fired AJDKFJG. history guy for offering to raise students' grades if they go around spreading konfederacja [a polish extremely far-right party] flyers and that math teacher who couldnt count for saying hitler was a good person. just another day in a polish school, i guess. but both of our replacement teachers are very cool so we're so back. god yeah totally!!! not only do i have something to do for a while but i ALSO get to eat at the end. literally a win/win situation. yeah that Is annoying but as i mentioned its luckily not as common over here.... and ouhggh pain. gran canaria is VERY beautiful but id also like to visit the other canary islands someday...... the carnival on tenerife is one of the, if not the biggest, ones in spain so thatd be fun to see as well. i only missed the celebrations on gran canaria by one day which was quite annoying but oh well. GOD YEAH. im still convinced School Air is a thing bc i simply cannot explain so many things without that assumption. GOOD LUCK WITH BOTH RUAN MEI AND ACHERON!!! im also saving for acheron hehehehe. strange woman and a mei expy so shes a must pull. and also congrats on the black swan!!!! i agree clara is just. cracked. she has carried me through this game and she continues to do so. tho sim uni gold and gears is kinda beating my ass ngl. since i only have the nodes that require full cognition range left to do. oh absolutely fair, i did that for a while and rn am doing the same but with tl 65. but i DID manage to finallyyyyyy max out wolfie's skills the other day so thats done. i do want to get one better artifact for her but i have chars im prioritizing a bit more. and same the artifact grind hates everyone i think. planar ornaments are much easier to grind imo or at least I Personally have much better luck with them than with cavern of corrosion stuff. but that may also be because i genuinely enjoy doing sim uni so it doesnt feel like as much as a chore as coc. AND OH HAVE FUN THEN!!!! the wendy arc, ironically, is the event that kinda butterfly effect causes Literally The Whole game. CATARINA IS VERY FUN YEAH i look forward to finally continuing that.... and dunmesh as well......... oh and with the sparkle thing afaik its much more prominent in the chinese version because. now dont quote me on this because I Do Not Speak Chinese but i have heard that when talking to aventurine, she uses an Actual Chinese Slur Against Romani People. which. not cool. but yeah its somewhat of a strange issue and ive seen a lot of different opinions from both sides so tbh idk where i stand on the whole thing. SEELE 🔛🔝!!! and dw im Working on the summary but ive also realized how much time its gonna take me to write down All Of That so please give me some time i promise ill get it done asap but ah. and yeah its very fun!! i generally feel like a lot of polish humor [ESPECIALLY online but irl as well] isnt quite as.
