So yesterday I decided to try making matcha for the first time! I bought a starter kit from my local Bird and Blend (not sponsored lol) a little while ago, so thought I'd give it a go.
I didn't think to take any pictures or document it until trying again today and I thought it could be a nice thing to document, as making matcha has an art to it and takes practice.
One day, I'd like to be able to perform tea ceremonies for some friends as I think they'd really like it and it's an art that interests me.
The starter kit comes with this scoop, the whisk (chasen) and, of course, the matcha.
Yesterday's first attempt didn't go very well, as one might expect, haha.
Forgetting that matcha powder is sensitive to water temperature, I poured water straight from the kettle at too high a temperature, which resulted in the matcha tasting bitter.
Today, I paid extra attention to sifting the powder through the above picture sieve. Matcha powder is also very sensitive to humidity and clumps can form when it's stored. Putting the powder through the sieve eliminates the clumps and allows for the matcha to properly dissolve, making for a better drinking experience.
Following yesterday's mistake of adding water that was too hot, I left the water to cool down before adding it to the bowl and...
This is the end result after whisking!
The taste was significantly less bitter, compared to yesterday, but I think I may have added too much water, as the taste seemed a bit weak? Need to look, again, at what the recommended ratio is for powder to water.
If anyone more experienced and knowledgeable about matcha and how to make it has anything they'd like to offer, I definitely invite them to do so!
For Tristan/Jocelyn especially, and anyone else you want to talk about—is there something that would be a breaking point in their relationship? What kind of things do they fight about, and how do they make up?
Tristan/Jocelyn: I think Tristan would only hit his breaking point if Jocelyn went like, FULL evil and murdered everyone...and even then he'd do his damndest to bring her back because he recognizes the demons she's been fighting and knows she needs support. Jocelyn's breaking point would be if Tristan turned full Hans with "if only there was someone who loved you", because that would mean she opened her heart to a monster. They rarely fight and even then, it's arguments over which strategy is better. Their make ups are normally blurted out apologies that overlap each other, followed by hugs and assurances of "I'll never argue with you again".
Also going to do Chasen/Maja since they're cute. Chasen's breaking point would be if Maja refused to let up asking him about his past, and hers would be if he just straight up and left her. They bicker occasionally about parenting (she teases him for their son inheriting his stoicism, he retorts that their daughter got her stubbornness) but rarely ever fight because they were both raised to negotiate and compromise. Their "make ups" (as rare as their fights) normally involve them apologizing and then spending some quality time together to reaffirm their love.
