i have a headcanon that of all the batfam sibling duos, none stresses bruce out more than dick&jason. like, i just headcanon them being absolutely CHAOTIC. like, bruce's eye starts twitching, his blood runs cold, etc. when he finds out dick & jason are out running errands for alfred, or are carpooling to visit roy for a guys weekend, or are joining dami and titus on a walk in the manor woods. like. it could be ANYTHING (big, small, simple), but whenever d&j are involved, bruce get pangs of fear.
😆 See, I have this headcanon as well except it's based on canon, and the duo is Dick and Tim apropos of them acting like children when they’re together. I mean. Playing tag at Wayne Enterprises? Stealing Bruce’s plane and leaving him a note signed Jimmy Olsen? Being stranded in the ocean and them just being like, “After we swim five miles out to our sub, let’s stop in Italy for dinner.”? Train surfing while blindfolded? Knocking out a dude who ordered cheesesteak fajitas and then eating the fajitas for themselves? They are so fucking chaotic.
I feel like Dick and Jason would be the kind of chaotic where it would be like, “Hey, Bruce. Everything is under control. I’ll have Jason turned back into a human in no time.”

Joaquin Phoenix Characters as Comfort Foods
(Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters or images. This is just a fun listicle, not designed to offend anyone. As always, please feel free to leave comments and/or constructive criticism below. I’m always happy to learn more about various dishes and cuisines. Thank you, and without any further ado, please enjoy!)
Characters in this List: Arthur Fleck, Joker, Theodore Twombly, Jimmy Emmett, Doug Holt, Doc Sportello, Freddie Quell, Johnny Cash, Max California, Merrill Hess, Ray Elwood, Bruno Weiss, Abbé de Coulmier, Joe, Lucius Hunt, and Emperor Commodus.
Also, most of the foods in this listicle are savory, so let me know if you want me to do a listicle with sweet comfort foods too!
Arthur Fleck from Joker: Fairy Bread
Tumblr media
Fairy bread is a treat from Australia, made with white bread, butter (or margarine), and sprinkles (or as they call them in Australia, hundreds and thousands). Just like Arthur, this comfort food is quite simplistic but it’s extremely cherished. Plus, the colorful sprinkles would appeal to the inner child inside of Arthur Fleck.
The Joker from Joker: Prawn Mee
Tumblr media
Prawn mee (also called hokkien hae mee) is a spicy street food from Malaysia made with prawns (of course), pork slices, noodles, and water spinach.
Much like Joker’s antics, this noodle dish is never dull with its spicy and savory flavors. In fact, there are many variations to this dish, with some adding eggs or squid along with different kinds of vegetables.
(Plus, I chose this dish keeping in mind a scene from The Dark Night Rises in which Heath Ledger’s Joker eats a piece of shrimp while crashing a party.)
Theodore Twombly from Her : Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese (aka Cheese Toasties)
Tumblr media
I’ve mentioned before how the color red seems to be quite significant to Theodore in this film - he wears it a lot, many of his things are red. So the tomato soup is a good fit.
Also, the warmth of this dish (and the gooey cheese) is a perfect analogy for the way Theodore wears his heart on his sleeve. He can be quite a mushy romantic, and often feels nostalgic for a simpler time of love.
Personally, this dish also brings nostalgia because I used to love it when I was twelve.
Jimmy Emmett from To Die For: Chili Dogs
Tumblr media
It’s quite ‘grungy’ in appearance, much like Jimmy Emmett. And the intensity of the bold meat flavors and cheese do quite represent the intense obsession that Jimmy has with Nicole Kidman’s character.
(And I’ve heard it’s a great hangover/munchies food best served with potato chips)
Doug Holt from Inventing the Abbotts: Matzo Ball Soup
Tumblr media
Matzo balls are soup dumplings made of unleavened bread flour, that are usually added to chicken or vegetable broth. Just like Doug Holt, they are absolutely wholesome and comforting no matter what.
Doc Sportello from Inherent Vice: Omurice
Tumblr media
Omurice is a Japanese dish that combines an omelette and fried rice, which sounds like a nice representation of someone who combines the best of both words, being a private investigator and a hippie.
Also, out of all of Joaquin’s characters, I’m pretty sure Doc would be totally down to try this as an alternate breakfast or snack.
Freddie Quell from The Master: Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mao)
Tumblr media
One of the running storylines in The Master is Freddie’s interest in alcohol - and getting drunk off of it. He mixes various chemicals and substances to create concoctions (that may not be for everyone) to get a buzz. So it only makes sense that his comfort food comes from the word for ‘drunkard’.
These noodles don’t actually contain any alcohol, but the flavors of black pepper and red chile give it a distinct hotness. (Kind of like how Freddie’s hot-headed nature can be quite dangerous at times.)
Johnny Cash from Walk The Line: Fried Catfish
Tumblr media
Fried catfish is quite popular in Kingsland, Alabama - Cash’s hometown - so it would be a nice choice to represent this iconic singer. Also, the movie showed fishing as one of Johnny Cash’s hobbies.
Max California from 8 MM: Poutine
Tumblr media
Emerging in the 1950s, poutine is a Canadian dish made with french fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy (usually beef or turkey-flavored). The word ‘poutine’ itself comes from the French word ‘poutine’ (meaning “pudding”) and was used to describe the “sloppy” appearance of this dish.
Much like Max California’s job as a porn vendor, poutine can look quite messy on the outside. However, it has a comforting, warm taste that matches how genuine Max really is on the inside.
Also, I can imagine Max’s work costing him some long nights that call for fast food (meaning fries!).
Merrill Hess from Signs: Philly Cheesesteak
Tumblr media
Philly cheesesteaks are named for the American city Philadelphia, which is quite close to Bucks County, Pennsylvania (the location for many of the scenes filmed  for Signs).
This greasy sandwich made of steak, onions, peppers, and (lots of!) cheese is an integral part of American cuisine, just like how baseball - Merrill’s passion - is fondly known as “America’s pastime”.
Also, I can imagine Merrill having quite an appetite, so a cheesesteak would satisfy him.
Ray Elwood from Buffalo Soldiers: Beans on Toast
Tumblr media
While being a staple in the United Kingdom, beans on toast would probably suit a soldier like Ray Elwood. Given that the ingredients are nothing more than canned beans and bread, it would be the best choice of comfort food for someone always staying in an army bunker.
(Not to mention, it’s pretty easy to make - he could make this while taking a break from shipping illegal drugs around Berlin)
Bruno Weiss from The Immigrant: Schnitzel with Mushroom Gravy
Tumblr media
Bruno Weiss may seem like a hedonist on the outside, being a ruthless pimp and entertainer who will do anything to make a profit. However on the inside, his character craves for warmth and affection.
Schnitzel is a German comfort food consisting of a piece of meat (or cheese) that is breaded and fried before being coated in a flavorful gravy. Much like Bruno himself, schnitzel has quite a hard, distinctive exteriors and a tender interior.
Abbé de Coulmier from Quills: Ratatouille
Tumblr media
(This dish has a fun name, I’m not going to lie) What better choice for a French priest than a summer entrée that originates in Nice, France? Ratatouille is a vegetable stew made with various types of squash, tomatoes, zucchini (or courgette), and eggplant (aka aubergine).
Much like Abbé, this dish may seem quite simple (based on its ingredients, which are primarily vegetables) but it is quite filling and comforting. This dish is surprisingly warm during cold nights, just like how Abbé’s presence brings warmth to Charenton.
Joe from You Were Never Really Here: Spaghetti Alla Norma
Tumblr media
Spaghetti is already a popular comfort food in itself, but Joe’s maturity as a character definitely calls for a slightly elegant version of pasta. Spaghetti alla Norma is made with fried eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and basil to garnish. The eggplant definitely adds a meaty component to this dish, just like Joe’s complicated past makes his storyline in the film quite compelling.
Lucius Hunt from The Village: Minestrone
Tumblr media
Minestrone is an Italian vegetarian soup usually consisting of carrots, celery, beans, and pasta in a tomato-based broth. The herbs (thyme, rosemary, oregano) flavoring it definitely offer a rustic type of taste. Not to mention, a warm bowl of this soup does wonders after a long day of walking through the woods.
Emperor Commodus from Gladiator: Chicken Tikka Masala
Tumblr media
As always, my favorite is saved for last. *sighs* Honestly, I think the rich, creamy nature of the gravy, along with the blend of spices, makes this perfect for an emperor’s lavish and robust palette. Also, it is by far one of the most popular dishes around the world (especially in the United Kingdom) - just like how Commodus is one of Phoenix’s most iconic roles.

So...The Irishman explains why my dad’s side of the family has always had a pretty negative opinion of Philadelphia (they’re all in NJ). I’ve always been like, “It’s just a city?” (I’m born and raised in the southern US.)
But evidently, despite all Philadelphia’s attempts at being all “Liberty Bell! Independence Hall! American Revolution! Rocky! Run up the steps like Rocky! *Rocky Theme plays!* Soft pretzels! Cheesesteaks! Youse guys!”
...for a significant part of the regional population Philadelphia is more like “Mob hits! Jimmy Hoffa! Violence!”
And this explains. So much.

Get in losers, it’s emo hour.
I’ve been very fortunate in life to meet some wonderful people because of a show we all love. I’ve met life long friends because of these shows and can spend hours texting or calling them about god knows what. Unlike my previous friendships I’ve made, this one came with a bigger group aspect that I never saw coming. All I remember was Janiene talking about a Mean Girls group chat and after we saw it, she invited me to it and the rest is history.
I’m the oldest person in this group of exceptional people - most of them are females and what incredible women they are. These are not superhero type women, but every day women who live with passion and love for their friends, respect for the women who came before them and continue to come forward, and are just overall just fantastic.
@revengeparty - Wit and dry, sarcastic humor in spades but a heart of gold beating beneath it. Gwen could kill a man and I’d absolutely - a. Believe she did for a good reason, and b. Support her in that moment. Gwen in reality brought the group together and keeps the peace when things get a little chaotic. She is the level head we need from time to time to reel us in from whatever cliff we’re on. You believe in what you believe and you stand up for what you know in your heart is right - you’re steadfast, strong, and the total opposite of kale salad. This incredible badass graduates today from John Jay with a 4.0 and a bunch of fancy titles that I’m sure as she’s reading this she’s rolling her eyes I’m mentioning. You’re a bad ass and I’m forever grateful to have you in my life. SUCKS YES! ❤️🙌🏻
@janisarkisians - My fellow Leo Queen, the Janis to my Damian, and fellow Old. We get each other on a different level because of our connection to where we grew up. Mean Girls officially brought you into my life after forever of us being internet friends and I’m so grateful that it did. Everything you do has a flare and style to that it is uniquely you and no one rocks a LEWK quite like you do. We go together like cheesesteaks and wiz wit, ice cream and jimmies, and a hot Philly day and Rita’s. You’re the Lady to my Star because you kick ass, take no shit, but also are one hell of a lady.
@d-ridleys - Once you’ve sobbed through a musical, I like to think you’re bonded for life. You have such a warmth and heart to you that truly cannot be matched. Whether it’s sitting on line for a Cher Show CD signing or waiting for The Prom to wreck us, you bring such a joy and light to every time we’ve hung out. You’ve seen your share of dark clouds, but you are strong, bold, and like super famous on Twitter. We’re the platonic Seth and Summer and we love a Captain Oats. As the youngest of the Olds, you’re the Babe to my Star and Janiene’s Lady and it’s cliche to say, but I’ve got you, babe.
@nobody-told-the-horse - Most people wouldn’t let me take their phone and tell the world that they hate a certain former Newsie and Mathlete because the bitch stole your cookie. You on the other hand - you let me. You’re incredibly hardworking, passionate, and you may not realize it at times, but strong. You’ve been through it since I’ve known you and yet every time you get back on your feet like a mistep on choreography and you take it from the top. I don’t know in what facet, but someday you’ll find yourself involved with a show and I’ll proudly bring you a pineapple as a gift.
@treblemakerz - The world can be a bitch sometimes and you’ve seen your fair share of it, but the thing is - you never truly let it defeat you. You get knocked down, but you get back up again. Your heart and spirit are so special and your passion for what you love is unmatched. We’ve clung to each other through numerous World Burns and Till Someone Gets Hurts and cried our way through Wicked and you just get it. Despite the darkness life throws your way and no matter how deep underground to the depths of Hadestown you go, there’s always a light and a heart to start the song over again.
@annablisshoa - When I got you as my Secret Santa, I like literally panicked because I didn’t know you as well as everyone else. Then I got the idea to make the Buddy the Elf Instagram and through that I got to know you, I got to bring a little Christmas joy to your days and try and ease things a little for you. You’ve officially left the world of high school behind (except when you’re at the August Wilson) and you’re about to take the big step into the world. You’ve seen your struggles and strife, but you keep going, keep trying. I wish such great things for you in the future and can’t wait to see where you go.
@kleksuh - Tara doesn’t have time for your shit or your heterosexuality. You keep it very real and you aren’t afraid to let people know exactly what you’re thinking. Honestly if you told me you cured sex cancer, I’d believe you. You’re totally queen bee and you slay all day!
@dontwannalosemyself - Let’s just lay all the cards on the table - your host family is a mess and that’s the tea. But despite that, your warmth, your humor, and your heart shine through. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders and taking such a giant leap coming here took some serious guts many don’t have. I can’t wait till I can actually meet you in person and give you a hug because it’s been long over due. You keep the plates of the mess that is your host family spinning but continue to be anything but a mess.
@kndrickanna - Not unlike the person you have a URL for - you’ve got some sass, you’ve got some sarcasm, and you’re scrappy. You’ve cried, you’ve had moments, but ultimately you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Also, unlike the other Val I’ve known, you’re always welcome at the August Wilson.
@starcuffedjeans - Emily, Emily, Emily. What truly can be said to capture who you are as a person. You’re incredibly unique and you march to the beat of your own drum no matter what. You’ve got a big heart and some zingers and one liners that are truly a treat to witness. You never let anyone tell you how to enjoy what you enjoy and you are steadfast in your feelings on things. You love what you love, and that’s that. Whether it’s March of the Witch Hunters or an endless quest to find a Fanta or Wegman’s, you love hard and take questions later. You’re truly one of a kind and I wouldn’t want you any other way.
@chloebeale - Cole, the only other non female in the group. I don’t always understand the things you’re into but like Emily you love hard in what it is you love. Your art work is incredible and will take you so very far in life. I want nothing more than for than for you to feel supported and loved in all ways. Keep going, my dude, keep going. ❤️
You’re all stars.
You are so real
You are so rare
I see you there, I see you
We may not be mellow or cool, but we roll deep and I love you all so much and I cherish you all. ❤️

Notes on Season 14- Part 1 (contains spoilers, are mostly complaints about Torres and Quinn, and are my personal opinions, don’t @ me)
Since Season 14 started rerunning in Australia on 9 October, I’ve decided to write down things I forgot or would like to emphasise upon:
Rogue
Torres being as cocky, smarmy, and insufferable as ever from the very first scene
Fornell staying at Gibbs’ house was the best part of the episode- his scenes are always awesome
Quinn being an asshole for many reasons, including the fact that she pretended like she didn’t remember Bishop from FLETC just to mess with her, and saying that there were good kinds of sociopaths
Torres willingly going off the grid and voluntarily entering into a fake, emotionally-manipulative relationship with a girl when it wasn’t the only option
Torres being incredibly rude to Vance and Gibbs, and complaining about consequences of being a federal agent when he knew full well what they would be
Quinn being a pushy dickhead, talking over people and interrupting them because she wanted to be the best
Quinn taking advantage of Fornell’s state and using poker to take all his money
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Being Bad
Torres’ picture of himself was the most self-obsessed thing ever, and refusing to put on his team jacket to accompany the team on a Friday case, when he wasn’t even meant to start until Monday so he had no reason to complain about doing something he didn’t want to do was annoying as
Jimmy’s reaction to meeting Torres and Quinn was adorable
Abby’s skull-and-rose-adorned bullhorn was the most Abby thing ever
Quinn being nosy about McGee’s private life and making him uncomfortable with her questions about him proposing to Delilah just made me hate her more
Torres automatically sitting down in a chair without even bothering to offer it to Gibbs, and Gibbs having to give him a look before he caught on was such a dick move
Jimmy accidentally saying he spent a night in jail in high school and awkwardly changing the subject was Peak Palmer
Bishop talking about being voted prom queen as a joke was so sad, and so was Gibbs talking about how he loved to paint but life got in the way
Quinn coming up with an idea for more work to figure out the killer, then complaining about having to do the work was so hypocritical and lazy
McGee directly addressing that Quinn disrupted their work environment, and her being proud instead of saying sorry or having the decency to look ashamed
Privileged Information
Torres being misogynistic right off the bat, objectifying ‘yoga ladies’ and leering at them
Quinn rudely interrupting conversations as per usual
I really love the little gap between Dr. Grace’s front teeth; she just wouldn’t look right without it
Quinn pointing out the blatantly obvious like she was the first one to think of it
Torres being insensitive about Bishop’s divorce and rudely dodging her questions when she was just trying to be nice
Torres leaving Bishop to do all the work after persisting the maintenance guy in the building to let him look at an apartment for himself, instead of doing it in his own time
Fornell making dinner for Gibbs was great
Abby birdsitting Kyle’s rescued parrot Juan was such an Abby thing to do, and Jimmy talking to him was so cute
Dr. Grace calling Fornell ‘J. Edgar’ was awesome
Quinn being chipper, happy and upbeat when insensitively talking about a vic that died just a few hours before
Juan the parrot talking when he wasn’t supposed to be with Abby anymore and Gibbs saying he sounded like Palmer was classic
The team should know by now that witnesses/suspects etc. that’re too eager to help with the case usually did it
Juan flying into the bullpen was great, and Bishop telling Dr. Grace about Rule #17 was too, especially when McGee broke it
Gibbs and Dr. Grace going to the basement and leaving Fornell upstairs was so funny
Love Boat
McGee talking about proposing to Delilah was the most adorable thing ever
Quinn showing off her experience and then complaining about it was so obnoxious and ungrateful
“Eleanor Bishop, can you please be my Frodo?” was the best
Jimmy calling Quinn a ‘very handsome woman’ was a definitely something I hadn’t heard before
McGee being super-awkward around Delilah was adorkable
Quinn making an insensitive joke about medication when there are people with actual mental health problems was really problematic
Torres complaining about being told to do a simple job that a kid could do was pathetic
Quinn angrily pointing out a problem that she was the cause of was peak hypocrisy
Arresting someone in front of their kid is a delicate situation, and Gibbs handled it really well
The elevator proposal was just as perfect as the original plan
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Philly
McGee roasting Bishop so effortlessly was amazing
Quinn was such a dick to Francis, the poor guy
Torres was so misogynistic in saying that all women want to settle down, and wanting McGee to bail him out (and McGee shutting him down was great)
I love Reeves, his accent, and the way he talks (I just love everything about him, rip)
Quinn talking back to Gibbs and being insubordinate was just so rude
Bishop and Reeves’ greeting and hug was the cutest thing ever
Gibbs shutting down Torres’ complaining was great
Quinn using work time for personal time was so rude, and so was her dodging Bishop’s concerned questions
Bishop sitting especially close to Reeves and getting him a cheesesteak was super sweet, and the way they smiled at each other was so adorable
Reeves has a double-shoulder gun-holster like Tony’s
McGee pulling a Ziva and holding a gun in each hand was such a power move
Abby further shutting down Torres’ misogynistic attitude was even better
Bishop and Reeves were standing so close together, this was only the fourth time they spent time together and they were already so comfortable with each other
Torres not listening to McGee and Abby about the printers was plain rude
Quinn drinking on the job was so unprofessional and neglectful
Quinn is just so rude and unpleasant to everyone, I don’t know how the team was able to stand her for as long as they did
I loved how Bishop instantly backed Reeves up without hesitation or question
Quinn’s story about her old partner was sad, but it really was her fault due to her indulging in something personal until waiting until the job was over
Reeves is such a gentleman, and he and Bishop always worked so well together
The ‘you’re not my mate, she is’ was so sad and sweet at the same time
Torres giving Abby McGee’s printer instead of a new one was such a dick move, especially after she was so nice to him
Even from a purely objective standpoint, I still can’t believe the writers didn’t try to make Rishop a thing after this episode
Shell Game
Torres was being such a dick not wearing his vest Abby made for him, even just briefly
Quinn should’ve cut Francis loose the very first time they parted ways, instead of still stringing him along
That TSA agent is way too peppy
Torres is just so gross and over-sharing
Frank the dog kinda looks like Tony the dog from S2- I loved that episode
I love how Abby always goes all out for Halloween
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Home Of The Brave
Abby, Bishop and McGee all trying to get Tony’s apartment was great
Bishop and McGee’s dreams about Gibbs were funny, but Quinn’s dream about Gibbs was the grossest, creepiest thing ever
Ducky quoting Hamlet was a very Ducky thing to do, and so was his rules about using his hat for nonsense
Bishop getting Medina to join her in terrible singing was awesome
McGee talking about Delilah was adorable
The veteran-deportation subplot was so important
Torres was such an asshole putting himself in the draw to get Tony’s apartment- he didn’t even know him
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Pay to Play (technically Ep. 9, but the two episodes originally aired in the wrong order with continuity errors for some reason)
Reeves getting Bishop her favourite chips was the sweetest thing ever- how could the writers consistently put things like that in the script and not make Rishop a thing- I don’t get why they added Qasim into the mix, then have him die, then have Bishop and Torres become a thing
The congresswoman’s gun-control opinion was actually really interesting
The Torres/driving instructor “You okay, sir?” “I stare death in the face every day.” exchange was great
Quinn was being so nosy, invading Reeves’ privacy and spying on a classified file of his
The highlighting of how important a base is to a small town was really good
Torres’ attempts throughout the episode to one-up Reeves were stupid and juvenile, and just stemmed from his own jealousy and insecurity
Enemy Combatant (technically Ep. 8, but the two episodes originally aired in the wrong order with continuity errors for some reason)
Bishop’s brothers are the absolute best, ‘we just want to make sure he’s not a deranged serial killer or a vegan’ was hilarious and so was them taking over her desk and interacting with the team
Jimmy attempting to deep-fry a turkey and getting in an accident was Very Jimmy
Of course Torres was insensitive about faiths and religions
Even Torres thought Bishop and Reeves were together (and complimented his jawline in the process), and so did Quinn (and of course she was an asshole about it)
The way Reeves looked at Bishop, COME ON, and ‘that brain of yours is brilliant’ COME ON!!
Torres being surprised Bishop could speak another language, seriously?
Ugh, Qasim’s so cute, poor thing didn’t deserve to die (and especially the way he did), rip
‘Big, big fan of your sister’ AWWW
John shutting down the elevator (how’d he know how to do that?) and Rob translating British slang for the others was great
The ‘fake terrorist’ plotline is so important, and it really isn’t exaggerated at all- things like that happen every day
Bishop and Qasim were such a power couple at Gitmo, and him retelling his story was so touching and powerful
Reeves flipping the gun out of the yogi guy’s hands and pointing it at him was seriously cool
‘I broke rule 12’ and Gibbs supporting it was awesome
‘Thank God, we thought it was Gibbs’ was amazing
To reiterate one of my original points- I still don’t get why the writers made Qasim Bishop’s boyfriend, only to kill him off a few episodes later, especially because they’d already written multiple instances of her and Reeves being more than friends and could’ve just continued to explore that instead? Don’t get me wrong- Bishop and Qasim (Qishop? Basim?) were an adorable couple, but their relationship was a weird, unnecessary addition to the plot
The Tie That Binds
Emily continues to be one of the best characters ever, and Fornell continues to have some of the best reactions ever
Of course Quinn was being annoying about Gibbs’ rules
One thing NCIS always does well is casting, especially with actors playing younger versions of their older counterparts
Reeves talking smack is one of the best things ever
The word ‘twonk’ is rife with joke potential in the late 2010s
POW!-Nog sounds disgusting, no offence to Abby
Will Torres ever not be insensitive about dead people
The conversation between old and young Ducky was hilarious
Ducky and Mr. Rin were so cute
Emily’s termite plan was pretty ingenious and worked perfectly, and the scene between her and Fornell was adorable
Willoughby
Qishop/Basim were so cute ‘just wanted to walk Ellie to her desk’ AWW
The ‘exploding plane’ gag was a little cliche, but it did work pretty well
‘the one that looks like a sculpture’ was a pretty great description of Reeves, and Qasim saying he put Bishop as his emergency contact was SO CUTE
Bishop being worried about Reeves was so sweet
Quinn and Torres on a stakeout is a terrible idea, and so are the two of them
Torres taking extra donuts was such a dick move, and so was Quinn complaining about the window when it was her idea in the first place
‘thanks for the non-marinated steak’ was a great casual, Vance-esque burn
Reeves talking about his past and Bishop was so sad- I was nearly crying
I remember watching this scene and being so frustrated that Bishop didn’t pull Qasim to the ground with her, but the grip on each other’s hands was pretty light, plus the fact that he had bullets pushing him in the opposite direction meant that there wasn’t really any other outcome
Poor Bishop- just when she thought she’d found happiness
The scene with Bishop and Reeves was so sad
Again, I still don’t get why the writers made Bishop and Qasim a thing if they were just going to kill him off and have more-than-friends moments with Bishop and Reeves
Off the Grid
Torres trying to mooch off Quinn’s gift was such a dick move, but what else would you expect from him
Poor Bishop, her past year-and-a-bit has been terrible in terms of relationships
Quinn trying to talk to Bishop when she clearly wanted to be left in peace and quiet, seriously?
Quinn breaking Kelly’s plate, then roping in Abby to try and cover it up and thinking Gibbs wouldn’t notice was so naive and insensitive
McGee and Torres’ little setup was pretty slick, ngl
It’s amazing what facial hair can do to someone’s appearance
Gibbs believes in Abby with all his heart, aww
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES

After more than a year of large-scale fairs, festivals and events being a no-go because of the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s actually the sun, in case you’ve forgotten what it looks like.
There are things to go and do this summer all over Southern California, from family favorites like the OC Fair and Pageant of the Masters to music festivals such as Hard Summer and BeachLife. While many of the events happening will be modified, and in many cases with smaller audiences than before the pandemic, there are still ways to get out and celebrate.
There’s one big caveat here: If we learned anything in the last year, it’s that plans can change fast. Be sure to check refund and cancellation policies before plunking down your cryptocurrency. And you will need to stay on top of COVID-19 precautions, which are also a moving target. Your best bet? Checking with the events’ websites and social media pages for the latest updates and pricing. Be advised that tickets for many events are required to be purchased in advance.
And even though events are being scheduled well into the fall, we’re capping our list as events through the end of September for now.
Sign up for our Festival Pass newsletter. Whether you are a Coachella lifer or prefer to watch from afar, get weekly dispatches during the Southern California music festival season. Subscribe here.

Philly Cheesesteak Rolls
Spoiler alert: this was a very disappoint bake at the end of a day of really great bakes.
I found this recipe to make homemade hoagies for cheesesteaks, and I thought that would be fun instead of buying day old Jimmy John’s bread or hoagie rolls in a pack of six that we only need two of. I know now that this is worth buying, not worth making.
These were right on track until the very last step before baking: you’re supposed to sort of put a slit in the top of each one — not all the way through the top bun, just sort of score it. As soon as I did that, my rolls that had been rising for an hour deflated. They baking pretty flat, and they didn’t come out airy. They came out pretty tough. We still used them for the sandwiches, but it was a real workout for our jaws.

You’ve Heard of Ghost Kitchens. Meet the Ghost Franchises. A video from MrBeast, a 22-year-old YouTube star with 54 million subscribers, usually goes something like this: An outlandish setup — say, staging a fake robbery — results in a fan’s winning thousands of dollars or a new car. But in late December, MrBeast (real name: Jimmy Donaldson, an upbeat bro from North Carolina) dropped something different on his viewers. “I literally just opened 300 restaurants all across America,” he said in a December video announcing MrBeast Burger, a chain serving smash burgers and fries. “But we only serve people through delivery apps.” But MrBeast Burger is not quite what most of us think of as a chain, or even a restaurant. In exchange for a cut of sales revenue, the brand supplies the name, logo, menu, recipes and publicity images to any restaurant owner with the space and staff to make burgers as a side hustle. When a customer orders from the MrBeast Burger in Midvale, Utah, the food is prepared at a location of the red-sauce chain Buca di Beppo, following a standardized MrBeast recipe. In Manhattan, a MrBeast Burger is prepared at the neighborhood bar Handcraft Kitchen & Cocktails. Call it a ghost franchise — and expect to see many more of them this year, with and without celebrity names attached. In December, Virtual Dining Concepts, the company behind MrBeast Burger, announced similar ventures with the TV personality Mario Lopez and the “Jersey Shore” alumnus Pauly D. The parent company of Nextbite, another pioneer of the model, received $120 million in venture-capital funding in October for its 13 virtual brands. Franklin Junction, founded last year, helps restaurants do business as known food brands, including Wow Bao and Nathan’s Famous. Companies like Future Foods, Combo Kitchen and the Local Culinary are all making similar plays. In the delivery app era, the ghost franchise can be a lifeline for the independent restaurateur, a way to make thousands of dollars a month in a devastating time. It can also be a liability, exploding the marketplace in ways that serve big brands more than small businesses. James Garofalo, 52, grew up working at his father’s diner in Chicago Heights, Ill. Now, he’s the chief operating officer at Goddess and the Baker, a cafe with several locations in Chicago and one in Brookfield, Wis. At first, Mr. Garofalo was skeptical of the ghost-franchise model. But as the pandemic cut off foot traffic, he decided it might make sense. “At this point, you’re looking for ways to generate dollars, keep staff on,” he added. Mr. Garofalo now runs 12 of Nextbite’s ghost franchises out of the kitchen of his Brookfield cafe: Monster Mac, the Big Melt, Grilled Cheese Society, Miss Mazy’s Amazin’ Chicken, Toss It Up, CraveBurger, Outlaw Burger, Ghost Grille, Firebelly Wings, Wild Wild Wings, the Wing Dynasty and HotBox by Wiz, from rapper Wiz Khalifa. The day-to-day is less chaotic than it sounds. Delivery-app orders stream into one tablet, and the takeout containers all come from the same pile; nothing is branded except HotBox orders, and those have just a sticker. Recipes from Nextbite’s Colorado test kitchen are easy to follow, and the company recommends ingredients from the suppliers Mr. Garofalo already uses. Nextbite takes a 45 percent cut of sales, but handles all delivery-app fees, which would be, for Mr. Garofalo, as high as 30 percent per order. In his best month so far, he cleared $20,000 across the 12 brands. The arrangement has allowed Mr. Garofalo to add new types of food without the labor of menu development or the worry of muddying his own brand. But what restaurant owners are really buying from these companies is not just recipes or a cutesy name. They’re buying a solution to a problem facing every small restaurant that’s living as a name on a screen among all the other names on a screen: visibility. “Before Covid, you had some restaurants that did not need to be on these third-party systems,” said Kymme Williams-Davis, the owner of Bushwick Grind, a cafe in Brooklyn. “But now every restaurant, every cafe, every commercial kitchen and every ghost kitchen is on these apps. It’s more competitive.” If someone on her block searches Grubhub for espresso, Bushwick Grind is buried below more than 20 shops, some of them miles away. The business model hinges on deals the ghost-franchise parent companies strike with third-party delivery apps (which are notorious for taking advantage of workers and restaurants), using the leverage of having hundreds of listable “restaurants” to broker top spots for them in search results. If a customer in the Brookfield area searches for grilled cheese on DoorDash, Grilled Cheese Society comes up as the first suggestion. In a search for wings, Firebelly is third and Wild Wild Wings is fourth. “Like anyone else, we pay to be on apps and we pay for placement,” said Geoff Madding, Nextbite’s chief executive. He added, “The more value you’re bringing, probably the stronger negotiating position you’re in.” In January, Ms. Williams-Davis started selling online as Mariah’s Cookies, the Virtual Dining Concepts brand partnership with the singer Mariah Carey, as a test run to see if the extra sales could help Bushwick Grind “stay alive during this really unprecedented time,” she said. She had to close for six months last year, she said, after her father and several of his cousins died from Covid-19. Her cafe is an exemplar of a community-minded business; she runs a community refrigerator, feeds vaccine workers and has plans to open an urban farm. “I don’t want to contribute to not buying local, right?” she said. “In one way, if you’re buying from Mariah’s Cookies, and that name and that advertising machine can get customers, you kind of are buying local because I’m making the cookies. But at the same time, the perception is that you’re not buying local. I’m on the fence. But if it nets out to hurt small businesses, it’s not something I’m going to continue to do.” Nationwide, more than 150 MrBeast Burgers are operating out of locations of Buca di Beppo, Bravo! Italian Kitchen, Brio Italian Grille and Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta. Those four restaurant chains are owned and operated by Robert Earl, the founder of Planet Hollywood; Virtual Dining Concepts, which operates MrBeast Burger, was co-founded by Mr. Earl and his son, Robbie Earl. Similarly, many of Franklin Junction’s ghost franchises are operated out of a Ruby Tuesday or a Frisch’s Big Boy, chains owned by Franklin Junction’s parent company NRD Capital, a private equity firm. But even an independent restaurant can get a virtual brand up and running in less than 30 days, with few limits to the number of brands one owner can take on. And that potential speed of proliferation could result in a delivery-app ecosystem where the ghost-franchise parent companies duke it out at the top, while the truly independent restaurants are pushed farther down the list. In New York City, this is already happening. If you’ve noticed the torrent of perplexing restaurant names on delivery apps, many of them confusingly similar, this too is a manifestation of the ghost franchise. When Jacky Cheng, a resident of the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, ordered from Village Breakfast Snob on DoorDash, “it didn’t really cross my mind that it was a ghost kitchen,” he said. “Although it should have, because who the heck names their restaurant that?” The food, he later found out, came from a bodega in the East Village that is operating as at least 10 ghost brands, including LA Breakfast Club and American Cheesesteaks. New York is now home to the Pancake Snob, Breakfast Burrito Snob, Sushi Snob, Pad Thai Snob, Chicken Tikka Snob and Snobby Chicken Wings. There’s also the Burger Bae and Breakfast Be Loved. The style of these names creates a marketplace that parallels Amazon in some ways, said Lea Chu, a group director of naming at the brand strategy firm Siegel & Gale. You have a need — there, a hole puncher; here, a breakfast burrito — and a hyper-specific listing is there to fill it. Seven years ago, Ms. Chu surveyed the name of every restaurant in Manhattan, a project that took weeks. Restaurant owners usually want names that won’t sound silly in a year, she said. Here, that matters less. “What’s the worst that could happen?” Ms. Chu said. “Your name becomes irrelevant and you have to change it? It probably doesn’t matter. There’s so much fluctuation in this restaurant landscape that everyone’s going to be used to names changing all the time.” For now, we seem to be entering a period in which every “Bachelorette” contestant from the last 18 years will have a virtual deli. Mario’s Tortas Lopez and Pauly D’s Italian Subs are listed in dozens of markets. Since January, at least 130 outlets of Guy Fieri’s first virtual brand, Flavortown Kitchen, have opened. And MrBeast Burger has already spread to Canada. A following of 54 million YouTube subscribers sells a lot of sandwiches — more than a million in the first two months, in fact. “My son is 18, my daughter is 14, and they think MrBeast is hilarious,” said Cece Kaufman, an interior designer in San Francisco. In December, the family went on what Ms. Kaufman cheerfully called a “road trip” — a 40-minute drive into the delivery zone of the closest MrBeast Burger, to meet a DoorDash driver carrying three smash burgers and two orders of fries. The teenagers, like most ghost kitchen customers, had no idea where the food was made. “They didn’t care,” Ms. Kaufman said. “The wrapper had the MrBeast stickers on it, so they thought it was great.” Source link Orbem News #Franchises #Ghost #heard #Kitchens #Meet #youve

Karaoke with Tyson

“I think I need to explain them better,” he replied.  “I’m going to get my sing on, you’re going to enjoy the trainwreck/show, and we both get yummy karaoke bar food.  They’ve got a Philly Cheesesteak eggroll that is tops blooby.  Nobody will pressure you into performing.”
Though he did catch her humming melodically that one time at work, and when he crashed at her place for the night and she thought he was asleep on the couch so she was singing in the shower…if she didn’t feel like performing, it was her call.  If she didn’t want to go at all, they’d find some other place.
Kara smiled at Tyson’s campaign for a night out. “Philly cheese steak eggroll. Man that does sound good.” She tapped her pen thoughtfully on her desk. They had an hour left at CatCo and that gave her sixty minutes to think of something better or cave in and endure a mass of poorly drunk singing.
“So, who else is coming? I’m pretty certain you wouldn’t have to convince Winn, but Jimmy and Lena might take more arm twisting.”
