Notes: This piece is a self-prompt, a Drarry AU inspired by the adorable 2020 Japanese live-action drama “Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!”, an adaptation of the manga by the same name by Yuu Toyota. You do not have to be familiar with Cherry Magic to understand the fic, and I do not think the fic will spoil the drama, which I highly encourage you to watch because it’s super cute and hilarious. 14. Hello! I'm in the mood for explorations of bad Lan Xichen, or Lan Xichen bashing. It's common to see JC bashing, but really, poor old JC was screwed by his family and lied to, I'd be enraged too. But how could LXC be THAT stupid? What happened to trust but verify? He's either truly truly stupid, or completely complicit. Maybe he loved being JGY's special one so much? I dunno. But no-one is that stupid. And the Lan sect has so much to answer for, with its cruelty and hypocrisy (they were at Qiongqi path as guards) (what, they didn't report to their sect leader? Really?). Sometimes I forget that Madoka's magical girl bow is literally a rose, and that we see it sprout and grow into its final form in its first appearance.

Homura also gets a bow in this episode, which I have always interpreted as the manifestation of her wish to remember Madoka's existence (since her old wish was rendered invalid by Madoka's becoming an eternal concept), thus becoming "Bowmura Akemi". However, it's not until it manifests in Rebellion that we see it isn't merely evocative of Madoka's bow, but its mirror.

Is the height difference between the bows significant here? I have no idea. Ditto for Madoka's bow being in bud while Homura's is in full flower.

Okay. So you remember Walpurgisnacht's trees, right? Those weird things that are mostly in the background and which are never directly commented upon or explained, but which are juxtaposed with Homura an awful lot? There's a common trope in myth, literature, and fairy tales about planting a staff into a ground and having it grow and magically turn into a tree, and now I'm wondering, Is this where Walpurgisnacht's trees come from? Because what is a bow but a curved wooden staff tied to a string....?

And yes, the bow is a rose bow (or a black rose bow), and the trees are almost certainly cherry trees, so the botany gets a little mixed, but it probably doesn't matter since a) magic and/or metaphor, and b) Madoka is associated with both pink roses and pink cherry blossoms, just like Homura is associated with black roses and bare branches, so the symbolism still works out.

This is all highly speculative, and I have no idea if this is where SHAFT is going or if it's just a coincidence, but I can't look at the bow anymore without wondering what would happen if someone stuck it in the ground, and what it might become. Especially since we may end up seeing that bow again in Walpurgis no Kaiten.

Meanwhile, back in Rebellion, Homura and Madoka appear to be doing some kind of Connect (or proto-Connect, since the Magia Record concept hadn't been fully developed yet) akin to Madoka and Mami's Tiro Duet attack earlier in the film. What's interesting about this shot is that there's no sign of black roses anywhere, which is not how Connect usually manifests in Magia Record, where the nature of the fusion is more obvious (i.e., Kyouko's spear + Iroha's crossbow becomes a giant crossbow that fires spears instead of arrows in the MR anime), but which may symbolize how Homura "blooms" in Madoka's presence.

In addition, the bow is now huge and I think it's not only what they're holding in their hands, but also the entire structure that's supporting them (which has wings!!) because you can see two sets of purple and pink jewels on either side. Maybe it's just me, but the "branches" of the structure are awfully tree-like and I can see what might be a few leafy shoots by their feet.

Also, they appear to be standing in the canopy of the cherry tree that has blossomed in Homulilly's skull with no transition whatsoever, which is why the background is abruptly pink. Which raises a question I had never considered before: is their combined bow the cherry tree itself (or a part of it)??? Is that what's happening here??

And if that's truly the case, then maybe my earlier thought about Homura's black bow somehow becoming one of Walpurgisnacht's trees isn't so far off base after all...

Dear listener, three months ago I began posting music by recently deceased artists and long-dead bands that were, all of them, exceptional in some way. I haven’t stopped since, and with this post I hereby pronounce my quarter-year long rediscovery of dead bands to be officially complete… and lucky you, I’ve got a plump Maraschino cherry to place on top of this layered ice cream cake. Folks, crank the volume, smash play, and be placed in salivating awe at one of the most influential dead bands of all-time. Imagine a musical act that is completely mediocre in every way; just some shitty, generic modern band the likes of which you hear ad infinitum on Top-40’s radio. Now, add to that same non-specific act a lead lady vocalist that has a voice on par with Billie Holiday. Back that superb voice up with instrumentalists hungry to deliver something that sounds new and exciting to the world, subtract the pretentiousness and insincerity of modern music, and cube the equation with infinite collective creativity and genuine inspiration. What you are left with is the almighty and immortal Portishead. As English as roast beef and hailing from Bristol, this group hasn’t made an album in about fifteen years and only technically lives on through ultra-rare live performances. In just under two decades from the mid-90’s to 2008, this group managed to produce not mere music, but genuine lightning-in-a-bottle magic. The members were all very motivated by old timey film soundtrack LP’s, leaving a lot of their tracks sounding like a tune from a film noire. Whether they liked it or not, they had a major hand in popularizing trip-hop, a highly experimental genre (in the 90’s anyway) which relies heavily on hip hop tempos mixed with soul, jazz, funk, or whatever form of electronic music you want to throw into the fusion. This was also a band that just kind of burned out; despite their notoriety and mega-successful presence in the industry, the members of this collective were just fallible people at the end of the day, and apparently suffered from extreme exhaustion by way of constantly recording and touring. If you spent your time in studios cranking out some of the highest quality music available at the time, you’d be exhausted too. This is Biscuit from 1994’s Dummy, and it is merely one of many, many outstanding works from their contemplative, well-executed and downright industry-changing catalog. Truly quality music (just like any quality entertainment; movies, television, art, etc.) should reveal something true and perhaps tragic about the human condition. Portishead excelled in this area. It doesn’t matter if they were only around for a moment in time. Their music is TIMELESS.

I don’t generally post many ultra-famous acts on this page unless given a motivation. Here’s my motivation; Portishead changed music on the planet Earth forever. They’re more goth than the whole of modern goth music. They’re trippy-er than the entirety of trip-hop. And, if anything you do in your life has 1/10th the positive impact on the globe as this here musical act, you, my friend, have earned my respect for merely existing. The minute Doe had walked out the door, Astarion had been kicking himself for letting her go so soon. But he knew they needed one another. Gale needed to see her alive and well, to breathe her in and hold her close; and Doe needed his gentle, reassuring touch, and to hear the words of his anguish from his own tongue. After all that had happened, there was no way they could move on without Doe knowing about the marid and his magic. 

But the minutes after Doe’s departure had been torturous. The heat of her blood had seared through him after days of his hunger, turning ravenous at the sight of her bleeding palm. It had taken everything in him to exercise restraint, especially when she’d offered herself so willingly. His body sang as he drank, the fusion of blood and whiskey utterly intoxicating – and then, another hunger had taken over. 

For some time, Astarion had paced and prowled around the room – a feral animal trapped within an iron cage. It was all he could do to breathe through it, to estrange his ears from her fading footsteps and the muffled voices from below the floorboards of his quarters. He’d picked up a leather-bound journal, but soon became disinterested; then, had tried to tidy things up in anticipation of Doe’s return. Noticing the ink staining his fingers, he’d charged for the wash basin on the opposite end of the room, scrubbing his hands furiously in the tepid water, in time with the pace of his thundering heart. 

And then, the captain sat for quite a long time. 

When the exhaustion had finally caught up and settled, his limbs felt heavy. That tipsy, leaden satisfaction had been enough to him peace, coupled with knowing that Doe had been alright. 

But rest – the rest had come from her confession. 

“I’m in love with you.” 

“You’re safe with me.” 

Her voice echoed through his mind and lulled him into a dazed slumber, slinking back along the chaise, his calmed breathing the only sound. 

Doe takes in the sight of the captain sleeping, feeling a gentle surge of tenderness for his mussed curls and peaceful expression. Quietly, she unlaces her dress, still wrapped in tendrils of smoke and cherry, and steps out of it. After long moments deliberating, she tosses it into the fire, the scent of the devil consumed by the greedy flames.

Tiptoeing, she draws herself a bath, cringing at the sound of the water as it splashes into the tub. She steps in, settling into the steam and heat, scrubbing with soap to get her own scent back; the cambion's overwhelmed her, curling into her hair and settling into her skin.

With the argument out of her system, the confession still hanging in the air, she feels true peace, sighing in contentment as she watches the dress turn to embers.

'Life starts now,' she murmurs softly to herself. 'Here, at home...'

Whiskers is an undead skeleton that was revived by an old couple (old as in were together a long time not age actually). They were buried a long, long time ago and their memory suffered from it. They were meant to be an example of what happens when someone is revived to the point where they remember nothing of their past. No wistful amnesia, no NOTHING.

They didn't have any siblings for a long time and were content with their parents. Hmm the old couple lives in the woods (maybe) They weren't taught how to do magic and the couple keeps them in the dark about their origins. They dont know that theyre different not because they were "born" that way but because well, they are practically a zombie

They are part cat part... human? and something else (wings). Their magic doesn't support flight (anymore) and they mainly use their wings to hide or knock things over on accident. They are extremely cuddly and suffers from a core feeling of loneliness and worthlessness. They are not aware of that yet they always make an effort to be of service or to be "useful"

Biscuit is actually meant to be in the Undertale universe! Don't know her role though! Oops! Probably adventures with Butters since I made their designs to bounce off each other? Butter and Cookies? Food stuffs? yeah

He was probably dumped onto Cherish during their universe becoming the housing place for the insane and misguided. He is also a literal child, a little baby if you will. Oh and theyre like... a fusion of some animal (legs) but WHO knows what. She is kind of just. growing up through the chaos and is passed around by the adults (you take care of her , no WAY this kid is creepy as HELL , please please i need to uh um be somewhere???) and she has... vibes. again, dont know what. their universe was probably really simple and sweet, monsters mostly focusing on baking foods with humans that like, killing them.

Locket was sketched alongside two other characters! Cherry and Berry. Literally born to be a background character lmao uh. They mostly stay at home with their three dogs and is SEETHING about the Berry Twins dying their white dog's fur. Yeah they got it washed out but STILL. They are the victim of their many pranks and unintentionally became an older sibling figure to them.

They aren't very nice and acts very "up there". Might just canonically make them a tumblr user </3 The heart locket is actually from their mom who is rarely home but loves her child very much i assure you. they love their mom too.

they have an inflated ego but clams up around authority figures. they would threaten some kid with a knife but the MOMENT an adult shows up it's all sweetness and compliancy. no you may not have the knife.

their magic manifests in the gradients and "blush" on their bones. that's normal in this universe for skeletons. they dont have any interests in fighting and would rather be at home reading fanfic.

The taste blooms on her tongue—a memory she never had.

Tuesday: Lost in Translation Betty navigates the labyrinthine streets, her Japanese fluency a patchwork quilt of phrases. She stumbles upon a cat café, where feline eyes regard her with ancient wisdom. She orders a latte and pets a calico named Tora. The café owner winks, as if knowing her secret. Betty wonders: Is she the only quantum convert?

Wednesday: Harajuku Fashionista Betty embraces her new identity. She shops at Takeshita Street, donning Lolita dresses and fishnet stockings. Her reflection surprises her—a fusion of Betty and Tokyo’s spirit. She poses for photos with tourists, their smiles genuine. She’s no longer an outsider; she’s part of the Shibuya crossing, a pixel in the city’s heartbeat.

Thursday: Shrine Whispers At Meiji Shrine, Betty prays for clarity. The torii gates frame her uncertainty. She asks the kami: Why her? The wind rustles the sacred trees, and a paper fortune flutters—a mix of kanji and English. “Embrace the ephemeral,” it reads. Betty laughs. She’s living a haiku, seventeen syllables of wonder.

Friday: Neon Dreams Betty dances at a techno club, her pulse synced to the neon strobes. She meets Yuki, a fellow quantum traveler. They share stories over sake—Yuki from Birmingham, Alabama, Betty from Chicago. They laugh about their borrowed lives, the transient magic. Yuki whispers, “We’re stardust, Biju-san. Here today, gone tomorrow.”

Saturday: The Farewell As the week wanes, Betty stands at the quantum machine. Its hum beckons her back to Illinois. She gazes at Harajuku’s lights—their ephemeral brilliance. Yuki hugs her, and they exchange email addresses. “Remember,” Yuki says, “Tokyo lives in you now.”

And so, Betty steps into the quantum stream, her heart a constellation of memories. Chicago awaits, but Tokyo lingers—a neon imprint on her soul. She boards the plane, her bow slightly askew, and whispers, “Sayonara, Harajuku.”

The science group’s experiment succeeded: Betty Jane Smith, once a foreigner, leaves Tokyo as a citizen of dreams.

Flowers and Butterflies, My thoughts on The Answer's Opening

Spoilers obviously

The Red Spider Lillies on that Opening, it's next to Cherry Blossoms as a Flower manages to capture the themes of Persona 3 perfectly, even if he's gone life goes on.

Makoto walking through them is meant to be him passing on to the afterlife.

Speaking of cherry blossoms we have a shot of A Cherry Blossom Petal at the end as both a callback to the rooftop scene as well as to foreshadow them eventually moving on from the past.

From my Aikoto doc:

The meaning behind these flowers can be found in that cherry blossoms take two weeks to grow and are whisked away by the spring winds as they blossom They are ephemeral plants, meaning that they last for only a short period of time. Therefore, they are the perfect metaphor for mortality. I do not believe this is not the intention of the developers how much the cherry blossoms resonate with Persona 3’s theme.

We have flowers that symbolize both Parting and a New beginning, appropriately enough appearing at the beginning and the end of the opening.

And Episode Aigis is all about that transitional period between those two, The grieving, how everybody needs to move on and not let the pain of his death burden them, that is easier said than done especially for Aigis.

As the one closest to Makoto her humanity was brought upon by her learning about life, making precious bonds especially with him.

The blue butterfly here could symbolize two things Aigis's humanity, how Metis is born from her wishing it away after losing Makoto the one that had brought out the best in her it vanishing along with the scene, making this open a symbolic retelling of the scene where Aigis is running after him in her dreams or her role now as the wild card similar to the butterflies in the save points of P4 and PQ.

Humanity

First let's discuss her humanity since I found it to be the more interesting symbolism.

The butterfly is shown following him before transitioning to her waking up the moment shortly after when she stopped dreaming, and she cried, which i believe to be the catalyst event that resulted in the creation of Metis and the drawing of the Abyss of Time.

This is the dream she had before the beginning of the opening.

And at the end the butterfly meets with Aigis again. Even though it vanished along with Makoto it foreshadows at the end where Aigis's body was unable to handle the wild card yet she still returns her original personality intact ready to face the future with the rest of her friends.

She regretted casting away her humanity just because it hurts, she regrets not being able to attend his funeral and shutting herself from the others when they were mourning him.

After reuniting with Metis, she embraced her Humanity and started to cry, at the end of the OP, the butterfly that followed Makoto returned to Aigis making her human once more.

Wild Card

The Blue butterfly following Makoto could doubly mean something much simpler it's her being passed on the ability of the wild card, The answer has made it clear that Aigis didn't just awaken to the wild card but she has HIS wild card, she has his velvet room, his attendant, his compendium, his fusion spells (a trait unique to Makoto) and all of the personas within it belong to Makoto.

Even though he is gone, He lives on within her, and her Awakening is very special (She awakens to Makoto's Orpheus, this is the only time in Persona where the same Persona is awakened to twice) The butterfly coming back to Aigis is Makoto imparting his will onto her and because he trusts her to protect his friends and loves her so much and because Aigis is the one that felt the strongest towards him that she could have that power, no matter what way you read it, Makoto and Aigis were intimate in the Journey but In The Answer they are eternally connected.

Cherry Jubilee x Stolas fusion

Soo, I am apparently continuing that Doctor Strange/Cardcaptor crossover/fusion thing I had...

He found the book in a library. Bright pink with gold edging, it was definitely out of place amongst the medical journals. He reached for it. It was heavier than it looked. He put it on the stack and placed another journal on top of it. It wasn't like anyone would be looking at this reading choices, but it was still embarrassing to be carrying around a pink book at his age.

Even though he had used up all of his connections and was probably blacklisted in the medical field, he still read the journals. It hurt, but the pain was worth the continuous knowledge. He looked at them like puzzles, challenged himself to come to the conclusions before the studies did. It kept his mind off other things.

He could feel the universe around him, but every time he reached for its energy he hit the wall. The Master's had bound his magic. He hadn't protested. It was the bill coming due, as Mordo had said. The world was safe from Dormammu and that was all that mattered.

He found a table, set the stack down, and removed the journals stacked on top. Sakura stared up at him from the front cover. Cherry blossom. He actually knew what those were. Christine had mentioned wanting to go down to DC to see their cherry blossoms once. It was a thing apparently.

The front cover was a lion with wings. It was wearing some kind of headpiece, with a red gem on its forehead. There was no other text on the cover. He hadn't seen anything like it in Kamar-Taj, but the library was vast and he hadn't even gone through a fourth of it. Should he contact them or at least Wong? Wong was Master of the New York Sanctum now wasn't he? No, it was unlikely anyone would listen to him. It probably wasn't even magic, probably some a misplaced book from the children's section. He should put it on one of the carts labeled reshelving.

Instead, he reached for the wing-shaped clasp and opened it.

Folk Magic Band - s/t LP (Jazz Al Folkstudio) - Black Sweat Records reissue of 1976 LP - the "magic" is some spirited free jazz!

Folk Magic Band represents one of the most interesting and original, yet lesser-known experiences of the italian jazz scene of the 1970s. In the legendary alternative environment of the Folk Studio in Rome, an open 18-members lineup is inspired by the free jazz of its time, a music that encompasses the whole world and its polychromy of sound. The echo seems to resonate the pan-ethnic motifs of Don Cherry and his Organic Music Society, but also the spiritual jazz of Pharoas Sanders and the orchestrations of the Sun Ra Arkestra. The textures chase a chinese melody, ignite with african scents and south american jungles, flow into fusion violin drifts a la Archie Shepp's Attic Blues or Mingus-like orchestral sections. The fascination of this collective affair still strikes for its playful and ironic nature, still impressing for its strength and willingness to open and influence new directions.
