i’m making this list of plots i’ve been wanting to do along with fcs i’m down to use/want to play against. if you want to plot together, send over a dm! you can definitely like this too, but sometimes i just forget to check the notes. my about me is here and my rules are here. i’m very bored, so i’m super active at the moment. * means i really need :))
plots
* a pop star and her backup guitarist/tour manager/opening act/some sort of somebody that would be on tour. cute flirtation during rehearsals. tour bus antics. late night kisses on the balcony of a hotel room under the moonlight. paparazzi catching the loving gazes. rumors starting to swirl. just yes.
literally any musician/normal person plot pls
i want a plot where a fan sneaks into a concert by claiming s/he’s one of the band member’s girlfriends (or boyfriends) and the security asks the band member and they’re like yeah we’re dating even though they’re noT AND THEY BECOME LIKE A GROUPIE AND HOOK UP BACKSTAGE OK
muse a and muse b have been paranormal investigators for years, they spend their time speaking about the supernatural world & performing house calls. the two come face to face with a heinous haunting and it has now become their job to expel the spirits from that house. and just when they think they’re finished, they realized the spirit has followed them home.
modern bonnie and clyde x
* plot based off robbers by the 1975. 1975 robbers inspired plot with two people living off the little money they have and what they knick from the gas stations they rob. super romantic road trips, dangerous robberies, sentimental nights on their floor bed.
small musician who plays at little venues and the bartender start getting involved and have a cute romance while the musician begins to grow.
pirate captain (f) and captain of the navy (m) fall for each other after they’ve been playing cat and mouse for months when they come face to face once again and one of them is severely injured. the other helps the injured and their relationship continues to change.
two actors or musicians, one’s younger and the other is more of a veteran who’s lost their spark. the older one is increasingly jealous of the other who has been winning all the awards lately, and now they have to work together on a project like an album or movie.
* tbh i kind of want a plot based around two celebs whose characters are a ship in the show they’re on and the’ve always been really close friends, always goofing off behind the scenes and having a grand old time, and are crazy comfortable aroud each other but then the time comes where they have to do a sex scene and it’s like a revelation of “wow they’re really good looking… their hands feel so nice on my skin like this…their lips are so warm and soft… they’re good at kissing….i wonder what this would be like if it were real” and it gets really awkward/cute and they always get flustered around each other because they can’t stop thinking about it and PLEASE
please come at me with some phantom of the opera or old timey forbidden love 1800s type of shit because i live for it and i want to make edits of our eventual ships with photoshop that i just cracked. xoxo i’m a good writer i swear. my rules and about page are on my page, and i have a discord if you’d like to talk or write on there!
oh to be an aggressive hockey guy who gets into fights during matches and has to be patched up afterwords by the exasperated medic who has a soft spot for me who’s always telling me to be careful and sometimes we fight over my reckless attitude and maybe it gets heated one night and the medic yells “i care about you asshole!!” and i need to reevaluate our every single interaction
bodyguard/celeb plot
plot based off killing eve !!
1700s witch and witch hunter
* older mob boss or whatever who runs a few money laundering business falls in love with a 20-something year old bartender at one of his bars

12.27 ring & birthday dinner at brix and mortar w/ jyang
12.28 skated alone, worked out, baked & dindin at botanist
looking back at it now, i definitely went out a lot more compared to previous years LOL i had some struggles in january, and at multiple points in my life i blamed myself for being ungrateful, for seeking more when i already had so much in life compared to other people. my friends were there for me and i wouldnt have been able to live through it without them. then again, during reading break in february, i got myself into the same hot mess and i was sad about it for a week and i blamed myself for getting so attached so quickly. because of these experiences, my expectations were v low and i didnt really expect anything when i talked to jyang, what they say really is true, you get it the moment you stop seeking for it. it comes and find you (: the 3 most important that happened this year is burbur, co op job & me getting more comfortable around doggs; this is a big deal !! i actually like cuddling dogs and i feel less scared of them as long as i have some time to get used to them!! im proud of myself for making progress with my phobia! after i started my co op job, bc i didnt have a lot to do, i felt like i wasnt actively contributing to my workplace and that i was very useless. i still feel the same way now, but i think i am slowly getting used to it. thankfully, my coworkers are VERY nice and i enjoy working around them. while i did not get a different position for january, im still grateful that i got an extended placement. nonetheless, meeting with the different PIs and sumeet pointed me in the right direction of looking for nserc / volunteering opportunities when i do go back to school. AND ofc burbur! im grateful that we were able to be there for each other for the past 8 months, both the ups and downs and i am so so thankful that we’re understanding and patient with each other, as we help each other learn along the way and help each other become a better version of ourselves. this companionship is better than i have asked for and i always remind myself to focus on the important things rather than the minor inconveniences. this year, in terms of fitness goals, ive been doing really well before asia. but ever since i came back, it all went downhill and i gained back all the weight that i lost this year year LOL so in 2020, one of my biggest goal is to eat healthy again, and workout more consistently. getting a job in sept kinda interfered with my progress too, bc i was so tired after work, even when i wasnt doing anything and i stressed eat bc i felt terrible. a lot of diff factors made me feel super stressed, and the fact that i wasnt eating clean / exercising reguarly made me feel worse about the whole situation ): so in 2020, maintaining a healthy lifestyle will be one of my top priorities and gifting myself a healthy body is one of greatest things i can do for myself. this also contributed to the lack of journalling near the end of the year, it felt like bc i wasnt doing the things i was “supposed to do”, i just felt so bad whenever i couldnt tick off that particular habit whenever i fill in my trackers. but tonight, i watched this video and it talked about habits should be for awareness, not for self-hate or self-loathing. this is something that i need to keep in mind. ever since april really, the issue of leaving my house and meeting up with my friends have always stressed me in fear of dealing with passive aggressiveness with my mom lool everytime i get inviited to plans, i just get anxiety about having to tell her about it LOL and even when im out, having a msg/ call for her freaks me out in fear that she will get mad at me for being home late and etc and fifi really woke me up with her words, i should just care less LOL i need to stop caring so much about what she thinks, bc at the end of the day, this IS my life and if i never make any changes, i will never be able to grow and be independent. i think this pree much sums up all my events and emotions in 2019, the last year of the 2010s. in the next decade, a lot of things will happen as i will be in my 20s - 30s, where new opportunities will arise, and graduate uni, do my masters, find a job, maybe even marry and move out LOL the 2020s will definitely be an impt decade, but just for next year i want to:
1. understand that i am old enough to make choices, and in general, care less about what she thinks
2. at the same time, i want to appreciate and be grateful for what my mom, dad and annie have done for me; a lot of the times, i feel like i take them for granted just bc i know they will always be there for me and this is not how you should treat your biggest supporters
3. trust that everything will workout in the end, while you may not be able to envision what you career / life would be like when youre 30, you can definitely take small steps and move towards your goal
4. be mindful of what i eat and exercise regularly (4x hiit & cardio a week) ; treats & sweets in moderation; use those habit trackers for awareness, not for self-loathing / self-hate

every year, time just seems to go by faster and faster and i feel scared at times. as i type this, theres only 8 minutes left of this decade LOL so in 2020, continue to live in the moment, be present, cherish those that are around you, and have faith that everything will come together, one piece at a time. at the same time, always rmb that you can make small changes to be a better version of yourself, whenever & however you want and this is the 1 thing that other people can’t stop you from doing!
oh friday. we love a fredag in this house. this was the one day i had plans, and by “i had plans” i mean i tagged along for haidee and nadège’s plans because they were in oslooooo! they were flying in later that morning, so i had some time to spend on my own, which was good. i took my sweet ol’ time eating breakfast, looking out the window and hoping for the clouds to part, a ray of sun to appear, anything. but no. it remained quite dark most of the day, and the light you see in the photos is mostly due to editing in instagram. there was also a pretty constant drizzle that remained from the day before, but i wasn’t going to let that stop me. i had a city to explore!
so, naturally, i went back to the opera house, my most visited location outside of my hotel room in all of my trips combined. it was a bit too windy to deal with my travel umbrella so that went back into my backpack after the second time it blew inside out. i walked over to the harbor to see if, perhaps, the view was better over the water. it was not. but i climbed up the opera house steps anyway, because at least i could walk off breakfast. it was strange because i was the only one up there, but it was also shit weather and not much of a view (again), so i just figured i would enjoy having the place to myself (was the opera house closed? mayhaps.). and enjoy it i did, because i managed to slip and fall at the top! i was done climbing, it wasn’t even any kind of incline…i was just distracted trying to take a photo of the non-view and my feet were like “okay let’s make a break for it!” and they most certainly did. now i love my alone time, being able to experience the world without the pressure of existing in it, but i really loved my alone time just then, when my body decided to stop standing. feet went up, ass went down, i probably screamed, and then i posted about it on instagram, like you do. the tradition of climbing up the opera house in the winter and then eating it was alive and well.
i held on to the wall as i climbed back down.
then i walked around the harbor, hoping the light rain would soak enough of the rest of my pants as to disguise how wet my ass was. i went to the salt…area? installation? i’m not sure how to describe it. the other side of the harbor. just because it was a location i’d seen in a bunch of norwegian instagram stories and i had to see these t-shirts for myself. it was cool. i was slightly distracted because i was going low at that point, had walked off too much of my breakfast in fact, and only had a packet of gushers in my backpack for a sugar boost. so i moved on to an apotek to find glucose tablets.
i changed pump systems back at the end of august, adding a cgm and increasing my insulin usage by like…500%. my previous two trips were done on an old, dying pump and barely any bolusing or glucose monitoring, so this was my first trip where i was actively using insulin and keeping my numbers in range. this is a good thing, of course, but it was also new and a distraction and created dangerous situations for myself as i insisted on walking back and forth across the city center. i struggled to count carbohydrates with the different nutrition information on the food i bought (y’all what’s the point of telling me how many carbs are in 100 g of food if i can’t tell how much food is in the container?). i mean, i did okay, because i’ve been eyeballing this shit since i was twelve, but my new system relies heavily on accurate carb counts and boluses. if i don’t give it the right information, it has to compensate with the basal rate, and those automatic adjustments were not jiving with my bursts of activity. ugh, okay, well this was all just a weird venting aside and explanation for what i did in my down time: struggle.
in some flash of unusual foresight, i had kept the empty tube of glucose tablets and was able to show that to the pharmacist so she could do the translating for me. i would’ve cooed over the norwegian version of my tablets if i had the mental capacity in that moment, but i had to eat some first before i could even navigate my bag to find my wallet to pay for them. i was blessedly alone in this pharmacy as well, so only this one lady had to witness me dumping my damp backpack out on the floor to find a fuckin’ credit card. anyway, crisis averted. i chomped on raspberry-flavored sugar as i walked back to the hotel. whatever parts of me hadn’t gotten wet from the rain were now soaked through with my sweat so i had to dry off before the main event.
haidee had arranged for a late lunch for us at ett bord, so i met her and nadège there, along with margaux and charlotte. it was so lovely reconnecting with my girls and meeting new ones, and talking about the show of course but also learning about their regular lives as well. i don’t have much to compare it to, but it always feels so easy meeting strangers because even if we never interacted online, we still have this same source material that, at this point, courses through our veins. we talked about the show and fic and the con of course, since half of us were attending it the next day. i took a picture of the quiche that haidee had ordered because i…did not know that was quiche. and then maybe halfway through lunch i shit my pants?
or whatever it is that my body did when it heard henrik’s voice over my shoulder. maybe it was the opposite of shitting my pants. maybe i was clenching too hard because i felt like my heart was going to fall out of my ass. yeah, that.
our end of the table went silent. i was the last to realize what was going on because i had angled my body to face everyone else so i couldn’t see him enter or sit down. but i heard his voice and i froze and i hated myself for it.
we managed to get talking and eating again like the adult human beings we are. i think a couple were sat between our group and henrik then so it felt like there was a buffer and i could relax a bit. siv came over to chat and we were #exposed as fans (though if the chick clenching so tight she was about to eat the stool with her ass wasn’t a tip off then…) but i think we remained chill? i hope we did? i was still functioning well enough to use a fork so there was that, at least. and the food was good! i cleared my plate.
but then that fucker decided to come over to our group and say hi before he left, exhibiting the kindness and hospitality he’s known for at this point, and ugh. how dare he. i did not consent to death, thank you very much, yet there i was, clenching and dying.
i don’t know how to explain it without sounding rude and ungrateful, so i guess i’m being rude and ungrateful. but it did feel…violating? if only because i thought the screen that had always separated me from him as an actor was still in place. i realize i was in his city, in his family’s restaurant, and i was at this place of my own volition, but i still expected that wall to remain intact. i’d been to the restaurant twice before without coming into contact with his family, or been identified as a skam fan. i had assumed it would happen again. i had assumed those involved with the convention would be busy elsewhere with that, or hiding from it as long as they could. the restaurant is weirdly an established fan attraction, and thus far i’d been able to enjoy it without that association, and i had naively thought it would remain that way even on the eve of such a large fan event. but i’m a goddamn fool, and henrik is a very generous host.
he left. i unclenched. i think everyone else was simply delighted by the chance meeting and excited for the weekend to come because that’s why they were there. they were there to be skam fans. and i guess i…wasn’t? even though i’ve been struggling with my identity as anything but a skam fan, here i was, at the heart of the show, trying to deny it. ugh.
anyway, marie joined us as we were finishing up and from there we all walked to the convention location so they could register in advance. i met up with jenn there, and then we just bounced around until it was time for the play. we went to an atm, then to a christmas market, then to tanum on a sudden, exciting hunt for books, then to the theatre! and finally, finally, surrounded by blonde children who only came up to my waist, i got to hug kit. third time’s the charm, bitch.
then it was time for snøfall! we were seated painfully close to the stage because in my enthusiasm over the summer i had chosen some aggressive seating. on top of that actors were entering the stage from the aisle and the wing right in front of us, so while it was a funny and sweet story, i was legitimately frightened multiple times throughout as residents of snøfall ran right past us. but it was a fun show to watch, and the singing was impressive. i got to tune my ear to more norwegian, and of course, see tarjei. i loved the whole atmosphere of it, because it reminded me of my own family’s christmas tradition as a child, going to see the nutcracker at lincoln center. and holy shit, the set design was amazing? i barely looked at the program but at the end we stood in the lobby and tried to figure out who was responsible for choreographing such detailed settings in a very mechanical yet elegant way (i think it’s gjermund andresen and christer berg, fyi).
it was a wholly enjoyable performance, riiiiight up until a tarjei stan ran up to the stage to hand him flowers. he had to step out of the bows to accept them, which felt rude to the actual stars of the play and the children actors, but i didn’t catch their actual reactions because i was busy dying, again. i slid down in my seat hoping to melt into the floor but alas. #exposed.
we left. no one had a plan (welcome to the club) so we wandered to the christmas market. then we figured we needed dinner, so we walked over to grünerløkka to a place jenn had on her list. they were too busy for drop-ins, but their host kindly directed us to another restaurant with a similar vibe. at this point we’d done quite a bit of walking and were getting hungry, so when we spotted a bislett kebab on the way we decided to just give up and grab something there instead. it didn’t really matter to me, because food is food (and at least i was familiar with this food since i’d had it a couple of times last winter!). i would keep walking for hours as long as we were talking, but it was good to finally rest. i think it made me realize how tired i was, and i wasn’t even coming off of a morning of travel like everyone else. we split off after dinner and i collapsed back at the hotel. what a day.
before i go though, i just need to say that the best part of all of this was listening to margaux, charlotte, marie, nadège, jenn, and haidee talk about fic. i think they talked more about fic and the characters than the actual show, which makes sense, because that’s the most active part of the fandom (this was before the bloopers announcement). they were talking about what was still so alive for them, what they were keeping alive with their own stories and comments, and i just want to…i don’t know, give them credit? these women are amazing. they are why i impulse-bought tickets back in august, so i would have an excuse to see them again, and meet more like them, and attempt to show support in return. they are pursuing what they love, accomplishing so much, honing their own skills and supporting the talents of others. as much as i am ashamed of being one myself, i love how they are fans. i admire their lack of shame and their abundance of respect. they were on a trip, thoroughly enjoying themselves, and it was just comforting and affirming to watch them be relatable and wonderful human beings treating themselves to a fun weekend (what they deserve). i wonder, when i grow up, if i could be like them someday.
Dag 1: Buelenhorn.
Heraankleden was nodig.
Dag 2: Mount TiTi
Dag 3: Schwarzhorn
We startten iets vroeger.
Laatste dag, dag 5. Älplihorn
Kuiten waren stijf deze ochtend. Pannenkoeken for breakfast.
We waren voldaan.
skitouren is sport zonder competitie.

Paris Waterfront Restaurants: 10Best WatersideRestaurant Reviews
While elegant dining is always a good idea, in the warmer months in Paris, sit-down, indoor restaurants are less popular than guingettes. Guingettes are a sort of tavern as we knew them back in the day. The food is served as almost an afterthought since drinking, hanging out watching a televised game and even dancing are really the ‘plat du jour’ at these venues. A couple of big, fun guinguettes have popped up recently in Paris, notably Le Grand Bleu. And while Les Maquereaux isn’t a traditional guinguette, since it’s a barge docked right on the river, alongside the Quai Hotel de Ville, it more or less serve as one, too.
A classic dining option in Paris is a dinner riverboat cruise. You just can’t imagine how breath taking the scenery along the banks of the River Seine is – the Ȋle-St.-Louis, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the yachts parked across from Jardin des Plantes, and more – until you’ve actually seen it with your own eyes from the river! Add the sparkle of sunset and twinkling stars, or the twinkling Eiffel Tower which sparkles in the evenings on the hour, to that scenic panorama and you have the makings of one unforgettable evening. For a twist on the theme, head on over to La Défense and dine “waterfront” next to the Bassin Takis at Octopus.
For a kick-off-your-heels experience, head on down towards the riverfront area just in front of the Ile St. Louis. Here you can sit, sip and watch the boats go by at the Brasserie de L’Isle Saint-Louis. Or go down below to the quay where you will find yet another stretch of casual dining options, like Mr. Pelican, Les Maquereaux, Chez Daniel and others. Always packed on weekend afternoons, the Quai Hotel de Ville even has outdoor swing dancing (not obligatory, but certainly optional). The food here at these venues is outdoor bbq style and fresh oysters, accompanied by chilled bottles of wine or cocktails like the famous Apero Spritzer. This is a group-friendly option and absolutely perfect when the weather is good and a bit of live music is the order of the day.
An elegant and haute cuisine pick on this list is Table du Flow. This restaurant offers direct views onto the Pont Alexandre III and the Grand Palais, both enhanced by the rays of the setting sun. Flow is a barge that is parked along the Seine, the fanciest one on this area just below the Alexander III Bridge. On the top floor is a bar that boasts the aforementioned views but also includes the Eiffel Tower. Below is a nightclub. And outside, along the riverbanks is their casual dining. This restaurant, however, is anything but casual so expect outstanding wine lists, superior dining and French class.
For waterfront dining in Paris, the Central Paris water views are the River Seine, Port de l’Arsenal and the Canal St. Martin. The Canal St. Martin area is the place to be for hipsters. The Port de l’Arsenal now has the refurbished Le Grand Bleu and La Seine boasts a riverfront pedestrian area that spans both sides, Rive Gauche and Rive Droite. These have been turned into kilometers-long pedestrian areas welcoming families, bicyclists, sunbathers and picnickers. This is the perfect place to stop and grab a refreshment at Faust near Invalides on the Rive Gauche side of Berges de Seine.
This isn’t where you’ll find frou-frou food. No, here is where you’ll get your traditional poulet-frites (roast chicken and fries) and your beers on tap. Brasserie, of course, is the traditional French term for ‘brewery’ and at this family-owned brasserie, you’ll find nothing but authentic French.
Its location has you in the heart of Paris, right on the Western tip of the picturesque, and legendary, Ile St. Louis. People watching is as fun here as sipping something iced and diving into a big salad or a more robust dish from the basic menu.
Enjoy the views here as much as the food and be sure to appreciate that you are sitting in the midst of where historical legends and the famous (Baudelaire, Marie Curie, Helena Rubinstein), from literally every walk of life, have also leisurely lolled and spent their precious time.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: People watching isn’t on the menu but it’s certainly a main course at this location. On either side of you is the River Seine.
Paige’s expert tip: Authentically French? It doesn’t get any more authentic than this family-owned cafe-brasserie here next to the Seine on the famous Ile St. Louis.

Waterfront dining at its best – cruising the Seine River lunch or dinner. This is one of those occasions when the rule of thumb, “you get what you pay for” doesn’t apply. The food here is all cooked fresh on board and is occasionally even prepared by a Michelin-starred chef (ask at booking for this special calendared event). For example dinner choices are salmon served with lemon and dill sauce or poultry “supreme” served with tarragon sauce and oyster mushrooms. The dinner or brunch cruise itself lasts an hour and fifteen minutes so it’s an excursion that is brief and to the point. The boat is sleek and comfortable with no comfort or luxury sacrificed. For these prices, you could get either a meal at a bistro or a cruise along the Seine, but here you get both.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: It’s great to have options. This is one of those quality options, offered by a smart entrepreneur, that easily fits into a tight time budget.
Paige’s expert tip: Truly one of the best deals for dinner in Paris. Never mind that you get a great cruise along the Seine, too. The meal is memorable and Michelin-starred chef quality. Bonus: you get to have that romantic cruise along the Seine just as the sky twinkles into night time.

One of the best features about this newly created all-pedestrian zone along the banks of the River Seine, is that they have instantly been outfitted with dozens of eating establishments.
So, even though myriad groups of people still pack their aperitif picnic baskets of cherry tomatoes, coldcuts, cheeses and chilled bottles of wine before heading down to this idyllic zone of leisure, you no longer need to.
Because now there are dozens of super choices for food and drink on both sides of the river. From the Pont Des Arts to down past the Pont Marie; and from the Musee d’Orsay all the way down to the Eiffel Tower, you will find little riverside cafes, creperies, bars and lots of chairs and outdoor seating.
This area has become one vast outdoor leisure zone, replete with satisfying choices for food and drink.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: This leisure zone now offers dozens of affordable food and snacking choices, with gorgeous views to boot.
Paige’s expert tip: No matter what you have a taste for, you will find it here on this vast pedestrian zone that now welcomes people along the banks of the Seine. Either sit at one of the cafes or take some treats to go. Plenty of cold drinks available, too (and even hot drinks for the colder weather).

You can take your street-vendor like food to go and sit inside Faust at their tables to enjoy it, or wander to the other side of the entrance where there is now a permanently installed outside bar where you can sip and nibble.
While the interior is reserved mostly for clubbing and occasionally for dining these days, the outdoor seating is used as both a dining and drinking area. And be sure to check their FB page for updates as flashmobs of 300 and more gather to toast one another in this Paris hotspot on the banks of the Seine.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: Starting your evening here with drinks out on the terrace overlooking the Seine is an utterly cinematic way to begin an oh-so-Parisian night of revelry.
Paige’s expert tip: While the bar outside, in good weather, offers riverbank dining, just under the historic landmark bridge of Pont Alexandre III, you will find Faust. Though the restaurant has transformed into a club-only, the tables inside still offer views from their panoramic windows out onto the river just beside it.

Brand new and with striking views of the Eiffel Tower, this modern-chic venue has you dining in ultra-good vibrations. Literally. Here you are inside the Maison de La Radio France which is the building that houses dozens of recording rooms, concert stages and other high-tech spaces where France’s prime radio shows are recorded and broadcast.
The cuisine here is Asian-fusion so expect delights such as caramelized chicken served wrapped in a banana leaf with sticky rice and fresh pineapple. Or expect delicate slices of lamb served with an eggplant satay.
A plentiful selection of fresh fruit juices compliment your meals, such as carrot-orange-ginger. Lunch time offers a practical set menu of the chef’s creation which will have you in and out and satisfied in time for that afternoon conference call.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: Finally a restaurant at the Maison Radio France. This second floor venue sports a chic decor and Asian-fusion cuisine.
Paige’s expert tip: Open for both lunch and dinner, now the in-the-know Maison de la Radio concert goers have a reason to linger before and after the concerts. There is, worth noting too, a bar upstairs that is open in the evenings now and also offers breathtaking River Seine and Eiffel Tower views.

The La Defense neighborhood of Paris is known for its high rise skyscraper buildings and its modern, NYC feel. With this kind of landscape, it isn’t surprising that there are tens of thousands of office workers who all need to chill with a refreshing drink after work before wrestling with the crowds on the metro.
Octopus, a partnership between the venerable Maison Rostang and the hipster Liquid Corporation, is now an integral part of this equation. It’s located just next to the Bassin Takis, a shallow city block large wading pool that emanates a refreshing mist baths every few minutes. The freshwater mist is so thick that only it clears can you see the dozens of children frolicking in the shallow pool in summertime.
On the menu here are cocktails and small bites. Your choice of over 35 small plates include signatures like sardine club sandwich, oysters, fried cheese nuggets and crispy crab cakes. Their signature cocktails are all adventurous and there’s also beer on tap and a good selection of wines.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: Sometimes, like during summer heatwaves, the best thing to do is get near a nice big expanse of refreshing water.
Paige’s expert tip: For mains, you can have the signature lobster macaroni, a Rostang specialty, and also a choice of steak, chicken or fish. Dessert selections include Sophie’s chocolate cake, since the esteemed chef Rostang’s daughters have followed in his footsteps. And not to miss is the orange coulis creme brulee. When you’re looking for a NYC feel here in Paris, and a fun soundtrack-infused watering hole that welcomes Parisians looking to bridge work and home commutes, this is a chill place to come and nibble/sip.

Under the helm of Chef Geoffrey Rembert (La Tour d’Argent, Bristol) this oasis in a thriving hotspot offers gastronomic dining seasoned with breathtaking views over the Pont Alexander III, le Grand Palais and the gorgeous river Seine.
Choose this for an elegant evening out with a loved one or dear friends. None of the clamor/party atmosphere from the riverfront crowds intrude upon you in here. And everything from the service, to the wine list to the inventive and masterfully flavorful dishes will have you smiling all through dinner and leaving you glowing afterwards.
There is something intoxicating, also, to watching the unceasing parade of riverboats serenade you outside you as you dine.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: This choice fits the bill for a special occasion or romantic Parisian dining spot. And it’s waterfront, backlit by the exquisite Pont Alexandre III.
Paige’s expert tip: Best to arrive before sunset and take in that breathtaking transition along the Seine of evening into night while sipping an excellent French wine and nibbling on your appetizer. Another bonus about this restaurant is that upstairs is a rooftop bar for that after-dinner cocktail and below is a nightclub open for dancing until 4am on weekends.

Lunch on an expansive terrace that fronts the “marina of Paris” just near the Bastille – and you’ll feel like you’re miles away from the city. The Port de l’Arsenal is where lucky Parisian boats, barges and mini-yachts dock. This little body of water serves as the fluid bridge between the Canal St. Martin and the River Seine. What’s truly great, is that now the harbor’s landmark Le Grand Bleu has been fully restored, renovated and upscaled. This means that just next to the Place de la Bastille, overlooking the boats is a terrific new casual-dining place where you can order drinks and snack on finger foods and shared plates.
Large terraces and even bigger screen tvs are what you’ll find at this guinguette. Traditionally a guinguette is where people gathered to dance and drink. Here it’s more like watch the game and drink with friends.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: Frequently you’ll see a boat traverse from the Canal St. Martin to the River Seine, or vice versa here at the Port de l’Arsenal.
Paige’s expert tip: This place gets packed in the evenings since it’s so close to the Place de la Bastille. If you’re looking for a quiet terrace overlooking boats and water, you can also stop by for an open air lunch under a shade umbrella while you gaze at the boats below.

At the center of one of the liveliest areas along the Seine, here you can regroup with your tribe around a shared plate of oysters and a chilled bottle of wine, champagne or sparkling water. This ‘peniche’ which is barge in French, is parked right in the center of several others. Flanked by two other popular barge-restaurants, the area attracts hordes of people on weekends. Even during the week, it’s a popular spot in the evenings.
Casual dining is what you’ll find here. A chicken burger and fries is about the heartiest thing on the menu. Otherwise it’s mostly shared plates of cheeses, cold cuts and, yes, oysters! Beer is on tap, as are cocktails. The wine and the Besserat de Bellefon champagne you can order chilled, by the bottle.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: This restaurant/bar is literally parked right on the water, the river Seine to be exact.
Paige’s expert tip: A plate of chilled oysters and a bottle of wine or sparkling water shared among friends: If that’s what you like, this is the place. Enjoying a summer afternoon or evening along the waterfront, which is lively and full of activity, is a great way to soak in good vibes.

Under the recently assumed reigns of André Terrail, son of the famous Tour d’Argent restaurateur, Claude Terrail, the family’s gastronomic bistro La Rotisserie d’Argent offers delightful accessibility. The sizzle of the establishment’s signature roasting duck and farm-raised chicken greets you when you enter this red-checked tablecloth icon on the Left Bank. It is literally just next door to the shrine of gourmets the world over, La Tour d’Argent, but here what is served is the bistro version of French food of the highest quality ingredients. Claude Terrail acquired this bistro in 1989 with the intention that snobbery had no place within its walls.
What’s even more refreshing is that the service is quick and pleasant and the staff is welcoming and warm. Duck is the dish here, so much so that it even embodies its mascot. Other classics on the menu not to miss is the Mimosa eggs which are a crab salad filled devilled eggs appetizer, heavy on the fresh crab. The foie gras is top quality. Sides such as whipped mashed potatoes, full of cream and butter, a fresh green salad, roasted potatoes and sauteed crisp vegetables in, yes, butter come in dishes that you can share with your fellow diner.
Don’t even think about skipping dessert here. If you’ve never tried the French whipped, lightly toasted egg white in a sea of creme anglaise, otherwise known as Ile Flottante, I highly recommend you do. The portion here is more than generous and its done exceptionally to perfection. Or you can always go for the tarte du jour.
Recommended for Waterfront Dining because: During the warmer months, outdoor terrace dining here means looking out over the Seine onto the Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris and the Ile Saint-Louis.
Paige’s expert tip: For your first visit to this bistro, stick with the classics and signature dishes. That means have a taste of the roast duck and the crab stuffed devilled eggs. The wine cellar at the sister ship (La Tour d’Argent) is ranked one of the best in the. So even the wines by the glass here will be excellent choices for whatever you order. Sides are fun and are meant to be shared. A simple tapenade and country style bread is your pre-appetizer for whetting the palate as you peruse the menu.

Thunder and lightning.
Yesterday started with thunder and lightning and ended with it.
At first I was very happy, because I had wished for more overcast weather.
Then a few miles after I left, it started to thunder. That wouldn't bother me much, but then it turned out to be more than a dry thunderstorm. I sheltered and then went on with poncho when I thought it was mostly over. However, after a short time the thunderstorm seemed to come closer again. I was already outside the village in the middle of a wet flower meadow when I noticed that the distance between thunder and lightning was less than a second. I didn't feel like trying out if my poncho would insulate enough in case of a lightning strike. So I turned around and looked for the next shelter.
There were already two other hikers who were not on the Way of St. James, but had already walked it several times to Santiago. It was an interesting conversation while we waited for the thunderstorm to end.
Finally, it got to the point where I could continue with my poncho on. The pilgrim guide didn't promise too much – it was a beautiful route. The sky was mostly overcast and that made walking very pleasant.
It wasn't until noon that much of the cloud cover disappeared.
***
After the lunch break, there was another major climb on the program. And the sun showed off again. When I reached the highest point, I saw a rain front coming right in my direction. A look at the weather radar made it clear that I would not make it to my destination before the storm front reached me.
So I decided to take a room there and then. In the evening after the thunderstorm we had some fantastic views of the Swiss mountains in the evening sun.
Today also began and ended with thunderstorms.
Was tun?

The thunderstorm this morning was already over when I left. Again, the first hours were particularly pleasant because the sky was overcast.
The steep descent I managed in the given one hour with only one slip. My feet slipped away on the wet scree below me. I managed to catch myself, but then I couldn't get up because my backpack was pulling me backwards. Finally, I managed to roll sideways.
After a couple of purchases, there was another major climb. The stated hour became 1 3/4 hours. The view up there was fantastic. How nice that there was even a small self-service "Lädili" with chilled drinks. After a short descent came a second shorter climb. There I finally found a shady spot for a longer break. But I already heard the first rumble of thunder. However, at first it didn't look like it was coming in my direction. After another hour I saw a second thunderstorm front, which was very much coming my way. It was a race against time, but finally I reached my destination before it started to rain. (The thunderstorm then didn't seem to get any closer for a while and finally only the fringes reached us).
However, I did not have a place to stay yet. In the pilgrim's guidebook there were two cheap accommodations. At both phone numbers no one answered. The first address seemed to no longer exist. The second address still seemed to house pilgrims, but no one was home. I waited at the door for some more time. After a while I phoned various other accommodations, all of which would cost many times more.
What to do? Maybe I should go in search of the store in town and if no one is home by the time the thunderstorm breaks out, I will have to go to one of the expensive hotels after all. On the way to the store I was approached by a woman who had already walked the Way of St. James herself and was married to a Styrian. She invites me for a coffee. We chat on her covered terrace while the thunderstorm breaks loose.

She knows the family in front of whose house I was earlier. She calls and reaches them. Yes, they are home and I can spend the night with them. Just then it stops raining. I walk in the dry to the second address and am once again amazed at God's guidance.
2019 Aug – Utah Hols: Day 6 - Mon 19 Aug 2019 - Bryce Canyon
After getting back to the hotel, we chilled until about 5pm when we drove out for an early dinner at the Stone Hearth Grill in Tropic. We tried to book via the hotel but received no response from the restaurant. We wanted to reserve a table at the front of the terrace area, and we thought we should be fine arriving when the restaurant opened.
Although the staff were friendly enough, we were told by a young lady acting as the host, that we couldn’t have one of the tables at the front due to them being set for 4 people, and they were for reservations only. That just pissed me off, and unfortunately the customer service didn’t get any better thereafter.
The food was amazing - best meal we have had all trip, and one of the best steaks either of us have had, ever! But restaurants don’t just earn stars due to the quality of their food - it’s partly down to the way staff treat their customers. We were there a little over an hour, and by the time we left, no other customers arrived. The three tables at the front remained unused.
We started off with a beets salad and an ice berg wedge.
Mains included a filet and a rib eye, with mash and well cooked vegetables. We ordered a bottle of rose to wash some amazing food down.
Afterwards, we drove back in to town and stopped to have a wander around “Old Bryce Canyon”.
Back to the hotel, and we dreamed of a great start to our wedding anniversary! 19 years tomorrow.

Jeep Wrangler Snowtrip - Erwachsen werden verboten
@shantijoantan, @chengloew
Schnee in Hamburg? Zur Weihnachtszeit? No Way!!!
@shantijoantan, @sabibo, @chengloew
@chengloew
@chengloew , @sabibo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1_BOf6AoCk&t=742s
@shantijoantan, @sabibo, @chengloew

We love spending a weekend in Johannesburg with our precious granddaughter but come Monday, the weekday boredom of ‘the big smoke’ weighs heavy. That’s when it’s time to escape and head off for few days of travel fun before returning for another delightful family weekend.
So many choices in the Berg
This time, the central Drakensberg and the Free State town of Clarens were our destinations of choice – and what great choices they were.
Entrance to Thokozisa Centre
One of the strange characters to greet you in the garden.
An easy 4½ hour drive from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, is an ideal lunch stop at Thokozisa. With its regional information centre, wine cellar, restaurant, clothing outlets, deli and bar it’s far too impressive to be called a ‘padstal’.
After a delicious meal, a gentle stroll is always in order and Thokozisa, with its intriguing combination of thatched buildings, children’s play areas, quirky statuary and ethnic design provides the ideal place to do just that – and a little retail therapy, as well.
From there, it’s just a short drive to the Champagne Castle Hotel, our home for the next two nights. We loved this hotel on a previous visit and it certainly didn’t disappoint this time either. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the views are magnificent, the service is swift and friendly and the grounds are beautifully maintained.
But, the food, oh my goodness, the food! It is truly unbeatable!
Beware! If you are dieting, don’t read this bit!
All meals are served buffet style with an enormous array of delectable dishes to tempt even the most disciplined of dieter (which I certainly am not!).
Just imagine this: A breakfast spread of fresh fruit juice, porridge, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, cheeses and cold meats, eggs to order, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, cheesy grilled tomato, hash browns, kippers, smoked haddock, toast, freshly baked Danish pastries (they start work at 4am to bake them each morning), and a steaming cup of piping hot coffee or tea. A truly heavenly start to the morning!
A few hours later, there’s lunch: Delicious soup and homemade breads, cold meats and salads, a variety of roast meats and vegetables, a curry, a pasta dish and an array of mouth-watering desserts.
And then there’s dinner: Similar to lunch but with even more choices. More meats, more hot mains and many more desserts. Added to these, the chef is on standby to conjure up fluffy waffles or light-as-a-feather pancakes. And finally, there’s an unmissable range of cheeses!
Three delectable meals a day, along with piping fresh scones with jam and cream served with coffee or tea each morning and afternoon – what’s not to love!
Okay dieters, you can start reading again!
So, there is a little time in between meals and no shortage of things to do. The hotel arranges daily guided hikes, while there are also shorter routes to do on your own … necessary to work off some of those calories. Horse riding is available on the premises, as is bowls, tennis, outdoor chess, a games room and a pool with a magnificent view. There’s also an on-site spa for those craving even more indulgence.
Self catering accommodation is also available at Champagne Castle
Winter temperatures mean that a brisk walk around the expansive gardens, the petting zoo and watching the peacocks display their jewel coloured feathers is sufficient to have us scurrying back to claim our places in the lounge, beside a toasty log fire.
Chris has a favourite saying “Life and beer are very similar; chill for best results”. And so, we never go anywhere without first investigating the opportunity for him to explore his craft beer obsession. Sadly, the Drakensberg Brewery pub and tasting venue is only open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am until sunset. But never fear, although it was Tuesday and we were due to leave early the next day, we managed to buy a copious quantity at the bottle store at the Cedarwood shopping Centre. If you’re a fan, Chris heartily recommends their full-bodied ‘Amphitheatre Red Ale’. If not, I suggest you stroll along to The Ugly Duckling gift store with its plethora of unique collectables for a little retail therapy.

Something for everyone at the Ugly Duckling
All too soon our time in the Drakensberg was over and after promising to return (waistlines permitting), we packed our bags and headed off to Clarens to continue our adventure.
Keep posted and we’ll take you there next.
