Chimera Ed doodles that totally didn't take me like 3 days bc I was procrastinating

This has been in my wips for… somewhere between several months to a year. Anyhow, it's been hogging my data and I don’t think I'll ever finish it (in large part per how my tablet just can’t handle it and repeatedly crashes whenever I attempt to chip at it).

Here's an old comic about Ed poking around Lab Five, trying to figure out why its arrays don’t quite make sense. Envy, in the form that the public recognize to be Ed, tells Ed to leave the area because of how overly reactive the raw stone material can be whenever the young homunculus gets too close.

If you take Ling's blood sugar crashes seriously from a medical perspective and rule out medications I'm not sure existed yet and major organ failure, my best guess at a diagnosis would be an insulinoma, a usually benign pancreatic tumor that overproduces insulin and messed up your levels. Thus I propose the reason he stopped passing out partway through the story is that Greed went "hey what the fuck is this" and ripped it out.

thinking abt chimera!roy hours

I have no real plot or plan behind this idea, I'm just really into the mental image of a giant black wolf with Roy's straight locks of hair and his voice and haunted empty eyes who gets one whiff of Ed's scent and hounds him down immediately...

Only to curl up into a protective ball w/ a comparatively tiny Fullmetal Alchemist tucked against his belly as though he's nothing more than a measly pup. Roy growls at anyone who gets too close, even baring and gnashing his teeth. And every time Ed tries to wriggle out of his Colonel's clutches, Roy carefully grabs him by the back of his red coat- instinctively never being too rough with his large teeth- and tucks Ed back into where it's "safe".

There are only two exceptions to Roy's aggression. One is Alphonse, who Roy will allow to touch himself and Ed (largely because Al smells like his brother), and Hawkeye. When she first approaches chimera Roy, he very gently takes her hand with his teeth and puts it on his front legs before laying his chin over her hand, effectively pinning her in place as well.

Once he has both Hawkeye and Ed under observation, he relaxes significantly and becomes much more docile.

The Tail of an Alchemist Chapter One is finally posted!

It was supposed to be a simple return trip back to Central. All he needed was to sign the discharge papers and then return home.

Unfortunately, life for Edward Elric doesn’t always go how he planned.

About half way to the capital, his train is attacked by bandits and then blown up, killing everyone inside.

Including Ed.

Or, at least, that’s what his friends and family were told. In reality, he was kidnapped and taken to Dublith to a hidden lab ran by former Third Labratory members. There, he is experimented on and turned into an almost perfect aquatic-based chimera.

Anime eyes mfer.

For Ed’s wings I chose a Harris Hawk because black and red coloration matches Ed’s outfit, they’re alternatively called ‘wolf hawks’ how fma-coded is that name it’s so badass, best eyesight of all hawks, Riza HAWKeye, theyre used in falconry which the military would love because it means they would be a) widely available and b) the bird-part of the chimeras brain would be pre-trained to be obedient and follow commands, they’re one of the only kinds of predatory birds that have a pack mentality which would have a hierarchy which they could rearrange into an officer/subordinate system easily, they have this really funny behavior where they stand on top of their pack mates to get a better view.

And Ed always needs a better view because he’s because he’s so—

Chimera Ed au thoughts:

- Ed's disguise (to not be seen as a chimera) might be comprised of the left over pieces of 48/the slicer brothers ; Because I think they would weigh on Ed's conscious like Nina and so he uses the remains of their armor to carry around like reminders (like his pocket watch!)

- Ed's automail arm is too big for him due to Winry only understanding how to make the design for humans and hasn't advanced to animals (I think Pinako did Den's automail, and she knows how important Ed's automail is to Winry due to it being her first design and all. Plus Ed would probably want some semblance of normalcy.)

- Ed isn't agressive in his chimera state, more skittish and protective of himself in a sense. He is reduced to a prey animal mindset, this can't be forgotten. So he sees humans as threats, front facing eyes and all are common traits of predatory animals, and is commonly skittish of them. Ed is also more dull in terms of emotion unless you count high feeling emotions (fear is a common one but overstimulation, sadness, and happiness are all there too.) Dull in the sense of he experiences less complex emotions, this is part of the reason why he won't be allowed to be shipped with other characters. In other words, his aggression is more fear than sass.

- Like Nina was thought to be, Ed is in constant pain; His bones aren't right and they feel wrong in his body, as does his organs, tongue, and certain nerves. So his senses in terms of touch is heightened and diluted in certain areas. His hips, left collarbone, left shoulder bone, and right femur are all fucked up due to having the ports still attached to his body during the transmutation. He walks funny, and speaking of walking he both can walk like a quadped and a biped; Both cause him some level of pain though, especially walking like a biped.

- While Ed has the appearance of an armadillo, he still has humanic or ape like attributes in term of bone structure and whatnot; I don't know how to better explain currently.

- Ed's eyes are still faintly golden, but they still have white cataracts like Nina's eyes. So his sight isn't that good; But his taste, smell, and somewhat hearing are what he has to go off of for the most part.

- Since Havoc is the one to find him, Ed sticks close to Havoc (As well as Al of course but Al causes him to get confused sometimes, he can't sense him that well if that makes sense.) but that being said, Havoc's cigarette smell makes him feel sick.

- Al, although he knows it's wrong, treats Ed more like a cat at first. Because he's a little kid, what do you expect the 13 or so year old to do?

- Greed, much like FMA 03 Greed, hears about Ed and tries to find him to have him join him; Not only to get him out of sight of the homunculi looking for him, but also to just have another team Greed (Devil's Nest) member.

- Ed has speech issues, and therefore typically is silent not only out of pride but also because he thinks he can be badass by just being quiet during fights. He learns certain, one handed signs; Mostly cussing, I wonder who taught him that.

That's it, that's all I got so far.

I'm working on Ed's ref sheet currently, I don't know when it'll be done but hopefully soon. As well as the comic.

I will be writing it out on AO3, I know I will, and once I do I'll be posting that here too.

the arena for the ed’s game was a dilapidated city! i take inspo from central city in fma; quite large, circular, winding streets, tightly-packed quadrants, and at the center of it all, the cornucopia. mutated dogs with the ability to mimic human speech roamed the streets ( and some of them shared an uncanny resemblance to fallen tributes, something that was used against ed after nina tucker died - he still swears that the dog that tore his arm off had her eyes ). the buildings were not a complete safe haven, however! many of them were infested with roaches, flies, and/or rats, all of which carried fast-acting illnesses with the potential to be deadly if you couldn’t score medicine from sponsors.

another thing making the buildings potentially unsafe was the possibility of them suddenly collapsing on top of you. to keep things interesting, the gamemakers would methodically demolish unstable buildings, eventually making entire quadrants completely inaccessible with the purpose of either bringing hiding tributes closer to the center, or killing them ( a good few did, in fact, suffocate under the rubble ).

natural resources were very scarce. much of the water to be found was contaminated; tributes had to either get lucky and snag a filter at the cornucopia, risk trying to filter it themselves, or rely on sponsors for water. rain, while also risky ( and infrequent ) was another option. any scraps found within the city were often spoiled and inedible, so many tributes ( ed included ) found themselves killing the street dogs for meat.

various building materials, however, were plentiful; scrap metal, bits of furniture, even car parts were extremely easy to acquire, opening up the possibility for traps and makeshift weapons if tributes were handy enough.

the game lasted 17 days despite the challenges, likely due to the size of the arena. the gamemakers amped up the demolition and released more dogs by the 15th day to push tributes closer together and increase conflict. late in the evening on the 17th day, edward was declared the victor.
