"oooh you could never make a modern au of septimus heap none of the setup would ever happen in modern mundane world" WRONG. You should never leave Marcia and Silas alone to do an important task while they're a) emotionally riled up from their respective wives' going into labor b) deeply exhausted after a sleepless night and c) actively at each other's throat.
Cue a few years later when everyone is remarking on how little their angels look like them while they're like
...
...
....oh no.

one of the less complex choices in tw3 is Cerys/Hjalmar, because the game pretty much gives you a nudge every time this comes up and tells you that Cerys is the better choice. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Cerys. But I wish the choice was less cut and dry, and made you actually sit down and think who would be the better choice for the future of Skellige - give both Cerys and Hjalmar pros and cons.
Cerys is the better choice because she wants her people to thrive and Hjalmar wants to rage wars and thows his people into battle after batter. If you do Cerys' side of the quest you figure out the murder too, which is a shame, because the Berseker part of Hjalmar's side is cool too and I wish it was better explored. Maybe they ran out of time when they were making this quest, because it feels a little rushed.
tl;dr I wish the choice was harder to make and the devs weren't nudging you towards one "correct" choice

Question: How many of y'all have A LOT of fic requests in your inbox... tagging some people, but I'd like anyone in the Choices Fandom to answer.
If you have a lot - would you be interested in an event (maybe over a week or weekend) where we all try to get them written?

Saint Ceri releases next week!
The poly ending with Eira and Kyros is the hardest to reach; Kyros is hesitant about the very concept, and Eira will withdraw at the first sign of poor communication… you'll have to make the right choices to reach this ending!

New Research Article: Creating Inclusive Linguistics Communication: Crash Course Linguistics
This handbook chapter is a behind-the-scenes of how the Crash Course Linguistics video series came together. I’m really proud that this article includes contributions from the linguistics writing team, including my co-writer Gretchen McCulloch, and our fact checker Jessi Grieser, but also from members of the Complexly team, who produced the show, including Nicole Sweeney, Rachel Alatalo, Hannah Bodenhausen and Ceri Riley. As with the actual videos themselves, this was a dream team. Lingcomm that is inclusive doesn’t just happen as an accident - in this article we discuss some of the ways we set things up to make the best series we could.
This chapter is also a dream project, because it’s part of the excellent double feature: Inclusion in Linguistics and Decolonizing Linguistics, both edited by Anne Charity Hudley, Christine Mallinson, & Mary Bucholz for Oxford University Press. These books are both be available through digital open access. They include some of your new favouite classics about the state of linguistics in research, education and outreach, even if you don’t know that just yet.
Abstract
This case study vignette provides an insight into the choices made in the writing of Crash Course Linguistics (Complexly/PBS 2020). This series of sixteen 10-minute videos cover core introductory level topics for English speakers who consume online content. We discuss how the topics were selected and arranged into a series order. We also discuss the ways we actively built inclusion into the series workflow and content, including in the team that worked on the content, the language examples selected and topics covered. Throughout we discuss the challenges and benefits of working in a collaborative team that includes a media production company and linguists with a commitment to public engagement and communication linguistics to new audiences. Sharing these observations about putting Crash Course Linguistics together is part of our commitment to using public communication to advance the standard of public engagement with the field, and the field’s approach to inclusive practice.

Canon bi/mspec love interests
I saw this post from @choices-ceri and decided to spread awareness of Choices’ canon bisexual and generally mspec LIs!
I am not counting love interests in GOC books because I consider those LIs playersexual unless otherwise stated.
(Or until i headcanon them otherwise, lol, but that doesn’t count either for a list about canon).
Stated to be bi:
-Zig Ortega from The Freshman Series
-Emma Hawkins from High School Story (in her homecoming premium scene and a premium scene in Book 3)
-Lily from Bloodbound
-Hana Lee from The Royal Romance (stated by PB outside of the books)
-Stevie Sun from Murder at Homecoming
-Donovan Navarro from Murder at Homecoming
-Farah Sabri from The Deadliest Game
Shown to be bi/mspec:
-Kieran from The Cursed Heart: Their last relationship was with a woman, Lustre, and in a premium scene in Book 1, Chapter 4, their first love is a man regardless of MC’s gender.
-Aiden Zhou from High School Story: If he isn’t dating MC, he can be set up with Cameron, who is genderqueer, in Book 3.
-Kamilah Sayeed from Bloodbound: Has had relationships with both men and women.
-Alana Kusuma from Perfect Match: Three exes are mentioned: a man, a woman, and a genderqueer person.
-Sloan from Perfect Match: Has female exes, and has a crush on (and potentially dates) Khaan, a man.
-Seth from Red Carpet Diaries: Expresses interest in multiple men and is a love interest for the MC.
-Lucas Thomas from It Lives In The Woods: At Britney’s party in chapter 7, he talks about finding a boy and a girl at the party attractive.
-Becca Davenport from The Freshman Series: Dates multiple men and is a love interest for the MC.
-Kate O’Malley from Veil of Secrets: She is engaged to Tanner and mentions an ex-girlfriend in a premium scene.
-Tevan from The Crown and the Flame: References a past male suitor and is a love interest for Kenna.
-Victoria Fontaine from Red Carpet Diaries: Has had multiple ex-husbands and is a love interest for the MC.
-Adrian Raines from Bloodbound: Was confirmed (by PB outside of the books) to have had a relationship with Gaius and is a love interest for the MC.
-Jax Matsuo from Bloodbound: During shared sex scenes with Adrian and MC, he makes out with Adrian both with and without encouragement.
-Lancelot du Lac from Guinevere: Mentions their interest in both men and women.
-Bryce Lahela from Open Heart: Is shown flirting with both men and women.
Honorable Mentions
Tyler from Murder at Homecoming (the book is just extremely gay lol) and Dante and Jun from The Deadliest Game, whose bisexuality is only mentioned/explored with a male or non-binary MC. So close!

Research Note 131: Decisions 1
I'm writing this sobbing inside the firing room for the proton treatment. It's the only place in this damn building I could close the door, and no one hear me. It doesn't help that with the longer neck my gasps and sobs resonate and make so much more noise than they would as a human.
Fuck, am I seriously acting like I'm not human anymore? I'm nothing. Not a dragon, not a girl, not a person. Nothing.
… I guess I should explain. I am days away from the big doctor's appointment. Friends of mine call it the crossroads. Many complain about how much their doctor grills them about this point. The reason the doctor grills them is simple.
If you continue treatment past this point, no matter how you are getting your treatment, the point is to make you fully animalistic. This means totally the species you are transitioning too. More pain, more extreme changes, more aggressive treatment. Less ability to function mentally… human. If you decide not to cross and stay "anthropomorphic," you still must maintain the current dosage treatment for the rest of your life. Issues with dosage and progression are likely, and it can be a massive struggle staying "between."
So, why am I crying? Because normally I'm assisting others with making this choice and then helping facilitate it. I've thought about this day quite often in passing. I always distract myself with work or writing or friends when I do and the thoughts drift by.
Today, with the appointment so close, and with a light work day, I couldn't avoid it. Especially after watching another patient breakdown, and having to drag them up out of themself back to being okay. "I can't do it, I'm not allowed to be me, to be happy!" they said multiple times. Obviously, they were wrong, and I built them back up.
But am I allowed to be happy? I've had so many issues with treatment, with compatibility, with my body, and how broken it is. Would I even be able to be happy if I was fully transitioned to a dragon if I remained as deformed and broken?
Am I careless enough to leave my work as I become to big and too unstable to work in the clinic? To not be able to help others as I would want to be helped? I'm not the only person that knows the device and technology, but I am one of the few. I may not be the best at helping the patients, but I try! Will the next person do the same as I'm off being a lizard?
All of this built up and broke me when I walked out of the treatment room. I couldn't hold back streaming tears as I walked the hall to the firing room. And I make it worse by burying my face in my hands and clipping it with my claws. Like my own body is prodding me to make a decision.
-Ceri
I'm scared I'll regret it. I'm scared I'll become something I never wanted to be. I'm scared… I'm scared I'll lose the ability to communicate with my friends… To be able to interact with all these wonderful species of beings.
I'm scared of… myself.
