“Made in London” campaign backfires on government, but boosts BEANO awareness!

A government marketing campaign featuring the BEANO’s Dennis and Gnasher has backfired, after a furious Scottish MP accused it of “cultural appropriation”. But on the plus side, we��re betting it may, perhaps, help sales of the comic!

Suzanne Vega worked with? Yes, she collaborated with Mitchell Froom, a producer with a funny last name and we have already met him here thanks to him being quite prolific. For instance, he produced by Susanna Hoffs, who slowly became one of the most interesting singers. Her work moves from the Bangles into other shapes, including those we hear on the link. Yes, her voice, one of the best in her genre, fits into another style so well you wish she would've done more of that. Now, mind you, I'm unsure who called whom, but Froom was the right choice, since he also navigated a different terrain for Mrs. Hoff as well as he did for Mrs. Vega. Still, I believe Mrs. Hoff's solo works are sadly not that much listened to despite them being quite intriguing for someone of her stature.

Song Review: Todd Rundgren, Arthur Brown, Mel Collins, Chris Poland and Ian Paice - “21st Century Schizoid Man”

The 21st-century version sounds almost exactly like the 20th-century version, rendering Todd Rundgren, Arthur Brown, Mel Collins, Chris Poland and Ian Paice’s remake of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man” pretty much pointless.

Rundgren and Brown are so swathed in effects, their 2024 voices come off as not dissimilar to Greg Lake’s of 1969. And while latter-day Crim sax man Collins, former Megadeath guitarist Poland and Deep Purple drummer Paice do a fine job of recreating the first song on the first King Crimson LP, such reproduction is better suited to a live tribute band than to a studio tribute record, the likes of which do better with reinterpretation.

In any event, “Schizoid Man” announces the April 19 arrival of Reimagining the Court of the Crimson King, featuring Crimson singer Jakko Jakszyk, drummer Carmine Appice and Hawkwind alumni Alan Davey, Paul Rudolph and Nik Turner, in one of his final performances, among others.

Perhaps they’ll do something different with their songs. As for “Schizoid Man,” the original will do just fine.
