Born in the 12th century in France, Emilina is a saint in the Catholic church, a devout soul who deeply desired to do God's will. She led a solitary life near the abbey and followed the Cistercian rule as much as she could. She had a deep prayer life, highlighted by extreme fasts and mortification. She was known to predict with accuracy future events, but was most concerned with the visitor's relationship with God. Humility marked her interaction with everyone and she never used her heavenly gifts for selfish gain. Since she neither married nor professed vows with any religious community, Emilina is known as the patron saint of single lay women.

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Luna is the divine embodiment of the Moon. She is often presented as the female complement of the Sun, Sol, conceived of as a god. Luna is also sometimes represented as an aspect of the Roman triple goddess, along with Diana and either Proserpina or Hecate. Luna is not always a distinct goddess, but sometimes rather an epithet that specializes a goddess, since both Diana and Juno are identified as moon goddesses. In Roman art, Luna attributes are the crescent moon plus the two-yoke chariot. In the Carmen Saeculare, performed in 17 BC, Horace invokes her as the "two-horned queen of the stars", bidding her to listen to the girls singing as Apollo listens to the boys.

New post b/c I don't want to derail that last one, but when I was first trying to assert my agnosticism/atheism and try to not engage with Christianity anymore, and therefore was trying to NOT celebrate Christmas, it was very dismissive when my mom was like "oh well you can still get presents 🙂." When the whole point was I was trying not to engage with a religious holiday for a religion I was not a part of anymore.

I celebrate it now b/c I just got exhausted fighting it and I need some sort of winter holiday to get me through the dark times and in the US we don't have a secular one. Emphasis on that last part.

Because Christmas is a religious holiday, and this year I've definitely seen more religious stuff in regards to Christmas than I have in years past. Not a lot but it's out there.
