Yeah, that specific line rubbed me the wrong way too!! (first time I heard it, I raised both middle fingers towards my PC, lol)

b/c it doesn't sound like: 'oh, it's psychological, it's a tiny mental block that you need to get past--' I--what? no, shut up. it SOUNDS like: 'it's psychological; it's all in your head; it's a stupid hang-up; get over it and just eat the good food like the rest of us 'normal,' not-crazy people.'

"just get over it, it's good," "it's a Herb, just eat it; it's fine." (stg, I wanted to grab him by the lapels and shake him, I was so damn upset at that dismissive tone.) "Just eat it," he says, as if it's just that easy; as if it's just that simple.

And I TRIED to write this off and give him the benefit of the doubt, and say that I suspected that "he hasn't come across someone neurodivergent, and that he's talking about some people who turn up their nose at a food just because it has an ingredient that they've decided that they will never eat…" Y'know? I wanted to be fair and give this stranger some grace for some reason idk I'm too soft sometimes.

At the time, when I first saw this (when this interview originally dropped, back around July 1st or 2nd), I tried venting my pain in my discord group about this, and just why it had triggered me so badly.

The response? I was gently dismissed by people who told me that he was just joking, and he's talked about not liking the texture of organ meats, so he understands that stuff, he was just being funny, ha ha, "rrrrroast you a chicken." And I was also slapped down (not really, but the comment was so written so 'directly' that it could be felt that way; which I did) by someone who said that he's also neurodivergent, since he has dyslexia. (a fact that I had NEVER heard of, up until that point; nowhere on the internet, nowhere on the discord chat history, not on what posts on here that I could see; nothing. According to someone, he's talked about this a lot, but I've still never heard him speak of it or read him talking about it. Not once.)

And NO ONE ELSE was making a big deal about this (aside from every person who piped up in the tags about how cilantro tastes like soap to them, but that was all that was said aside from a stray tag here and there about 'yeah he wouldn't like me, I'm a picky eater')--at least, nothing along the lines that you've described above.

and I felt like I was going insane.

I need to vent for a hot moment about my usually fantastic boyfriend

So. Tonight I make dinner. My boyfriend knows I love to cook. His father has been living with us since April (don’t even get me started but I am ready for him to move out)

I make Tacos b/c Taco Tuesday. I’ve got a chicken breast the size of Rhode Island (thanks Costco), beans, rice, cheese, tortillas, cilantro, a whole onion. I go all out. My big frypan is full of onion and chicken. Like 2lbs of this shit. Can of beans boiling on the stove with cumin and salt. I add cilantro and lime to my rice.

When I say that this could’ve fed like 6 people, I mean it. 6 people with 2 tacos made of 10” tortillas, and it would be fine. I have 2 tacos. Boyfriend has 3? His father, I’m not sure, I’m going to assume 3. Point is, a decent amount of chicken and beans were left over, certainly enough for my lunch tomorrow and maybe the day after.

I tell both of these dudes that in an hour, during break time for my group video game night, I will pack up the leftovers for my lunch tomorrow. Both make sounds of acknowledgement.

Break time comes.

There are no beans or chicken left. I ask where it all went, because boyfriend’s father sometimes packs up the leftovers.

Boyfriend says his dad asked if he could eat the rest, and boyfriend said yes.

I tell them both that I literally had said that I was going to pack it up for my lunch. Boyfriend says he can cook more chicken. Or do something with the 1/4 cup rice left.

Dear reader, this man can build a high level gaming PC or decently play a song on a guitar. His skills do not lay in cooking unless someone (me) is there to keep him from stabbing himself with a paring knife, or he has a YouTube video open to follow along; and even then I’m still nearby b/c he will ask “is this okay?” Or “is this mixed enough together”. I love him. Cooking is not his strong suit, but he can make a nice grilled cheese or scrambled eggs.

So I do not trust my boyfriend to cut up another Rhode-Island chicken tit with a paring knife. We have no beans. The rice has been sitting out for an hour and is slightly crunchy.

I’m pissed. I spent an hour making dinner and I can’t even take any leftovers for lunch, which I definitely made enough to do.

Boyfriend is mad that I’m upset b/c I have to cook again. It’s that or I spend $ on takeout for lunch tomorrow and I don’t want to do that. I wanted my taco salad.

Boyfriend offers to tell his dad to go get me something I can take tomorrow. Obviously it would be takeout b/c his dad can’t cook either. I don’t want takeout.

So.

I’m pissed and cooking again at 9 at night.

Boyfriend is upset b/c I’m pissed.

And his dad is snoring on my couch and I want to scream b/c it’s been 5 goddamn months of him living here and he can’t go somewhere else.

-Enchilada sauce from a can. You don't even specify red or green but it's ok because if it's canned both taste the same (like nothing). I weep for u.

-"Mexican rice" I know you mean arroz con tomate but this could mean so many different things!!!!! So many!

Two, this was just for fun and I'm not a professional chef. Sorry for offending you, but I am half Puerto Rican. Grew up eating chicken and rice a lot and Mexican is my favorite, even if the two food cultures are similar but not the same. I wasn't setting out to offend Mexican culture, I just made something I thought tasted good and thought others would enjoy it, but for the sake of being PC or whatever, I'll amend what I'm guessing is a months or years-old post so as not to bring anyone else's ire/irritation/whatever because I've frankly received more than enough backlash on Tumblr for a lifetime in one form or another. Edit: I was NOT saying you were being mean, I've just had some really negative interactions on tumblr and I feel like this one accurate post might bring in the horde of trolls. People can get VERY sensitive on a variety of subjects, even something as simple as food. You were in the right, they weren't authentic enchiladas. I just call things as I see them sometimes, and it was what it was when I made the post, even if it wasn't accurate to what enchiladas actually are. And sorry if I sounded mean or angry in any of this. Coincidentally, I wrote it hungry and 9 times out of 10 I get h-angry.
