Can you write something with young!Maverick?
Something like where they meet and she has heard about his reputation (he's the type to only stay a few nights and then move on to the next girl). So, when one night, he approaches her all smiley and flirty (and maybe a little shy and cute) she thinks that's exactly what he wants from her - to take her home for a night of sex just to move on to other people the next day. And, even though she has developed feelings for him, she accepts it, albeit with no expectation that she will become anything other than just another one he spent a night with or that it was anything other than just sex and fun. So, imagine her surprise when he starts acting the exact opposite towards her from what she expected - always wanting to be with her everywhere, skipping nightlife to be with her, being super clingy and loving, etc, etc. She doesn't believe he has feelings for her but she just can't understand his behavior. She starts to feel overwhelmed because her feelings for him only get worse and she fears the day when he will stop giving her that kind of attention (maybe she thinks this is just a harmless game for him, where she is the shiny new toy he is getting to know until she no longer interests him that much). She confronts him, confesses her feelings, gets angry and tells him to stay away. He desperately tries to tell her about his feelings for her, that he has always been in love with her and has tried to get closer to her through everything he has done because he didn't know what else to do. She doesn't believe him and it's basically him desperately trying to prove his love for her and all that cute stuff with a really happy ending 💖❣️
I also imagined a lot of cinematic chase scenes, inspired by that sand chase in There Are Rules and the f14 airport scene in Altitude 🤣🤣 so there's that. Lots of desperate, all-consuming love, perhaps ending with a love making scene that includes it all? Making desperate, passionate and hungry love. Someone so in love that they don't even know what to do, whether to cry or laugh.
You could also include a classic “misunderstanding scene” that unearths deep-rooted jealousy, but is it not what it seems? Lol it's all very cliché but honestly, it's the best shit in the world when it's written by someone who knows what they're doing, I live for desperate love.
I know this is extra long but hopefuly you'll be able to make it, I simply love your writing. Thank you. ❣️❣️
Oooh what a fun request! Thank you so much for sending this in!! I hope you don't mind, I kind of see this as a series rather than a one-shot, just because there's a lot to cover XD

“That’s Maverick. Maverick Mitchell.”
You tear your gaze away from the animated man near the bar, throwing his arms around wildly as he describes some aerial trick he’s no doubt performed just that morning. You know exactly who he is, and yet, you turn to your friend jadedly and say, “Doesn’t ring a bell.”
She gives you a sardonic smile and skeptically scoffs. “Right. Like your father’s never mentioned his name.”
You shrug, glancing back at the pack of fighter jocks crowding the front of the establishment, each one admittedly a high-flier in his own right – pun intended. But Maverick… Maverick still manages to stand out. “He talks about all of them,” you reply nonchalantly, adding, “It’s not like I sit there and listen.”
“Why are you staring, then?”
You blink away, executing an elaborate eyeroll as you do, and fix your friend with a serious expression. “I can’t look?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“They’re nice to look at.”
Your friend nods in approval. “Can’t argue with that.”
“Doesn’t matter what his name is. What any of their names are. They’ll be gone in a couple of weeks.”
“Perfect fling material, if you ask me,” your friend wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.
“No thanks,” you respond with a grimace. Every couple of months, a fresh assortment of aviators arrives at Top Gun, ready to take on the world. Already the finest pilots in their respective squadrons, they are sent to train at the most elite fighter tactics school on the Pacific seaboard. Their egos soar higher than their jets and their heads are always in the clouds.
You see the various groups come and go – the program is only several weeks long – but it’s always entertaining to watch them transform over the course of their training. It’s why you frequent the officer’s club rather than any of the other pubs in the area. That and the cheap drinks.
“Probably for the best,” your friend sighs dramatically. “He’s got a reputation.”
You purse your lips, watching Maverick smile at the waitress as she distributes another round of drinks among the officers. You know about that too. “Point him out to me,” you say, as though you have no idea whom the conversation is about.
Your friend leans into the table and discreetly aims her finger in Maverick’s direction. “The pretty one,” she mutters.
You let out a small chuckle. “They’re all pretty.”
Your friend shakes her head. “Not that pretty.”
“Not that pretty,” you agree musingly. You make an effort not to fall for the top guns of Top Gun and, until Maverick, you haven’t had much trouble upholding that rule. But everything about him, from the squint of his eyes when he laughs to the radiant warmth of his smile, not to mention his muscular arms, makes your heart skip a beat.
And then he pivots in his stool and his gaze, coincidentally, lands on you. You hastily look away, hoping he didn't noticed you staring, and start to fiddle with the pearls of your necklace. Several moments later, you slowly lift your eyes to check if he’s still looking.
Your heart nearly springs up into your throat when you see that he is. His mouth quirks upward slightly before he gives you the kind of smile that says he’s confident you’ve already noticed him.
You don’t smile back. You’re not about to engage in this dance. You do not associate with pilots. Your friend, on the other hand, is all for the naval aviator experience.
“He’s looking at you,” she whispers excitedly.
“Stop,” you warn her sternly. “I’m not interested.”
“Well, I am,” she urges. “Let’s go talk to them. I like the blond one.” But before you can refuse for a second time, your friend mutters, “Oh god, never mind. They’re coming to us!”
You look at her in alarm and then gulp as several of the men from the bar approach your table. You glance up at them with raised eyebrows.
“Hello,” Maverick says, looking directly at you. He presses his lips together into a vexingly endearing sideways smirk.
When you don’t respond, your friend chimes in excitedly. “Hello, hello! Welcome!” she exclaims, as though she’s receiving guests for a dinner party. “I’m Susan. Hello!”
You eye her moodily as she motions for the newcomers to join the two of you at the table.
“Mind if I sit here?” Maverick asks, pointing to the seat next to you.
You meet his gaze reluctantly. “Knock yourself out,” you respond coolly. You’re still annoyed that he caught you staring and you intend to make it clear that you are not just some girl he can charm into bed.
Maverick’s smirk widens somewhat, as though he’s not quite buying the act. He takes a seat beside you while one of his friends starts chatting up Susan who seems very much to be enjoying the attention.
“I hope you don’t mind,” Maverick says, leaning over slightly so that he could speak more discreetly. “Slider, here, wanted to get to know your friend. And I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to watch him crash and burn.”
You glance at Maverick dubiously. “That’s why you’re here?”
Maverick looks at you, then, and his gaze drifts languidly over the features of your face. “Would you prefer a different reason?”
Ignoring the frantic stutter of your heart as his eyes settle on yours, you shrug and look away, taking a sip of your drink. If only he knew who your father was, he wouldn’t be so bold. “I would prefer honesty.”
“Okay,” he says, resting his forearm on the table. “Honestly? I couldn’t leave without meeting you.”
You glance back at him hesitantly, not sure how to react. “Why?” you ask, trying to control the embarrassing tremor in your voice.
Maverick drops his head and lets out a small chuckle. “I just couldn’t,” he says. “That’s as honest as I’m going to get.”
You eye him tentatively, wishing he weren’t so dangerously good-looking. His sheepish smile almost makes you forget that he dates women for sport.
But the longer Maverick sits by your side, the less important his apparent promiscuity becomes. And when the two of you wind up in the back alley behind the officer’s club, wrapped in each other’s arms, you aren’t overly concerned about the future outlook of this particular liaison. Something about the way he kisses your neck convinces you that some moderate heartache might just be worth it.
Maverick weaves his fingers through yours and lifts his arm over your head, pressing the back of your hand into the brick wall behind you. He cradles the back of your head with his other hand as his mouth moves hungrily beneath your jawline. You let out an audible sigh and he pins you even more firmly against the wall, as though the sound you made has aroused him further.
And despite your every intention to just kiss for a while before taking your leave – because you don’t do flyboys – Maverick has managed to change your mind without speaking a word. You want to tell him that you’re flattered but no thank you, instead, you breathe, “come back,” when he finally pulls away.
Maverick smirks at you and tugs on the hand he’s still holding so that you’re drawn directly into his arms. “I’m not going anywhere,” he whispers.
You wrap your arms around his body, flattening yourself against him like you mean to be absorbed. And he folds around you like a cocoon, his arms enveloping you so securely, you barely have to hold yourself upright. He moves backward, pulling you after him toward his bike.
“We fucked,” you tell Susan the moment she puts her car in park.
She looks over at you with wide eyes and an even wider mouth as her jaw literally drops. “You and Maverick?” she shrieks.
You wince anxiously and look around, making sure nobody heard her exclamation. Then you roll up your window and nod for her to do the same. “Keep it together, Susan,” you hiss. “We’re behind enemy lines.”
Susan grimaces apologetically but the remorse is fleeting and, before you know it, she’s eagerly bouncing in her seat. “As if you’ve been blabbering on about a fender bender for half an hour and drop this bomb right before you have to go!” she whispers feverishly. You give her a grievous look which she expertly ignores. “Was he good?”
You sigh. “He was fine,” you say curtly, still uncomfortable sharing the details of last night’s encounter while sitting in the parking lot outside Hangar 1.
Susan appears disappointed. “Just fine?”
You glance around once more and then respond quietly, “He was very good.”
“I fucking knew it!” Susan yelps, tapping you on the knee excitedly. “Tell me more!”
“Later,” you say. “I have to meet my dad, remember?”
She nods. “I’ll pick you up in half an hour?”
“Thanks, Suz,” you respond. “You’re a life saver.”
Your father, Top Gun’s very own Viper, paces back and forth as you sit in one of the chairs before his desk. He’s trying to keep his cool. “You sure you’re not hurt?” he asks again.
You nod tiredly. You’ve had a hell of a day.
Viper sighs moodily and shakes his head at you as though he’s not convinced.
It’s at exactly this moment that there’s a knock on his door and, as you begin to rise from your chair to leave your father to his duties, Maverick enters his office.
You freeze, meeting his gaze in alarm. Maverick, in turn, stops in his tracks, gaping at you from the doorway, forgetting even to salute his superior.
“Lieutenant,” Viper says. “You need something?”
Maverick, who seems unable to look away from you, stammers, “Do – I – uh…”
“Maverick,” Viper says sternly, and Maverick finally glances in his direction.
“Commander Metcalf,” Maverick says, a little dazed as though he’s surprised to find Viper in his own office.
“Speak, Lieutenant. I don’t have all day,” Viper grumbles, still irritable from the news he’s received during your visit.
Maverick, who seems unable to recall why he’s even come, gulps nervously and glances back at you again.
“Okay, well, thanks dad,” you say quickly. “I’ll be off now.”
Maverick’s face slowly morphs into a visage of terror as he realizes who you are and what, in fact, it means for him to have had relations with the commander’s daughter. He watches you in horror, beginning to mouth the word ‘dad’ before he catches himself and leaves his mouth hanging open on the ‘a’.
“How will you get home?” Viper asks you, not paying attention to Maverick’s reaction.
“Susan’s picking me up,” you respond.
Viper sighs again. Then, he sighs in Maverick’s direction. “Maverick, meet my daughter, Y/N. Y/N, this is Lieutenant Mitchell, recent Top Gun graduate and a helluva pilot. Hopefully, soon to be one of our newest instructors. If he finally remembers why he’s here, that is.”
Maverick glances anxiously between your face and Viper’s and then holds his hand out to you. “Pleased to meet you,” he says courteously, his eyes resting on yours for a significant moment.
You give him a tight smile and then give your father a hug. “I’ve got to go.”
Viper shakes his head all over again. “I still can’t believe that bastard hit you.”
“Who hit you?” Maverick looks over at you sharply, suddenly on high alert.
“Nobody – the other driver.” You exhale wearily, not too keen on repeating the story for a fourth time in one day. “I was in an accident –”
“Are you okay?” Maverick asks, immediately taking a step toward you.
“I’m fine, totally fine,” you assure him, taking several steps backward until you feel the doorknob at your spine. “I just need some rest.”
“We’ll sort out the car tomorrow,” Viper says.
“Hey, at least it wasn’t a jet, right?” you joke, trying to lighten the mood.
Neither Viper not Maverick is amused by your humor, however, so you reach behind and pull open the door.
“Okay, well, bye dad! Mav – uh – Lieutenant Mitchell.”
Maverick stares after you as you retreat behind the door, still somewhat speechless.
“Tell Susan to drive carefully!” your father calls.
“Will do!” you call back.
Finally, Maverick speaks again. “I, uh” – he clears his throat – “I could give her a ride, sir.”
You pause in the doorway while your father purses his lips, considering the offer. Joke’s on him, of course, since Maverick has already given you one – just last night.

Masters of the Air is great, if you've ever thought "wow Band of Brothers is nice but it's weird that the plot is moving from setpiece engagement to setpiece engagement with the same characters, I wish we'd see more of the boring stuff with characters we don't know" then this is the show for you. And don't get me wrong this isn't about turning WW2 into a glorious ballet of death, but when your eight hours long series about US army bomber pilots has maybe half an hour of aerial combat, already that's a problem. The only time Masters of the Air puts you in the thick of it it's to kill as many recognizable characters as possible so that you can lose interest in the cast faster, you don't get to experience the important turning points of the war as seen from their point of view. Because they're dead or in PoW camps, sure, but also because the series doesn't care to show us. Episode 8 somehow encompasses most of 1944 and exactly five seconds of D Day are shown. I was down to get an in depth look at what bombing missions contributed to the war effort, but they never get in depth about it. We never go through boot camp, we never get a strategic sense of things, every episode is just "go there blow shit up" and we never hear about it again. This is, if anything, yet another exemple of screenwriters inexplicably not understanding that scenes must be related in tone or narrative, have a set up and a pay off, all that crazy smart stuff moviemakers figured out in the 1890's. Like at this point when I watch some movies I feel like seeing the work of someone who knows putting letters in a row makes words but doesn't actually know what writing is. Like shit, okay, so I get that this is based on his memoirs but was there any point in showing us that Crosby's fling was a spy in France ? Did we need to have a grand total of five minutes of Tuskegee Airmen over the last two episodes ? Did we need to see Crosby get told to take a vacation then take it offscreen ? Or maybe, just maybe you could have cut all that shit out and wrought a compelling narrative about those two assholes Buck and Bucky who are in every episode, forge a friendship together, get shot down over enemy territory, get captured by the Germans, put into camp, get involved in the Great Escape, go on a death march and finally escape separately, getting back to their home base in the end, 90% OF THESE PLOT BEATS NOT BEING INCLUDED IN THE FUCKING SHOW. This series is an unfocused mess and the only emotions it got out of me were linked to me knowing what World War 2 was, not any kind of cinematic skills. If I want combat footage with no characters I'll just watch a documentary at least that'd be good in its own way. At this rate making a show out of it is bordering on feeling gross and exploitative. "Well we made a series about the Army and a series about the Marines, now we gotta make a series about the pre-Air Force I guess." like "whatever the fuck we do it will sell cause WW2 is so moving and shit, and it's pretty much our version of brand recognition". In conclusion I can honestly say that Masters of the Air isn't only the worse out of the three big WW2 series, but it's also just a flop in general. No action, no tension, no emotion, no nothing. An expensive slideshow to serve as a demo reel for an amazing prop and costume team.

Response 1: West Side Story
Tumblr media
In Robert Wise's West Side Story (1961), Lauren Davine's analysis in "Could We Not Dye It Red at Least? Color and Race in West Side Story" sheds light on the interplay of race and color within the film. One particularly striking scene that resonates with Davine's insights is the dance at the gym. Amidst the vibrant colors and energetic movements, the racial tension between the Jets and Sharks becomes palpable through formal cinematic elements.
Tumblr media
The mise-en-scène, with its contrasting costumes and settings, visually reinforces the racial divide. The Sharks, clad in bold, colorful attire, stand out against the Jets' more subdued clothing. Cinematography also plays a crucial role, framing the dancers in ways that emphasize their racial affiliations.
Davine's examination of color symbolism enriches the analysis of this sequence. The choice of colors in the costumes and set design transcends mere aesthetics, serving as a visual manifestation of the racial tensions embedded in the narrative. The dance at the gym thus becomes a microcosm of the broader societal conflicts portrayed in West Side Story.
Moreover, the film doesn't rush into storytelling but begins with a continuous aerial shot, presenting the towering skyscrapers of New York City as if they were primal jungles made of steel and concrete, seemingly accusing the audience. Contemporary humans seem to abide by the law of the jungle, akin to beasts in their adherence to survival of the fittest, implying the city's ruthlessness. This resonates with the subsequent turf wars and conflicts between the two major gangs, hinting at the unforgiving nature of the city. Furthermore, under the influence of mass industrial production, humanity is neglected, with the absence of previous humanistic concerns, rendering individuals as tiny and invisible as mere debris amid the overwhelming products of industrialization.

Alright alright alright y'all I saw Devotion
This is not a glowing review of Glen nor this movie so if you don’t want to read that feel free to scroll.
I haven’t read the book, though the movie made me really want to! So that’s a positive for sure.
Also I know nothing about the Navy. Spoilers below the cut.
Disclaimer: I’m generally very critical of movies / tv, even ones I like, despite having zero real cinematic knowledge lol. My dad’s a producer so he and I love to pick apart movies and that habit has definitely made me hypercritical (as a frame of reference I have issues with TGM and New Girl too, two all time faves) so take my negative Nancy shit with a grain of salt please.
Things I liked in no particular order:
Jesse and Tom running the checklist just before Jesse crashes into the clearing
Every scene Christina Jackson was in - she was amazing
When the junior (I assume) sailors come out to watch Jesse’s carrier qualification - thought the reactions of the squadron were really interesting in this and overall a super emotional scene
The aerial scene in the beginning where Tom & Jesse fly by the lighthouse
Jonathan Majors. JONATHAN MAJORS, holy shit. He wowed me. Some scenes made me SO uncomfortable and I mean that in a good way (like him reciting things in the mirror) because he delivered them so viscerally without overplaying the character. His performance was incredibly balanced and overall outstanding imo. If it weren’t for him I likely would’ve hated this movie (sorry Glen)
The scene where the squadron is taking their flight gear before the funeral flight, thought this was cut beautifully with Daisy getting the news of Jesse's death
Glen’s my babygirl. He looks gorgeous in this movie. His facial expressions were generally great throughout. The first half of the movie I enjoyed him mostly (pretty much everything pre-Cannes). That’s kind of where my compliments end for him 🫣 I do not think this was his best performance by a long shot. Most of his line delivery fell flat for me.
That could’ve been because Jonathan Majors steals nearly every scene he’s in. It also could've been the writing, a lot of the dialogue felt very stilted and awkward, especially in emotionally heavy scenes on the carrier.
As a Glen fan, thought it was cute the girl Tom kissed in France was Gigi but most of the Cannes stuff was completely unnecessary. On the positive side there, the dynamic between Glen/Jonathan I thought was fairly likeable in the outdoor bar scene.
Joe Jonas was alright, my expectations were basically on the floor for him so he exceeded that, yay. There were scenes where I liked the CO and found his character engaging and then there were a couple towards the end where I thought he was awkward. I have nothing to say about the rest of the squadron, didn't dislike them or find them memorable.
My biggest gripe is that the pacing of this movie was ridiculous - it felt WAY longer than 2.3 hours. By the end I was beyond ready for it to be over. I probably would never be able to sit through this movie from beginning to end again which is unfortunate. The real bulk of the story is at the end but by the time it came around I was mentally done with the movie and thought a lot of the performances (especially glen’s) towards the end didn’t land. The timing of everything felt really off and although I thought the actor’s performances were generally stronger in the beginning, things took so long to get going that by the end I somewhat checked out.
Overall, loved Jonathan Majors and Christina Jackson. Adored their performances. Felt mostly neutral about everyone else. Extremely negative about the pacing.
Also I still think the world of Glen!!!! I completely understand how easy it is for me to criticize vs the constraints they actually worked with in making this! Sorry don't hate me for this :(

Week 7 Film Comparison
By Aiden McKinney
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre VS. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Production Style/Conventionality
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974): arguably one of the best horror films ever made, definitely jump started the slasher genre and became an inspiration and blueprint for future horror films. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000); equally praised for being a masterful film that honestly qualifies for several genres (martial arts, foreign language, drama, romance and adventure/fantasy). The two films are twenty six years apart and are very different in terms of their production style and conventionality.
An independent film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is unconventional as Hollywood standards go. Writer/Director Tobe Hooper captured his audience by claiming the film was based on a true story. This is stated in the opening scene. However, this is only partially true. More accurately, it “draws inspiration from several real-life events, inspired by much of the violence featured on the news. Tobe Hooper specifically credits Ed Gein and Elmer Wayne Henley as the influence for Leatherface, and the true story of this serial killer is perhaps even more disturbing than The Texas Chainsaw Massacre itself” (Screenrant). Hooper then hired a handful of young, unknown actors who were willing to work long hours in the Texas summer heat for a mere $800 for four weeks. Using only handheld cameras, the cinematographer captured unusual angles, aerial views, and quick, in and out, cuts of extremely up close images. In one particular scene, the cinematographer followed an actress from underneath a bench swing. This angle was strongly opposed by the producer, but Hooper and cinematographer, Daniel Pearl, insisted it remain, and so it did. The shot, progressive and unconventional for 1974, became an influential cinematic camera shot. Film critic Roger Ebert was equally impressed with the outcome of this film. “Now here’s a grisly little item. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is as violent and gruesome and blood-soaked as the title promises -- a real Grand Guignol of a movie. It’s also without any apparent purpose, unless the creation of disgust and fright is a purpose. And yet in its own way, the movie is some kind of weird, off-the-wall achievement. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to make a movie like this, and yet it’s well-made, well-acted, and all too effective.”
The following clip is outtakes from the making of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where you can see the simplicity involved in making this iconic film.
youtube
The film is presented in a documentary style. The opening scene features quick flashes of images of corpses in various stages of decomposition. Distance shots of the actors walking are almost voyeuristic in a sense. They give the audience a feeling that everything they are watching is real and the actors have no idea they are being watched, let alone filmed. The simplicity of the way this film was made only enhances the fear factor.
youtube
The ongoing horror and violence of the Vietnam War was influential in the making of this film. Hooper made a direct correlation between violence against people and the effect it has on the human mind and spirit. Mental illness is evident in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as it became a growing problem in 1970’s America.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, released in 2000, was a blockbuster. After having huge success with Sense and Sensibility and The Ice Storm, director Ang Lee wanted to return to his roots and make a movie about China, for China. A martial arts, wuxia, action-adventure film, CTHD is a conventional film, by Hollywood standards. The protagonist has a goal. In this case, it could be argued that there are three protagonists who share the role. The main protagonist, Jen Yu, is the daughter of a rich family. Her main goal is to achieve freedom, so she runs away from home and an arranged marriage, to seek a life of adventure. She takes the audience on a thrill ride, all the while keeping her goal in sight. It’s a classic tale of good versus evil, with some fantastic fight sequences, and a little romance, too.
youtube
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon focuses on women warriors. This film showcases the societal gender roles bestowed upon women in early 19th century China. The women in this film challenge those roles, defying the limitations traditionally placed on them.
Film critic, Roger Ebert: “This story, like all martial arts stories, is at some level just plain silly, but Ang Lee ("The Ice Storm," "Sense and Sensibility") and his longtime collaborator James Schamus (who wrote the screenplay with Wang Hui Ling and Tsai Kuo Jung) are unusually successful in bringing out the human elements, especially the unrealized love between the Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh characters. There are times when they're together that you forget about the swords, and are just watching a man and a woman, tenderly cherishing the unspoken bond between them. Zhang Ziyi's character, the governor's daughter, is also intriguing because she chafes at the rules that
limit her and realizes a secret fantasy life.”
Tumblr media
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon does break tradition as far as typical “kung-fu” movies go. “It is much more. A fantastical martial arts romantic adventure, a lyrical, dream-like morality tale, Crouching Tiger combines the fast-paced action of the Hong Kong tradition with the emotional intensity of his earlier film, Sense and Sensibility, according to Lee” (asianstudies.org).

Plot Summary:
The film centers around the Williams family, particularly the teenage siblings Tyler (played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Emily (played by Taylor Russell), and their tumultuous journey through life's highs and lows. Tyler, a popular high school wrestler, grapples with the pressure to excel both on and off the mat under the watchful eye of his demanding father, Ronald (played by Sterling K. Brown). Emily, on the other hand, navigates her own challenges while trying to find her identity and purpose amidst the chaos of her family dynamics.
The narrative takes a dramatic turn when an unforeseen tragedy strikes, shattering the family's fragile facade and sending them spiraling into a whirlwind of emotions. As they struggle to come to terms with their grief and guilt, each member of the family embarks on a personal journey of self-discovery and redemption, ultimately finding solace and reconciliation in the power of love and forgiveness.
Visuals and Soundtrack:
One of the most striking aspects of "Waves" is its visually stunning cinematography, which expertly captures the raw intensity of the characters' emotions and the lush beauty of the Florida landscape. From sweeping aerial shots of sun-drenched beaches to intimate close-ups that capture every subtle nuance of the actors' performances, each frame is meticulously crafted to evoke a visceral response from the audience.
Complementing the film's visuals is a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that weaves seamlessly throughout the narrative, enhancing the emotional resonance of each scene. The eclectic mix of genres, ranging from ambient electronic beats to soul-stirring orchestral arrangements, serves to underscore the film's themes of love, loss, and redemption, leaving a lasting impression long after the credits roll.
Performances:
The ensemble cast of "Waves" delivers powerhouse performances that breathe life into their complex characters and elevate the film to new heights. Kelvin Harrison Jr. delivers a tour-de-force performance as Tyler, perfectly capturing the character's inner turmoil and vulnerability as he grapples with the weight of his own expectations and the expectations of others. Taylor Russell shines as Emily, imbuing her character with a quiet strength and resilience that belies her outward fragility.
Sterling K. Brown delivers a nuanced portrayal of Ronald, the patriarch of the Williams family, whose stoic facade hides a deep well of pain and regret. Renée Elise Goldsberry delivers a standout performance as Catherine, Ronald's wife and the matriarch of the family, whose unwavering love and support provide a beacon of hope in the darkest of times.
Themes and Impact:
At its core, "Waves" is a deeply human story that explores the universal themes of love, loss, and redemption with a rare authenticity and depth. Through its multi-layered narrative and richly drawn characters, the film challenges its audience to confront their own preconceptions and biases, while also offering a message of hope and healing in the face of adversity.
The film's exploration of family dynamics, particularly the relationships between parents and children, is both poignant and thought-provoking, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and relationships. By juxtaposing the outwardly perfect facade of the Williams family with the internal struggles and conflicts that lie beneath the surface, "Waves" underscores the importance of empathy, understanding, and forgiveness in navigating the complexities of human relationships.
Final Verdict:
In conclusion, "Waves" is a cinematic tour de force that deserves to be celebrated for its bold storytelling, breathtaking visuals, and powerhouse performances. Trey Edward Shults has crafted a film that transcends genre conventions to deliver a deeply human story that resonates on a profound emotional level. Whether you're a fan of drama, romance, or simply great filmmaking, "Waves" is a must-see experience that will leave you breathless and profoundly moved.

Some film terminology, also some random terms.
2-shot: a type of shot in film encompassing two characters. A 3-shot is the same, but with three characters. But a one-shot is a film that is captured in just one take. A shot that encompasses one person is a single-shot.
A-roll and B-roll footage: A-roll footage is the primary footage, where the action and dialogue is. B-roll footage is the secondary footage: transitions, establishing location and mood, anything that happens 'in the past' with a narrator, stock footage, or discarded footage.
ADR: Automated Dialogue Replacement. The automated part means the section of movie to be dubbed over is looped on a computer, rather than traditional film, for the actor(s) to match.
Aerial Cinematography: Aircraft is used to film from up high. It includes helicopters, planes, and drones.
Afternoon: Wikipedia proposes several definitions. It's a stretch of time during which the sun appears to descend from zenith until around 5pm, or when the sun appears low in the sky, marking the beginning of evening.
Airball: this is a term in basketball where a player completely misses a shot, failing to hit the rim or backboard of the goal.
Aliasing: In an image, you'll see jagged edges and strange patterns. In a video, it's the same but flickering. Some may describe it as 'crunchy'. It has something to do with sampling rate.
Ambience: Also called background noise.
Anamorphic: This type of lens originated in traditional film when widescreen was introduced. It squashes the image horizontally to be stored on a non-widescreen film, and can be projected in widescreen later. This lens produces several classic cinematic effects, which is why it's also used with digital cameras. I'm struggling to understand the details but, among other things, the anamorphic lens produces a shallow depth of field, resulting in softer backgrounds and greater clarity of focus on the subject. It also produces lens flare, especially blue horizontal lens flare, and makes ovular or even rectangular balls of light (bokeh) instead of circular bokeh. And of course, a wider field of view.
Arc Shot: This is a form of camera movement, in an arc or circle around a subject. The article linked explains some purposes for it, such as showing themes of unity, or sharing character dizziness and freneticism with the audience.

Maximize Your Property’s Appeal with Drone Photography in Los Angeles
In today’s highly competitive real estate market, standing out is more crucial than ever. Property listings have evolved beyond traditional photography, and drone technology is at the forefront of this shift. With breathtaking aerial views and dynamic shots, drone photography has transformed the way real estate properties are presented to potential buyers. In Los Angeles, where the skyline, landscapes, and architecture are as diverse as they are stunning, real estate drone photography is the key to maximizing your property’s appeal.
The Power of Drone Photography in Real Estate
Drone photography offers unique advantages over conventional real estate marketing tools. When selling properties in a city like Los Angeles, with its varied topography and iconic landmarks, showcasing the full scope of a home or commercial building is vital. Drones provide sweeping views of the property and surrounding neighborhood, highlighting features that ground-level photos simply cannot capture.
Aerial photos offer:
Complete Property Perspective: Get a full view of the home or building in its entirety, including the layout, landscaping, backyard, pool, or outdoor amenities.
Neighborhood Insights: Drones can also capture nearby attractions, parks, and amenities, giving buyers a feel for the area’s environment, which is essential in a city like Los Angeles.
Unique Angles and Dynamic Views: Drone photography allows for shots from multiple elevations and perspectives, making the property more visually appealing.
Why Los Angeles Real Estate Needs Drone Photography
Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis with unique residential and commercial properties ranging from beachfront mansions in Malibu to modern high-rises in Downtown LA. Drone photography’s ability to capture every angle, whether it’s a coastal view or city skyline, helps ensure that each property shines in the crowded Los Angeles market.
1. Showcasing the Location
For buyers, location is often as important as the property itself. Whether you’re selling a high-end luxury estate in the Hollywood Hills or a commercial building in Westwood, the surrounding environment plays a significant role in the appeal of the property. Drone photography helps showcase proximity to beaches, parks, schools, or key urban centers. Aerial images and videos can demonstrate the benefits of the neighborhood, offering buyers a clearer understanding of their potential investment.
2. Highlighting Property Features
For larger homes and estates, especially those with extensive outdoor spaces, pools, gardens, or scenic views, drone photography ensures that these features are highlighted effectively. Drones capture expansive, sweeping shots of the landscape, providing a complete picture of what the property offers.
Imagine a sprawling estate in Beverly Hills with a multi-level garden and infinity pool — a drone can capture the entire property in one frame, giving potential buyers a more immersive viewing experience. These eye-catching visuals help properties stand out, attracting more interest and higher offers.
3. Creating a Lasting Impression with Videos
Video tours are an emerging trend in real estate marketing, and drones play a pivotal role. Aerial video tours of properties provide a cinematic experience, giving buyers a virtual walkthrough without stepping foot on the property. In Los Angeles, where properties can range from sprawling lots to tight urban spaces, drone video tours can highlight features like rooftop decks, courtyards, and views that can’t be captured by standard ground-level footage.
Videos provide a lasting impression, keeping potential buyers engaged with your listing longer, and offering a competitive edge when it comes to closing deals.

We create custom solutions based on your property’s size, layout, and key selling points, ensuring that the final images and video highlight the best features.
Maximizing Marketability in a Competitive City
In a competitive real estate market like Los Angeles, having professional drone photography can be the difference between a quick sale and a property that lingers on the market. Drone photography helps your listing stand out in the crowd by offering buyers a more comprehensive view of the property and its surroundings.
Today’s buyers, especially in a visually driven digital world, expect high-quality visuals when searching for their next home or investment property. Incorporating aerial photography and video not only increases the perceived value of the listing but also enhances its marketability across platforms like real estate websites and social media.
Conclusion
Drone photography is revolutionizing the real estate industry, and in Los Angeles, where properties are as diverse as the people who buy them, aerial images and video offer a fresh perspective. By leveraging the power of drone technology, you can maximize your property’s appeal, attract more potential buyers, and sell faster.
At Petrossian Aerial, we pride ourselves on delivering professional, high-quality real estate drone photography services that showcase properties in their best light. Let us help you take your real estate marketing to new heights — literally.

Drone photography has transformed the way we capture landscapes, events, and even commercial projects. From stunning real estate shots to breathtaking aerial views of natural wonders, a drone photographer can provide perspectives that were once impossible or difficult to achieve. Whether for personal use or professional projects, hiring a drone photographer opens up a world of creative possibilities that ground-level photography cannot match.
The rise of drones equipped with high-resolution cameras has made aerial photography more accessible to both hobbyists and professionals. Drone photographers can shoot sharp images and capture smooth, cinematic videos from the skies, offering a unique way to document weddings, outdoor events, construction sites, or even wildlife. With drones, there’s a level of flexibility and creativity that standard cameras can't provide, allowing for a broader view of the scene and a deeper visual storytelling experience.
One of the most exciting aspects of hiring a drone photographer is the option for drone filming. Aerial video can add a dynamic element to promotional videos, documentaries, or travel films. Drone filming is ideal for capturing wide, sweeping shots, smooth tracking of moving subjects, and otherwise unreachable angles. For professionals in the real estate, tourism, or marketing industries, drone filming provides an invaluable tool to showcase properties, destinations, and services in a way that grabs the audience's attention.
In major cities like Dubai, drone photography has surged in popularity, especially in industries like real estate, tourism, and corporate events. The city's striking skyline and luxury developments make it a perfect location for aerial photography. Drone photographers specializing in drone filming Dubai have the expertise and knowledge of local regulations to capture the best footage without legal complications. They work with top-quality equipment and often collaborate with clients to customize projects according to specific needs, ensuring the final results are polished and professional.
When hiring a drone photographer, it's essential to choose someone with the right experience and skillset to handle your project. A good drone photographer not only has technical knowledge of flying drones but also understands the artistic side of framing shots, using natural lighting, and editing the final images and videos to perfection.
In conclusion, drone photography provides an innovative approach to capturing high-quality aerial images and video. Whether you're interested in drone filming for a creative project or drone filming dubai for commercial purposes, a skilled drone photographer can help you achieve stunning visual results that set your work apart.
