The red and the black: narrador encantador, protagonista odioso
Tumblr media
The red and The black - Stendhal

“When you compare the sorrows of real life to the pleasures of the imaginary one, you will never want to live again, only to dream forever”. Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo My current read is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.⛵️ There are so many great quotes from this book it is hard to choose just one. Full of adventure and revenge, this is a fantastic book! The serial format also makes this book very easy to read. The colors on the cover of the Signet edition reminded me of the Mountain Lion quilt that we have in our Etsy shop! Our Etsy shop is VictoriaGDesigns or shop at https://www.victoriagleasuredesigns.com 🧡 Hashtags: #victoriagdesigns #victoriagleasuredesigns #mountainlion #classicbooks #countofmontecristo #alexandredumas #classicbookstagram #booksandquilts #fabricinsperation #quiltsofinstagram #quiltsforsale #smallbusiness #womenownedbusiness #bookstagram #quiltsofinstagram #etsy https://www.instagram.com/p/CpS1FjTAbmC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

📖 Day 6 of #11booksilove challenge: Plays by Anton Chekhov. I can't choose which Chekhov's play is my favorite(Uncle Vanya or Three Sisters perhaps). Luckily they are usually published in one book, so I don't need to pick one. In #11booksilove challenge we’re promoting our favorite books. 11 days. One book per day. No explanation. Just book covers.

The saga continues, with lemon muffins and cappuccino encouragement! I’m super excited to get further than ever before in this book! The slow pace of a chapter a day has me learning a lot about the steady nature of progress, and that I don’t have to race through the world at the pace of others. #whiskeyandperserverance #whiskyandperseverance #warandpeace2023 #warandpeace #tolstoy #chunkybooks #russianliterature #russianlit #classicbookstagram #classicliterature #chapteraday #slowandsteady https://www.instagram.com/p/CoRU4DkLjRn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Fun pic of the #Starswept trilogy by @kricklereadsbooks! 💫 Posted @withrepost • @kricklereadsbooks ✨📚Book Challenge Spotlight✨ Book challenge: bear claw, Turkey leg, old lady - musical instrument Book: Star swept Author: @astralcolt Book Synopsis: Some melodies reach across the stars. In 2157, the Adryil—an advanced race of telepathic humanoids—contacted Earth. A century later, 15-year-old violist Iris Lei considers herself lucky to attend Papilio, a prestigious performing arts school powered by their technology. Born penniless, Iris’s one shot at a better life is to attract an Adryil patron. But only the best get hired, and competition is fierce. A sudden encounter with an Adryil boy upends her world. Iris longs to learn about him and his faraway realm, but after the authorities arrest him for trespassing, the only evidence she has of his existence is the mysterious alien device he slipped to her. When she starts hearing his voice in her head, she wonders if her world of backstabbing artists and pressure for perfection is driving her insane. Then, she discovers that her visions of him are real—by way of telepathy—and soon finds herself lost in the kind of impossible love she depicts in her music. But even as their bond deepens, Iris realizes that he’s hiding something from her—and it’s dangerous. Her quest for answers leads her past her sheltered world to a strange planet lightyears away, where she uncovers secrets about Earth’s alien allies that shatter everything she knows. Give your hearts but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together; For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow. ~ The Prophet, Khalil Gibran This book took Gibran more than eleven years to be perfected. It is his best-known work. “All these, however, were mere terrors of the night, phantoms of the mind that walk in darkness;” The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving 23rd June 1819, first publication of “The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent." by American author, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat Washington Irving. The collected stories written under the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon, contained the first appearance of his now famous stories, `”Rip Van Winkle", and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The work was among the first widely read works of American literature, both in the United States, Britain. The stories were written during Irvine’s residency in England and around Europe from 1815 to 1832. While in England, Irvine met Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. They both shared the friendship of the American actor John Howard Payne, who offered his hand in marriage to Mary in 1826, but she refused. Payne then tried to persuade Irvine to propose to her, although there is no evidence whether this proposal took place. Mary never married after the drowning of her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley despite numerous proposals, and so it is likely that Irvine’s proposal would have also been rejected. The story of the ‘Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, originated in 1798, during an outbreak of yellow fever in Manhattan, where his family sent him to Tarrytown, New York. It was in Tarrytown he became familiar with the nearby town of Sleepy Hollow, with its Dutch customs and local ghost stories. Art shown is original and inspired by the story, it can be found on the website: www.ofgraveconern.com You are invited to follow @ofgrave.concern for more gothic tales #gothicliterature #gothicfiction #classicliterature #halloween #halloweenfiction #washingtonirving #thelegendofsleepyhollow #sleepyhollow #ichabodcrane #headlesshorseman #maryshelley #maryshelleysfrankenstein #ripvanwinkle #classiclit #classiclitmemes #gothictales #literaturelover #classicbooks #classicbookstagram #tarrytown #yellowfever #regencygothic #gothicstories #percyshelley #percybyssheshelley #sleepyhollowcemetery #sleepyhollowart #gothiccandles #darkart #darkartists https://www.instagram.com/p/CQjMGJxHvbk/?utm_medium=tumblr

“My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people do not know.” Arthur Conan Doyle
Tumblr media
Today’s @owlcrate @octhenest @words.and.whimsy Good Vibrations photo challenge is Hotel California:
A book with a cult like following. Some say Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes was the beginning of the first fandom, going as far as reviving Sherlock from his watery grave. Sherlock Holmes still captures the imagination, and it is a lot of fun to read about him in all his renditions. 📖🔍
What is your favorite version of Sherlock Holmes?
This book is pictured on the Sherlock Holmes inspired Houndstooth quilt we made, that now resides in our guest room! 🐾

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library. - Caroline Bingley-Pride and Prejudice #qotd💭 What is your favorite book quote? I know that Caroline Bingley was only saying this in the book because she wanted Mr. Darcy, and she really didn’t care for reading, but.... I’m pretty sure I’ve said these same words before, and it wasn’t to get a guy. 🤷‍♀️ #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #classicbooks #classicbookstagram #classicbookquotes #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #janeaustenbooks #janeaustenquote #janeaustenfan #prideandprejudice #thebookwasbetter #butcolinfirththough #readmorewatchless #booksarefun #readingaddict #readingaddiction #goodreadschallenge2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/CDCHsvLg_uS/?igshid=yytc5c9ea9vb
