My comments: Really fascinating and entertaining, epic fix-it with depth and twists and just, wild and uninhibited creativity along the lines of Magical Marriage Ribbons and Fallen. In which wangxian get together (after awkward adolescent stumbling) as students - a relationship that begins to solidify as they study together and debate cultivation theory and invention. (Wwx is already a prolific inventor, and lwj is reluctantly fascinated.) When the Wens attack CR (and WQ turns coat to warn the Lans that it's going to happen) it is, of course, wangxian who save the day with an insane off-the-cuff invention through which they fool the wens into thinking they burned the sect and then quite literally bag them.

There are so many departures from canon! For example, wwx figures out how to call the other Yin pieces to them; wangxian learn to combine their qi and make a single big, extremely powerful entity out of their two selves; wwx never loses his core and while he uses demonic energy, it's not in the same way it is in canon, so he's not universally reviled. And, of course, he and lwj are paired up since their student days. There is heavy focus on his talismans and inventions (yay!) They save the Wens; and stumble over child mo xuanyu (whose sass blossoms once he understands he's safe with wangxian).

Story is loaded with plot and action and character interactions and transitions seamlessly between all of them so that when your teeth ache from fluff there's angst to cleanse your palate, and the same with action and relationships. Wwx's self-worth issues are ENORMOUS and don't seem much settled by the fact that every single other sect wants him and his genius, and there's digging into his past and why he's so fucked up, which gives room for lovely emotional h/c.

And I'm not even going to go into the possessed baby xuanwus (from eggs collected by young mxy), all the illegitimate Jin brothers, the whole province given to wwx by GusuLan as thanks for winning the war (he's SO unprepared to be the Lord of a city), lwj's foul-mouthed secret uncle, the meteor and the volcano. Just. It's epic, trust me.

In the sequel (nearly another 100k) you get wwx trying to face his fears via puppy therapy, a grand cultivation tournament (featuring a newly young adult mxy and his crush), a woman with a strange history, an incredibly awkward jc, wwx hiding a secret he doesn't feel is his to tell and lwj drinking vinegar. It's delicious.

the only thing i still remember is that wen qing does a surgery to bring back wei wuxian's core, and the new core is from a wen prisoner who is set to be executed. the prisoner turns out to be wen yuan's bio dad, and he's willing.

At the end LWJ breaks/hurts his ankle really badly on the way to a cabin to have sex in Olympics gear, and then they get married.

I'm looking for match-making fic where Jin Zixuan (tired of wwx constantly interrupting family time with his wife and newly born son) decides the best way to get him out of the way is to matchmake him with someone. I think he tries Nie Mingjue mainly, because they have similar interests, etc.

Jiang Cheng also gets roped in, but he thinks Jin Zixuan is nuts the whole time. NMJ thinks Wei wuxian is definitely flirting with him at some point because his muscles get complimented? Lan Xichen has to reassure him that "no, he is just like that".

It's a comedy of errors mainly, because LWJ and WWX definitely have something going on between them, and it ends with them running off with horses to elope into the sunset or smth. Jiang Yanli doesn't know her husband's matchmaking scheme, but she does know about wwx and lwj and helps them elope at the end.

Pretty sure it was a short fic, ignores canon and occurs in a what-if scenario where the whole burial mounds situation didn't happen.

... I apologize, but I must confess... this is why I am not a fan of the live action series.

The liveaction, Chenqingling or the Untamed as it is known in the international market, gave us some of the best rendition of characters and amazing chemistry between the two leads, Lan Wangji by Wang Yibo and Wei Wuxian by Xiao Zhan.

That does not erase the fact that it absolutely butchers the nuances, details, and deeper themes from the book (and the fact that Lan Wangji let Wei Wuxian left at the end of the TV show. What the absolute flying fuck?!!!).

It's an ok show by its own merits. But it absolutely is not faithful to the book... by a very large degree. This is not its fault. TV Shows and series have to abide by extremely strict censorship laws in China. It's not a secret that the film crew did what they could.

That said, in the Chinese fandom, Chenqingling is Chenqingling. MDZS is MDZS. The one is not the other. Chenqingling is not counted and categorized in the MDZS tag in Chinese fandom. The distinction is very clear. There have been more fandom wars than I care to count just because people try to toe the line or purposefully mistag.

In any case, to answer your question. No, Wei Wuxian did not cite Lan rules or any rules at all at Wen Zhao during Xuanwu cave.

What he cited was a line from a book called 温门精華录 （Wen Men Qing Hua Lu. Lit: Collection of House Wen Essence). This book was issued by House Wen to all the people forced to take part in their education camp. The book, as the name suggests and the novel describes in detail, is a collection of famous sayings by the best and most famous cultivators from House Wen, chief among them is Wen Mao, the founder of House Wen and the man who started the era of Cultivator House (and not Sect, as the common mistranslation in the international fandom).

Wei Wuxian quoted a line from Wen Mao himself from that book, provoking Wen Zhao into saying such a line is 'dog's fart.' That is the trick. It was Wen Zhao who forced that book on the people of the education camp and demanded them all to memorize the lines in there and be in awe at House Wen's greatness. So in one move, Wen Zhao not only revealed he himself knew shit all about the sayings of his own House, but he also insulted the founder of his own house, his own ancestor. According to the novel, this was a crime punishable by death for all those who belong to House Wen. Insulting the very founder of that House himself.

It's a detail in the book that shows not only is Wei Ying extremely smart, he's also very cultured (and very creative) even when he's insulting somebody. He's not the type to resort to crude curses.

So no, it has nothing to do with Lan's House Rule (Which seems to be another common misunderstanding in the international fandom. The Lan rules are their own House Rules. It's in the name itself. 傢規 . House Rules. The only people who have to abide by those rules are members of House Lan, or students while they studying in Cloud Recess. That's why Wei Wuxian said, why does he have to learn the rules? He's not about to be married into House Lan. So technically, he only has to abide them within reasons why he was there. House Lan do not seek to impose their own rules on anyone else. That would be tyranny and the very same thing the Wen tried to do.)

What are your writing strengths?

I've been told my narration has a distinctive voice to it, and I think that's what people tend to compliment most? Dialogue is also something I've tried to consciously work on over the years, and I don't know that it stands out as a strength necessarily but it's almost something I find easy to write these days if I'm in the swing of it

What are your writing weaknesses?

Action and smut. Basically don't make me mentally choreograph complex stuff

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Now that my Mandarin has improved after two years of study, I think writing bilingual fic could be fun. There's definitely dialogue I've thought up in Mandarin for C-Drama characters that just won't have the same impact in English, and it's a shame I can't just casually drop it into a fic untranslated and be done with it

First fandom you wrote for?

First fics I ever wrote were for Star Wars and they were written longhand into a horrid little hipster notebook from Indigo. The first fics I posted on Ao3 were for the MCU though

modern archaelogists and historians trying to understand who were the CQL characters in an alternate reality the events of the show happened for real in Chinese history

-Meng Yao would be a historian's favourite bc there would be SO MUCH about his life. not only we'd have faithful, contemporary portraits of his likeness, all his social ascension and battles and everything would be documented. he'd definitely become the star of a... period drama!

-Wei Wuxian would be as polarising as he was in life. there are records about him being handsome, but why the only portraits of him we have are of ugly, demonic bald men? was the Yiling Laozu a class conscious hero ahead of his time or a sadistic tyrant?

-the Lans would be also quite well documented... from around CQL's time forward. historians would lament the tragic loss of documents in the Cloud Recesses incident. still, the clan's preceits would be a goldmine to understand customs of the period.

-the handsome portrait of Lan Wangji made by Wei Wuxian would grant him some fancy nickname among historians [and tumblr millennials with thirst for historical figures] and likely a cultlike following

-the Wen would become a big ass void in the studies of this era. most information about them would come from HELLA biased sources, damaged artifacts and fragments of bone. that would inspire some Western who works for History Channel to make a show 'The Lost Legacy of the Wen'

-the Jiang could go two ways: famed and well documented by their descendants who kept all the remaining documents and artifacts, or just a void like the Wen. the Lotus Pier Massacre would go down as a major event, and possibly inspire a lot of modern artists and showrunners

-the Nie would reach our times involved in mysteries. the Unclean Realm would become a visitation place, but much of the history of its former inhabitants would be hard to understand. why they always die early? what happened to Red Blade Master? was Nie Huaisang a cultivator?

-nobody would know what happened at Yi City. the area has bad feng shui, so it would remain almost untouched until the 20th century, and become subject of all sort of ghost stories. there would be found the bones of a malnourished teen girl, a young man with injured  orbital bones, and another young man with a malformation on his left hand indicating he suffered an injury in childhood that left him disabled.

-some historians would attribute these bones to the infamous Xue Yang, said to have murdered 50 people in one night at age 15 and other  legendary and ahistorical rumours. many people would believe he never existed at all, as there's no mention to his name in any official document-- the only Xue Yang recorded was accused and then released, probably some unfortunate innocent who shared a name with the myth. there would be, however, records of a Xue Chengmei working at Jinlintai in a particularly gruesome era of the clan... 

-talking of other Jins, they'd be also well documented. Jinlintai itself would probably become a touristic attraction, and be used to film period drama

Essentially, I read a time travel fic a while ago that was amazing and after scouring tags and even my history (I’ve only been bookmarking for a month like a dummy) I haven’t found it. The fic is wwx getting dumped back into his body in the lectures arch immediately after dying. He has some insane PTSD (like genuinely doesn’t want to live anymore but also feels guilty about how he ruined things the first time) and I distinctly remember him throwing up meat of all kinds and the Jiang siblings not understanding but LWJ just rolls with it from what I remember. The final piece which I’m only 90% sure was part of this fic is the plot twist. After everything’s said and done we find out NHS and NMJ are the culprits behind the time travel bc NHS had them both tattooed with WWXs time travel talismans that he made in his first life and he was terrified of losing his brother (pretty positive he had figured out JGY was poisoning him)

13. hello! i’m looking for a post first-siege fic but i don’t remember too much about it. it’s set after LWJ is injured with his 33 lashes, and WWX sneaks(?)/deliriously stumbles into the jingshi after news of his death has already permeated the jianghu (i’m pretty sure). LWJ is woken up by WWX(?) or wakes up to WWX kinda slumped beside him. some feels are definitely had between them but i don’t remember the details.

LXC discovers WWX embarrassingly quickly, and in this fic i’m pretty sure this LXC leans on the “WWX was your only mistake” kind of LXC, but ultimately doesn’t care that he’s in CR for the sake of LWJ—like he’s incredibly wary of WWX and his intentions but throughout the fic you can see LXC realizing he’s more than just the yiling patriarch or the man who broke his brother’s heart.

now there are two scenes i remember from this fic, but i’m not sure which one goes first, and for all i know i might be mistaking two different fics lol. but i distinctly remember WWX coming down with a severe illness. like LWJ and LXC come back to the jingshi at some point and discover that something is really wrong with him, and i think him being sick leads to a golden core reveal? not sure tho.

the scene that i remember that is definitely part of the fic i’m looking for is when LWJ and LXC (i think maybe for a medical check up for LWJ?) leave the jingshi for some reason, and WWX just chills for a little bit. after a while a servant comes into the jingshi to clean some things up, and WWX has to scramble to find a hiding place because no one else in the lan sect is supposed to know he’s there. he ends up hiding behind the far side of LWJ’s bed(?) OR behind a privacy screen(?), and he just sits there, cramped and uncomfortable for who knows how long, before LWJ comes back.

LWJ doesn’t see him at first and you can tell that he’s afraid WWX left, but WWX calls out for him and LWJ discovers his hiding spot, where i’m pretty sure WWX is cultivating some nasty illness.
