It was my birthday on the weekend, and I was gifted this little box of vegan chocolates! Yesterday was awful. So bad I forgot to post! 55mph gust, driving rain and low cloud make for terrible riding weather. But Scotland scenery has stood out despite the gloom. Oh and some pretty good food too! A decent full Scottish at the Poolewe Hotel set us up for the day, and a drained battery and the need for a jump didn't stop us from setting off North. Only time for a fuel stop at Ullapool, maybe a coffee stop on the next tour. We braved the elements, with horrific crosswinds and some proper tankslapping moments. We also encountered a mile long convoy of historic tractors, a wee f*nny in a BMW M4 and an awful lot of sheep... But sights such as the Kylesku Bridge made it vaguely bearable. Our arrival at Durness meant only one thing, @cocoamountain. We needed sugar and warmth, things they provide in abundance. In return for almost flooding them we indulged many, many sweet teeth, and it was heavenly. Sadly we were booked in a hotel 40 miles away so at some point we had to leave! We were outdoors for all of five minutes before we pulled over and visited the Smoo Caves. As we were already soaked, we barely noticed the mist and spray from the raging torrent of a waterfall. Back on the bikes and around the top of Scotland as far as Bettyhill where our accommodation for the evening, the unsurprisingly titled Bettyhill Hotel is located. Many ciders and some rum made things much better, as did a rather tasty Venison burger. The nights sleep was punctuated by the sound of the storm trying to wrench the roof away from the walls but luckily the building won that fight, which meant we had somewhere for breakfast.
