Code Swap 2025

Hey @vrepit-nya ! Here is the fic I wrote for you for @code-swap

I mostly went for your first prompt, so the fic is focused on William and Aelita's relationship, but I also included a bit of the second one, so you can expect to find a small interaction with XANA's monsters as well.

Seventeen years after turning off the supercomputer, Aelita has built a mostly peaceful life for herself, trying to move on from her past as best as possible. That is, until she receives an unexpected request from William: going back to Lyoko one last time.

Day 21: Roleswap

I know everyone had the same idea, but I want to share my interpretation.

Makoto swapping places with Yuma, there would be some changes, like, his physical appearance would change, the WDO uniform could be purple, because purple and yellow go together very well, Makoto being a complicated protagonist, Amaterasu and Detectives Agency would switch places. Imagine having Yomi as your chief?

Makoto would probably have less empathy for the culprits compared to Yuma, although we can say that he would also erase his memories and could become someone more emotional?

I view this more as a basic empathy test. Sure I still say it sometimes, but only where I know for sure as a fact it's ok. There is a great chapter in the book Word By Word by the lexicographer Kori Stamper about the history of using masculine-coded words as "neutral" even though they aren't and never were.

And like yes, language evolves and colloquialisms exist and there's nuance and exceptions to every rule etc etc etc.

Ultimately, when presented information about something you do, that doesn't have a single damn impact on you personally beyond the learning curve of changing a habit, but that the thing DOES HARM other people, and your knee jerk reaction is "well I don't MEAN it to be harmful," like...this is the impact vs intent discussion, right!
