My town has a new independent theater and they show older movies. I saw both Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon this year. They are two of my favorite movies, I’ve seen them both dozens of times. But it is wild to see them on a big screen. I noticed all sorts of things I’ve missed before.
Seeing an old movie on the big screen really puts in perspective how they were made to be seen that way, and how every other way of watching them—while delightful and often the only option—is like drinking watered down vodka when you were meant to have the whole bottle
