2021's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.6 #11 ("11: Here we make our stand.") last (splash) page by Al Ewing (script), Juann Cabal (artist), Federico Lee (colors) and VC's Cory Petit (letters).
I'm still regretting that this very good run didn't last a bit longer (but as the saying goes: "don't be sad it's over, be glad it happened").

Friendly reminder: Peter named his son after Rocket 😌
Tumblr media
And no, it's not some "awesome bro moment" where Peter marries a girl, invites Rocket over for dinner, then annouces he would be his kid's godfather or anything like that 😂. So now I can proudly give you my Roquill presentation ☕️ (ok tbh it's not that long).
Long story short, Peter was blown away into another...dimension and couldn't go back.
Tumblr media
He met 2 hot people and they invited him to join their poly 😋.
Tumblr media
Of course he refused. He hadn't given up hope for going back to his team. But, after some years...
Tumblr media
Horrayy, now we got bi poly Peter Quill 🎉🎊
Ehem, well, he then had a child with Aradia (the woman). His stay prolonged for 100 years more before he found a way to come back.
So my take is: Rocket held a special place in Peter's heart (not like that needs to be proven). He spent a lifetime not being able to see any of the Guardians, and he chose Rocket, out of all people, to name his child (note that Richard Rider, even just in a playful way, was kinda jealous). 'Cause their bond was that special. Peter missed Rocket dearly and this is his way to cherish their memories being together.

Okay am I just dumb or was it really subtle that Peter has a fake eye again? He has an eyepatch in one panel in issue #9
Tumblr media
and his eye is drawn differently after that
Tumblr media
and he does literally mention it in issue #11
Tumblr media
but it somehow went completely over my head until now.

You follow Billy pretty consistently, right? I haven’t read the recent guardians comic (the way mantis was written issue one put me off it) so I’m wondering if you have any thoughts on him and Teddy there, whether you’d recommend the issue(s?) or not for other fans. I think that’s his only significant recent appearance (since SW) right?
It's actually not his only significant appearance since Scarlet Witch. Billy and Teddy were in a one-shot comic called Captain Marvel: Assault on Eden, and it was really good! It's a Carol story, but it's also a continuation of Anthony Oliveira's previous BillyTeddy stories in Marvel's Voices and Empyre.
If you're only reading for Billy and Teddy, you can safely skip Guardians of the Galaxy (2023). So far, they've only showed up in #7, which was basically just an interlude. The characters were well-utilized, and it's always good to see them and the Alliance participating in galactic events, but they were really just there to move the plot along, and they haven't been back. If that changes, I'll definitely post about it.
Tumblr media
I'm not really a fan of the writing or artwork in this series. Al Ewing's run from 2020-21 was, admittedly, a hard act to follow, but this book isn't even coming close in my opinion. Mantis's treatment is particularly frustrating. The premise is that she's bonded with a sentient garment that allows her to embody different versions of herself from across the multiverse. It's a cool concept, or it would be, if it didn't basically turn her into a Looney Tunes character-- or if they hadn't waited until #9 to explain what was going on. I also feel like the way the writers have addressed Mantis's trauma and her relationship with Sequoia was shallow and really unfair to both of them, so that's just another way in which this series really fails to follow the Ewing era.

If you had the chance to fix some comic storylines that you thought were bad or a waste of potential which ones would it be.
I'm taking this as an excuse to tell you how I would rewrite every GOTG run barring 2008 and 2020.
2013
I think this run would've been. so fucking cool. if original sin dropped the bombshell that the Peter Quill we've been following this whole time is the Peter Quill of the Cancerverse and 616 Pete is still trapped in the Cancerverse with Rich.
It'd do a lot to explain the wonky characterization-- and it'd give the Guardians themselves a clear-cut mission. the 2013 kind of meanders a lot with no clear goal, so it'd benefit from a straightforward "save x from y" type of mission.
Peter & Rocket's friendship would be a big focus here; I think if Pete was replaced, Rocket would be one of the first to pick up on it
Plus, Adam could show up <3
2015
Extrapolating the Wanted arc into something more- by this point in the GOTG comics, they've pissed off every major empire (Kree in Black Vortex, Shi'ar in TOJG, Spartax by Peter's existence, Badoon by Gamora's existence, etc) and it'd be fun if it was just... every galactic empire is gunning for their heads & they've got to keep up the whole guarding the galaxy through that.
I'd have Cammi come back in this, like if we've gotta have her with the Ravagers then fine, she's there to take them in 'cause she's pissed that they never found & she got stuck with Arcade.
It gives Drax some limelight & focuses on how he navigates being a father
Nebula as the main villain, having the Graces as arc long bad guys for the team to fight. Neb obviously has her 616 personality & is in this for the bounty - but Gamora can take it personally due to the drama with the Graces
All New All Different/2018
Magus as the main villain this seems so obvious to me
I'd keep the Infinity Wars stuff, just in a way that makes sense. Gamora is working with Magus to get her soul back because he's also got a part of him stuck in there
It's all a scheme by Magus & Goddess to escape Soul World; Goddess has shown to be able to brainwash Gamora before, so we can put that on that
I'd also not. downplay the Ultron side of things. Conquest was fucking traumatizing for this team
Gamora's past with the Phalanx would also work well with the Magus/Goddess thing; maybe she's got it in her head that if she gets her soul back, she'll have purpose again
Mantis would be there for the Ultron side of things
I would work Phyla's resurrection in there somehow. 616 Phyla, specifically, like I don't think anything fancy needs to be done at all, Thanos has been resurrected so many times it'd be simple to say Oblivion brought her back to combat Magus&Goddess
Can work the Groot stuff into the themes of Soul & Trauma like... Groot died in Conquest, he was lit on fire, and grew back as a little stump. So the Groots are killing worlds... but it's always worlds that Ultron was going to target & it's a fucked form of mercy
2019
In stories that focus primarily on Thanos & the Universal Church of Truth as the antagonists, I would simply not make it the Peter Quill show & instead let Gamora & Warlock take the lead
If Starmora has to happen, I'd have Peter's arc be more about trust & how to keep it, contrasting with Gamora's arc of learning to give second chances after people hurt her
I'd also. address how Adamora broke up, like delve into why, bring in Atleza in at least a mention, etc
2023
I'd keep Grootfall as some kind of corrupting force in the Manifold Territories but not as the reason they're there
Instead
I'd use the whole "the Manifold Territories are from beyond the known universe" and have Peter be the one insisting they go. Have him aware of the risk this could pose to teammates (maybe have it have something to do with damaged souls-- Gamora's & Drax's are healed after Infinity Wars, etc, but Groot is still vulnerable from the Gardener) but he does not care because if it's beyond the known universe, it's beyond the sun
He's trying desperately to get back to Morinus
Mantis has brainwashed the others into coming & it becomes an inverse of GOTG2008; instead of Peter doing all of this for altruistic reasons, it's because he wants to go home
Continuing to inverse 2008 - show how the GOTG have changed each other through their refusal to kill Groot. Peter shot Warlock; now, years later, he can't do that to Groot. Being a Guardian has changed him
Like show the positive & negative effects that the Guardians have had on everyone

Most of it will be based on the 2008 series, but I'll also base bits of my characterisation on other runs (2020, a few better oneshots, even 70's-90's stuff for Vance Astro, ect.)
You don't neccesarily have to have read them to do this quiz, surface level understanding of the team might be enough if you're prepared for a potential unfamiliar face showing up at the end. (I'm also planning on making a masterpost for where to start if anyone is curious)
I might take liberties with the team, namely by including Nova despite him not really being a member most of the time, (rejects joining multiple times, joins in 2020, leaves but keeps the jacket?) and skipping others who I don't really know what to do with. (did you know Iron man was on the team in 2014? Not that it matters or that i'm using that run.)

Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) Issue 4.
(context, peter remotely drove the ship with rocket and hercules away from some planet and then blew it up. gamora’s waiting for peter to yell at him. But he won’t be coming back.)
I’m just thinking how fucked up it is that she’s doing this because *bruuuhhh* Rocket just lost Peter too and he was already hurting from it, and it wasn’t really *his* fault that peter hacked the ship and blew up the planet, and then she goes and kicks him to ground when he’s already down T^T
Like, if you’re looking for more Gotg content the comic issues are where it’s at—like unbelievable.
I *did* laugh audibly at the part where Rocket gets kicked, but like, that’s my default ‘whoa, that was an unexpected emotional blow’ response so—
Also i love how it’s being told from Groot’s POV, (kind of lazy way to avoid dialogue, in my opinion, but i don’t really like Marvel comic dialogue anyway soo) and everybody talks “I am (name)”
And he sees what Gamora’s about to do (god, i love the details in here, You can see Rocket starting to pull back (his hands are in the ‘burn’t stove’ position) when he sees Gamora coming towards him, but he doesn’t fight her, and Groot doesn’t stop here.
Groot says “We can’t just turn them away,” and then Rocket leaves with Hercules.
I’m a bit confused at how this whole is justified, (let’s kick your down freind when your both hurting, and you know he won’t fight it because he thinks he deserves it, on some level) But i didn’t read the 1st issue (because it’s my thing to start reading manga from the second, that’s where all the juicy ✨angst✨ is.) so i probably missed some *very* important starting info,
Anyway that was my gushing, i hope you enjoy the comic pages you find ^^
