It’s silly to pretend otherwise. Leaving unkind comments is doubly cruel because you are 1) saying something potentially hurtful and 2) allowing other people to see it.

Think twice before posting that kind of comment. Is it kind? Is it helpful? Would it embarrass the OP if someone else saw it?

I thought of this too. Maybe sometime down under? No way to know, but I did think the line she threw in at the end “Try and come for my job” might have hinted at something. I can read it both ways. As always, we’ll never know for sure. But I think it’s fair to say she has felt this way many times. It reminded me of Katy having to go on stage immediately after having her husband tell her he was filing for divorce. And it’s relatable. We’ve all had to put on a happy face at work and pretend things are fine at home.

excuse me, you recently related a post with a tag asking if people remembered when people cared about recoining things and I’ve been thinking about it and I’m wondering if you meant that caring about recoining was good or bad?

We dislike re-coining. I don't have the spoons to explain the full part of it, but it mostly comes down to our more general criticisms of the extent of individualism in the MOGAI community (recoins, especially when they are of terms that have already been coined many times, often feel as though they are disregarding the contributions of other coiners, as well as ignoring the community symbol purpose of flags) and it feels disrespectful to the work of archivists. Every time we see another gender related to the song I/Me/Myself by Will Wood and nothing else, we feel like our work and our efforts in not only preventing terms from being lost as well as making them so easy to search for is, uh. Pointless. Not valued. We've spoken about this with some other archivists who have said they feel the same.

There are five (5) genders related to that song on our blog alone, by the way, and that's only counting the ones that have no other specifications. There are also five (5) related to the album Everything Is A Lot, and four (4) related to the song Thermodynamic Lawyer, and four (4) related to The Normal Album. Again, this is only counting ones without any other specifications, and are only the ones posted on our blog. This is a regular thing.

I was lowkey curious if there was a way to spoiler tag in ao3 bookmarks but my goog terms were too general lmao

however. it did lead to several reddit threads in which ppl discuss or mention the purpose of bookmarks, and. the most interesting-to-me part was that ppl on reddit seem to agree/tend to casually mention that CRITICISMS and disagreements the reader has can go in bookmarks. Above all, the consensus seems to be that bookmarks are a READER's space (which. tbh. I do agree with).

the reason this is interesting to me is bc there's no caveat of "well if you're gonna say anything negative, dont. or you can just/should make that bookmark private cuz the author can see it and it exists in a similar space as negative comments." Which I feel like tends to be the more dominant opinion I see around *here.*

However, the ppl of reddit seem to take for granted that some ppl may perhaps browse bookmarks as like an additional rec or filtering tool, and at least a good handful outright state that bookmarks ARE spaces for " warnings or criticisms" for example *for other readers to see*. (harassment obv does not fall under this- but if it's a crit that isn't harassment then the opinion on reddit seems to generally be yeah it's the reader's space)

anyway. interesting to me but not sure I'd utilize it exactly. What I do right now is sort of treat my bookmarks as both like, notes for elements I may in the future think of and want to find again, or ones I was looking for as "fic with x" and found again and noted, or particular quotes I find striking etc.

but like, any bookmark that is public is sort of like a "guy I wouldn't mind being seen in public with" situation lol. mostly my current private bookmarks are "fics I thought were eh but I may come across again due to tags/summary"- this sort of indexes it ig? there's a couple bookmarks which I bookmarked years ago and have priv'ed recently cuz they don't do it for me anymore, tho they must have done at some point. But I don't necessarily note what it is I didn't like about it or didn't work for me in those and keep it public, I think cuz for me the public vs private is more of like. would I want to be seen with this fic in public lol. cuz ig fics I don't like, I just don't tend to bookmark in the first place. actually I have some priv bookmarks too which are like. this is not my speed but I found it compelling. or sth. idk. i run a lot of vibes, bros. we know this.

Blog Event Part 1: Manhunt.

Satan was in the center of the pride ring, just on the edge of the heaven’s embassy. He had shrunken down to a size that was more reasonable for walking around the city. He still towered most on the street. Enjoying being big was one of his many weird traits. The cafe he had stopped at was called: “Fallen Brews.” Which was a little on the nose but, he didn’t mind it. There are a few sinners, imps and hellhounds sitting about chatting and drinking their coffee.

Satan had a table to himself in the middle of the patio in front of the cafe. He had a number of papers in front of him that he was reading over. He had a set of reader glasses on his lower set of eyes. Not that he needed them, all his senses were razor sharp but, the readers helped him focus on reading especially in noisy crowds. So why was he here and not in his office doing this?

His therapist, Yogirt had told him being among the people he judged might help him relate to people better. On top of that, getting out of his office every once in a while was good for his mental health. Satan was a workaholic. He was focusing on some new reports that he had gotten about Gluttony and Lust. His focus was only broken by a waitress who seemed to be an Envy demon dropped off his coffee. He thanked her and put his paper down to take a sip of his coffee.

You’d think he took his coffee black but, it was actually pretty loud with cream and sugar. He had enough bitterness in the courts for his taste. As he lost himself in the brew. He felt a tug on his arm. He peers down into the red eyes of a teenage hellhound. She had black fur with white spots on her. She was wearing a lovely little white dress and big red glasses on her face. She flashed a nervous smile at him.

“Yes, little missy? What can I do for you?” Satan asked, putting his coffee on the table.

“O-oh um….s-sorry…I know you're busy Mr….Satan…sir but, c-could I have your autograph?” She mused out nervously.

Satan was stunned for a moment. “S-sure. Who do I make it out too?” Satan took a photo of himself in his talons.

Her eyes got big and bright as she almost bounced in place. “E-Evelyn sir!”

Satan signed the best he could and put his symbol on it with a bit of magic handing it back to her. She took with such excitement and turned to her friends waving the picture. Satan chuckled when it hit him like a brick. A sudden sense. An old alert bell. He was an old soldier. He was a soldier in heaven before he fell. Somethings he never forget like when danger is headed your way. As a Soldier you can feel in the air.

Time began to slow for Satan as head turned towards the feeling in the air. Spotting a black tinted car slowly pulling around the curb window began to slowly roll down as, three barrel muzzle lurked out of the shadows of the car. Not just normal barrels either….each barrel had heavenly glow to it. Rifles blessed with heavenly metal. Satan turned back to the hellhound girl attempting to reach down for her….

Then there was a loud sound of gunfire, screaming … .and scent of blood in the air.

Heyyy!!! Thank you for articulating this and actually, I think that’s eventually the plan. Look, my auntie used to work for two professional athlete as their social media manager (basketball players, 1 established nba starand the other 1 an up and coming nba player who is now in the nba). And i remember the up and coming nba star had a gf before and my auntie suggested to gently introduced her to his social media to curate a wholesome image for the player. You would think that that’s gonna “ruin” him for the fans (esp female fans) but actually, my aunt claims that introducing a long time gf in the picture will only make the female fans swoon. They like a good guy. A loyal guy. A wholesome guy. So that’s what they did. Just include her in some of the photos. Also asked the nba player to mention her more. And then get her more involved. She’s still private and their rs is still private but the fans know her and they have a healthy rs. Like they know that that’s her man.

Now, relating to Oscar. Remember he added a social media manager this year? Kym Illman talked about this in one of his videos. So obviously, Osc and his team are making deliberate moves to grow his social media following. What also *just* started happening more this year? Yes that’s right- Osc became more open to his relationship with Lily. He posts her more. He even tags him now. Literally the exact same plan as what my auntie did with the nba player. My guess/theory is they are going to gently open Lily to the public more. I think they are doing this delicately because this girl is not just some pr girl. This is actually Oscar’s gf for 5 yrs. So i think they are being very cautious about it. I predict that we will soon hear her voice and listen to her talk a little. Maybe just a short one but we will soon get to know her better (in a controlled way because i really think that Oscar and her want to keep their rs private).

But I agree. My auntie said that letting a longterm gf remain in the background and be mysterious is actually going to fuel more obsession. So giving the public just little bits of her and allowing them to get to know her personality better is a much better plan. It’s like eating small meals throughout the day rather than skipping meals and then binging at night. It also allows the gf to be less of an idea and more of a real person. Keeping Lily this “idea” can quickly become this overly sweet and toxic deification of her. She’s not an idea. She’s a person.

Also, it really helps with Oscar’s image. Trust. It also going to keep him out of the “gossips” and crazy fangirl interest/obsession. Since they like Lily and they like the fact that Oscar has been with her for 5 yrs, they are most likely going to not be romantically obsessed with him. They are going to adore the fact that he’s a wholesome guy and how lucky lily is to have a man like him. Instead of obsessing to be his gf. Something like that.

Also remember Nico Rosberg? Before he married his wife, he was with her for years and years. He is a party boy and yet we dont really associate him with the party scene the way we do with single Lewis. Lewis said Nico is more of a party animal than him and yet Nico rarely got that image. It’s cause the public knows him as someone who’s been in long term relationship. So Oscar’s team opening Lily more to the public (again in a controlled way) is good not only in making Lily less of an idea and more of a real person to the public, but also Oscar’s image. It keeps the crazies and speculations away.

NO TYSM ANON <3<3 fr like I've always been invested in how the women partners to famous men are treated in any fandom and it's always seemed by far the best tactic to offer up a little bit of contextualizing her into the fandom space - while maintaining a healthy distance for her own safety/sanity - and then before you know it she's fully accepted and all the delulus move on to another rpf ship or another man they want to pretend they could somehow have for themselves.

"less of an idea and more of a real person" EXACTLY. like god of course she wants to keep people as much out of her business as possible and if ppl could be sane and normal then the ideal would to continue as is. but a part of keeping those boundaries from being pushed by fans is a controlled release of content rather than nothing at all. I'm hoping that's what is being built up.

and I totally forgot yea that he'd added a sm manager and that the opeightyone acc has become more active in the same way LN4 is where content can be released through those channels as opposed to their personal accs. I feel like apart from when his humor and sarcasm means that it's clearly him (and the emojis lol) he's pulled back for the most part from his public accs. it's a shame bc we won't get to see those interactions with other drivers anymore but w how much fame doesn't suit him it was probably inevitable!

one thing i like about the new job is that public service really drives home how diverse and interesting any random sample of people actually is. you kind of can't keep thinking that there's one single way in which ordinary life typically goes when you're dropped into the middle of other people's lives on a daily basis. like within two weeks at a public service job in the most boring town imaginable someone will come in and be like hi i'm blind, can i have some adjustments for my advanced degree. hi my grandmother died, can i have an extension. hi i moved here from taiwan literally two months ago and misunderstood some instructions, can i repeat this process. hi i'm competing at the olympics, can i put my studies on hold.

there's just this certain kind of rhetoric that wants to make you belive that A Normal Person is this or that and their life goes this or that way, when really there's no limit to the chaos of human experience or to the endlessly new-shuffled variations of Circumstances and i'd defy anyone who believes otherwise to keep believing it after one day in public service

Solar Geoengineering: What is It, Why People Support It, and How to Make It Safer

What is Solar Geoengineering?

Have you ever felt hopelessness over global leaders’ failure to stop global warming? There may be a new way to slow global warming that can be implemented easier than you’d expect. Solar Geoengineering (SG) is “solar radiation management which attempts to increase reflection of solar radiation away from the earth in order to slow [global] warming.” The 2 primary types of SG are stratospheric aerosol injection (achieved by releasing reflective particles like sulfate aerosols into the atmosphere) and marine cloud brightening (achieved by “spraying sea water into the lower atmosphere to generate brighter, more reflective clouds”). SG is increasingly mentioned by scientists as a way to combat climate change. SG’s appealing qualities include its low implementation cost, little opposition to it from industries, and the likelihood of it having fast cooling effects on the planet. However, as you might have guessed, SG also comes with significant risks. How and where SG will change climate patterns is unknown, and it could reduce ozone in the atmosphere, which is critical for preventing harmful UV radiation from reaching earth. Additionally, while SG will lower global temperatures, it doesn’t address the root cause of climate change, which is GHG emissions. It won’t reduce other harmful effects of GHGs either, such as air pollution and ocean acidification. But perhaps most scarily, an increased reliance on SG could lead to something called “termination shock.” Termination shock would cause a rapid and extreme rise in global warming if SG were to be deployed, but suddenly terminated, due to failing technologies.

Why are Some Actors Hoping to Pursue SG as a Climate Change Mitigation Strategy? 

Despite its risks, some governments are looking at SG precisely because of its almost immediate impact on temperature reduction and ease of deployment. It’s probable that present mitigation efforts under the Paris Agreement won’t be enough to hinder catastrophic climate change. On October 24, 2024, the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) reported  that collectively, countries have made no progress tackling climate change. Their report said:

"As greenhouse gas emissions rose to a new high of 57.1 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023, the cuts required from today are larger; 7.5 per cent must be shaved off emissions every year until 2035 for 1.5°C. Current promises are nowhere near these levels, putting us on track for best-case global warming of 2.6°C this century and necessitating future costly and large-scale removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to bring down the overshoot."

SG is not mentioned among the possible solutions that could reverse this dire trend by UNEP in the report. However, several actors are considering it anyway. In the U.S., the company Make Sunsets has already begun deployment of balloons that release sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. President Biden also released an executive order directing all agencies to research SG, calling it “One of the most promising [climate change mitigation] strategies.” Despite SG having garnered opposition from the international community, it’s looking increasingly likely that some countries will use it in the near future.

What Needs to be Done to Make Solar Geoengineering as Safe as Possible? 

Given the likelihood of the planet warming above what global leaders hoped for, they may need to further explore SG, but not without limitations on how it’s used. There needs to be comprehensive national guidelines on SG to prevent it from causing transboundary harm. Both NASA and the EPA in their proposed rulemakings responding to the executive order stated that they intend to create grant programs for SG research and use the data gathered to shape their future SG policies. Data collection on SG is a good start. Additionally, the agencies responding to President Biden’s executive order on SG should ensure that SG will not be subsidized at the expense of safer GHG mitigation efforts. Both NASA and the EPA should use their grant programs to place contingencies on SG research that will make actors do an equivalent amount of GHG mitigation. It doesn’t matter whether the agencies provide the money for an equivalent amount of GHG mitigation, or require applicants use their own funds. Agencies just need to ensure that SG is a supplementary rather than alternative method to combat climate change. Then agencies will reduce impacts of climate change other than temperature rise, and the severity of termination shock from possible SG cessation. I used to be very hashtag progressive and accepting etc etc and became a transmed last year because I got to the point where a “genderfuck” was trying to convince me that wanting to live life as a stealth man and have people assume my gender was transphobic and hurtful etc etc, I found the transmed community which honestly has been super supportive as a trans guy and given me spaces for binary trans men only I never got in the more #progressive spaces
