Everyone deserves broadband! Renew the Affordable Connectivity Program.
904 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
The Affordable Connectivity Program has been a critical lifeline for millions of Americans, providing essential access to high-speed internet. This program has enabled students to continue their education remotely, allowed adults to work from home, facilitated tele-health services, and ensured that individuals remain connected to their loved ones during challenging times. As the expiration date of the ACP approaches, I am deeply concerned about the potential loss of these vital services for those who need them the most. The expiration of this program would disproportionately impact low-income households, exacerbate the digital divide, and hinder our nation's progress towards ensuring universal access to high-speed internet. Therefore, I strongly urge Congress to act swiftly and renew the Affordable Connectivity Program. This renewal is not just a matter of maintaining the status quo but a step forward in building a more connected, inclusive, and equitable society. By renewing this program, Congress will demonstrate its commitment to bridging the digital divide and supporting the ongoing needs of all Americans in the digital age. Thanks.

But initially only with text messages Starlink will launch Direct Cell service for direct communication between smartphones and satellites next year.   [caption id="attachment_66857" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Starlink Direct To Cell service[/caption] Initially, it was planned to launch it this year, but apparently, something didn’t work out. Let us remind you that this is a joint project between SpaceX and T-Mobile. That is, the service will be available only in the USA and only to users of the above mobile operator. But SpaceX has already struck similar deals with other operators in other countries, including Optus in Australia, Rogers in Canada, KDDI in Japan, One NZ in New Zealand, and Salt in Switzerland.   Starlink Direct To Cell service will launch in 2024 It's also worth keeping in mind that next year it will only be possible to send and receive text messages, but the ability to make calls directly via satellites will appear only in 2025, along with support for data transfer.  In addition, it should be noted that the connection will be implemented via LTE networks, so it is not yet clear what speeds will be available. However, earlier it was said about 2–4 Mbit/s within a “cell”.  The advantage of this solution is that the user does not need any special equipment. Not the latest smartphones will do either.

Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) has secured a significant $35 million grant to bring high-speed broadband to underserved communities in Alaska. The project, which is part of the larger Alaska FiberOptic Project, aims to establish a 100% fiber-based network in three villages: Venetie, Chalkyitsik, and Circle.
The Alaska FiberOptic Project is a collaborative effort involving several key entities, including Calista Corporation, Doyon, Limited, Gana-A ‘Yoo Limited, Tanana Chiefs Conference, and Alaska Communications. This initiative intends to connect over 20 communities in Alaska's Yukon and Kuskokwim regions, starting from Fairbanks and extending all the way to the Bering Sea Coast. The network will begin in Fort Yukon and stretch to Venetie, with a submarine fiber cable to be laid in the Yukon River, connecting Fort Yukon and Circle. The result will be Gigabit-speed internet access for residents and businesses through fiber-to-the-home connections.
The lack of reliable connectivity has long been a barrier to progress in education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and overall well-being for Alaska's rural communities. Brian Ridley, Chief and Chairman of Tanana Chiefs Conference, emphasized the importance of addressing this digital divide and expressed gratitude for the grant. He highlighted the collaboration with Native Corporation partners, government entities, and Alaska Communications in working toward digital equity for Alaska Native Villages.
