Genuinely thinking about the funniest interpretation of the Simurgh bringing the Travellers into Earth Bet being that she just lost a League of Legends match against them and literally attacked them out of rage.
Like she just has subtly adjusted a bunch of satellites to have interdimensional wifi and mostly uses that to further complex plans across reality but occasionally she dabbles in human culture as like. Assessment and so she is telepathically playing League while discretely being an entire team by herself just to sort of loosely test strategy and then the Travellers end up in a match with her while training for their whole eSports thing and manage to somehow defeat her despite her knowledge and she tries to Sing to them over voice but they all have the in game audio muted for focus so she can't making her Physically Get Them instead to try and figure it how they bested her. The rest of what happens to them is kinda incidental. She just set all of the serum stuff up because she thought it was funny

are all the 2025 rookies like jack? :/
I'll be honest I suspect not even Jack's really like that in that I'm sure, yes, he does think women should vote and does not think people with butterfly tattoos are possessed. I think he probably, like most of them, barely actually looks at his "own" tiktok. his marketing is done by the Owlpine Group (HILARIOUS name I must say) and they will have followed a bunch of big accounts.
a good social media manager will have vetted those accounts to make sure they're not batshit flat earthers claiming aliens built pyramids in Serbia or redpill misogynists or whatever. but a lot of them aren't good and don't realise people look at this stuff or that it matters.
Owlpine are a few people who were presumably assembled specifically to do Jack's marketing. they're from his hometown and they're probably family friends. they may have no background in this sort of thing, let alone when it's personal accounts under this sort of scrutiny.
my mate Rosie, who runs 115dgrs and previously was a founder of wearegrip, has to go through the follows every time she takes on a new account and does it personally, doesn't delegate it to her staff because it is so important and she knows that. but a lot of people don't and think it's important to just follow some big accounts to make it look like it's a real, used account not just something set up and used exclusively by a marketing agency.
drivers using their mates for their social media is as prolific as esports teams using their girlfriends as their PR/managers and about as successful. while there have been a couple of wags who've turned out to know how to run a business in a very cut-throat, complex world and a few mates who've discovered a talent for tiktoks, it's a huge risk not to go to professionals who spend all their time thinking about and reading up on all this sort of thing.
but yeah, no idea honestly. they all seem like nice, earnest lads - generally, drivers I've spoken too have been on the good end of people. some of them are dicks but they tend to announce that fairly loudly (Ferrucci) and some of them can be dicks even if they aren't fundamentally horrible (Verstappen) but as a rule they're fairly earnest about wanting to do the right thing.

Guuuuuurl I am a "professional game designer" (not bragging, it's a silly nonsense job that doesn't pay well) and I WISH our target audience was half as good at games as you.
If every player was anywhere near as good as games as you are we would be making much harder games with a lot less handholding and a lot more complex mechanics.
One of the things new designers have to unlearn is what is "intuitive" in game design because the average game designer is far more game/media literate than the average player.
And watching you stream, you're probably more game literate than the average game designer, even. This makes sense when you think about it; the average game designer spends most of the work day making games rather than playing them, and they tend not to have the breadth of genres.
And that's ANOTHER thing; speedrunners or eSports professionals or whatever are usually amazingly good at one game; streamers tend to be good at many many different genres of games, and still far better than the average consumer.
You guys know I used to be a game designer too, right? I went to college and stuff. I quit cause I hate deadlines but I still have the design stuff and technical knowledge in my head. That probably has to do with it.

I just finished Triage and was pretty impressed with the plot. Altho I mostly love love-centered BLs/QLs, it made me realize I really like plot-heavy ones (especially action/thriller/mystery) if they're done well. Can you look through what I've seen and let me know if I'm missing any good ones?
Ones I thought succeeded to varying extents: Triage, Not Me, Manner of Death, 3 Will Be Free, The Eclipse, Pit Babe, The Sign
Ones I thought fell short plot-wise (but still kinda appreciated for trying): KinnPorsche, Playboyy, Laws of Attraction
(And I've seen others with actiony/mystery plots but I consider the romantic plot to be more dominant so I don't think of them the same way: Long Time No See, Candy Colored Paradox, Kiseki Dear to Me, Never Let Me Go etc...hope that makes my ask clearer....)
Thanks! Appreciate you!
I live for this shit!
Plot heavy (driven) BL/QL
(external motivation)
Liked:
Triage *
Not Me *
Manner of Death *
3 Will Be Free *
The Eclipse
Pit Babe
The Sign
The ones I put an * by are ones that I barely consider BL because they are so very plot heavy.
It's Okay:
KinnPorsche
Playboyy
Laws of Attraction
Also seen, but more romance
Long Time No See
Candy Colored Paradox
Kiseki Dear to Me
Never Let Me Go
Hum, difficult, because I see very little difference between Pit Babe and KP and Kiseki. So I'm gonna spitball a bunch of BL that edges into gay romantic suspense (or in some cases horror / PNR) and see if any hit. These will mostly be Thailand, only Taiwan also dabbles in this sub-genre, and rarely (because of the expense).
He's Coming to Me
Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Your Soul (similar team as Triage so def worth trying, it's PNR tho)
Great Men Academy (an odd pick but I think it might work for you)
HIStory 3: Trapped (the first one I thought of after reading your ask)
Golden Blood
To Sir, With Love (more of a soap opera)
Because of You
Ghost Host Ghost House (more horror than suspense)
Chinese stuff:
My Esports Genius Brother (it's WILD)
Word of Honor (censored)
The Untamed (censored)
Guardian (censored)
SCI Mysteries (censored)
Advance Bravely (censored)
Legend of Long Yang: Rebirth
This is one of the few times I'll rec this because this is kinda China's BL speciality and one of the many reasons the censorship is so annoying. Their product is quality... sigh. Bummer it also has to be evil.
Not as much suspense + action but stil external motivation + complex plot (earned romantic threads)
AKA Korea can play, too.
Color Rush
Until We Meet Again
Love For Love's Sake
I Feel You Linger in the Air
La Pluie
Unintentional Love Story
Tinted With You
Vice Versa
My Dear Gangster Oppa
DNA Says Love You
Be My Favorite
Stay By My Side
Two Worlds
The End Of The World, With You AKA Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu
First Love Again
Twins
Oh! My Sunshine Night
Cupid's Last Wish
Absolute Zero
So Much In Love (PULP warning)
(These tend to be my personal favorite style of BL. Although some are much less successful than others, in order with best ones at the top.)
#Plot heavy (driven) BL/QL#plot heavy bl#gay romantic suspense#gay pnr#chinese bl#thai bl#taiwanese bl

Huh, Jin is enigmatic? There's literally nothing difficult to interpret or mysterious about Jin. He's the typical angsty emo edgy 90's mama's boi who's obsessed with revenge and we know everything about his backstory and why he hates the Mishima bloodline (like Cloud Strife from FFVII or Spawn from the Image Comics. Edgelords were a big thing in the 90's). If anything his mother Jun is the definition of enigmatic, she's literally Tekken's most mysterious character. Kazuya is also more mysterious than Jin too, and way more complex too. Heihachi also can be considered enigmatic too, we ponder why he threw Kaz off the cliff that day in Tekken 7. Not to mention he isn't exactly a good tragic anti-hero either. His "trauma" isn't good enough. His mother Jun of course comes back from the dead. He has supportive friends like Hwoarang and Xiaoyu. There's his devil gene, except turns out the Devil Gene was his protector all along. I'm not the biggest fan of Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto unlike that one crazy anon who wanted to ship him with Ling Xiaoyu, but at least even I can admit Sasuke's trauma is legit and understandable. Sasuke is a child abuse victim (just like Kazuya, Sasuke was also brutally abused by his brother Itachi who tortured him), survived the homicide/genocide of his own bloodline/people, watched his parents die a million times, he had to learn to cook and clean for himself where his parents died, his brother abuses him again and puts him through a genjutsu again after he finally gets stability in his life while his rival Naruto just watches him getting jumped by his brother, his parents NEVER come back to life, and he also ends up being a child soldier for Konoha a ninja village which quite frankly doesn't give a crap about kids dying in war that adults started. Jin's "trauma" is losing his precious mommy who was alive the whole time and a devil gene which turned out to actually be his protector. There's almost nothing appealing about Jin personality-wise or story-wise. Jin is such a badly written protagonist, honestly be real with yourself and admit you only like him because of his gameplay and his design which you want to look up r34 of.
Normally I'm not a fan of reboots, but Tekken is one of the few franchises that desperately needs one at this point with all the plot holes and inconsistencies. Hell, Soul Calibur rebooted after the fifth game almost killed the series so why not Tekken? Sadly, I don't think that's gonna happen. Bandai Namco would rather continue to milk their esports cash cow golden goose that is Tekken. Tekken is gonna end up being the fighting game genre equivalent of One Piece or The Simpsons - it's never gonna end. They'll just keep constantly introducing new Mishimas like they have in each new game since Tekken 6. Honestly, I won't be surprised if even One Piece actually comes to an end before the Mishima storyline finally comes to an end (which should've ended in the fourth game or fifth game imo).
Why is emo always used derogatorily? And I find his bond with his mother a beautiful thing, mainly because Jun is a mother who is actually good unlike many in fiction and in real life.
But answering your first question, Jin is enigmatic because he, while not as quiet as Raven or Sergei, doesn't talk much about his thoughts or feelings and it's proven sometimes that he expresses facially the opposite of what he feels, like looking like people are annoying him but then later remembering every single moment as special in his fight with Kazuya and before.
Something that applies to your criticisms is that you focus too much on comparisons. Heihachi, Kazuya and Jun being enigmatic in different ways doesn't mean that Jin isn't, and it gets worse at the "not good enough" trauma, and in quotations.
First, his mother, with whom he always had a loving relationship, was attacked by the Ogre and seemingly died, later (maybe) he had the luck of finding she was alive (it's not 100% confirmed, though it's likely), but it doesn't erase the tragedy and his suffering. Later, his grandfather, who he trusted and liked, revealed to be a monster and shot him in the head, while failing to kill him, he activated within him a strange creature with harmful tendencies which don't necessarily apply just to the evil. Surviving, he was forced to leave, cut ties with friends, live in Australia presumably isolated for two years, hating his family, his blood and even himself for this phenomenon he did not understand, struggling not to commit evil, forced by his demon later to hurt and almost kill Hwoarang who is one of the few people he is close to, and deceived by an ancient monster into destroying the world. However terrible his actions were, he was always willing to pay for that and had the plan of dying after. Isn't this all bad enough?
Just because certain characters had it worse (hard to compare at times) it doesn't make his suffering and struggles less real.
I have all these reasons to like him, and I understand not all share. You evidently don't like him (and you don't even like much of Tekken for that matter) but besides what I said, it doesn't make him poorly written. A character doesn't need to have one very specific kind of storyline to be valid.
Tekken might be very Mishima-focused, but that's what the story revolves around since the days of Tekken 1.

I'm old. Well, middle aged. But that doesn't change the fact that many things are in fact more shitty nowadays.
Movies are lit like shit so everything is too dark and washed out. Mixed like shit so you have to put on subtitles even if you're a native speaker. Much more is recorded using greenscreens, so in addition to being bad in the above way, the lighting and sound is also flat because the final composition of a scene is not known when shooting. CGI artists are working in terrible conditions, so films from twenty years ago like Pirates of the Caribbean have effects that mog most things released nowadays. There's also just fewer movies released.
The music is slower, the lyrics are measurably less complex and more repetitive.
The series are paced like shit because the assumption is that you're going to binge it anyway, so the effective result is an 8-10hr movie. It takes multiple years to film a single season so actors lose interest or age out of roles. There's a vicious circle in which audiences don't want to watch the show because it might get canceled and unresolved, and producers demand immediate record views, which they don't get so shows end up canceled and unresolved. The CGI is somehow even worse than in movies. Also everything's fragmented between gazillion services.
AAA games have budgets bloated even beyond those of films and tv, so every studio needs to play it safe with a cinematic open world experience, with a skill ceiling that's not too high. Multiplayer balance is overtuned to the most competitive esport players, and you can't host locally with your friends. Even the successful studios are constantly on the bring of death because the self-imposed fidelity demands mean that every game takes 5 years to make and needs to be a smash hit, so the niche series lay unused in IP hell. There are baked-in assumption that patching is easy, so many games release in a state that's hardly playable out of the gate.
I don't read enough contemporary books to have an informed opinion on the landscape, but the audience does seem to be overrun with people who treat books primarily like disjointed trope delivery mechanisms.
None of the above is me being somehow envious of the zoomers' youth. I don't envy them, I feel sorry for them, for having to deal with this as their formative experiences.

ah the strategical esports player. kokichi.
you had a day1 plan that didn’t hold up for a day 60 process
now if i was as sensitive as him id never write about this but idk wanted to air out my thoughts bc every esports player had it hard but kokichi in particular crumbled under those expectations.
and in a competition . when all eyes are on him because of his very complex strategy that is completely optimized to take the biggest risk.
the biggest challenge that would have everyone against him . risks stacking up into a big pile that isn’t eventually becomes unmanageable. and kokichi is pulling through it alone
that he’d laugh through it alone. ignoring gonta and miu, he just needed the extra security and provisions but he really was on his own
and so he would try to divert the attention onto literally anyone else. distract from any close examination of what exactly kokichi is getting at.
because even if he lies and tries to be confusing on purpose about it
if you stare at kokichi’s plan for too long it only stays confusing for so long.
hence doubling down being menace on main. that keeping ppl emotionally occupied means that no one has to pick apart kokichi’s words. because why should anyone believe or examine what he has to say?
he’s ridiculing people. he’s criticizing people. he’s being unhelpful.
. look the other way so he can buy more time to set his risky plan in action. that he might have to sacrifice himself because that apparently was the risk he was willing to take.
and playing it too risky. leaves room for mistakes if you don’t take action.
and with gonta uncompensated for trying to get things under his control. managed to slip through those cracks.
the poorly structured team was never meant to last in long term.
high risk high reward approaches means you have to get over with this as fast as possible. and kokichi took too long trying to prevent the inevitable.
basically if kokichi didn’t take action so late in the game then he would have won.
he had everything he needed and then let his chance slip by trying to force a actually decent short term strategy and trying to stretch it too far and thin into a drag of a narrative that it just. doesn’t work?
and he doesn’t know where he went wrong because he doesn’t have the time to reflect on that because there’s never time in a killing game to learn from your mistakes bc once ur shot is gone you end up dead.
he definitely had the adaptability to switch up his approach but he still cared more about his current approach being right one. in typical v3 fashion
but shuichi might have realized it. as much as he doesn’t really know kokichi.
if he takes his time to examine everything then he can understand that the strategy that has been considered was never developed or transformed into anything else on the way.
kokichi has been stuck at day1 and his plan expired the moment kaede died. a plan that now exists because OF kaede’s death.
kokichi has no experience but his narrative and strategy is supposed to teach people to handle conflict. something that needed to be addressed before kaede died.
that kaede inspired kokichi to start such a strategy in the first place
and that since navigating conflict was no longer a option for most people seeing it’s what killed kaede.
and nobody knew better. not even kokichi
but at least the esport players passed their batons even if they hardly ever talked to eachother
from kaede to kokichi.
from continuing conflict overcoming challenge
from tenko to tsumugi.
from being dismissed and forced to surrender
