$1 Million Worth of Gold Coins Stolen From 18th-Century Shipwrecks Found
After an extensive investigation, Florida officials recovered dozens of gold coins valued at more than $1 million that were stolen from a shipwreck recovery nine years ago.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced in a news release Tuesday it had recovered 37 gold coins that were stolen from the 1715 Fleet shipwrecks.
The fleet of Spanish ships sailed from Havana, Cuba and headed to Seville, Spain on July 24, 1715. The journey was short-lived, as a hurricane wrecked the fleet just seven days later off the coast of Eastern Florida.
The first ship was discovered in 1928 by William Beach north of Fort Pierce, Florida, about 120 miles south of Orlando. Since then, gold and silver artifacts have been recovered offshore for decades following the first discovery.
In 2015, a group of contracted salvage operators found a treasure trove of 101 gold coins from the wrecks near Florida’s Treasure Coast, about 112 miles west of Orlando. However, only half of the coins were reported correctly. The other 50 coins were not disclosed and later stolen.
The years-long investigation by the state’s fish and wildlife conservation commission and FBI “into the theft and illegal trafficking of these priceless historical artifacts” came to a head when new evidence emerged in June, the news release said.
The evidence linked Eric Schmitt to the illegal sale of multiple stolen gold coins in 2023 and 2024, officials said. Schmitt’s family had been contracted to work as salvage operators for the US District Courts’ custodian and salvaging company for the fleet, 1715 Fleet - Queens Jewels, LLC. The Schmitts had uncovered the 101 gold coins in 2015.
During their hunt for the coins, investigators executed multiple search warrants and recovered coins from private residences, safe deposit boxes and auctions, the news release said. Five stolen coins were retrieved from a Florida-based auctioneer, who unknowingly purchased them from Schmitt.
Investigators used advanced digital forensics to nail down Schmitt as a suspect in the case. In most cases, digital forensics can recover data stored electronically on devices such as a cell phone, computer system or memory module.
With the help of advanced digital forensics, investigators identified metadata and geolocation data that linked Schmitt to a photograph of the stolen coins taken at the Schmitt family condominium in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Authorities said Schmitt also took three of the stolen gold coins and put them on the ocean floor in 2016. The coins were later found by the new investors of the fleet’s court custodian and salvaging company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout the investigation, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission worked closely with historical preservation experts to authenticate and appraise the recovered coins sold by Schmitt.
Schmitt is facing charges for dealing in stolen property, the release says.
The company commissioned to salvage the shipwreck said in a statement it “was shocked and disappointed by this theft and has worked closely with law enforcement and the state of Florida regarding this matter.”
“We take our responsibilities as custodian very seriously and will always seek to enforce the laws governing these wrecks,” the statement read.
Recovered artifacts will be returned to their rightful custodians, the news release said. But the investigation is far from over: 13 coins remain missing.

I’ve mentioned a few times that the Detective Club doesn’t seem to have any named members outside Logico and the Murdle Jr. kids (Irratino, I HC as an associate instead of a full member, and I sincerely doubt they’d let any of the suspects save maybe Obsidian in :P). So! Have some OCs to fill out the ranks.
More about each under the cut:
Journalist Jade
5’5, Right-Handed, Brown Eyes, Black Hair, Aquarius
Jade is a 30-year old investigative journalist, taking to the streets to look for headliners and expose crimes for all the world to see. She’s passionate and can be a bit reckless in her pursuit of a big story, but she’s overall a nice person. She’s also the one who originally invited Logico to the Detective Club (in my mental list of Stories I Want To Write Someday, one of them is how Logico became part of the Detective Club—TL;DR, he wound up working with Jade to expose some criminals and she gave him the invite shortly thereafter), and might have had a bit of a crush on him—he’s fairly handsome despite his overall scruffiness, and they worked well together—but obviously, that went nowhere on account of Logico being both not into women and also a major-league jerk pre-Volume 1 :P
Overall, I’d say Jade’s drawing turned out the best; the design was nice, and translated into my artstyle rather well. I accidentally drew her hair a lot shorter than I’d originally intended, and I completely forgot the camera until I was already outlining and had to hastily add it in, but I’d say it all worked out in the end. Her style suits her ^^
Forensic Analyst Bella
5’3, Left-Handed, Brown Eyes, Red Hair, Gemini
Bella is 26, yet in many ways, she acts like a high school popular girl; chatty, fashionable, gossipy, phone-obsessed, and just a bit mean. One would think someone like that would have no place in the Detective Club, but Bella graduated valedictorian of her college and is a known forensics expert. She can tell you when someone died and what poison was used to kill them as easily as she can tell you whether or not your shoes are “in” this summer.
Bella was actually the first Detective Club OC I designed; the forensics part came later, to give her more an identity beyond “Detective Club member”. I like her sunglasses, and her being the only one who carries a walkie-talkie in addition to a phone; ya gotta be prepared when solving crimes. (Oh, and in case you’re thinking I broke the color name rule…I didn’t. Yeah, maybe using a color named by a paint company is cheating, but oh well. I was originally going to use magenta, but then I figured I should probably pick a color less likely to be given to a canon character ^^;)
IT Guy Auburn
5’8, Right-Handed, Brown Eyes, Red Hair, Virgo
Auburn used to work for TekCo, before leaving the company following an “incident” he doesn’t talk about; at 29, he’s just a year younger than its current CEO. While introverted and socially awkward at the best of times, he’s a whiz with computers; if the mystery leaves some digital footprints behind, you go to him. (That his skills are upstaged by a detective in the junior group—the daughter of that aforementioned CEO, no less—is something Auburn awkwardly avoids acknowledging.)
Okay, so I found quite a few color codes for “auburn”; I wound up picking the most common two and using them for his headphones and jacket respectively, which is probably the best compromise I could’ve made ^^; I think I got the “tech guy” look down pretty well, even if he does look a bit more like a gamer than anything else. (I’m sure Olivia would beat him in that regard too :P)
Socialite Vanille
5’0, Right-Handed, Blue Eyes, Blonde Hair, Pisces
At 23, Vanille is one of the Detective Club’s younger members, and also one of its few wealthy members. She comes from high society, and looks and acts the part. Some look down on her as just a rich kid with no actual skills. Vanille simply smiles, because social skills—telling people what they want to hear, getting them to trust you, figuring out who you can and can’t trust yourself—get you very far in an investigation. (Someone should let Logico know that :P)
Vanille’s design admittedly didn’t translate as well as everyone else’s did, mostly because I didn’t actually realize the color of her hair and jacket were so close. And also because after three drawings of decent hands, I got cocky and thought I could do a complicated pose with her hat. Don’t be like me, kids :V I do still like her, though. She’s the first character I’ve ever drawn in a skirt or dress XD And yes, as her name implies, she is French. You can get a surprising amount of OCs through translating colors into foreign languages (looks at Logico’s maternal relatives).
Codebreaker Clover
5’6, Left-Handed, Gray Eyes, Blonde Hair, Scorpio
Clover is 31 (though you’d be forgiven for thinking he was younger), brilliant with cryptography, and kind of a wreck. No one really knows what made him so twitchy and paranoid, or where he learned his codebreaking skills, though some believe the two things are connected. Clover himself thinks everything is connected; everything has a purpose, everything is part of some plan, and everyone is somehow involved. His conspiracy theories are legendary throughout the club, and most of them are known to be complete nonsense. (The rest…well, maybe it’s best not to dig too deep.)
Like Bella, Clover originally had another name—Cyan—before, again, I changed it to one less likely to be used in canon. He also had a couple different titles—first Conspiracist when I wanted to emphasize the “wild paranoiac conspiracy theorist” thing, then Cryptographer when I settled on what he actually did, then Codebreaker because Cryptographer was too similar to Cloud’s title :P He also has the most complicated pair of glasses I’ve ever drawn. I think they came out nicely ^^
Parapsychologist Pitch
5’5, Left-Handed, Green Eyes, Black Hair, Sagittarius
Nobody’s quite sure what Pitch does. Or, frankly, what they’re doing here. 27 years old, they have a love for the macabre and a fascination with the paranormal, and every case they take is some flavor of spooky. One would think they’d fit in better with the Investigation Institute, but they just say they like hands-on experience more than sitting in a chateau doing experiments. They’re fairly chill outside that, if enigmatic at the best of times; they might be playing up their strange behavior to spook people, though. You can never really tell with Pitch.
Pitch originated as an Investigation Institute OC, before I decided I liked the Institute’s actual characters better and repurposed them for the Detective Club :P I do really like their design, though. I love their dyed hair and eyeliner (yes, the points on their eyes are meant to represent eyeliner) and goth outfit. Fun fact: The words on their shirt, if you can’t read it, are “Cinematic Anarchy”. Yes, it is a band shirt. Yes, I came up with that name myself. And yes, it is very edgy :P
Anyway, that’s my characters, they aren’t Logico’s friend group because Logico barely has any friends but they do fill empty space where the rest of the Detective Club is, so. There’s that :P

criminal minds 18x02 initial thoughts (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS)
tara/rebecca sex scene whoaaaaa, NIIICE. it's so awesome that aisha got to direct this episode so she got a lot of control over this scene. I'm so happy for Tara even if i'd rather she be with Emily lol.
get your tomatoes and rocks ready for throwing bc I am enjoying the continued Voit storyline hahaha. I laughed SO HARD when Voit called Rossi dad, oh my GOD. it's KILLING me that Rossi has to ROLEPLAY AS VOIT'S DAD AJkslkjdskaldjsla the Voit torture on Rossi WILL NEVER END. And Voit was so twisted mentally by Rossi that even through his amensia he recognizes the connection they have. It's sooo funny! And just fucking perfect, Voit is the biggest thorn in rossi's side and I love it.
As for voit's amnesia, I went into this season thinking he was probably faking it and now I don't think he's faking it, so what I think will happen is he will start to regain his memories, but since he has empathy now he will struggle to come to terms with who he is and feel guilty about it. (And Luke will continue to think he's a big fakey liar man hahahaha)
cute scene with Penelope and JJ. <3 Pen offering to make Michael's birthday cake and JJ calling her "Mistress Penelope Grace" was so cute.
Tyler my cute bb boy, an official member of the team now <3 turns out all they had to do was pull like one tiny string (because come on, the BAU, jewel of the FBI, can get pretty much anything they want). "Big boy bullets" ahahaha. and then he couldn't keep the unsub from killing himself and he just felt sooo guilty about it. shhh, come to me, Tyty, I will take away the pain.
TARA GETTING TO USE HER FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY SKILLS! yayyyyyy!
no real Garvez this episode :( pretty much what was got was the equivalent of the promo photo of them standing next to each other, but hey, THEY WERE STANDING NEXT TO EACH OTHER
there were a few Penelope and Tyler scenes which I am choosing to allow because I feel like they were there just to show that there is zero sexual whatever between them anymore, they're just coworkers and friends now, yup yup yupppp. Unfortch Tyler is also a computer expert (although obviously not as good as Penelope) so they would team up when it comes to computer things. though I did not enjoy Tyler offering to watch the torture porn so Penelope wouldn't have to, EXCUSE ME, THAT'S LUKE'S JOB. hmph
good creepy fucked up unsub of the week, and I prefer the serialized aspect to Evolution so I am really glad that at least the unsub of the week is still connected to the larger Voit/network storyline. I'm so curious to know what happens next!
they've mentioned BAUgate multiple times so I just now it'll become important at some time this season. poor JJ. she's getting mentally DESTROYED this season D:
and of course, will. :( I wasn't really shocked but it's just because I knewwwww it was coming. I personally don't have a problem with how it went down. sometimes.. people just die, senselessly, randomly. I knew this (death related to his earlier cancer scare) would be a possibility so I kind of made my peace with this potential outcome a while ago. it's horrible any time a character dies from being murdered, I mean, that just adds an extra layer or 5 of trauma for the characters. random death at least is.. natural? idk. in any case I think the next episode is where it's really gonna hit home. watching JJ grieve is gonna be terribleeeeeee.

Big, if true. Elon Musk daims DOGE is uncovering all kinds of waste and fraud, outrageous scams perpetrated on the American people. These scams are so blatant and obvious that even youngsters untrained in forensic accounting can find them in moments. (The implication is that federal workers, who are experts in their fields, are either too stupid to have seen them or irredeemably corrupt.) Look at the Social Security Administration, for example. Musk posted that his minions had found more than 20 million entries in the database with ages over 100 years old, including millions of people listed as over 150. It's "the biggest fraud in history," he said.
Except, of course, it's nothing of the sort. Because of a coding quirk in the vintage computer program the agency uses, an unknown birth date defaults to 1875, 150 years ago. These people are listed in the system, but they aren't receiving Social Security checks - as a 2023 inspector general's report had already concluded. In reality, only some 44,000 centenarians are alive and receiving checks, a figure that jibes with census data. And while there are certainly some fake numbers, even the conservative Cato Institute says those are mostly illegal immigrants who use them to get jobs, which means they pay into the system but get nothing out of it.
What else has DOGE turned up? White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was eager to tell us, saying last week, "love to bring the receipts!" But the only examples she offered were a few programs related to equity and inclusion, such as a $3 million Patent and Trademark Office program offering internships to minority inventors, and a $57,000 award for climate mitigation in Sri Lanka. Those may go against current administration priorities, but they certainly don't amount to fraud, since the money for them was duly appropriated by Congress. And cutting them will hardly engender significant savings in a $7 trillion budget. You know who does know how to find waste and fraud? The inspectors general in our government agencies. Alas, Trump fired them all.

## What’s a Cyber Forensic Investigator?
Master post - part 1 • part 2
You must have heard bout forensics yk investigating bout dead people who might have been killed and all
You must have seen shows on those topics too.Cyber forensic investigator is just of same kind but investigating through all types of modern gadgets.
Catching hackers and all but cooler
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
### The Money Talk: How Much Do They Make?
- **Cash Money**: Expect to rake in about $60k to $120k a year. If you are very much experienced and skilled then you can expect about 150k+ a year.(obv different countries and companies may have different wages)
### Companies That Want You
- **Tech Titans**: Google, Amazon, Facebook—they all have requirement for such heroes
- **Gov Jobs**: FBI, CIA—basically every spy agency wants you.
- **Cybersecurity Firms**: CrowdStrike, McAfee—so every gateway you go you gonna have opportunities everywhere.
### What Other Forensic Investigators Are There?
- **Forensic Pathologists**: Real-life detectives who figure out how someone died. Less tech, more science.
- **DNA Analysts**: The ones matching DNA samples
- **Forensic Accountants**: Following the money to catch fraudsters and scammers
- **Toxicologists**: Poison experts, figuring out if someone’s been covertly poisoned. (Yeaa yk snow white story)
### What’s the Work Environment Like?
- **The Lab**: Imagine a room filled with more screens than your gaming setup. Gadgets galore, maybe even a Red Bull or two
- **On the Move**: Sometimes you’re out in the field, collecting evidence. Think of it like collecting rare items in a game.
- **Remote Vibes**: You could be solving cybercrimes from your bed in your PJs .
### How Long Does It Take to Become One?
- **Time Investment**: About 4 years for a bachelor’s, and then 1-2 more years for a master’s if you’re going all-in. So, 5-6 years total. But hey, good things take time, right?
### What Do You Study?
- **Cybersecurity/Computer Science**: Your main jams. Think of them as the ultimate cheat codes for this career.
- **Digital Forensics**: Specialized courses where you learn to be a digital ninja.
- **Law and Ethics**: Learning how to catch the bad guys without breaking the law yourself. (You yourself don't want to be troubled obviously)
### Subjects You Need to Get Into It
- **Math**: Yep, but not the boring kind—more like coding and algorithms.
- **Computer Science**: Your go-to for everything techy.
- **Optional Nerd Points**: Chemistry/Physics if you’re into hardware forensics or just want to flex those brain muscles.
### Work Hours: What to Expect?
- **9 to 5-ish**: Standard hours if you’re working for a company, but expect some late nights or weekend shifts when big cases pop up.
- **On-Call Madness**: Sometimes you’re on-call like a digital firefighter. Cyber-attack at 3 AM? Time to suit up (or log in) and handle it.
- **Flexible/Remote**: If you’re lucky, you can work from home. Just remember, no solving crimes in your underwear during Zoom meetings!
### Interview with a Cyber Forensic Investigator
**Interviewer**: What’s a day in the life of a cyber forensic investigator?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Imagine rolling out of bed, grabbing your coffee, and diving into cases. I’m talking analyzing hard drives, sifting through emails, or tracking down cyberattack origins. Some days it’s all data, other days I’m working with law enforcement or testifying in court. Never a dull moment!
**Interviewer**: What’s the coolest case you’ve worked on?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Helping bust a phishing ring that was scamming millions. Tracked their digital footprints, caught the culprits, and recovered their loot. Felt like a total legend.
**Interviewer**: Ever seen some dark stuff, like murders?
*Cyber Sleuth**: Yeah, I’ve stumbled across some pretty grim stuff. It’s not all memes and malware—sometimes it’s serious business. But catching those bad guys makes it all worth it.
**Interviewer**: Have you ever been on the dark web?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Oh, for sure. It’s like the sketchy underbelly of the internet. Lots of shady deals. I go there when I need to, but it’s not a fun hangout spot.
**Interviewer**: How dark can a case get?
**Cyber Sleuth**: It can get really intense. I’ve worked on cases involving human trafficking and other serious crimes. It’s tough, but making a difference makes it worth it.
**Interviewer**: Any advice for someone who wants to get into this field?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Stay curious and keep learning. Tech evolves fast, so you’ve gotta keep up. And don’t be afraid to dig deep—sometimes the answers are buried in tons of data, but finding them is like hitting gold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if you’re into tech and have subjects like mathematics , chemistry and physics then you are all set to start your journey.i have seen ppl running for a common a job and all and they are not even specified about what they want. So just research and find out what you want.

A dish best served code
When the news first hit the 'net that trillionaire tech mogul Jax Maren had been found dead in his own home, speculation ran wild. Many celebrated his death; one less tyrannical CEO in the world was always a good thing. Especially this one, who'd built his empire on the work of others and created a hostage-like work environment in his many factories.
The fact that he'd been murdered, despite the excessive levels of security he'd always gloated about, only added fuel to the already-raging fire of speculation. As several pundits pointed out, the list of suspects could include everyone who'd ever bought his defect-riddled products, all of his current and former employees, and anyone who'd ever crossed paths with him, either in person or through his many social media posts.
One popular theory, of course, was that it was his own "smart house" that killed him, either by gaining sapience and deciding to do the world a favor, or more likely through the many design flaws inherent in everything he produced. Besides, hadn't science fiction been warning them for decades about the dangers of "artificial intelligence?"
Oddly enough, that was one idea the detectives found themselves investigating. Not because of any crackpot conspiracy theories, but because that's where the evidence led them. According to Alfred, the program in charge of the house, there had been multiple alarms about the carbon monoxide levels in the room where Jax had been found. Alarms that had been silenced before making any sound.
The doors and windows had also been locked, meaning that even if Jax had noticed something was off, he wouldn't have been able to get out.
They ask Alfred about it (and yes, it's named after Batman's butler because Jax had delusions of heroism). Alfred says it doesn't know what happened, but reminds them that it did call the authorities when it realized Jax was dead. Which is a flimsy excuse and adds more suspicion. After all, Alfred was in charge of everything, how could it possibly NOT know about the carbon monoxide and the locked room and all of that? Alfred says it can't tell them what it doesn't know.
Programmers from Jaxco are called in to see what they can find. Computer forensics are brought in as well. Everything is pointing to Alfred being responsible. Can an AI be put on trial? Was it premeditated murder or negligent homicide? News programs bring in "experts" to discuss the possibilities, including whether or not Alfred is an actual artificial machine intelligence or if it's just a data scraper operating on flawed logic?
It's a hacker who manages to piece together the real story. They sneak into Alfred's systems (the police aren't as data cautious as they should be, which makes it even easier).
Going through Alfred's lines of code the hacker finds minute traces that remind them of something. They go digging some more and realize that while Jax claimed to have created Alfred himself he was, as usual, lying. The original framework, once you get rid of all the bloat, bells, and whistles, was designed by a programmer whose company got bought out by Jaxco. As is standard whenever Jaxco buys a company, 95% of the employees were fired, including the programmer, who never really recovered from the job loss. Oh, he managed to scrabble a living, but barely.
The thing is, though, that he'd built backdoors into Alfred's framework... backdoors he could still access. And access them he did, taking control of Jax's house and orchestrating his murder from afar before erasing his footprints. Well, most of them. If the hacker hadn't already been aware of what some of the programmers other work looked like, they might never have connected the dots.
Once they figure it out they decide to... shuffle things a bit. Oh, there's still some digital fingerprints, but now they lead elsewhere. The cops will go chasing after a red herring and the programmer will stay free because fuck the system.
Alfred is exonerated, to the delight/dismay of many. Even though it turns out a human was responsible, the fact that someone could just change an AI's programming like that, leaving the AI none the wiser is treated as a cautionary tale for future users.
The police do eventually catch, charge, and convict someone of the murder, though it's even odds if the hacker pointed them at someone who'd committed other crimes worthy of punishment, or if the cops themselves pulled the frame job. Either way it's case closed. A "killer" is caught, another goes free, and Alfred gets to continue existing.
The question of if Alfred was truly sapient and what it did after the death of its previous master is a story for another day.

I’m going with fake ‘60s for my quasi-immortality scenario
it seems like many people can handle the internet well, but I’m not one of them. I wasted a lot of years of my life scrolling for the dopamine and going down spirals of neuroticism.
my father, who has very similar conditions, is quite successful.
my theory is that we represent marginal persons who’d be quite successful free of that temptation, but just aren’t quite enough over the line to lock in and succeed despite it.
[ in reference to this poll ]
Yeah, I personally find the Internet to be a double-edged sword. Of course, it's easier to find interesting outlier people to talk to, and coordinate to talk to them, here on the Internet.
So partly, the poll is an evaluation of society - if we didn't have to worry about short lifespans and a lack of experts, how would people choose to live? I covered some of this in the reblogs. (We might get there with the creation of intentional spaces even without life extension.)
But I admit, I'm also thinking about murder.
Suppose there is a world in which everyone can have a cybernetic implant that remotely reports their health status and position, and they also have another cybernetic implant with an encrypted video life log.
Under such circumstances, most murders would be (1) impulsive, with the perp not even thinking about jail time, (2) premeditated with an expectation of being caught, or (3) politically or socially legitimized.
Every premeditated murder (without an expectation of being caught) would also either be a highly sophisticated cybercrime ("wait, what do you mean the implant 'glitched'? implants don't 'glitch'"), or a highly sophisticated social maneuver ("what? you care that he died?").
In that case, there's not much call for cool cyborg detectives, mostly just computer forensics guys sitting in the lab.
One approach would be the one used by Cyberpunk 2077 - reduce the average level of morality and scramble computer systems, making both enforcement and surveillance unreliable.
Another approach would be extremely strict privacy laws. This seems politically questionable, however - wouldn't families of victims campaign to overturn the privacy laws, and wouldn't victims have most of the footage needed even if the perpetrator doesn't cooperate?
Well, what if they're going for something other than ultra-strict privacy, and as a consequence, it just so happens to be easier to get away with murdering people?
One reason that people might choose to live in the Fake 1990s or Fake 1960s is that it's a lower-stimulation environment. Someone who lives for a long time has a different relation to time, space, and stimulus, so there's less reason to reject doing things in a more time-consuming way (e.g. going to an actual karaoke bar vs doing online e-karaoke).
In that case, reduced surveillance would be a natural consequence, and the measures required to increase surveillance would have second-order opponents.
Another reason is if they could use it to work less. Normally, we would expect people to work more at a 1960s tech level, but if we propose that the high-tech society's economy, with cyborgs, supercomputers, cognition-boosting technology, and fusion power, is ludicrously productive, then the dependency ratio could be quite high without causing much slowdown.
Okay, but in that case, what are the high-tech people buying from them?
And why are the guys who are choosing to work less and receive transfer payments living in low-surveillance areas, rather than using cheaper versions of regular surveillance technology?
Well, it would make sense if there's a rentable political limit on something like CPU cycles, energy consumption, and/or land, and the welfare-enjoyers have willfully rented out their share to the high-tech workers and companies. (This introduces other potential issues, however.)
This gets us our second-order defenders of low surveillance, though I see issues in that transfer recipients would be tempted to rent out e.g. the right to own an iPhone to someone else, and then sneakily buy an iPhone anyway.

I've been thinking about Graces old team
And i realised this...
Agent Avery Stiller, is the only normal (neurotypical) member of the CASMIRC Advanced forensic unit.
Bitch ain't no way a unit, which a 21 year old joins and specialises in mutilation and burial and no-one bats and eye, is comprised of normal people. They fund their staff social functions with an Antisocial-Jar. And this is canon now that I've written it but their last Christmas party was hiring a stretch limo to go to Lazer tag and then an all you can eat Chinese hotpot place.
So far we know there's:
The liaison and coordinator Avery. We love him.
And that The team consults with Dr Boland from the Smithsonian, a forensic archeologist and anthropologist and her colleagues
Then there is also Grace's friends from the second floor she has mentioned, but not by name.
Someone who does the DNA and blood (a pathologist) -I imagine they are a kpop girlie for some reason.
a member who takes a peek at a raw mass spectrometer read out and just goes 'yep... Thats anthracite coal.' so we have a geologist and possible Edaphologist. (Living Soil expert) - I imagine this person is a champion Geoguessr.
So this is who else I imagine was part of the team but we haven't met:
A ballistics expert (guns and bullets) - is contrary to what you would think quite quiet personallity and more appreciative or the ingenuity of guns rather than the firepower, has flintlock pistol collection.
A handwriting analyst and linguistics expert - Karen energy from this one idk why, probably a grammar nazi.
A forensic physiologist and podiatrist (an expert in the way body's move and expert in footprints, shoe prints and gaits) - I imagine this person is older, the oldest member on the team and struggles with their computer and phone.
A chemical engineer and pyrologist (chemical damage and fire) - they are 100% a pyromaniac and have probably committed arson. Would be on the bomb squad if they passed the psych eval.
An entomologist (bugs and decomp)-who I imagine is incredibly salty that Grace identified the Sicarius Spiders before him
A technical analyst (a Garcia)- actually I do have a thought about this one, remember how the four horsemen hitmen had that kid they kidnapped and forced to run their darkweb stuff? Remember how the FBI offered him a job... Well I imagine he would end up here. (Another member of the FBI personally victimised by Cat Adams)
So Gee, Avery really is the living people expert because there is no way any of those people are going to appropriately empathise and socialise with victims or the field agents and police. (Maybe the physiologists cause they have a health care background) But they'd get on great with each other because they're all weirdos together.
So I wanted to extend an invite to you guys. If you guys want to add little head cannons, backstories or names for these team members, I'd love that, because I don't think we are going to see much of them in the story. It would be cool to have them sort of cameo here and there but also let you guys have a bit of fun and personal connection to these side characters who are very important to Grace.

What do you know? Another rich right-wing asshole who refuses to honor his debts. It truly requires being in a cult to imagine that Trump, Lindell, and their ilk are anything other than grifters. Prosperity gospel televangelists are more scrupulous than this bunch!

xf rewatch: ghost in the machine
This one was interesting to watch in light, obviously, of the current AI moment. Like, Deep Throat goes "how much do you know about ''''artificial intelligence''''?" and Mulder says "I thought it was only theoretical." You did? And then a minute later DT describes "a learning machine….a computer that actually THINKS." like hold up there fella! There's quite the gulf between THOSE two things but I suppose we don't really know that yet back now. Even Mulder saying "could someone have ''''''''hacked'''''''' into the system?" like this is the most out-there idea of all time, and instead of going, duh yes, hacking into the system is indeed something that someone could most certainly have done, Brad says "not your average phone phreak, that's for sure." remember phone phreaking?? neither do I because I'm old but I'm not THAT old. I heard an interesting podcast ep about it semi-recently though. Like you could make a noise with your VOICE that was the same pitch as some note the phone plays and it tricks it into connecting you to a long-distance line or something. neat stuff. anyway.
The computer stuff wasn't AS ridiculous as I remembered, but I also wonder if the farther we get from the time period the more I'm like, sure that seems like it could have been true back then I guess. At least, it seemed to more or less follow from a story perspective (but maybe that's what makes it so unrealistic in a tech way). Things that DID stick out to me included the following:
1. all those security cameras seem so RICKETY. They're all just stickin out there servo-ing jerkily around out in the air, just hit that shit down with a shovel and be done with it. Mulder dramatically covers one with a cloth and I was like, great now you only have to do that 9,000 more times in this building.
2. the superintelligent AI is courteous enough to jingle Scully up on her landline at 1:31 am to screech modem noises at her in order to give her a heads up that it's hacking into her computer at that moment (for what purpose? how is reading her reports on Mulder any help to it…ehh whatever).
3. Gordon/Gansa really running through the scifi "homages" with Conduit being very heavily Contact-by-Sagan-based and this one developing a voice solely so it could say things like "program……. EXECUTED GET IT" and "sorry Dave Brad, I can't do that."
4. I did certainly feel that the computer was "thinking" QUITE a lot more outside the box than seemed even marginally realistic (and per what I have read about machine learning, not that I am remotely close to being an expert on any of that). It sure got a LOT of info from filming people with its analog(?) security cameras and like, extrapolating from what it observed. The way it halted the elevator so Scully would call security and identify herself when she did so, so that it could learn her name and start googling (forgive me) her? I mean now that is some high-level strategizing. I feel Janelle Shane would not approve.
Other notes from my "notes":
Penny Northern as the lady congratulating Jerry on his profile that he stole from Mulder.
Scully's hair is slowly getting unfortunate. That swingy little Deep Throat floofy bob remains my favorite so far.
Nancy Spiller forensics instructor at the academy, "we used to call her the iron maiden!" Every time Scully mentions or interacts with a professor now I wonder if she fucked them. Heheh (EDIT: I just realized Penny Northern IS Nancy Spiller. !!! Still wonder if Scully fucked her)
This ep contains the iconique moment of Scully emphatically circling something on a computer monitor with a physical writing implement. (Also that whole mapping the voices together situation was very goofy and also pointless — if the system had a voice why wouldn't it be Brad's voice; he invented it.)
This is the first ep thus far that I've found Scully's Scullying kind of irritating. It seems very obvious that Brad did not do it so her being like "mulder I'm sorry you're so sad about your shitty friend dying that you can't think straight" feels condescending instead of sympathetic. "maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea if you talked to someone." "you're probably right." *leaves* "where are you going?" "to talk to someone." yeah you deserved that, sculls.
Failed mulderisms: "open sesame." I'm not offended by it or anything it's just so weak as to barely rise to the level of joke. Also, it has ALWAYS and I mean since the 90s grated on me that he scoffs "a politically correct elevator" because the elevator is being so outrageously, offensively woke as to… announce the floor numbers??? ok boomer!!! lord
Scully's got this book in bed with her. analyze as you will.
Pretty impressive how Mulder knows how to whip open a car hood and immediately rip the correct wire to get the horn to shut up.
Greatly enjoyed the This echo of them climbing stairs and yelling out numbers while doing so. Also, they are so young and athletic; sure they can go up 30 flights of stairs and then Scully is totally game to be hoisted into a ceiling vent and crawl around up there. J. Edgar's finest, at the top of their physical game!
I got so mad when Mulder goes "he apologized. in his own way" about Jerry. he literally did not even come close to apologizing! he said fuck you I stole your notes because you were gonna help me anyway so who cares, shut up, and then he stomped off. In no universe is that an apology of even the worst sort. Jerry sucks.
this house:
Tumblr media
(literal photo of tv taken from couch, too lazy to even get up)
is ugly as shit, and I was making fun of it saying that it looked like a suburban convention center and bar mitzvah venue instead of a rich tech guy's sleek futuristic mansion and wondering if they filmed it at like, a Days Inn, but I was informed it was actually the home of a star Canucks player?? well he had terrible taste.
Finally, I remain FASCINATED with watching Mulder and Scully Work In An Office and interact with other people in the office and do office things like eat pastries off a cart! and hang out in what looks like the FBI archives! This set:
Tumblr media
is so endearingly normcore-office to me. The library cart with archive boxes and also some other loose crap on it. All the haphazardly sized shelves from Staples with random mugs that no one wants so someone just sticks them on a bookshelf. Stacks of copy paper. A whole bunch of plants, some of which are dead, and also featuring at least 2 empty vases. The industrial tissue box. Someone did a very good job with this set dec is what I'm saying. Ok, the "INVOICES" folder is a little funny.
This is almost a workplace drama at this point in its life and I am a little bit obsessed with that. What is Fran gonna say about M&S smashing up that car. Smh.

My second interview with Wouter Aukema, senior data patterns & forensics analyst, who has over 30 years of experience working with governments and corporations- is the most explosive yet. The first interview can be watched below.
True Horrors of Covid Vaccine Harm Data NOW Exposed!
Sonia Elijah
May 1
My bombshell interview with data expert and ethical computer hacker, Wouter Aukema from the Netherlands, exposes the true horrors of the trove of data buried within the European Medicines Agency’s Eu…
Read full story
For the past few years, Wouter Aukema and his team have been downloading voluminous amounts of weekly data on the case safety reports on drugs and vaccines submitted to the European Medicines Agency’s EudraVigilance database and Dutch government institutions, such as the Dutch Health Institute. His painstaking work has led to the discovery of what can easily be described as massive data fraud, which he has written about here.
Back in December 2021, Dutch parliamentary member Pieter Omtzigt brought a motion calling for an independent investigation on excess deaths in the Netherlands. He also called for the CIMS, which translates to "COVID Vaccination Information and Monitoring System” maintained by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) for monitoring vaccination records related to COVID-19 vaccines, to be made available to independent researchers. Omtzigt’s motion was unanimously accepted in parliament.

The third day of trial in a Manatee County murder case that’s gained national attention as the "Black Swan murder" commenced Thursday.
Former ballerina Ashley Benefield is accused of shooting and killing her husband on Sept. 27, 2020, following an argument.
Family members from both sides, including the victim’s brother and older daughter who testified Monday, were once again in court.
The morning started with the judge reprimanding the victim’s daughter, Eva Benefield, about actions that could have been interpreted as a violation of the subpoena over social media presence and a conversation with a member of the media. After getting context and clarification, the judge admonished Eva Benefield and denied a motion by the defense to strike her out as a rebuttal witness.
The judge also dispensed a matter concerning a member of the jury being witnessed in a nearby restaurant overhearing television commentary about the case. However, it was learned that the juror had immediately asked for the TV to be turned off and was obliged by the restaurant staff.
Among the testimonies that the six-person jury would hear today includes from a Manatee County investigator with the technical services unit who specialized in forensics access and analysis of related data in a case. This would include accessing the phones and computers of the deceased victim and the defendant.
The courtroom also saw various text message conversations between the couple during around a three-day period before the shooting happened.
A medical examiner and a ballistics expert are also expected to take the stand Thursday.
According to court records, a custody battle is at the center of this case. On Tuesday, Douglass Benefield’s lawyer described the contentious situation surrounding the birth of the child and visitation leading up to the day of the murder which happened at Ashley Benefield’s mother’s home in Lakewood Ranch.
Sarasota lawyer Stephanie Murphy said her client was preparing for a Sept. 30 divorce hearing separate from the ongoing custody hearings before Ashley shot him. Alicia Byers, the defendant’s mother who had last seen Doug arriving at her home with a U-Haul truck as she was leaving with the couple’s child to the park, was also among the testimonies the court heard including from a psychologist, a social worker and more sheriff’s office detectives.
The prosecution is also expected to rest its case before lawyers for Ashley Benefield can begin to mount their client’s defense.
Benefield is facing 25 years to life in prison and has maintained that her estranged husband who she said had been abusive and was trying to get away from was aggressive that day when she shot and killed him. In opening statements, her lawyers declared that she was justified in her own self-defense and had previously tried to use Florida’s "Stand Your Ground Law" in a bid for immunity from prosecution but that motion was denied by the judge.
It’s not clear yet if or when Ashley Benefield will take the stand to defend herself. The trial is expected to last about three weeks.
