oh boy !! ! ! ! !!! !
thANK y0u all for the kind words on my last art posts. you all get it and i was/still am so happy about it
as promised, here's some close-ups of the comic for image quality's sake, and other screenshots i rescued from the community whiteboard
(and something else)
first up another sketch of mystery gender-ambiguous being.
(please send me more name ideas for them if you got one- i like to hear em! (reminder it's the side character that appeared for <10 seconds in AvM Ep. 30))
a few fav scenes
emotional support cwab
they weren't meant for this purpose exactly, but i do have countless "fluffy sticks" loose in my notes and homework sheets from the school years.
papery critter.
even when i wasn't confident in fur or feathers, they helped me practice posing and create some satisfying gradients/flowing poses.
(im a sucker for good tail poses) (oh yay! i found a good pic...)
and finally,
little sneak peak for you for reading so far ;3
i realized that whiteboardfox is pretty great for my working needs. simple and to the point and all. feels nice with the mouse and the tablet.
so i started hashing out a big project idea just to see if it holds up and
heres an old comic i gave up on </3 it was a better idea in my head..
its a bit incomprehensible but basically i like the concept of villian eating the sidekick of their hero nemesis to lure them into a trap. But also. I think it would be funny/angsty if the hero didnt even bother saving them and just assumed the sidekick was a lost cause.
i used to freehand comics all the time as a child and since the part i liked was the drawing part i would just draw panel after panel because i didn't want to stop drawing to think about icky icky words, plus the story TOTALLY still made perfect sense! to me! and noone else, but 'whoooo caaaaares omgggg its not like comics and sequantial art are a communicative meeediummmm lmaoooooo'. i spent my entire childhood telling myself stuff like "oh pfft I know this story by heart- ill SIMPLY remember the dialogue and write it later" ...and. I can't help but admire baby maiora's (call that a minora ba tm tsk) fucking audacity? hubris? confident wrongness? kid couldn't even remember to finish the comics in the first place? INCREDIBLE levels of unearned self assurance, wish that were me, genuinely- what an icon!!! anyway i think i have forever cursed myself
Wait hold on I just noticed something really funny.
I'm sure we all remember the incredibly gay moment of Domi quoting her father at Jeanne to talk about "enjoying her beauty:"
But! I just realized that this line was changed a bit from the real de Sade quote. The real life version that's usually quoted is this: "Sexual pleasure is, I agree, a passion to which all others are subordinate but in which they all unite." To be really reductive, it's essentially saying "everything is about sex."
Which like. This line as written was already a lot. But so long as there was no translation weirdness, we can assume that Mochijun picked this line out for this scene based on the "sexual pleasure" version. Hello lesbians.
What would happen if different variants of Eddie (movies, comics, cartoons and original takes) would meet each other?Honestly the Venomverse is way more chaotic than spiderverse
Probably nothing good 😅 I think my Eddie is the more outwardly jealous of the two even more so then Venom. I recall one panel where Venom didn't really want to choose between Flash and Eddie as they love them both very much. So Eddie afterwards, while on good terms with Flash probs still feels a lil left over jealousy over it.
My Eddie wouldn't have much patience with his other variants, especially those with a more chaotic relationship with their respective symbiote. He's aware his version of Venom is pretty chill in comparison so when other Eddies comment on how his Venom seems nicer he goes all guard dog like HEY this is mine! Work shit out with your own partner! 😡
Honestly I feel a Venomverse scenario wouldn't be organized at all, I feel it would be a bunch of different Eddies yelling at each other, while the non Eddie variants just try to form some semblance of a team. I heard there's some wild stuff is going on in the Death of the Venomverse comic but I'm not sure if I wanna read Carnage just going around murking everyone on sight😅 Venomverse is still one of my fav comics cause I just love all the fan service of seeing different characters with the symbiote.
I think I've seen a lot of takeaways from this episode be that Patton pushed for what he wanted regardless of how the others felt. However, I believe this is ignoring first that he's a facet of c!Thomas and represents his core values and thus what Thomas ultimately believed was right as well, even if he wasn't happy about it.
Interesting quotes that I think get forgotten or removed from context about how SVS went down:
I find it interesting that people claim Patton manipulated the others, namely Roman. I dispute this because of the intent required for something to be manipulation vs misguiding someone and the word is thrown around carelessly. Janus, however, was the one to actually "manipulate" Roman to his advantage in the situation, and while you can justify it, I am simply pointing out that people do not get on his case as harshly for this thing they claim Patton did.
Patton is the product of c!Thomas's inner learned morality + his feelings, which makes the host as guilty as any of them for that representation of trying to break out of a learned mindset, which Patton is. He's changing as c!Thomas learns, and making mistakes such as not listening to the other parts of Thomas that may suggest he is not a perfect, "good" person by their original standards. Categorizing yourself as a "good" or "bad" person based on some scoring system is not something you want to do: people DO good and bad (and neutral) things, they aren't good or bad themselves.
Labeling yourself as "good" may just help you justify everything you do even when it's objectively bad because "well I'm a good person so this is good too". And labeling yourself (or others labeling you) as "bad" might just make you feel stuck and like you can never be anything more, and so you just become it with all your decisions. These are not the human experience. Nuance aside, everything is relative and you'll be picking apart every aspect of yourself trying to figure out "which you are".
Thomas is essentially trying to convince part of himself that it'd be okay to go against his morals for a beneficial reason. There was no right answer (going to the wedding or not) that would make everyone happy; Patton was doing what they asked and giving Thomas the moral answer based on c!Thomas's sincere priorities (like his friendships and being trustworthy).
(Pat's the emotional center AND the moral center of Thomas, which conflict more often than not, and are part of the reason this guy really struggled with separating the two while making his case-- he's unfortunately the holder of both.)
Where Patton was wrong was putting others first 100% of the time. Now, to be fair to Patton, he did agree that there are times when you should put yourself first, but they were circumstantial and in service to helping others more. This isn't healthy and is on the extreme end close to self harmful because you're prioritizing others even when you don't have the means to give, which can lead to burnout and neglect of yourself. The "opposite" end of this is only caring about your own means and using others as a means to an end. Both of these can lead to ruining your social and emotional connections to others.
And again, these are manifestations of the inner turmoil c!Thomas is having. These are his beliefs (read as "moral code") vs his wants battling it out and no matter what he settled on given the options, he'd have been unhappy. (note though: Roman did bring up simply asking Lee and Mary Lee about this directly and sometimes open communication is the best solution-- a lot of the time, actually)
At the end of the day in this part, Patton was defending c!Thomas ' character and relationships (which are important to them) while Janus wanted c!Thomas to not feel obligated to put his own goals behind the wants of others, especially with minimum benefit in both regards (Thomas's presence at the wedding was less impactful for them than the callback would have potentially been for Thomas, and it was a high Opportunity Cost).
Patton is essentially a representation of a religious upbringing sticking certain ideals in your core beliefs that even once you separate yourself from it, still for better or worse guide a lot about you. He's changing and evolving from that, and I do get why a character like this puts a bad taste in people's mouths and they associate him with that. That's entirely valid and I get it. This isn't about that-- I'm not over here arguing he did nothing wrong or that you can't hate him for whatever reason you want, that's not what I'm saying nor what I care about here-- I'm just clearing up what I've seen in canon versus how a majority neurodivergent fandom with certain life experiences might have warped the view of him in hindsight. This is not a malicious jerk trying to get his way and at the other extreme, he's not an innocent bean who wasn't ever in the wrong.
There ARE other examples of him pushing points associated with his roles and having to change throughout the series to this point. He just is the one looked at the hardest out of the sides (who all do this at some point in the series) because he's supposed to have all the answers when morality is one of the most difficult things you have to figure out in life. He didn't claim to have all the answers, but c!Thomas needs them from him to be the best person he can, and that will ultimately conflict and be more complicated than the black-and-white morality kids get taught and then have to alter as they grow up and see a complex world.
We all have to deal with that and it's uncomfortable to confront it. It manifesting in one character separate from yourself is easier than consolidating that that's a part of everyone, and one that isn't fun to examine all the time. I just really like how the show brings philosophies I studied into the next episode, but do think that a chunk of the audience did misunderstand / block out what Patton was actually saying/trying to do...I'm gonna rewatch the Redux episode and also keep an eye out for what people might be talking about when they specifically talk about his actions being problematic there, but I definitely believe the intent of this character (and how Thomas has presented him) does not get to the conclusion of him being willfully any more pushy or mistaken than the others at one point or another.
Maybe Station 19 was like an experimental cubist painting.
There were too many stories to be told and too many people trying to tell them, from too many perspectives, with too many styles…
Each viewer saw a different picture.
It was the show that tried to capture the zeitgeist and represent the under-represented. Also the show that often struggled. With the tones and textures. With representing w/o tokenizing. B/w laughing with and laughing at. B/w realism and romanticizing. B/w deliberate and arbitrary. B/w educating and entertaining. B/w what they consider profane and sacrosanct.
At times, it touched our hearts deeply. At times, it frustrated us to no end.
Not every story was given the respect, sensitivity and intricacy it was due.
One moment could lead to a profound understanding of an aspect of a lived life some of us had never known; while the next could be a moment that was beyond confounding - about an aspect of ourselves that made us feel slighted, diminished and even erased.
It had often been an exercise in empathy to find our common humanity at the intersectionality of stories. Yet, the scale of empathy often skewed too far in favor of some characters with the differing standards, narrative frames and plot armors. Ironically yet reasonably turning people off these very characters they wanted people to root for. A persistent dissonance and disconnect.
But it was also the show that didn’t shy away from the ugly, the raw, the uncomfortable and messy parts of our shared human experience. The tribulations of oppression. The perils of ambition. The tests of morality. The trials of friendship and love. That we would make mistakes, but we could also make amends. That we're not defined by our worst. That our best lives could still be in front of us despite the current struggles. That sometimes life sucks but having your people with you makes it more bearable.
I would think it an interesting journey for the diversity of people behind, on, and in front of the screen. The evolving stories, evolving characters, evolving storytellers, an evolving fandom - all amidst an evolving media landscape.
It was probably not an easy show to make. The show had a bewilderingly lack of support from abc or shondaland. Diversity seemed to be both good for promotion (when there was any) and the reason for the prejudice against it.
Just as it had not been an easy show to watch - so biased, inconsistent and self-contradictory. Like when they kept telling us about the family spirit and deep friendships yet somehow spent more time showing otherwise. Or when the writing of systemic sexism was somehow inherently sexist.
Personally, I don’t think characters belong to the writers alone. Besides the usual constraints, the characters were often adjusted back and forth to fit the plots. We’ve also learnt how network execs' dislikes, writers’ personal experiences were factored into the stories. I fully respect the writers’ artistic rights. But actors who embodied the characters for years have a unique understanding too. Viewers also have their personal takes about what were true to characters. It's ok to agree to disagree.
There had been sparks of brilliance, but often extinguished too soon. It has been confounding how the greys-verse did not capitalise on its vast potential, esp. S19. Even while both shows share a show-runner. Grey's anatomy could have lent its scale while Station 19 could have injected renewed energy back into its mothership. Both shows could have been better for it.
Although the characters have the foundation of distinct and interesting backstories, their development often did not fully utilise the narrative potential and the talents of the cast. I’m sure the crew was also competent and hardworking. But somehow some elements b/w n within the shows seemed to just cancel each other out instead of amplifying their impact. IMO 704 and 709 were a few exceptions.
But I'll always be glad S19 existed and we got a S7. I believe they had tried their best to wrap up and give closure to everyone invested in the show. I truly appreciated the hard work given the circumstances even when I personally didn't agree with some takes.
In the end, I really do want to remember it as the show with heart, the show that made us laugh and cry and the show that tried. The show that's unique - in both its merits and flaws. I’ll definitely miss the characters. One last time - 19!
actually making my tags from my last post into their own post. writers who struggle with grammar, spelling, typos, errors etc i love you. writers who struggle with rereading their stuff thoroughly no matter how much they try, who don't always have access to other people to help them read i love you. whilst reading through and checking for these things is good practice i really believe that the weight of it should not be put wholly on the writer's shoulders. especially writers who are neurodivergent, disabled, have any condition that can impede their reading + comprehension, are overworked and overtired, are not writing in their native language, list goes on....because grammar mistakes/language mistakes/typos have nothing to do with your abilities as a creative. this is where editors should be uplifting writers, helping them, not scrutinising them for something they cannot always control
13 (número de la mala suerte XD) + Chase x KO + Adventure Bots (DnD x vaporpunk)
hi
13 + Chase x KO + Adventure Bots
“MY FUCK- WHY?” Knock Out raised his hands like giving up at the angry howl, and of course with a big, pathetic smile, hoping for Chase to calm down.
“Wow! I didn´t thought you could say that kind of things!” Starscream copied KO´s movements, talking also with a pathetic tune he only uses when Megatron is mad.
“Starscream, shut the fuck up, for Primus’ sake” KO begged low.
“The First thing I told you: Don´t follow me because the mission is dangerous and everything is strictly calculated to happen on this way” Chase pointed his palm with his fingers, saying the plan like essayed and perfectly, better than any scholar could do “BUT YOU!” he shouted when he finished “YOU HAD TO COME!”
“C´mon, Chase, everything´s fine!” Starscream tried to excuse himself “And it even got better, and no one figured out we were on that castle!”
“That´s the thing! You weren´t planned! The messenger dove´s death, by your hand, wasn´t part of the plan either! And you almost killed three people!”
“…But they aren´t dead.”
“GET OUT!” Chase growled loud and steady, and very clear for the hawk-bot, this wasn´t the first time Starscream disobeyed his superior on the moment, but compared to Megatron, Chase do not stand people who disobey, his processor couldn´t resist it, Starscream got out in the act, mostly because he was too scared to say something else, he throw a look at KO, being replied with an eye roll and a terrible grim, Starscream couldn´t resist to let out a low, disgusted bird caw, meeting the cold of the night with his feathers and metal while KO got closer to Chase on the candle illuminated meting room of the 40 thief’s HQ, given to him while Megatron was out with the (now quartet) Waves, Boulder and Blades, to keep in march the assault to Howlet´s castle, “get out” Chase growled, covering his face with his clawed fingers and showing his fangs, usually to make KO mad and go away (both species hate the fang show), but this time KO didn´t showed his fangs back, instead, he lowered his optic brows and sat in silence beside him.
“I´m sorry” KO finally said, not meeting Chase´s optics, but at the surprise he retired his hands and saw KO´s sad optics, Primus, he looked like a wet bat “I had to stop Starscream, but I was worried about you.” Chase took his gaze away when he saw KO roll his optics back to him, he was really mad about the situation but for some reason, to hear (technically and explicitly, for the first time, because he was too proud) KO say sorry downed his angriness a lot, maybe it was just the shock or his strange delight each time he saw KO “I was worried you could get out of control or something.” Oh… that was the problem.
“Knock Out” Chase called him, “listen to me” and took those bat sad eyes with his big hands like a cup “do you really trust in me? Like, really? I have already asked you and you said yes but you don´t seem convinced.” KO for a moment got lost on Chase´s yellowish eyes, not even opening his mouth to reply, the thought was clear but the words weren´t, so, he took Chase´s faceplate and stick his forehead with Chase´s, transmitting the feeling easy and more clear than he could do without it, sometimes he was grateful to be a vampire, that ability has saved him a lot of times, he got away (just a little bit) from Chase, now holding his hands on Chase´s shoulders with a low look. Chase got lost on his thoughts for a moment, lowering his ears and back, then, meeting again KO´s optics, got closer and hugged him as strong as he could, which was KO´s favorite type of hug, Chase wasn´t a bot of hugs, and he wasn´t sure if it was just a coincidence of the day or if his ‘puppy’ instincts kicked him harder when someone was sad, but wasn´t capable of let KO just got sad, not even a little, and worse if he was worried by his fault, Chase was completely capable of controlling his other form but KO had a really bad experience with werewolves out of control and was paralyzed by the mere thought of seeing his most dearest become something he couldn´t recognize.
“Please tell me you will be alright this week” KO asked Chase low, really low, probably just hearable for Chase.
“I´ll be alright,” Chase replied as low as before, caressing KO´s back neck “this week and all the weeks to come.” For a moment, Chase could feel KO told him ‘Why I can´t believe you?’ but even if he said it out loud, Chase didn´t replied and just kept the red bot closer.
i think this is my first time posting a villaneve manip,,, but i had this idea and couldn't rest until i made this and i liked it enough that i thought i'd post it
In another informal installment of "I have real questions for Eric Kripke": The women love interests that stabilize the (arguably) lead men of their shows.
I've said before (maybe not on my Tumblr?) that Kripke tends to have a similar core male role in all shows I've seen him involved in thus far. It's a softer, younger brother type, whose both a stand-in for the audience, and by him "joining" the plot of the show is the game changer that gets the plot moving. This usually at some point leads to the character taking a turn to the dark side, where the trauma he endures leads him to do terrible things for revenge because it's the only way he feels safe, and in a way, powerful. This is arguably the lead characters of Sam Winchester (SPN) and Hughie Campbell (The Boys), and the major character of Sam Riordan (Gen V).
(Sidebar: I appreciate the attempt that Gen V made not to center the plot on a straight white male. Another Kripke show would have made Sam R. the lead. Narratively, Sam R.'s presence is what gets the plot moving, and in most respects he resembles Sam W. But his interruption of Marie and the other students arc as they try to settle in at college despite coming in with trauma by introducing a larger problem they can't avoid or ignore is the one way I'm describe him as the Dean W. role , while Marie is much closer to a Sam W.)
But that said, every single one of these men has a blonde (!) woman in their life trying to keep them stable. Without them they spiral. From Jessica telling Sam W. he'd crash and burn without her in the pilot (which he does in fact over the course of the Kripke seasons). To the more overt and long-lasting relationships of Annie and Hughie, to Emma and Sam R. All of them have sweet, innocent starts that are twisted over time, all by the inner darkness of the men. In an attempt to protect them and deal with their trauma they betray the woman they pretend to love, leaving her in the process. Sam W. is lying about hunting and ignoring his visions which gets Jessica killed, Hughie taking Temp V and going on a mission to kill Homelander despite Annie's objections to Soldier Boy and the drugs, and Sam killing the humans as revenge for the experimentation on him while verbally hitting Emma where it hurts in order to do that.
But as they say, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend. And write what you know. The most telling thing about a writer is what things they keep coming back to, again and again. And the Sam(x2)/Hughies come off as a stand-in for Kripke in the story. So WTF is going on in Kripke's mind or personal history that he keeps coming back to this type of guy and the blonde women they love with this same dynamic.
