Got into knitting recently and was wondering about spells/rituals/meditations/etc that could be done with that. Would that be a kind of knot magic? Should I look more into that first?
Absolutely! Knitting, crocheting, sewing, nalbinding, weaving, embroidery...all of these things can be potential vehicles for spellwork, if you wish to do so.
I'm a crocheter myself, and I find that the steady pace and stitch-counting for whatever pattern I'm working on is very soothing and also lends itself well to magic. When I sit down to make something that I want to put a spell into, I try to focus on (or at least keep in mind) the magical intention I'm going for and anchor it with the stitches every few rows. I'm sure knitting would work along the same lines.
There are at least half a dozen books out there with suggestions and project patterns for crocheted or knitted witchy crafts. I've gotten a few good ideas from Brandy Williams' "Cord Magic" (although admittedly I'm just starting to get into that particular branch of magic). "Fiber Magick" by Opal Luna is on my TBR and it looks like it has a lot of good reviews. There's also a book called "Dark & Dramatic Mosaic Crochet" that I want to get purely for the patterns.
I decided to make a little post about some of the Cord magic work I have been doing in my practice.
Below I have shown steps of my work in creating a cord for the Goddess Brigid.
Here are some steps in point form
(barring all of my personal ritual/spell work)
1) select a number of colored strings the same length. (You will choose based on color/number associations) and lay them along eachother.
2) pinch one end in a steady grip (I pinched one end in-between my ankles. You can also use your toes or a chip clip held by your feet- whatever works honestly.)
3) starting at the top of the length, twist clockwise and as you twist set and imbue your intention for the cord.
While you twist, pinch and run one hand gently from the top down to the end to distribute the tension evenly.
Ensure to not allow the cord to bunch up on itself while twisting.
4) once the full length has been twisted and tension is even across the full cord.
Carefully find the middle of the cord (pinch and hold) and transfer both ends in-between your teeth to free up your hands.
5) starting at the halfed middle- allow the tension to twist the cord into being.
Use both hands one to encourage the twist and another to feed both strands into the twist.
(see video)
6) once you have moved up the length, the cord is now bound.
Seal off the loose ends- maintaining tension.
You can use a simple knot- or you can also use beeswax/ heat depending on how you want to construct your cord.
(disclaimer: always ensure you follow proper fire safety when working with flammable materials)
7) decorate your cord with charms to cap off either end or just finish in a simple knot.
8) congratulations! now your court is finished!
At this point you can use your cord as a spell/ reusable knot work magic cord/ make jewelry with it/ or what I did is to dedicate a cord to a specific deity and use it in spell work with them or hold it during meditations to connect with them.
For the cord dedicated to the Goddess Brigid, I used the corresponding colors-
red for fire and love
Blue for her healing waters and peace
Yellow for illumination and inspiration
Green for new beginnings and growth
(coincidentally all four colors correspond to the elements which increases power additionally)
I also added a natural iron ore deposit chunk on one end as a stone to connect with her.
As well as a Celtic cross to honor the saint version of her when connecting with my ancestors.
Below you will also notice another blue cord that I created for the God Manannán mac lir- complete with a hag stone and a Triskel.
One Source I personally recommend to get you started on your path to learn more about cord and knot work magic is "Cord magic, tapping into the power of string, yarn, twists and knots"
By Brandy Williams (pictured above)
This book has excellent exercises and resources to assist you on understanding the basics and construction of multiple kinds of cords etc.
(Knot magic is one of the oldest forms of magic, most of the examples I focus on are from the included book and from Celtic culture with my own style blended in)
Well that's the end of this post!
I hope I have provided some information that may be useful to some people.
Remember to do your research and practice your craft safely.
If anyone is interested in more Textile, knot, Cord, Weaving and Stitching spell work; let me know and I'll see what I can whip up.
Sometimes you don't want to do any kind of magic, so you leave Fire to act by itself and carry out its own magic. This last Full Moon in Scorpio 🌕♏ was quite powerful and left me drained. Still, the Magic is good enough to act in its transforming phase by itself. I just let go, I give all my pain, dissapointment and rage into the flames, and I'm finally free.
There's a common misspelling that i find in these communities that i think can be read as an enhancement to the concept: I've seen a lot of practitioners talk about chord cutting when they mean to say cord cutting.
A *cord* is like a line or rope; it connects or binds two things together, so cutting that allows the two things to be separated.
A *chord* is a group of musical notes played simultaneously. They can be major, minor, diminished, augmented, or extended, and possibly many other things as well, all of which have different effects on the musical experience and mood, which can also vary by culture (in the West, minor chords are sad, but in some non-Western music, they are sometimes happy).
Now, most of the time, we really do mean "cord cutting" because we are severing the connection between two elements for whatever reason. However, "chord cutting" is a fascinating concept to me because for example, if you took a minor triad and cut out the minor third, you'd be left with a fifth, which is generally considered "pure" rather than happy or sad; this would also allow you to add in a major third and make the triad major.
The idea of classifying elements in one's life as musical notes and structuring relationships between them as musical chords, I think, could allow for a very interesting and very nuanced perception of how things interact and reframe the way we think about altering those connections.
I'm not musically savvy or magically practiced enough to do much with this information, but I thought it was a fun concept.
Hey virgin witch ... Do you know how to cut cords with a person.. ? Like to completely remove that person from your life ..? Can you teach me about the ritual please? Step by step ... Someone is bothering me for long I just want them to stop n remove them completely.. I'd really appreciate the help...🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Namaste
Greetings!
I have not performed a cord-cutting myself, however, I can give you a rough outline on how I've seen them be performed.
you'll need:
two candles - one representing you, and the other representing your target. annoint each candle with corresponding oils/herbs based on your intentions (was this a romantic relationship, or a friendship? or, perhaps was it a familial relationship? these are all questions that will help you choose your oils/herbs)
fire safe dish
"cord" or string
scissors
lighter/matches; something to light the candles
step-by-step:
place both candles on the fire-safe dish, wrapping the cord around the two candles. they should be ~6 inches apart, with the string connecting the candles like a bridge.
light your candles, meditating on your intent/chanting/do whatever you typically would do during your spellwork
NOW, here's where my opinion may differ from other's: cut the cord between the two candles with a pair of scissors and allow them to burn down completely.
most practitioners would instruct you to light the candles, and wait until the flame catches fire to the cord, eventually burning the cord itself. however, this is simply a form of divination. when you are watching these candles burn, without actually severing the cord yourself, all you're doing is watching the development of the relationship. by cutting the cord yourself, with a pair of scissors, you are actually performing the cord cutting.
I hope this was of some help to you - apologies if this isn't super detailed!
Worldbuilding idea just hit me like a bulldozer so time to chew on it I guess; fantasy meets mecha setting where mechs are assembled with armor plating/shells of bone and engines/motors of muscle. Undead constructs made from some kinda titanic species (some kinda deep water leviathan maybe?? Mamoths?? IDK) and then piloted by a necromancer. LOOK, THE SEED OF THE IDEA IS THERE!!
