Hella Big Skirts panel
Ever wanted to make a hella skirt? Wondering how to keep your hella big skirt puffy? Join cosplayer fabrickind to learn the ins and outs of patterning, sewing, and supporting the large, fluffy skirts of your dreams!
This is just the bare bones of the panel, as many of the examples were elaborated on in-person, and it is just the slides, not any of my notes. It is not meant to be exhaustive or definitive, and is just meant for general advice and suggestion purposes only. If anyone has feedback they would like to give, feel free to do so. That said, I hope that people find this information useful.
Here is a link to a pdf of the presentation. You may download for personal use, but please do not alter the presentation, repost without permission, or do any sort of other unauthorized use. (If you have a question about how you can use this presentation, please send me a message with your question and we can work it out. I promise I’m not scary. ;]) Feel free to reblog this post as much as you want, though. I do these panels and post them because I want the information to be shared.
I hope someone finds this helpful! :]

cosplayers, may I present to you…..
✨ shaded braid ✨
Tumblr media
These two braids are otherwise identical but on the left, I used inexpensive alcohol markers to add some extra shadows into braided wig fiber so that it’d photograph with more dimension, much in the way you’d black wash a miniature or prop! It took such little time for such a dramatic result. It’s also hard to overdo this because if you put too much on, a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a swab will erase it!

Cosplay tip/reminder: you can use hot glue for casting shapes! I used this method to decorate my Lady Death scythe! I sculpted a rose, made a mould of silicone rubber, then used hot glue to cast. I use this method pretty often for myself & commissions!

i am so disappointed...
it is hard to see, but i know it is always there. why are fellow cosplayers always putting one another down for being amazing, fun, and creative!? i am a huge supporter of “inaccurate” cosplays. i love when people add fun accessories or spice it up and make it their own! cosplay has so much self expression and creativity at the very core of this hobby. i wish we would support people being themselves and having fun instead of commenting on how it isn’t “accurate” or how it is “silly”. make silly faces! exaggerate yourself and movements! put 20 clips in your hair/wig! have fun makeup! make your cosplay your own. it is after all your cosplay... not anyone else’s!
i know it is hard (i especially feel this) to not be effected by the numbers and people’s comments, but cosplay should be fun. we get lost sometimes on social media looking for love and approval from others. remember to always have fun and be yourself even when dressing up as someone else entirely!

This is why I love shading the roots on a light colored cosplay lace front!
natural hair looks darker at the roots just because of how human hair works. Synthetic hair wigs do not behave the same way, so if you want a cosplay lace front to look more real, adding in shading with an alcohol marker alongside customizing the hairline (YouTube has a lot of info about this; the search term is “fix lace frontal hairline” and just skip any steps involving bleaching knots if your wig is synthetic) will make a wig look so, SO much nicer!
this isn’t even an expensive marker either, I’m literally using an alcohol marker from Five Below, a paper towel, and a bottle of store brand rubbing alcohol
You can also do what I’m doing here and choose a slightly different color for the roots than the base if you want to nudge a wig a bit more warm or cool than it already is! The possibilities are endless!
Literally you just (for a lace piece) part out a very thin amount of hair and color at the roots and, if it’s too dark or there’s too much of a line, form a gradient by wiping with rubbing alcohol. For the rest of the wig, you do that at the base of the weft. It’s easy!

i watched an abby cox video forever ago about how most hand sewing needles easily available in stores absolutely fucking suck and how you have to find fancier brands online that were made in england or whatever to get good ones these days, but only recently acted on it by adding some on to my order of snaps for my meryl coat.............
ohmygod. it makes such a difference. you guys, if you hate hand sewing, go buy some slightly better needles. i got some from wawak which is an online store that specializes in notions (and they're much cheaper than what you'll find at joann's), and it makes everything so silky holy crap. i'm forever changed.

A how to make b00bies for anything really!
Tumblr media
Okay, you are gonna need a few things for this!
-a push up bra that fits you and your desired cup size
-silicon inserts or cloth to fill the space
-contour and concealer
-makeup blender
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, to start either put on your silicon fake boob OR put on your bra and stuff it! silicon then bra or bra then stuffing. after you have the main 'assets' built we start the makeup. contour as shown and blend it out. After that use concealer in the places shown and blend it out. the darker and more dramatic contour looks better on camera, but blend well and smoothly if this is for IRL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Congratulations you have b00bs now! perfect for cosplay, trans peoples, crossdressing, or anything!
Mine are kind of fake looking because it is for an anime character. If you want it to look realistic try to make the cup size (the size of the boob) proportional to your body.

A little tip for Crisp Corners today! Press your seam allowances in before you turn the corners and it makes beautiful points! (Also means you often don’t have to trim too close to the threads!)
