SPOILERS if you have not seen the episode of course:
Tumblr media
Perry assigns our intern trio to go get interviews about Anthony Ivo. I previously mentioned Ivo's deal in the comics in this post, but we'll talk more about this version of Ivo later.
Tumblr media
Shout out to Lois' hanbok! As a kid in the 90s my first exposure to the DC was through the DC Animated Universe. Because of the way some of the characters like Lois, Clark, Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Terry, were designed, as a kid, I thought they were Asian. Very cool to see this version of Lois be Korean.
Tumblr media
Before Lois shows up for their black tie event at Ivo Tower, Jimmy knocks down a stack of papers and magazine and Clark goes to pick it up and stumbles upon the Metropolis Star with a cover that shows him as a kid flying 15 years ago.
Tumblr media
The Metropolis star is a rival newspaper to the Daily Planet in the comics. The publisher makes its first appearance in Superman #9 (1987) (W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tony Ziuko, L: John Costanza).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When our intern trio makes it to Ivo Tower, Lois spots some very interesting powerful and political figures of Metropolis, the CEO of Galaxy Communications and Mayor Fleming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galaxy Communications makes its first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133 (1970) where it was headed by Morgan Edge, the then leader of Intergang. In the comics Clark and Lois does work for Galaxy communications thanks to it buying out the Daily Planet forcing Clark to be the evening news anchor. The Galaxy Communications panels here are from Swamp Thing #68 (1988) (W&P: Rick Veitch, I: Alfredo Alcala, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza).
Mayor Fleming makes her first appearance in Action Comics #894 (2010) (W: Nick Spencer, P: R.B. Silva, I: Denis Freitas, C: Dave McCaig, L: Rob Leigh) where she appoints Jimmy Olsen and Sebastien Mallory as a welcoming committee for Dalwythians aliens. Like her MAwS counterpart she is obviously the Mayor of Metropolis.
Tumblr media
Later, Lois goes and questions Senator Sackett at the party/event.
Tumblr media
In the comics Sackett was a councilman not a senator who makes his first appearance in Superman #130 (1997) (W: Dan Jurgens, P: Norm Breyfogle, I: Joe Rubenstein, C: Glenn Whitmore and Digital Chameleon, L: John Costanza) depicted here in the issue's panel wearing a Superman costume. Sackett in the comics is in Luthor's pocket.
Tumblr media
I am like 99.99% sure this is Lex Luthor like who else in Metropolis is named Alex, has red hair (if this is Lex Luthor and he shows up again, I'll talk about him and what I mean by this in another post.), and works in the science and tech field.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finally meet Ivo and he is as I was hoping he'd be a major techbro tool. The way he acts in his introduction and his meeting with Clark is very much like Lex and Clark's meeting in Batman v Superman. Both Ivo and Lex upon meeting Clark know how strong he is. In MAwS Ivo punches his chest and it hurts him and in BvS you heard an audible thud when Lex knocks on Clark's chest. Very similar vibes between both scenes.
Tumblr media
Clark confronts Ivo about one of his deals and name drops one of Metropolis' mob families.
Tumblr media
Bobby Gazzo, head of the Gazzo crime family in Metropolis, makes his first appearance in Batman: Dark Victory #1 (W: Jeph Loeb, P&I: Tim Sale, C: Gregory Wright and Heroic Age, L: Richard Starkings). Fantastic sequel to Long Halloween, highly recommend reading both books.
Tumblr media
After Clark gets thrown out and Lois offers to repair his jacket, we see Lois mentioning her dad, Sam Lane a military general and if the person at the end of the second part of the first episode is Sam Lane...
Tumblr media
...and he shows up again in the show I'll talk more about it in another post. For now this is all just speculation.
Tumblr media
Might be reading into this but maybe a subtle nod to how the words "Superman" and "pal" are often used together. Both have been used as a comic book title, "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" as I've mentioned in these posts a few times.
Tumblr media
The show here did a very clever thing with Ivo. Normally any other media pertaining to Ivo would give the audience his power and weakness stealing robot Amazo, but here the MAwS team was able to combine both Ivo and another villain in Superman's rogues gallery, Parasite.
Tumblr media
The first Parasite, Raymond Jensen, makes his first appearance in Action Comics #340 (1966) (Cover Art by Curt Swan, George Klein, and Ira Schnapp). All iterations of Parasite have the ability to temporarily steal away anyone's energy, strength, and their knowledge. As I've said there have been other Parasites that Superman fought, the second and most recurring Parasite is Rudy Jones, the Parasite I'm more familiar with, who makes his first appearance in Firestorm #58 (1987).
Tumblr media
Cover Art by Joe Brozowski, Bruce Peterson, and Tom Ziuko Alex and Alexandra Allston the third and fourth Parasite (green Parasite and purple Parasite respectively) first appeared in the Adventures of Superman #633 (2004).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Gene Ha and Art Lyon
The latest Parasite, Joshua Allen, makes his first appearance in Superman #23.4 (2013).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Aaron Kuder and Dan Brown So yeah there are similarities between the Amazo robot and Parasite and it was smart of the MAwS team to just combine Ivo with Parasite to avoid redundancies. Besides the Amazo robot is more of a Justice League villain anyways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Near the end of the episode, after the Parasite suit wrecks Ivo's body, he begins to look more like his recent iterations in the comics now. The panel here is from Justice League of America #4 (2013) (W: Geoff Johns, P: Brett Booth, I: Norm Rapmund, C: Andrew Dalhouse, L: Rob Leigh). Hope you all had a wonderful time checking this post out. Like I said at the beginning my other MAwS easter egg posts are:

I’m slowly going through Oscar’s movies without any hurry, consuming his characters as sweet delicacies… hmm anyway. Speaking of underrated characters. I have an idea that fits for Bud Cooper and for Nick Wasicsko too but I can’t choose one, please help me 🤕 reader is his new secretary, and his favorite way to spend a dinner break is eating reader out at his desk 😎 it would be nice to read something about it ♥️ please skip it if this is not for you! I’ve already over-abused your ask lmao. Love you
Friday Afternoon
Nick Wasicsko x f!Reader
Warnings: oral (f receiving), fingering, + spelling? 18+
around 2.4k words
i’m so sorry, this is literally five months later but i hope you’re still around and enjoy this. also i forgot this was supposed to be a dinner break so instead it’s an afternoon snack
Tumblr media
Nick exhales a slow breath as he looks around his office to check on things. It’s a Friday afternoon and he is bored out of his mind. It turns out that being the mayor of Yonkers is not always exciting. Some days are hectic and stressful, others are slow and monotonous.
Friday afternoons are particularly tedious.
Through the glass partition he can see you hunched over your desk doing paperwork. You straighten up a little, roll your neck in an attempt to work out the kinks, then return to your paperwork. Nick reclines in his leather chair, feet crossed at the ankles and resting on the desk.
Now he remembers why he actually likes Friday afternoons; he gets to watch you work.
If the constituents knew that their mayor spends most of his Fridays sitting at his desk staring at his girlfriend, they would be picketing in front of the building with signs. But then he’s done worse things during working hours.
The clacking of the typewriter keys fills the otherwise silent office. You are not paying attention to Nick but he still hides his smile behind his hand when you discreetly stare daggers to your left at the other secretary. In your defense, Nick thinks, the sound is extremely irritating.
It sounds like a machine gun, constantly firing. You press your lips into a thin line and look away, fighting the urge to bash your own head against the desk. Your anger seems so disproportionate, so unreasonable, that a laugh bubbles up in Nick’s throat.
He observes you a little longer, an amused smile on his lips. He isn’t proud of it but he loves riling you up, annoying you until he has to apologize with his mouth in more ways than one.
*
You are on the phone with councilman Longo’s secretary when Nick enters your side of the office. He looks bored, aimless. You envy him. You have been swamped with work all week, you’re exhausted and everything seems to set you off.
The phone keeps ringing, Cheryl is literally punching the keys of the typewriter with her fingers, and Nick is… well he’s definitely looking for trouble. Despite being an ex-police officer, he’s not very subtle. He paces in front of you, hands in his pockets. It tightens the fabric around his backside and it is usually a very welcoming distraction, but not today.
Today you are just too worked up to take the bait.
Nick looks over his shoulder at you, sees that you are not paying attention to him, and gives a little nod to himself. He tries one more time because Nick Wasicsko is nothing if not persistent.
Out of the corner of your eye, you watch him walk over to your co-worker. He perches his butt on the corner of her desk and she smiles up at him, her fingers still moving furiously over the keys. He makes pleasant conversation with her while you try to block out their voices.
You are surprised that she is still at her desk, Cheryl isn’t known for her professionalism. She’s always ambling in the hallways or gossiping by the copy machine. The only reason you are working for Nick right now is because she is behind in her work. You could be on your porch repotting your azaleas right now.
You reach up to rub your temples in soothing circles. You’re not sure it’s working but it feels kind of nice.
And then, silence.
You open your eyes and look around the room to find Cheryl putting on her coat. Confused, you glance at the clock. You still have over an hour of work until you can clock out. She thanks him, powerwalking to the door before he can change his mind.
Once the door closes behind her, Nick turns to you with a satisfied grin. He opens his arms and gives a little bow, “et voilà.”
“You let her leave early?”
“I’m letting all of us leave early,” he counters, still perched on her desk.
You appreciate the gesture but you have too much work to do. You need to make sure everything is ready for the event next week, you have to update the calendar, and there’s a pile of unopened mail on your desk from three weeks ago.
Your lack of enthusiasm makes Nick frown. He stands behind you, hands on your shoulders.
“I thought you’d be more excited,” he says, massaging your shoulders.
You can’t see him but you’re almost certain that he is pouting. He is going to overthink this. You’re just tired and grumpy, but he’s going to dissect this until he comes to the conclusion that you don’t love him anymore.
And that’s the last thing you want. You take one of his hands and bring it to your lips. “I am,” you reassure him, kissing away his doubt. “Let’s just finish this and then we can go home.”
He makes a sound, half whimper, half whine. “Can’t it wait until Monday?” He digs his fingertips into your arms and tries to pull you closer. “C’mon,” he coos, “please.”
“Okay, okay. Just do this one thing for me.” You straighten up in your chair. “Sign these documents so I can send them before the end of the day.”
He makes a face at the thought of having to work, even if it’s just to write his name on a few sheets of paper. Once Nick has made his mind up about something, no one can stop him.
“It’s past four, these won’t be send until Monday anyway.”
“Nick, please.”
He picks up the handset and leaves it on your desk, the high-pitched buzzing of the dial tone humming faintly from the receiver. You bat his hand away and press the button that will automatically transfer callers to voicemail.
“All right,” he relents, walking into his office. “Come here.”
You gather your papers into a neat stack and bring it into Nick’s office. He looks like a petulant child behind his desk and you can’t help but smile as you set the pile of documents down in front of him.
He looks up at you with his big, brown eyes. I want to go home. You cup the side of his face and stroke his cheekbone with your thumb. It won’t be long, promise.
Nick quickly skims through the stack of legal documents, scribbling his signature at the bottom of each page. You stand next to him, watching silently. After a moment, you stop paying attention and let your eyes travel around the office.
A startled gasp slips past your lips when you feel a pair of hands settle at your hips. Nick whirls you about, a shit eating grin on his face. You stumble over your own feet but steady yourself with your hands on his shoulders.
Once the room stops spinning, you see that Nick is still sitting in his desk chair but you are now trapped between him and the desk. He looks up at you with a satisfied grin, almost predatory, and you find yourself clenching your thighs together. His hands are still on your hips, and his quiet groan tells you that he definitely felt that.
The skirt you are wearing today is long, it reaches almost to your ankles, but it doesn’t deter Nick whose hands are slowly travelling down your legs. He gathers two handfuls of your skirt and slowly exposes your underwear.
“W-What are you doing,” you ask with a breathless laugh.
“What does it look like I’m doing?” he replies, feigning exasperation. “I’m working.” He leans forward and presses a kiss to your navel.
You stop him.
“Nick, the door.”
“What about it?”
“It’s unlocked.”
He has to strain his neck to look at the door. It’s on the other side of the room, behind his own door and your desk. He purses his lips into a mock thinking pout before he turns to you. “I don’t care.”
You consider it too. God, you don’t want him to move but what if someone walks into the room and finds the mayor with his face buried between his secretary’s legs. Now come to think of it, that’s an exciting thought.
“Yeah,” you agree.
You don’t have to tell him twice. He’s all smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and your body begins to relax. When he yanks your underwear down your legs, you yelp in surprise and start chuckling. Nick shushes you, trying to contain his own laughter.
You lean back and support your weight on your forearms, trying to make yourself comfortable on the hard surface of the desk.
A beam of sunlight shines through the window onto Nick’s face, his lovely dark eyes light up, revealing flecks of amber and gold. The dial of his watch catches the sunlight, momentarily blinding you, though the movement makes you realize that he is rolling up his sleeves.
You are giddy with excitement, nudging him with the toe of your shoe. He slides off his chair to kneel in front of you and spreads your legs wide. He looks up at you, adoration shining in his eyes though there is something in his smile that makes a chill run up your spine.
You decide to focus on the sight of him on his knees. It always makes you feel so powerful to have the Mayor of Yonkers on his knees ready to please you with his talented mouth. And like the good politician he is, he’s always eager to please.
Putting all your weight on your forearm, you reach out to touch his face. He has one of your legs draped over his shoulder, his lips slowly tracing a path from your knee to your thigh, his teeth lightly playing with the sensitive skin of your thigh.
He does his best to keep your skirt above his head so he can look at you. You comb your fingers through his hair, biting your bottom lip in anticipation as he inches closer to your pussy. Your lips are parted, little whimpers and moans echoing around you.
His thumb drags through the folds of your pussy, wet with desire and ready to suck him in. Your fingers tighten in his silky hair, urging him closer. You can feel his smile against your skin, the hair above his lip so familiar.
Your moans are high-pitched little sighs, breathless and needy, as he finally lowers his mouth to your folds. He licks from your entrance to your clit, his free hand holding you firmly against him.
You are disoriented, your moans get louder and louder and you simply don’t give a flying fuck. He pushes your skirt up, freeing his hand so he can spread your thighs wider. You are slouched on the desk, gasping and panting, one hand half-heartedly holding your skirt above Nick’s head, the other still in his hair.
He presses his tongue flat against your pussy, moaning into you, his half-lidded gaze meeting yours. You are completely shattered, crying out his name, rocking against him, pulling his hair. He can feel the way your pussy clenches, desperately needing something to grip onto but achingly empty.
He slides two thick fingers inside your slick hole and starts sucking your clit. Your climax soars through you, fists clenched, body convulsing, back arching off the desk. He helps you ride out your orgasm, filthy words of encouragement whispered against your skin.
Your soul is slowly returning to your body and you are keenly aware that his tongue is still lapping gently at your centre, gathering the evidence of your orgasm on his tongue.
You hum tiredly, running your fingers through his hair, when you feel the tip of his tongue trace a pattern; a line slanted downward, another upward. He repeats the motion again. It feels good, unusual but good.
Then you feel it again; a line slanted upward, a line slanted downward, and one across. Behind your closed eyes, you frown. The pattern is too complex, it has to be deliberate. You trace it in your mind.
“What are you-” the end of your sentence is cut off with a moan as his tongue traces a ‘S’ shape from your clit to your hole. And despite the post-orgasm fog, it hits you. He’s been writing letters, a ‘W’, an ‘A’, and an ‘S’. He is writing his fucking name. “You have got to be joki- oh, Jesus Christ!”
He ends his ‘I’ by sucking on your clit and you’re a moaning mess again. It takes you another second to remember what you were about to say. The ‘C’ makes you buck against his mouth and by the time he hits you with the ‘S’ you are completely ruined.
You try to sit up, marvelling at the look on his face. He looks so proud of himself. This idiot. Your idiot. He finishes with a ‘K’ and a ‘O’, and that’s pretty much how you feel.
“You’re impossible, Wasicsko.”
“Hey, you’re the one who kept bugging me for my signature.”
“I wanted you to sign paperwork.” You slide limply to your knees, Nick laughing softly as he catches you in his arms. “God, Nick, we have to stop doing this in your office.”
He presses a kiss to the top of your head. “Did you like it?”
You rest your forehead on his shoulder and try not to scream. Your legs are still shaking from the aftermath of your orgasm and he damn well knows that. God, he’s such a sucker for praise. He definitely earned it though.
“Yes, I loved it.”
You kiss him hard, tasting yourself on his lips, swallowing his little gasp. He cups the back of your head and slips his tongue into your mouth. His moustache tickles your upper lip, scratches your skin as he gets lost in the kiss. He squeezes his eyes shut, causing the space between his eyebrows to furrow.
He’s holding on to you for dear life when you both come back for air.
“I love you,” he breathes out, gazing lovingly into your eyes. “You know that, right?”
“I love you, too.”
Nick smiles, relieved, happy. Your heart soars for this man. He helps you to your feet, his erection obvious now that he is standing. “Now, c’mon, you slacker,” he says, taking your hand and dragging you to the large conference table behind his desk. “We haven’t desecrated this part of the office yet.”

Note
well now that it's been mentioned, councilman!dresden au lore?
I didn't have it planned before this so let's see where it goes!
Long post btw
before the foundation, Dresden's life... it was mid as hell. Like it wasn't bad, his parents were healthy, and he was an only child, but nothing too major happened. but what Dresden was is incredibly smart. so smart in fact that one day after one of his college classes, when he was back in his dorm, there was some random suit there (basically that one scene of Nick Fury in FFH except Dresden's roommate doesn't get tranqed)
This man is an Agent of the Foundation, and they think Dresden would be an exceptional fit. Dresden makes a deal that once he finishes his studies, he'll come work for The Foundation. so a few years pass and Dresden graduates at the top of his class and goes to work at the foundation.
Over the next few decades, Dresden became one of The Foundation's most loyal employees. He grew to truly believe in their mission, to protect the world from anomalies. He was suspicious of the O5 Council, their foundation's leaders, but he always assumed that they were playing some form of long game, seeing something he could not.
However, there was one person who Dresden did trust, above anyone else: Hakaru Nakamuri, his partner. She was brilliant, some would argue more than Dresden, but she was more compassionate than he. She and Dresden met during their early years at the Foundation, assigned to the same research team. They became inseparable, and eventually, their relationship evolved when Dresden proposed. Now it must be said that romance in the Foundation is quite rare as working at there has proven to be incredibly deadly. And yet, Dresden and Hakaru's love for each other only grew stronger with time.
The decay started off slow. A containment breach here, information leaking there, nothing that was unfamiliar to them. But the rate at which these risks were happening began to skyrocket. It went from a containment breach every few months to a dozen in about two. Their agents were being exposed, and their people began to die. In only a few months their numbers had gone from millions to only tens of thousands.
Dresden and Hakaru were in one of the bunkers, with Dresden trying to plan out what their next move would be. Hakaru was concerned, it'd been days since the last time Dresden slept. She managed to convince him to lay with her for only a few moments. All was calm... until the alarms sounded.
Since the foundation was low on manpower, Dresden was forced into a security position along with his other duties. He sprang up and quickly put on his gear and dashed into the main area. The way the bunker was built made it basically a massive hallway with a curved roof. At the far end, barreling towards the terrified employees, was SCP-682, aka the Hard to Destroy Reptile.
Quickly, Dresden and Hakaru joined the mob, running down the hall to the evacuation area. In the confusion, they were split up. Dresden tried to walk back to her but the people were like an ocean, carrying him away from her. Soon the titanium gate fell, leaving Dresden in the evacuation zone and Hakaru stuck with 682.
His heart pounding with fear, Dresden didn't waste any time before trying to find a way back. The screams of fear and roars by the reptile shook him to his core, but he kept going. Eventually, Dresden peaked out from behind cover to see 682 directly over Hakaru. Tossing a small fragment of metal away, 682 was distracted, long enough for Dresden to get to Hakaru and pull her to safety. She was heavily injured, bleeding severely, but Dresden would not let her go.
Dresden cradled Hakaru in his arms until eventually, 682 wandered off, allowing for reconnaissance to begin. She was dragged off to one of the last remaining hospitals, Dresden with her every step of the way. She was in a coma, but her projections were looking solid. But then days turned into weeks, and still, she remained unconscious. One day Dresden had to deal with some business and when he returned, the access to Hakaru's room was closed off. He asked what happened, and one of the doctors told him. She was dead. And guess what else? She was pregnant.
Dresden's mind went blank. He didn't fully register what had happened, so he just thanked the doctor and walked away. It wasn't until he was in the stairwell. He cried. No, Dresden sobbed for what felt like hours. It was then he decided: this could never happen again. No one else was going to die. He's lost too many people already. First, Clef went missing, and now his wife and child were ripped away from him. All the while their precious leaders were silent.
So he wouldn't get distracted by his grief, Dresden began looking through all the most restricted files to find the Council. Eventually, he discovered their location, a facility in the middle of the Arctic. Dresden didn't care if their base was in the darkest pits of hell, he was going to find the Council.
After what felt like an eternity of relentless pursuit, Dresden reached the hidden facility where the O5 Council resided. When he got inside he saw four figures from various religions, Zeus, Shiva, Ra, and Lucifer. On the center seat was a nearby Amazonian woman with blonde hair and runes over both her arms and shoulders.
(you know how this scene works so I'm just gonna skip a bit)
After Dresden punched her, instead of going for another one like normal Dresden, he didn't get greedy. So, when she summoned a plume of lava, Dresden was able to dodge out of the way. He didn't get wholly unscathed as the entire right side of his body was covered in rocks, but at least it wasn't the whole thing this time. Still, it hurt like a trick so he was on the ground.
As Tarsa and her groupies were about to leave, a gunshot rang out and Lucifer dropped to the floor. Everyone looked to the source of the gunshot to see a man in a white suit with a cowboy hat and sunglasses. Smiling, he raised his revolver, saying "Evenin' gents!"
From behind him, a man in a black trench coat dashed out from the shadows. He quickly punched Tarsa in the face, knocking her down. All around him, the councilmen were under attack. Zeus was being slashed by a man with a knife, Shiva was locked in a fight with a man with more arms from his jacket than the deity, Ra was being battered by a woman, and all the while Tarsa and the man in the coat were locked in battle.
His entire body throbbing, Dresden managed to hoist himself to his feet. The cowboy ran over to him, supporting him over his own shoulder. "Come on, bud," After he got Dresden a little further away, the cowboy jumped back into the fight.
Soon, all of the deities were slain and all that was left were Tarsa and the man with the coat. Tarsa was fighting back the best she could but the man seemed far more skilled. "Ay Siegel!" The cowboy said. They both looked at him to see him holding the sword Lucifer carried on his person at all times. "Catch!" The sword flew through the air, and Siegel caught it effortlessly. With a single swift strike, Aaron cut down Tarsa, killing her. In her dying actions, Tarsa transferred the runes on her arms to Dresden. That was the last thing he saw before he blacked out.
Dresden awoke in a dimly lit hospital room. To his right was the man who killed Tarsa, Siegel.
"Good, you're awake." Dresden blinked, trying to clear his vision. His body ached, and the events of the battle with the Council replayed in his mind like a nightmare he couldn't shake off.
Siegel's voice brought him back to reality. "What… what happened?" Dresden managed to croak out, his throat dry from exhaustion.
Siegel, who properly introduced himself as Aaron Siegel, gave Dresden a history lesson. During the fall of the Foundation, Aaron and a few others, those he fought the Council with, formed the Society for the Preservation of Humanity. During the war, which in the future would be known as the Anomalous War, they tried their best to save as many people as they could. Now, with the help of Dresden, they might be able to salvage their world. Dresden agreed.
It took years, but eventually, even their most dangerous anomalies were contained. After they were, Dresden, Aaron, and the others formed the New SCP Foundation, with themselves as the O5 Council. Many, many, many years later, everything had somehow gone back to normal, like it was before the war. The only thing that was changed is now Dresden Oakland was known as O5-14, also known as The Overseer.
One day, during an experiment at The Overseer's official laboratory, operatives from a spinoff company from the Foundation known as Async discovered the existence of other timelines. Worlds where things can either be minutely or monumentally different. When word of this news reached Dresden, one thought permeated through the rest: what if there was another version of Tarsa?
He thought it irresponsible for him to let Tarsa live if he could stop her. He knew he couldn't go out the gate to his associates saying "Hey, I wanna go murder this lady." Not all of them knew of Tarsa like he did. He resolved to slowly build up to that, starting with gathering resources on any allies that Tarsa had made along with general information about this new timeline. Dresden scheduled a meeting wi the Council, resolving to bring it up at that time. Until then, Dresden thought of all the ways he could kill Tarsa.

Sept. 3 (UPI) -- An 11-year-old boy is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two family members inside a home in Minden, La., early Sunday morning.
He is being held with a $500,000 bond set, Minden Police Chief Jared McIver said during a 2 p.m. CDT news conference Tuesday.
"We're leaning towards only one shooter," McIver told reporters. "That's not a conclusion" but "we're not seeing evidence there's another shooter."
The unidentified boy, 11, is a family member of the two deceased shooting victims, who are Joe Cornelius, 82, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, 31.
McIver declined to say how the boy is related to the two victims and said the local prosecutor has not determined if the boy will be charged as a juvenile or an adult.
Police received an emergency call reporting gun shots at a home on the 111 Austin St. at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and found Joe Cornelius and Miles dead after each had been shot multiple times.
The officers also found the boy, whose age initially was reported as 10, and two hidden firearms, McIver said.
McIver said investigators believe both firearms were used in the shootings but are awaiting forensics to confirm they were the only ones.
A guardian was present when investigators questioned the boy, who initially "gave a story that didn't add up" but eventually admitted to the shooting and how he obtained the firearms, McIver told media.
He declined to say how the boy obtained the firearms when asked by a reporter.
"If a person wants to do harm to someone, they are going to do that," McIver said. "It doesn't matter what weapon was used."
He said the next step in the investigation is to get all evidence to ensure there was no other weapon used and wait for autopsies on the victims.
A neighbor on Sunday told a reporter for KSLA News he heard about eight gunshots fired inside the home.
The neighbor said he is Cornelius' cousin and heard the boy and man arguing shortly before hearing the shots.
McIver said a family member placed the 911 call Sunday morning and the boy allegedly used two firearms to shoot and kill Cornelius and Miles, McIver said.
McIver also said investigators don't know the motive and hope to learn soon, adding that talk of the boy using a credit card for video games leading to the argument and shootings is a "rumor."
Cornelius was a "great-natured man" who worked with the city marshals and frequently made friendly visits the police station," McIver said, adding that the "shock factor" of the double homicide has affected much of the local community.
"It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Joe Cornelius Sr., a former longtime Minden City councilman and former appointed mayor of Minden," the town's Mayor Nick Cox said Sunday in a prepared statement.
"Joe Cornelius' years of service to Minden were marked by his commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community. On a personal note, I am grateful for his friendship and the many ways he supported me and others in our city," Cox said.
He asked local residents to "keep Joe's family in our thoughts and prayers."
Minden is located about 30 miles east of Shreveport, La.

This wasn't clear to me, but maybe it is to you so I want to ask: why did Rio introduce Beth to his family when he did? And furthermore, is Rio's grandma actually involved in his and Nick's illegal activities? Or was the "boss" he was introducing her to Nick? But based on what we saw of Nick and Rio's relationship, I find it hard to believe that Rio would willingly introduce Beth to Nick. He also seemed so surprised to see her as if he had never heard of her. So did Grandma actually want to meet her? Does Rio talk about her to his family? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR THEM?! These two have me so twisted up!
You and me both, Anon! 🥨
To address grandma first: no, she wasn’t part of the crime operation. At least, not in any way the show presented to us. All the assets Nick holds and all the contracts he cut are in her name, absolving him (and Rio) of their crimes. So Grandma was just that – a grandma.
As far as why Rio introduced Beth to Nick in such a domestic setting… My understanding of it is that Nick wanted it that way. His whole schtick is that he’s just your friendly neighbor councilman. My guess is he didn’t want to meet in some shady diner or anywhere outside his control. He would have wanted to seem non-threatening. Meet Beth and also not appear to be at the root of all these criminal activities. I don’t think Nick knew that Rio told Beth she would be meeting his boss. I think Rio told her that to intrigue her and maybe even to give her some crumbs to provide to whomever she was informing (because I’m convinced he knew she was.)
The thing is, Rio sees everything as an opportunity. So my guess is he thought he’d use the family dinner setting to his advantage. It was a clear intent for him to appeal to Beth’s humanity. Show her he wasn’t a monster. Get her to see him as a real person and maybe change her mind about whatever she was doing to cooperate with law enforcement. He played Nick and Beth off each other. They each came to that dinner wearing their masks. Pretending to be the personas they usually put on for polite society. But Rio knew them both. Had seen them each without their masks. So it was an opportunity for him to throw both Nick and Beth off with unexpected outcomes as they met each other. Nick was surprised that Beth was just a soccer mom. Beth was surprised that Nick wasn’t some shady crime boss. Neither of them got what they were expecting and it bought Rio time to play his long game.
I hope that all made sense. It’s so murky and a lot of the plot makes so little sense. Who knows whose idea it was to have them meet at a family dinner. But it certainly worked out in Beth’s favor. 😂

Ok this is soo random but I was always so confused about Nick's backstory??? Like were we supposed to think that Nick was the brains behind the operation the entire time?? Like how much was Rio and Nick working together? Was it 50/50. I feel like Nick's MO is that he was always super jealous of Rio because hello??? And always took credit for everything that Rio has built on his own. Is that a correct read? What's your opinion 🧐 also bonus but what do you think Beth's impression of Nick is?
firstly I think it's very important to remember that Nick is 5'9 like that informs so much
secondly I don't think we're meant to think he's the brains at all I mean he was giving Dense™. I try not to think of him but I got the vibe he and Rio operated in tandem to help eachother out, Rio from the actual crime side making money and Nick from his smarmy good guy façade role as a councilman to help bend the law when Rio needed it. Mutually beneficial but something Rio chafed against cause Nick is Nick and who wouldn't want to get rid of him tbh
Beth 'I'm 🤢 not doing 🤢 anything 🤢 with the brousin 🤢' Boland at best thought Nick was a fun way to find things out about Rio.

Diving Deep into the Sea with Moby Dick's
Moby Dick’s opened on August 18, 2022, as an upscale oyster bar on Campbell Ave in West Haven, CT. When walking by the bar you see a black stainless steel seating area and their artsy chalkboard sign. It may seem like any other bar or restaurant but once you step inside, it transforms into a whaler ship. “You should know that this place was called Moby Dick’s almost 50 years ago and we brought it back and we kept all the historic pieces of the building and we worked really hard with the town to make sure we keep things congruent with the other businesses. We've maintained our portholes and wood beams that resemble a whaling ship. We redid the floor to an art deco model and I think people have taken a liking aesthetically” said an owner, Nick Ruickoldt when asked how the people of West Haven felt about the new establishment.

People do not only love the looks but the food as well. “There are so many good dishes at Moby Dick’s. One being the mac and cheese which everybody likes, seafood and nonseafood lovers, you can always top it with lobster or bacon. We have suddenly become known for our meatballs. Everybody loves our meatballs, meatball fra diavolo, and meatball sliders” said Brianna Hackett, a bartender since the beginning who stuck through and became manager. Jeff Lamberti is the chef and has done nothing but an incredible job according to many customers and coworkers. Ruickoldt said hiring him was the most important step and main focus after finishing all the renovations. “Lamberti created a menu of multiple kinds of oysters that come in fresh every day. He does so many seafood specials, and is just so creative in the kitchen,” explained Ruickoldt.

The food is definitely a contributing factor as to why there are so many returning customers, but this certainly isn’t the only reason considering the several IPAs, lagers, and beers the bar has on draft. Ruickoldt thinks having local brewers represented in the bar such as New England Brewing Company located in New Haven, CT, Tribus in Milford, CT, and Whalers Rise from Rhode Island has brought an appeal to the community. However, Moby Dick’s doesn’t only have beer. They have a large assortment of cocktails from Old Fashioneds to “Captain” Collins. Some days Hackett feels like she makes “100” espresso martinis. Over the month of March, the fan favorite was the “Drunk Leprechaun.”

The group of people who went in on this project were not previous bar or restaurant owners, but they did have family in the industry. Ruickoldt is an Insurance broker for the Russell Agency and was a former fire commissioner and former city councilman. Evan Mink, a partner, and the permittee,  delivers baked goods and is a fire commissioner for the West Shore district in West Haven. When asked how the idea sparked, Ruickoldt replied  “So, we are lifelong residents of West Haven and our families were in the restaurant business for a long time and this opportunity came up, it was a vacant storefront on our main throughway in West Haven, Campbell Ave. We came and visited the property and immediately fell in love with all the old architecture and we thought we could tackle remodeling it and bring it back to life.”
It seems like they have done a fine job since they recently won the Greater Milford Chamber of Commerce “Best New Business” Award. The Greater Milford Chamber of Commerce is made up of West Haven, Milford, and a couple of other smaller surrounding towns. “Many news outlets picked up the story, which affected business significantly,” says Ruickoldt. Hackett told a story of an older couple who came in one night because they recently read an article in the West Haven Voice after winning the award. She remarked, “They would probably never have come in if it wasn’t for winning the award.” Hopefully, you get a chance to have the Moby Dick’s experience and #GetShucked.

What's your opinion on Rios and Nick's dynamic? I think MM and Ignacio have chemistry. I wish we got to see them work together and have a healthy family relationship but thats def not what we got. I still wouldn't mind if they had this complicated relationship. What's rly not sitting right with me is the way that Nick is abusive towards Rio and dont even get me started on this sick "love" triangle. Would love to know how you see it?
I think the whole storyline is a stupid mess.
Nick's "Power" He told Beth he was a caddie before he became a councilman. So after 15-20ish years, he hasn't risen higher than that? Councilpeople don't have that much power. If they had played it like Nick had made a lot of connections and simply passed info along to Rio (who also had his own connections), then fine. Still rewriting a lot of canon, but passable. But Nick mysteriously has all this influence. Cool. Where was he when Rio continued to work with the woman who got him busted? Where was he when Rio was "killed" and out of action for months? He obviously doesn't try to hide his connection to Rio (picked him up right in front of the police station, openly visits his bar, attends family functions together), but the show posits none of his political opponents dug up that dirt on him and used it. Please. Rio's (first) Beth-fueled arrest was on the news.
Nick & Rio dynamic It has only been a few episodes of Nick/Rio interaction and the writers are all over the place. The flashback episode made it seem like Nick was the brains and the driver of the criminal enterprise. Young!Rio's reasoning for going along was because......the one gym wouldn't take him back? That's it. So Rio was "forced" into crime by Nick, which is not at all how the character was written previously. Then the stool incident. Rio was needling Nick, so it wasn't like he was fearing retribution. He was shocked when Nick's bodyguard restrained him. But then he just brushes it off when Beth gleefully asks about it. And he doesn't seem upset about it the next time him & Nick interact. They tease each other, but sometimes Nick does actually seem to value his opinion on things.
The "love triangle" I've said since the first spoilers came out that I don't like love triangles. I especially don't like M-F-M love triangles because the woman is ALWAYS written as an object to possess. It's gross. And actually misogynistic. Although you wouldn't know that from fandom's hypocritical reception to this storyline. (psst: they like it because all they care about is Beth being desired by everyone.) And that's how it has played out—gross, misogynistic bullshit that objectifies Beth. Rio is acting like a tween with his first boner. And Nick is acting like a total creep. And for what? Beth never should have trusted someone she met thru Rio. I don't care how "clean" he's supposed to be. He openly admitted to Beth that he knows (at least) that Rio is up to shady stuff. So why did she trust him at all? And she most certainly did until the Secret Service showed up and set her wise. Nick has seen how Beth has ruined Rio's life. One thing that has been consistent with his characterisation is how savvy he is. So why is he getting involved with her at all? Because the writers want this dumb storyline. That's it.
"Family" I was over this brother/cousin nonsense after Nick's first appearance. Why is it a secret? It's not funny. It's not clever. And unless there's a Chinatown twist, it's pointless to keep dragging it out. If their relationship doesn't matter, then don't make it matter. You know? No one is clamoring to figure out Mick & Rio's relationship because "Mick works for Rio" is sufficient. So this is just more unnecessary drama that also shows how little thought the writers put into anything involving Rio. (I & some other haters called it. We've learned more biographical details about Nick in his scant time in the story than Rio in all 4 seasons. Krebs says: MYSTERIOUS!!!)
Additional points: If Nick had to be in politics, having him be a senator who spent a lot of time in D.C. and around the state would have been much smarter. Then the writers have an explanation for why this apparently actually in charge other presence (I wuv u, billy!) hasn't been around for really really really important moments on the show. And it would show a trajectory from caddie to local to state to national politics that is much more believable than "The Great and Powerful Councilman."
The ambiguous family stuff is low key high key stereotyping of Latine families.
The story would have been SO MUCH BETTER if Rio's boss was a woman. I would have preferred non-relative, but once I saw that they cast Marlene Forte as the grandma, I was fully ready to embrace her as the boss (I was stupidly—because I should know better by now—shocked by how they underutilised her). It would have opened up such interesting territory; especially in the face of Beth's continued use of her motherhood as a shield. And it would have been much more unique than this insulting men vs women thing they are doing.
Fuck! This got long. I hope I kinda answered your question 😬 You should definitely check out @jade-marie because she's written a number of posts about Rio & Nick and their relationship.

A 10-year-old has allegedly confessed to fatally shooting a former city councilman and his daughter, according to officials in Louisiana.
Officers in Minden, about 30 miles east of Shreveport, received a call at 6:30 a.m. Sunday about two bodies inside of a house, Minden Police Chief Jared McIver told ABC News.
Responders found Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, 31, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, he said.MORE: 49ers' Ricky Pearsall to miss at least 4 games after being shot in attempted robbery
The 10-year-old suspect -- who is related to the victims -- "confessed to the crime of murdering both," McIver said.
The 10-year-old, whose gender was not released, was at the house that morning and allegedly shot the victims between 6 and 6:30 a.m., the chief said.
A motive is not known, the chief said.
Two guns that belonged in the house were found hidden on the property, the chief said, and the shell casings at the scene were of the same caliber of the two guns.
Police are efforting an expert who specializes with children to interview the suspect and help determine next steps, McIver said.
"We still got to put some puzzle pieces together," the chief said. "The city can rest easy knowing that the suspect is off the street of a double homicide, but there’s also the shock factor that comes into play: How does a 10-year-old do this? There’s a sigh of relief, there’s a shock, there’s mourning, there’s just different emotions our city is running through right now. Only thing we can do right now is do this case the best we can."
The 82-year-old victim, Joe Cornelius Sr., was a longtime councilman in Minden and at one point served as the appointed mayor, according to Minden Mayor Nick Cox.
"Joe Cornelius’s years of service to Minden were marked by his commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community. On a personal note, I am grateful for his friendship and the many ways he supported me and others in our city," Cox said in a statement. "During this incredibly difficult time, I ask that we all keep Joe’s family in our thoughts and prayers. May they find comfort and strength in the midst of this tragedy. Let us come together as a community to honor Joe’s memory and support one another through this time of grief."

last request for now i promise! i love the idea of y/n as rio’s girlfriend meeting his family for the first time officially as his girl after he feels like she’s the one. she encounters nick and he ends up asking rio if she could be his plus at a charity benefit and rio’s just like “nah.” and then nick says “always taking what i want” which is what i think he says in the scene while they’re eating in the bar? SO NOW as the family trying
*ask continued* to eat, make small talk, and find out how in the hell rio could have landed home girl, he’s hella protectively jealous now especially since his girl and brother/cousin whatever tf is having a charming conversation and rio’s just seething 🙃. also the idea of this moment seeping into a few days of rio only being cordial with her and keeping her at bay /being assertive to her @ work intrigues me especially if either nick stops by their shared home since he knows it’ll get on rio nerves/or he catches y/n trying out dresses with the notion of attending this event with nick bc she doesn’t underdtand the big deal (+she likes when rio’s possessive but obvi not like this?) and rio’s mad mad but not at her😅. feel free to do whatever you’d like with this. it mostly sounds like angst and possessiveness so can you mush everything together if it’s easier for you.

-
You could already see how tight-knit his family was when you and Rio both walked into his grandma’s house. So much laughter and shared conversations. It eased your nervousness until they started staring once you walked in.
You started to feel a bit insecure but Rio knew they were just staring at how beautiful you were. As cocky as he was, even a little part of him wondered how he got you.
“Close your mouths before flies get in!” You heard an older woman coming from the kitchen. You saw the resemblance between her and Rio and figured this was his grandma.
You smiled when she first came up to Rio and kissed his cheek before hugging you next. “You must be Y/N. It’s so nice to meet you, carino.”She smiled.
“Likewise.” You hugged her back.
Before sitting down for dinner, Rio introduced you to everyone individually, letting you get comfortable.
You started to connect all the characteristics that Rio had to his family. There was a lot of subtle influences but you finally figured out why Rio was the way he was.
Nick.
“You’re not going to introduce me?” Nick asked Rio, smiling towards you. You could feel the tension coming from Rio.
“Y/N, Nick. My cousin.” He said, reaching for the bowl with the rice.
“Brother.” He corrected, giving him a cold stare.
“Cousin.” Rio corrected again, dumping a ladle full of rice on your plate.
“Nice to meet you.” You said, trying to ignore the quiet battle between the two.
You continued answering questions that everyone had for you. What you did, where you met, etcetera.
“Oh, you’re a councilman.” You said to Nick after he was discussing a city issue that no one could seem to solve.
“I am.” He said, noticing your intrigue. You started to engage yourself in the conversation, giving pointers on the issue that no one had thought of yet.
Rio was proud that you had so much knowledge and insight about every topic but he knew Nick and this conversation made him seethe. He hated that everything he had, whoever he had, Nick always wanted it.
“I like this one, Rio,” Nick laughed.
Rio narrowed his eyes at him. “Yeah, I do too.” He said and you could feel the tension rising again.
“Say, Y/N. There’s a charity benefit next weekend. Why don’t you come?” Nick asked. He was charming, you noticed. Too charming and you realized that there was an underlying evil lurking.
“Oh, um...” You didn’t know what to say. You were so taken aback that he would make a subtle pass at you in front of Rio.
“Always want what I have, huh?” Rio pursed his lips. You saw Rio’s grandma shake her head subtly.
“Always get it too.” Nick smiled.
The next couple of days following and you noticed Rio distancing himself from you but also being unusually possessive.
“Rio, it’s just a benefit. Your grandma even asked if we were going to be there.” You said, placing the call on speaker while you tried on another dress.
“I’m not going to that shit and you aren’t either.” He said, his tone letting you know how serious he was.
You rolled your eyes. “What’s up with you? Your grandma’s expecting us so we’re going Rio.” You said showing him that you can be serious.
“I’m not going to say it again.” He said, getting more upset.
“You’re not my dad, Rio.” You shook your head as he laughed in response.
“That’s not what you were saying the other night.” You could hear his smirk through the phone and kissed your teeth.
“I’ll see you when you get home.” You said before ending the call.
You examined the dress in the mirror and decided to just take it off but before you could, you heard a knock at the door.
You hurried to open it and was taken aback to see Nick standing there. He made a quick glance at the way the dress hugged you before you said something.
“What are you doing here?” You asked.
You noticed how Rio’s smirk was not just a him thing. It ran in the family and also meant that Nick was up to no good.
“Just picking up a package.” He said as he invited himself in, scanning the room around you.
“Oh, well Rio isn’t home right now.” You said, closing the door behind him.
He didn’t seem to mind waiting and you started to wonder what his ulterior motive was. “Oh, the issue we were discussing the other night. What you said surprisingly worked.” He told you.
You smiled proudly and you were just about to say something before you heard the door open indicating Rio was home.
You felt the tension in the room similar to the other day. Rio hid it as much as he could but he wanted so badly to put his hands on Nick. His house, his girlfriend. Everything sacred to him belonged here and Nick still found a way to weasel in.
You told Rio he was here to pick up a package.
“I told you I would give it to you myself." Rio said, dropping his keys. “Well, I was in the neighborhood.” He smiled.
"Your business is on the other side of town.” He said, not buying his story. “Like I said, I’ll give you the package.” He said, emphasizing that it was time for him to go.
Nick laughed to himself and walked to the door to leave. He turned towards you.
“You should go with the red.” He said, hinting towards one of the dresses you tried on. You already saw it coming but you were too far away to stop it.
You flinched once you saw the punch landing on Nick’s jaw.
“Rio!” You called before Nick threw a punch back near his eye. You contemplated how you were going to try to stop their fighting.
You knew it was a possibility of you getting hurt but you tried your best to put your body between them to stop their fists.
“Stop now! Stop!” You yelled, trying to push Rio away. Luckily, they had enough self-control to make sure they wouldn’t hit you and stopped.
“Nick, leave.” You told him. He shook his head while holding his jaw.
“You’re gonna regret that.” He said once more before he left for good.
You pushed Rio, visibly upset with him. “What’s wrong with you?!” You yelled again.
“Y/N, Nick is not trying to hear your opinions on gun control. Dude’s showing up to my crib knowing I’m not home, trying to get you to some charity benefit because he wants you.” He explained, wincing at the soreness in his face.
“I don’t see the big deal.” You said and walked to the freezer to get an ice pack.
“I know you ain’t slow, Y/N.” He said feeling like you weren’t even listening.
You walked back over to him and held the ice to his face, holding it there. “I don’t see how it’s a big deal when you and I both know he can’t have me. You’re so wrapped up in your head that you don’t even realize he’s already succeeding in pissing you off.” You said.
You could see Rio’s defeat. “Yeah, exactly. Look at you.” You rolled your eyes at his blackening eye.
“Sounds like you might be the slow one, dumbass.” You laughed.

If this is a bigger, thinkier question than you feel like dealing with right now, then please know I will not be offended if you don’t answer it. But anyway, I was just thinking about Nick and Rio. How would you headcanon that they got to where they got? Rio joined a gang, seemingly in prison, and worked his way up. Meanwhile Nick went the blue collar crime route. What do you think their partnership would’ve looked like before Rio was king and Nick was city councilman? Tbh I want a prequel!
Hi! Sorry it took me a minute to answer this one! It's a really interesting quetsion.
I think it was likely that Nick was the connect in those early days. The flashbacks in 4.08 showed that Nick was really building his relationships with the wealthy guests of the golf club and acting as a sort of gopher for them. He's always been depicted as pretty parasitic, but I think in those early days he was focused on making himself indispensable to a particular sort of guy, and as he built up their trust, he was able to utilise that.
It's likely that at least some of those guys were probably interested in drugs, and we know that's where Rio started because of his conversation with Beth way back in 1.06, and I can see that being a way for Nick to prove his worth (and gain a degree of control) by connecting that crowd to Rio and the gang's business. While it wouldn't afford Rio the same degree of protection Nick's capable of later, it probably does already give them a bit of security given Nick would at that point have enough dirty laundry over the golf club guys to give him leverage.
I feel like in that sense, Nick became a sort of plug for those guys fairly quickly, and likely could work as an intermediary between the gang's affairs and the guys through Rio, and once Rio was moving up and into money laundering, I think Nick was probably able to help broach a lot of those relationships. It makes sense for instance that Nick would have those sorts of dynamics with the owners of the Fine & Frugal chain from operating in that sort of crowd for as long as he had, and as a result be able to sort of lubricate the business dealings to get them washing Rio's gang's cash.
What that means for Rio and Nick's relationship I think is really what we saw on the show. They were fairly symbiotic in many ways, and I think the main reason their relationship was tense was less about the business and more the fact that it had been built on the trauma of Nick having him arrested in the first place. Nick deliberately forced Rio into this particular life, and then he used him in it, and while Rio turned that into something that worked for him, I imagine there's a lot of fury and pain attached to that still too.
What do you guys think?

Chapter Title: The Causeway
Tumblr media
Later that same day, Christina got a call from her father informing her that she received intel that was proving her theory right. Nothing was confirmed yet, the was no doubt that Nick Fury had been suspicious of something and now his curiosity had been the reason he had been killed. Granted, the man had managed to escape death earlier during the car chase which led to the asset being called in. He had caused the explosion, but he managed to fix his mistake later that night when he shot him three times. The Director had sought refuge at Captain America’s apartment, and that’s when the blond soldier faced the infamous Winter Soldier. It was a silly name, but one that Christina had to admit was somewhat thrilling to hear others mutter. She even used it at times when she couldn’t call him by his nickname. She called him Winter, which he hated. She knew enough by the grunts he let out whenever she used it.
Alexander had called after Fury’s death had been confirmed and had told her that if things kept going the way they were going, she would have to be ready to make her first major appearance along with the asset and take out anyone that created attention to anything suspicious. He hoped it didn’t come to that, but she knew better than to believe her father was an optimistic man. She had been out for small missions, mostly shadow work, but he trusted that she would not do more than an amazing job at achieving their ultimate goal, control.
By the time morning had come around she could only guess SHIELD headquarters was buzzing with questions and rumors alike. She was thankful that she got to lay in her bed and ignore homework that she thought was useless for the day. Sooner or later, she would have to prepare to do some more chaos.
SHIELD HQ
World Security Council
“Nick Fury was murdered in cold blood. To any reasonable person that would make him a martyr, not a traitor.”
Alexander was not in the best of moods. Captain America was now a fugitive of SHIELD not to mention a threat to HYDRA. The soldier had incapacitated his STRIKE team, and then proceeded to throw himself of an elevator, and then to top it all he had run out of headquarters before anyone could truly stop him. Steve Rogers was hiding something, and Alexander was itching to get his hands on whatever that was which he was sure was what had led Nick Fury to ask for the delay of Project Insight. And now here he was, having to defend the name of a man he had ordered to kill to keep pretenses, yet he couldn’t ignore the fact that he had held a certain amount of respect for the man.
“You know what makes him a traitor? Hiring a mercenary to hijack his own ship,” exclaimed Councilman Rockwell.
“Nick Fury used your friendship to coerce this council into delaying Project Insight. A project he knew would expose his own illegal operations. At best, he lied to you. At worst…” Councilman Singh looked troubled as he stopped himself from continuing, and that had been the moment Alexander noticed where the discussion could go, if not, intended to go.
“Are you calling for my resignation?” He looked around, “I’ve got a pen and paper right here.”
“That discussion can be tabled for a later time,” said Councilwoman Hawley with a serious yet regrettable look. That, he hadn’t expected.
“But you do want to have a discussion.” Alexander looked at them all with his hands on his hips as he looked hesitantly at the Council members.
“We’ve already had it, Mr. Secretary.” A small pause from Councilman Rockwell, “this Council moves to immediately reactivate Project Insight. If you want to say something snappy, now would be a good time.”
Alexander Pierce did not say anything snappy, but could he consider this a win? Were they ready to launch it or was Rogers still a problem?
Pierce Residence
Christina, once again, found herself working out her stress and anxiety away. For a trained killer she really had way too many issues to be allowed to carry a gun. Well, technically she wasn’t allowed, but it’s not like anyone could stop her. She had been working out for more than she was supposed to, but when she was in her head, time didn’t matter, it didn’t matter if she was soaking through her clothes, or that she couldn’t even feel half of the weight she was actually lifting.
“Miss Pierce.”
She was worried. She didn’t even know why. But she was feeling too much, she felt things she didn’t know she could feel. Ever since it was confirmed that Director Fury had been killed Christina couldn’t stop the feeling that something was wrong, something felt off.
“Miss Pierce.”
She was now angry. Her mind was now wondering if it had been the right call, to kill the man or even have Captain America targeted. She shouldn’t be wondering if it is wrong or right, she cannot feel bad for anyone that her father wanted dead. She can’t be feeling things like a normal teenager, she wasn’t one, she would never be.
“Miss Pierce!”
Christina raised her head to see Renata standing near her with a worried expression. Christina set the weights back to their place carefully before she sat up on the bench and looked at the woman.
“Sorry, you need something, Renata?”
“No, Miss Pierce. But your father called and said that was on his way home. He told me to tell you to meet him in his office after you’ve taken a shower as I told him you were working out.”
Christina nodded and muttered a soft ‘thank you’ as the woman walked out to continue with whatever she was doing before she had come looking for her. Christina left for her room as she dragged herself to take a shower. She let the hot water hit her skin and she hissed at the pain it brought her. She hadn’t noticed how far she had turned the dial, nevertheless, she left it there.
Two hours later, and she had finally decided that she had wasted enough water for the day before she grabbed the towel and dried her body. She grabbed her phone and noticed that it was almost midnight and she had barely had anything to eat and what she had she burnt while working out. She knew her dad was probably taking a shower as well by now, so with that in mind, she headed down toward the kitchen. The house was dark, except for the area near the door. She walked around the corner while she debated if she wanted to eat hot pockets or cereal. She went for the latter as she opened the fridge and took out her milk, and just as she closed the fridge door she slowed her movements as she felt eyes on her. She pretended she didn’t feel them, but she knew they were not there to attack which led her to conclude who those burning eyes belonged to. She opened a cabinet and grabbed a bowl as she proceeded to pour some of her favorite cereal and then the milk. Just when she turned around after grabbing a spoon, Christina heard her father's quiet steps approach the kitchen. She didn’t say anything as she ate her cereal while her eyes were on the person sitting at the small table.
Her father didn’t question her as he went directly to the fridge and grabbed his own milk and just as he turned he noticed the man with the metal arm.
“I’m going to go, Mr. Pierce. You need anything before I leave?” Renata’s voice made Alexander flinch a little while Christina tensed up. Christina glanced at the asset as he looked in the direction where the voice came from before returning his gaze to Christina and his boss.
“No. Uh…it’s fine, Renata, you can go home,” said Alexander with a hesitant voice. Christina was unmoving as she waited for the worse.
“Okay, night-night.” No one moved until the door closed behind Renata.
“Want some milk?” asked Alexander as if he actually waited for a response from the man which only caused Christina to hide a snort by continuing to eat her cereal.
Her father moved to grab a glass and when he turned and saw the scowling man wasn’t going to accept the offer, he proceeded to talk business.
“The timetable has moved. Our window is limited. Two targets, Level Six.” As he took a sip from his milk, he walked around the kitchen island and took a seat right next to the man, “They already caused me Zola. I want confirmed death in ten hours.”
Christina tried to process what her father had said and wondered who the other target could be. She guessed one had to be Captain America which would mean there was a high probability the other target was Black Widow. They had been the reason behind Zola being destroyed which she now was finding out.
“You and The Princess will be responsible for this mission,” said Alexander as he looked at his daughter. She was now leaning against the kitchen counter as she held back a groan at that stupid code name they had given her. Granted, it sounded better in Russian, but they had given her the nickname after she had brought up the talk with her father about how the asset’s nickname was The Winter Soldier. She hadn’t meant to ask for one, but Rumlow had been there, and he had given it to her just to piss her off, but her father had liked it enough after an officer had said it in Russian.
“Я постараюсь не украсть твой гром.[i]” Christina couldn’t help herself from adding with a small grin as she glanced at the man. She knew he spoke English, but she had grown to understand that he spoke mostly Russian and German as it had been the languages he had been exposed to the most during his…training. But before anyone could say anything else, a voice had Christina and Alexander flinching.
“Sorry, Mr. Pierce, I…I forgot my phone.” Renata had walked into the kitchen and the air had suddenly turned tense. Christina looked at Renata with fear but not because she had scared her, no, but she was scared of what she knew was going to happen next.
Renata glanced at the mysterious man before looking back at her boss with a hint of fear behind her eyes. Alexander looked dejected as he turned toward the table to grab the gun that had been sitting there since the other man arrived.
“Oh, Renata. I wish you would have knocked.”
And just like that, Christina became numb to everything the second the two shots were fired at Renata by Alexander. Renata’s screams were louder than the ringing of the shots and Christina had the urge the vomit the cereal she had been eating but she restrained herself as she knew she couldn’t react. She couldn’t show weakness because, just maybe, the next bullet will be directed toward her.
“Find the targets, and make sure they are eliminated, I don’t want them going around trying to ruin everything,” said Alexander as he stood from his chair and grabbed his milk before dumping the rest of it down the drain and washing off the glass. But before he left, he turned toward the asset, “clean this up, will you? Make it look like a mugging gone wrong or something.”
With that, Alexander excused himself and went to his room. Christina on the other hand didn’t move from her spot. She hadn’t moved a finger since Renata had walked into them talking. But she did the second she saw the man with the metal arm walk toward Renata’s lifeless body. With that, Christina bolted to her room and proceeded to vomit the damn cereal she had been enjoying.
The next morning, she woke up with a headache and an aching stomach. Nevertheless, she got out of bed and got ready to head to HYDRA’s base before heading out to silence a ninety-six-year-old super soldier and an ex-KGB assassin. If she was being completely honest, Christina wanted to sit this one out. She felt like she would mess up somehow and everything will go to shit, but she couldn’t back out. This wasn’t something she had a say in but damn her father once more for making her part of this murderous life he led.
When she arrived at the base she saw how everyone that was going to partake in the mission was getting ready while others helped get things ready to go.
“Miss Pierce, you will be in that car alongside the asset.” An Officer held a briefcase which he sat atop a table as Christina approach the area. “The batons are ready, and as you requested, they connect.”
Christina waited for the man to open the case and that had been enough to bring her a small smile. Her training batons were finally made for field combat. The shining metal glistened as she took them out from the case. She turned them expertly and swiftly before she went to connect them, and lord, that clicking had been almost pleasant to hear.
“Your gear is in the locker room waiting for you, miss.”
With that, she set her batons down and went to get ready. The locker room was empty when she walked in. She opened her locker and there she found her black suit. With a long sigh, she proceeded to get ready. She will never get used to the low pants, the long sleeve undershirt that went along the almost impossible-to-put-on vest and belts, and the heavy black combat boots. She walked out of the room and headed back toward the main area. She noticed that now the asset was there, grabbing his gun, knives, and other items he always carried. Christina walked over to her section and grabbed her own stuff. She wasn’t much of a gun person, but she had to carry them. She grabbed pocketknives, and last but not least her new baton/batons. But just as she was about to turn around and get in the car, the asset walked toward her. He was already wearing his goggles and mask. She looked up at him and for some reason she expected him to question why she had run out on him last night, but instead, he set down her own mask and goggles before walking to the car. She glanced at them before she put them on, hating the day she was born.
It was past lunchtime when they had received intel of the whereabouts of Captain America and the Black Widow. They had gotten themselves Jasper Sitwell which now Christina didn’t know whether they were supposed to rescue him or kill him before he babbled secrets away. They were on the highway when they had managed to tail the car the targets were using, and before anyone could react, the asset was moving around and climbing out of the speeding car. He walked toward the front of the car. Christina only sat there questioning the man’s sanity as she saw him jump to the roof of the car. From what she could see, the asset broke a window and to her surprise, she saw him pull out Agent Sitwell and then throw him in front of an incoming cargo truck.
“Shit.” She cursed at him because that had been either completely reckless of his part or his gut telling him that he had talked and was now a loose end.
The asset grabbed his gun and shot through the roof of the car trying to kill anyone seating in the back and the front but before another bullet escaped his gun, the car came to a sudden break sending him forward.
He landed on his back but just as he bounced again on the hard concrete he stopped himself from rolling as his metal hand clawed and destroyed the concrete.
Christina and the rest had lost the car along the way but soon they sped toward the car and with force, their car pushed theirs toward the asset.
The asset waited before he jumped and flipped atop the car flawlessly. Christina had to admit the man was impressively reckless.
As he tried to get a better hold of the car, the asset took the opportunity to punch through the windshield and pull the steering wheel out of its place. He threw it away and as a gun went off from inside the car toward the roof, he jumped back to the car Christina was in.
Now without the steering wheel, the car was losing control and with a hit from their car, the wrecked car hit the side of the dividing panels and flipped, but to everyone’s surprise, the passenger door came off along with its three passengers.
The car came to an abrupt stop as the targets were still alive. Quickly everyone came out of the car and one of the men gave the asset a grenade launcher. He aimed at the two important targets, but the blond man had pushed the redhead before the grenade had hit the man’s shield sending him off the bridge.
The rest of the companions started shooting at Romanoff and the Black man they had been with. Christina just walked alongside the asset as he waited for the perfect opportunity to shoot another grenade and he did when the woman had started shooting back. She had managed to jump to the other side of incoming cars. The shooting was now completely directed at her and just as she ran past a car, the asset shot a grenade in hopes it would finally take her out. But as if he sensed that she was still alive, he grabbed one of the guns he was offered and walked toward the other side of the bridge. He waited to see if she was going to walk out but noticing that she wasn’t, he directed his gun to the broken window of the bus where the man with the shield had been sent because of the grenade, and just as he was ready to shoot, a bullet hit the lens of his goggles. He quickly took cover behind the thick railing of the bridge and Christina noticed how that had pissed him off. He quickly turned around and started shooting with a purpose. Shots were fired back at him. He took cover again before he started to shoot again. But then she started to run, and he couldn’t let her do that. He stopped.
“Она у меня. найди его[ii],” he spoke to the others as he proceeded to jump off the bridge and landed atop a car. He strutted in search of the woman.
The rest of the group proceeded to grab gear to climb down the bridge and try to take out the missing super soldier alongside The Princess.
Just as she was about to join the rest of the team, she stopped as her senses were going off behind her. One of the men that had yet to join the rest became the first victim from her side. The Black man that she had totally forgotten about took out the man and threw him off the bridge. Before he could grab the gun he had intended to steal, The Princess threw a knife at his hand making him drop it.
“I’ll admit, I totally forgot about you,” she said as she walked toward him while he walked with cautious steps, “I’m surprised you’ve made it this far.”
“You are a kid,” he said as he looked at her. She had to roll her eyes at that.
“What gave it away? The voice?” But before he could reply or do anything, she had grabbed her batons and connected them.
She ran and jumped atop of a car to then try to impale the man with her baton so she could go and help the rest before Captain America killed them all.
The man managed to jump aside before he could get hit. He picked up the gun from the floor and aimed it at her. He hesitated which was enough for her to grab her own gun and shoot at him. He ducked and took cover, this time shooting at where she had been standing. But to his surprise, she wasn’t there but next to him. She threw a kick to his side sending him a couple of feet away and making him hit a car.
“Dammit,” he cursed as he tried to get up. She walked toward him and grabbed him by the shirt and before she could throw him off the bridge he threw himself forward knocking her off her feet. She fell hard and her goggles got knocked off.
She got up and turned as he was about to punch her square on the face, but she ducked every punch he threw until she saw an opening to hit back. But he ducked as well, only a few punches made it to his face and one to his gut. She had him in a headlock but before she could snap his neck, a knife went right through her shoulder.
“Fucker!” She let go of him and glanced at the offending object that was buried to the hilt. She pulled it out as she glanced at the man. With an angry growl, she ran toward him and pushed him against a car but as he tried to push her off, his fingers dug on her injury which made her lose balance. With that, he pushed her back. She fell off the bridge.
The man ran to see what had happened to the girl, but when he glanced down, he didn’t see her on the floor. She wasn’t there.
Christina limped toward a wrecked car. She hadn’t expected to be thrown off the bridge which made her land wrong which caused her to sprain her right ankle. She wasn’t sure what hurt more, her ankle or her bleeding shoulder. She knew she was going to be fine, but she hated that she felt useless. She couldn’t take the man out even when she had double the strength of the average person. She leaned against the car and waited for the shooting to stop, she needed to find the asset. She knew he was probably fine, but trying to find him gave her an excuse to do something.
She followed the voices of the scared civilians and she noticed how the majority of them were running from a particular street, so she just went toward where they were trying to leave. Some of the civilians that were running would glance her way and freaked, even more, when they noticed the combat gear she had on. She heard an explosion coming from her left and immediately knew that must have been the asset. As she partially limped toward where the commotion was happening but just as she did a blur ran past her.
“Shit,” she cursed as she tried to follow the speeding man.
The asset was about ready to shoot the hiding woman when he noticed the man with the shield running toward him. As he approached him, he went for a punch with his metal arm just to be blocked by the shield making it ring, almost resembling a church bell. He pushed it aside before throwing a kick making himself land back on top of the roof of the car he had been standing in. He sat right up and started shooting but the blond man covered himself completely behind the shield. The asset rolled over and grabbed another one of his guns but as he did, the man started to seek cover but as he did, his shield covered the incoming bullets. The asset kept on shooting but soon his gun ran out of bullets and the blond man took the opportunity to kick the gun out of his hand, but the asset took out another gun and started to shoot once again. The man soon found a chance to throw a punch as he tried to knock the asset with his shield, but the asset stopped it with his metal arm throwing some punches as well. He grabbed the shield trying to get rid of it, but the man turned with the shield as the asset turned it but this time the asset managed to get the shield. He used it against him and pushed him far enough to allow him to hit him on the chest.
They stood afar for a second, glaring at each other before the blond man got up and ran toward the asset, thus the asset proceeded to throw the shield with force making it impossible for the other man to grab it which made it end up stuck on a van’s back door. Still, the man ran toward the asset but to his surprise, the brunet man took out a pocketknife. They went for hand-to-hand combat, and both as skilled as they were, neither managed to get much out of it than dogging punches and stab wounds. But then the blond threw a punch and mixed it with a kick that sent the brunet back making him hit a car. Then the man went for a knee kick right on the chest, making sure the asset wouldn’t get away, but he dodged the punch and tried to send the man to the floor, but he instead flipped him over. Practically annoyed now, the asset grabbed the man by the neck and pushed him hard enough that it sent the man over the other side of the car. The asset jumped on the car’s hood and jumped again as he tried to, possibly, kill him with one forceful punch square on the face but he moved making his metal fist land on the hard ground. He quickly got up and pulled out another one of his knives but, again, more dogging and this time he managed to pin the man against the van and as the blond evaded the knife, the asset pushed hard making the knife bury itself into the van as he dragged it. The man ducked down and took the opening to grab the metal-armed man and throw him over his shoulder. He quickly got up and grabbed his shield as the other man tried to stab him again. They went like that until the blond man had managed to insert a side of his shield into one of the man’s metal arm’s ridges. He now had the upper hand as he hit the man with his shield. He grabbed him by the face with all his strength and threw him off over his shoulder sending him flying to the ground.
Christina had managed to lean against a car as she saw the asset try to fight Captain America and she swore as he was practically fighting just as skilled as the asset. She didn’t intervene in the fight, too distracted seeing if the asset would kill his target in any second but at the pit of her stomach she knew something was about to happen, but she wasn’t sure what.
She groaned when she saw the Captain’s shield insert itself in the asset’s metallic shoulder and then send him flying back to the ground making the man’s face mask come off. The asset’s identity was supposed to be a secret, but he was a man out of time that only certain people knew about, Christina knew enough to know his name had once been James Barnes. And if the number of times that the man had let fragments of his memory out of his mouth had served her in any way, Christina knew the fact that Steve Rogers had just taken off the only thing protecting the asset’s identity which was a problem.
The asset got up from his position and Christina was not far behind him as she appeared from his left. She looked at his annoyed face before he turned toward the man behind him. Christina swore the man’s face paled making his light skin lighter.
“Bucky?” said the blond man almost in a breathless whisper.
Christina looked at the brunet and there she saw an expression she was too familiar with, his confusion and hesitation. But it didn’t last long before he was pointing his gun at his target.
“Who the hell is Bucky?”
As he went to shoot him, Christina ducked when she turned to see the same man that had thrown her off the bridge fly down and kick the asset to the floor. Christina hurried to his side just as he got up and aimed his gun back at the man but then a grenade was shot by the forgotten second target. Christina grabbed the asset’s flesh hand and pulled him away just as the grenade went off.
They disappeared from view just as the sirens of the cars were heard approaching the scene. Neither of them waited to see what happened next as they waited for Rumlow to give them the clear and get in a car to head back to base. The sounds of people shouting were drowned by the man next to her.
“у тебя идет кровь.[iii]” His unusual soft gaze was on her wounded shoulder. She removed her face mask and looked at him.
“Со мной все будет в порядке, рука,[iv]” she responded with a soft smile. He looked at her for a second before his eyes went back to where the voices were dying out and steps could be heard.
“крошечный[v]…” he whispered in a tone that made Christina’s heart clench.
“shh, ничего не говори.[vi]” Christina shook her head as Rumlow’s voice interrupted anything else from being said.
“You two are clear. But before we get to base we might have to do a little stop,” he said with a sinister smile as he walked her and the asset toward the awaiting vehicle.
