I applied for a job with my county (a subdivision of my state that is larger than a city), specifically being the person to answer emergency calls and dispatch the correct people/resources to help. Literally everyone who knows me that I mentioned this too goes, "Oh! You'd be good at that!" or some variation thereof.

I applied in the middle of December. I was told I'd be contacted in January about a test I'd have to take. It's not January anymore, so I emailed someone.

I got back an unsigned email that said they "formally apologize", but I somehow wasn't on the list of qualified candidates and that I'll be contacted for the next test. There is no indication on this email of when that will be. I responded, asking if there were even openings any more, and if so, when will the next testing be. (I note unsigned because this makes the apology more useless since I can't even point to a person that thinks I've been done wrong. I just get a faceless hr department.)

The answer this time was that those people are always in demand (that doesn't say good things about retention...) and that they guess the next test will be "sometime in the spring possibly sometime in May." They stress that this is a guess.

So if I want to work this job, after waiting 2 months, I need to wait probably another 5 months, or however long, nobody knows.

I wrote to my county council person, because either they only want to hire people who don't need to work, or they want people who consider their current jobs disposable.

Is it just me, or is this ridiculous? I understand government bureaucracy, but come on. Ancient China has these kinds of tests, and even they kept them on a predictable schedule! So, it was less hassle to get a government job in **Ancient China** than in the modern US.

This shouldn't surprise me, but the modern world manages to disappoint me in new ways all the time.

But nobody wants to work any more, right?

i used to live in illinois. there are several joined cities there. twin cities. the two i knew of were joined to Japanese cities.

it was a very real heartfelt thing. there were big plaques and markers.

there was a very real warmth and human connection that was uplifting.

You know....like, actuelly, You guessed it- Love.

i was just thinking wouldn't be great if towns and cities had city council membres and community membres bring proposals for this, but for Iranian cities.

i realise it might be easier after the revolution is done. but wouldn't it be expressing more Love and faith and hope if these things were put into the discussion and planning phase now?

most of what you said makes sense, but man the “why can’t we spend our money” trope is getting old

like, come on. do you want the league to just let the club spend billions because they can? PSR is to stop unfair spending, just because your club is owned by the Saudi Arabian PIF doesn’t mean you should be able to throw their blood money at any players you want. that would be unfair and wrong.
