Ferns - The Mundane and Magical 101

Working with my local land more has taught me to source local plants and connect with them. By properly taking care of it and working the land. That also means connecting with local plant spirits.

The Fern is one of those species of plants. This wonderful herb is abundant, protective and hold much wisdom for they are very old. With some dating back to 360 million years (or so they say). It is known some species can live up to a hundred years.

They are full of wisdom, you might just learn something from them if you actively work with them as a spirit.

Parts used: For species of Fern it varies

Planet: Mercury

Element: Air

CAUTIONS: ALWAYS check with your local herbalist and doctor before consuming any medicinal medicine as they will be able to direct you on proper dosages. Some medications can also interact and so can some conditions with certain herbs.

IMPORTANT: Some Ferns are harmful (like the Pteridium genus aka Bracken Fern) to the airways and can let off spores that can harm or cause death in immunocompromised people. Always be wary of Fern species around pets as well. Source and research responsibly.

Uses in Herbalism and Healing:

Certain Fern species are used to treat different ailments. Ex. Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis) used for arthritis while Maidenhair Speenwort (Asplenium tricomanes) is used for coughs.

Always check which fern species is used as some can counteract and aren't always used for the same ailment.

On a fun note, Fiddlehead Ferns are used from a culinary standpoint and are quite delicious when prepared correctly.

Uses in Magic:

When placed in the home, it is said to hold protective properties, and when planted at the doorstep.

Dried Fern, when burned, carries exorcism properties.

Some folklore speaks that when Fern is burned outside, it causes rainfall.

When carried or worn, Fern has the power to guide to treasure.

Some Celtic and Irish legends speak of Ferns being used in from healing to magic.

A Slavic folk tale speaks of a flower on a fern that blooms for a very short time on the eve of the summer solstice. It is said it brings fortune to the person who finds it. In some tales, it allows humans to understand animals talking. It is guarded by malevolent entities. Though the one who succeeds in gathering it can receive earthly riches, that attainment has always brought unlucky energy to the poor soul, so some leave it alone.

Laerte Coutinho, born in São Paulo in 1951, is a Brazilian cartoonist considered one of the country's most important artists in the field.

Throughout the last fifty years, she has built an outstanding career, with her comic strips being published in several newspapers and later collected in books. She has also been involved in the production of TV series and movies, has founded a communication consultancy for unions, and so on. In 2008, she came out as trans woman at 57 years old.

A bank customer who fatally pushed an 82-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease to the ground in a queue row has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Courtney Richman, 26, pushed Myra Coutinho-Lopez to the floor of Lloyds Bank in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, in December 2021 after growing impatient in the queue behind the pensioner.

At Luton Crown Court, Richman was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment for manslaughter, suspended for 21 months.

Passing sentence, Judge Michael Simon was critical of Lloyds staff for failing to diffuse the situation and called on banks to ensure all staff have dementia awareness training.

The court heard Mrs Coutinho-Lopez had forgotten she had withdrawn money three days earlier and caused a long queue to develop as she had an argument with a cashier.

On the day in question, Richman, who was in the queue, was heard to say: “Hurry up - people don’t have all day.” An argument then took place and in CCTV shown to the jury Mrs Coutinho-Lopez swung her handbag at Richman and the young woman then pushed her. Prosecutor Martin Mulgrew said Richman had shown “a catastrophic loss of temper”. Mrs Coutinho-Lopez died on 16 December 2021, 10 days after the incident.

Richman denied manslaughter but was found guilty at Luton Crown Court in February.

Following the hearing, Mrs Coutinho-Lopez's daughter Michelle Lopez said that she and her family had been left "trapped in an emotional prison".

"It was a consequence of Courtney Richman's heinous and vicious behaviour," she added.

Ms Lopez criticised the "apathy and absence of empathy" from Lloyds Bank staff.

She also said that Richman had "revelled in her freedom" since that day.

Judge Michael Simon said Mrs Coutinho-Lopez was a well-known customer and the bank were aware that she suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

He said "a lack of understanding" from bank staff meant the confrontation between Mrs Coutinho-Lopez and the bank teller showed no sign of resolution after 20 to 30 minutes and the situation was allowed to escalate.

The judge added: "The court calls on the banking sector as a whole to ensure that all customer-facing staff are provided with dementia awareness training, which includes recognised strategies for interacting with customers who experience such difficulties and for defusing conflict.

"It is not possible to be sure that if this had been in place in December 2021 that the events leading to the death of Mrs Coutinho-Lopez would not have happened, but on the evidence before this court it is highly likely that the incident would not have ended in tragedy as it did."

Richman was also given a rehabilitation requirement lasting between 15 and 25 days and was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

In mitigation, Claire Davies KC said Richman had had lost custody of her two children as a result of her conviction.

Det Supt Rob Hall, head of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “This has been a harrowing ordeal for Myra’s family and our thoughts remain with them at what continues to be a difficult time.”

Grizione masterlist

okay so, it’s a thing now, after like two weeks of focusing on this specific ship I need to write down some of my thoughts and share some pics that are very worthy (i am working on a next fic as well, hehehe. then I promise I will do something about Licha and Antony, because they deserve it)

1. I have a thing for coach/player pairings. All time, every time.

Because look, not only does that mean the obvious power (im)balance, it also brings extra spiciness. One will be wearing suit, the other his sweaty match-worn kit. One will say something in the media or in the dressing room, the other will have to work with that. The heartbreak of leaving/being sacked. Ah. That’s some proper good stuff.

2. Simeone is a very intense guy, he looks like he did four lines before every match, and we all know how passionate he is about his team. That’s great. We love to see that. 

And he does this * holding of his player’s head very close to his * , which is very hot, if you ask me. Also, the players would jump into a fire pit for him. Lovely.

3. Antoine had a tough time recently. He used to be the starboy, the “petit chouchou”, the pretty talented poster boy, whose dreams came true in 2018. No wonder Cholo adored him so much. He’s also kinda small, so easy to pick up, as you can see.

4. The whole “going to Barca just to come back” thing adds extra spiciness. Imagine if Coutinho came back to Liverpool, hehe, my Kloppinho-loving heart would melt. Well, this arch adds the extra angst, issues, and drama into the relationship.

5. There’s so much to work with currently. Is Cholo supportive? Is he like “You’re in my team now, so you will do what I say”? Or is he like “Fuck those Barca c*nts, you will shine again”? Does he and Antoine laugh about the 30 mins Grizi gets to play? Does Antoine moan about the lack of playing time only to be told to shut up and think back to the reason why they have to do this? (I don’t doubt Simeone still loves him, hehe, but I can see him bringing up the fact that Antoine left - and as much as Simeone loves Antoine, he probably loves Atleti more? Ah, the angst.)

6. The fact that Simeone’s three sons are also footballers, age-wise kinda close to Griezmann, and they’ve met each other/know each other (also G’s and S’s wives know each other) + one of Simeone’s sons wore a shirt with “Griezmann” when supporting the team in their Europa league run adds extra ideas in my head (in case of inclusing the families in the stories)

Update On This Bitch Ass MF

Alright, my brain is short circuiting, and I'm just screaming into the void rn so, update ahead, enter if you dare (update under cut cause it's a little liggity long)

So, you didn't know unless you were there during the "My computer didn't fucking work" era that started my big ol' hiatus, but I got a new computer (woo hoo! :D) and it was working perfectly. Emphasis on WAS. Turns out, living in the country, I'm too close to town to get to get rural wifi, which is fast as shit, and too far away to get town wifi, which is somehow even faster? Anyways, I knew of this problem when I moved into the house, but it's my family's homestead, I moved here when I was in highschool, yadiyadaya, no need for fast wifi just a couple years ago. HOWEVER! Now that I have a crazy good computer (I'm talking liquid cooled, built it myself, named it TheBeast) I need at least alright wifi, right? Well RECENTLY it's gotten WORSE! Somehow, it got worse than it already was! Which means, and keep in mind, I got petty enough to time it, but this delay in wifi has caused me to wait up to 14. WHOLE. MINUTES. Yes, you read that right: 1. 4. Obviously I'm not gonna just deal with that without, you know, being a little bitch. I have a new wifi provider that I'm going to be testing soon. Hopefully, cross your finger dear reader, I can stop waiting 14 minutes for my college work to load. Oh yeah, I got college stuff to do, specifically taking a creative class because I thought I was out of practice in writing. It's actually really helped! But, the topic, wifi, is that the new router should be here by Wednesday, and I should be able to test it out, maybe fix some errors and stuff that have been happening due to slow wifi.

So, wifi segment over. If you read this far, thanks. I really only made this because I'm frustrated af rn, so reading me type out my rage is something you didn't need to do, so thanks. BUT WAIT! THERE'S FUCKING MORE! (At least in the bad new segment, good news is at the very end, sorry!)

PAYDAY. 3. Hot topic right now, right? Well I had been tying to sign in for A FULL WEEK! SEVEN FUCKING DAYS! I did everything, like, legitimately everything, but caved at 4 days, and contacted the Nebula help line thing. Everyone was very nice, the costumer service was great, a tiny bit slow towards the end, but they had a good reason. I told them what was going on, they were very nice, accidently gave them the wrong Nebula Starbreeze account at first because I'm dyslexic as fuck, still very nice, much better than my conversation with like, the EA or Epic helplines (very long story), and eventually they got to the root of the problem. My problem was that it kept giving me a Nebula Data Configuration Error, every time I booted up the game. Tried everything, like I said earlier. They get to me 3 days after I told them all my special information and all the steps I took to try and troubleshoot on my own. You wanna know what they told me? Of course you do you've read this far. Let me preface this with the fact that I am just mad, and they were very polite about this, and the team is doing the best I can I'm absolutely sure, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SUCH A SPECIALIZED ERROR THEY NEEDED TO PATCH IT IN THE NEXT UPDATE! Now, I don't know if this was intentional, but they gave me the rough date for the update, but I don't know if it's the real big one everyone's waiting for, so I'm not going to tell you guys because I value their mysteriousness and don't want leak something that starbreeze was only telling me to let me know when to try and play the game again so that I can contact them if it didn't work. I don't know, it'd probably be super cool to be known as the user who knew when the update would come out, but it feels wrong to leak something like that if it is the correct date for the big update and stuff. So now I'm stuck, just listening to Gustavo Coutinho's fucking banner music for Payday 3 from youtube and not being able to watch the gameplay and stuff. And I heard there were cutscenes? CUTSCENES?! I am so excited to see those. WHEN I CAN PLAY THE GAME. (I feel like that one Fair Odd Parents meme omg)

Working on redesigning EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. That has ever left the recesses of my mind for an upcoming comic I'm gonna try and make, once the whole wifi situation is fixed. Working on the new chapter of The Golden Tempest (I almost posted this with it's "inside name" hehe, too bad you'll never know what the files are called), and working on From the Eyes of the Payday Gang, or at least trying to. I'm thinking of doing a grocery store worker at the grocery store the Payday gang all has to take turns going to the store but whole store knows that they're all like a family or some shit because they are all idiots and all use the same car because it's not in the fucking budget to get another car, so they have the escape van and the "family car" and that's it. Holy shit that was a weird lore tangent, but anyways, comic maybe coming, Payday related content definitely coming, some more surprises and goodies in the works, so expect this account to be much more active. Today is the first day off I've in I don't know how long, but a long time, and so just expect some text stuff from me, since my computer can't apparently handle doing anything on CSP because of the wifi situation.
