now go out and create something! you can do it!
[ID from alt text: Marker art of a snowshoe hare sitting down and looking at the viewer with text reading "everyone can make art! Yes, even you! You're more creative than you know!!" The background is plain white, and the artist's signature reads @ watercolourcritters. End ID.]

Picked this project back up again. It’s a teal and cream gingham (plaid), worsted weight, Tunisian crochet blanket that I started ages ago. For the non-crafters, worsted weight is a terrible choice for a blanket!! It takes so long!!! But it’s also very soft and smooth and satisfying.
If you’re up for it, reblog this and show me what you’re working on! Fibercrafts, paintings, art, fic. Whatever your comfort wip is, show me/tell me about it, let’s spread some positivity and creativity

I was watching Adam Savage and he gave a really self inspirational speech of basically go out and create.
That, yes, necessity is the mother of invention, but so is boredom.and curiousity and love.
And to go out and fuck with things and see what happens.
...
And that is the first time I have heard what was a positive "fuck around and find out."
And I think that's important.
Everytime I hear "fuck around and find out" it's a threat, a warning, a beware sign of consequences. And I understand why with the "crude" language but it shouldn't be just that.
That is how I approach my car, Duality. Every paint job I do. I fuck around and find out. I make mistakes and learn. How to tape better. To use this material instead. I learn about different spray tips and tricks.
When I do any art, I fuck around and find out. I learn how to blend colors, what inks work, what pencils I like more. What steps should come first or later.
When I write, I fuck around and find out. I learn new words or do research for things in my fictional words to see if this is possible. I learn how to better organize paragraphs, like now, that might better reach people.
I want to hopefully remind myself with this post to create some art inspired by positive "fuck around and find out" but also like Adam did for me, remind others, to go out and fuck around and find out and improve yourself from it.

I am trying as I grow older to realize that it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. That if I love something I create that’s what matters. Do not let the judgement of people who do NOT fucking matter stop you from living.
Friendly reminder that you should
Write that fic
Draw your OC
Redesign that blorbo
Plan that comic how you want
Create the content you want to see
Be cringe
Be free
The only thing that matters is you having fun! Not what others think!

okay but there is something disquieting about this urge to cast fan writers as altruists. they give us all this for free!! well, no.
they’re sharing
it’s a key difference in perception. fic isn’t given. it’s shared. it’s part of a fandom community— in which readers are also an integral part.
it’s probably inevitable mission creep from the increasingly transactional nature of the internet and fandom-as-consumerism, which was always gonna happen after corps worked out how much bank there is to make from those weirdo fan people
but like. fandom is sharing. i think we’ve lost that somewhere.
