a lot of times what makes oc designs work is the variety of hues and the stuff. even ocs that you'd describe as 'mostly brown' are often different shades of yellow for transitioning to white, some true browns and then dark desaturated reds for the 'dark browns' that mostly just reads to us as the same range of colors at first

and i say all this bc its so hard to make something out of daron's monochrome palette, i feel like. i did try other hues and such but i just dont personally like it. then it all boils down to contrast and my perfectionist symmetrical ass cant come up with anything better than stripes it seems. its so tiring im like a dog running in circles around a tree chasing my leash or whatever. when am i gonna finally make the perfect fursona

Walking on the Wild Side

Okay, not really. But I am on the hunt for the childlike creativity I used to be delighted with. As I grown wiser (ha!) and more responsible, the more I have left the awe and joy behind. Perhaps I locked the otter deep in a closet in my mind. Perhaps that is better because you only have to search the labyrinth to find the key and the door; backtracking the many roads I’ve journeyed could take forever. 

I want this site to be a site when I can journal - share the highs and the lows without judgment. I want it to be a place where I can wax and wane philosophically ... again, without judgment. I need a place where I can create and be silly, ridiculous, and totally mad. 

So, allow me to put my beliefs out there ... so those of you who don’t agree or don’t honestly believe in acceptance can move on.

1. I’m a Christian. I totally believe in God the father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. I am not holier than thou. I make mistakes (HUGE ones even). If I’m totally honest - I sin daily.

2. I am not a feminist. I believe that men and women are created differently and are meant to complement one another. BTW - in the professional world, only women have put me down and held me back.

3. I’m not sure I believe in global warming as much as I believe the world goes through seasons and our seasons are changing. Oddly, I was quite pleased to find the northern First Nations people of Alaska and Canada agree.

4. I am Alaska Native ... and also have Texas ancestors. It makes me a mutt. So while I am not pure bred, this awesome blend tends to give me some great storytelling abilities.

5. I believe the world is way more sensitive - and narcissistic. If I say my house is a mess and I need to clean it; I’m not insinuating you have the same problem. Today I find people like to make everything about them - and it is not.

6. I’m a mother of four. I believe in responsibility and accountability. Honestly, just because you don’t want to do something doesn’t mean you don’t have to do it. 

7. I’m broken. I’ve come to the conclusion that all people are broken in some shape or fashion, and we need to remember that when dealing with them. 

This is a drop in the bucket. A beginning. An opportunity to begin to remember how to write. How to put words together. How to share. I’ll probably mess up a lot as I walk this journey, but those mistakes will help me to learn and I will, hopefully, become a better person and a better writer because of them.

Looking forward to more.

I’ve never mixed refried beans quite the same as when I did slouching at that round wooden table. Back when you still remembered.

You felt soft like ice and smelled of warm lilac that lived in a glass vase on a sandy nightstand. Now, your mind spins like a steel door reflecting those stars your mind shoots out when you stand too fast. But your body is still that pillow I hold to my chest at night. How could I have known that we would never smash the almonds with a rolling pin, your fragile fingers thick with old age and gripping the maple wood with white knuckles?

I still remember that immaculate carpet and my desk leaning against the wall. You had your closet of black and grey sweaters and slacks folded over hangers, still in the dim light.
