Wearing a helmet as an adult always makes me feel kind of silly, but I’ve had a concussion before and I absolutely do not want a repeat experience lol I’ve recently taken up roller skating and I saw this lovely tattoo design and wanted to do my own take to spice up my helmet and make me feel excited to wear it instead of vaguely embarrassed.
The plants here are mistletoe (overcoming hardship, resilience, understanding) and azaleas (taking care of yourself & others, patience) with one of my favourite Astarion quotes (obviously).
I feel like I have to put something on the other side now to balance it out, but I have no idea what! Suggestions are totally welcome.
Some details below the cut for anyone interested on how I made it so you can make your own fun helmet!
I drew out a mock up in procreate so I could plan for the space and get an idea of scale.
I then vectorized some of it (I should have done all of it but didn’t want to redraw all the plants again cause I’m lazy lol) in affinity designer. Exported those layers into PNGs/SVGs to cut out with my cricut! The decal is cut out of adhesive vinyl, matte white and some metallic pink for ✨pzazz✨ What followed was several hours and several attempts at crafting BS wherein I kept telling myself “I’m never doing this again” all while knowing that that was almost certainly a lie.
literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong there may have been some tears at one point
ANYWAY if you’ve read this far thanks for tuning into unscheduled & unsolicited craft hour with Sara ❤️
And then the other set! Both of these were nightmares to typeset in their own way, but my memory did not prepare me for the sheer onslaught of diacritics in Lord of the Rings. My first reality check in this project, but not my last! The first time I zoomed in on my high res edoras reference (after finishing my pencil sketch) was another notable Oh No moment 😂 And then satisfying my own standards for a fabric that matched the deep blue leather and endpapers but still had the right vibes was unexpectedly difficult (until I tripped across northcott's 'art of marbling' fabric line), but I think it was so worth it for the end result!
