Day 1 of 100 Days of Code
It was a couple of months ago that a family member recommended that I tried coding and after watching a couple of videos and competing lecture and problem set 0 for CS50x, I fell in love.
It has been a bit of a struggle these past few months, I have felt a bit overwhelmed and intimidated. I stopped taking CS50 and tried to go on my own path. I started to learn python because it's what people recommended and overall my learning experience has felt a bit... unstructured. Like yes, I know the syntax of python but I skipped over the basics and now I don't know how to make anything with it.
During october I had kinda been debating on whether or not I should start again with CS50X, but I felt bit intimidated having to learn a new and lower level language, especially after pouring hours and breaking my head trying to understand python.
I don't know who said this or if this was a saying I came up with after reading hundreds of motivational posts but it kinda goes, "If you aren't uncomfortable, then your staginate."
To me learning C feels like a kick in the face, like I wasted all my time learning python just to have to admit defeat and learn, what I could have learned, months ago if I hadn't been so prideful.
But, looking back at the past few months, I haven't made much progress on my own. I'm stagnate. And the more I let my pride get the best of me the more I'm going to fall behind on my goals.
So, I guess after some fighting with myself I decided to continue with CS50x. And for the next 100 days I'm going to be working towards completing it, as well as CS50 Game Development if time permits.

I just want to share the thing I did :
I'm just happy about it, so here's my assignment for my course CS50X : make a little program on Scratch. I did that in 4h and I'm pretty pretty happy about my horses terrorizing the forest x')
(the code is ugly, I know, I'm not into the logic of using boxes and not real code, I did my best and eh, I only used 4h to do that, so it will be ugly and I'm okay with that)

I may not be an aesthetically pleasing studyblr (yet?), but I finished my first CS50x lecture with some notes, and I took a photo of it, and I guess that's enough for now.
I can definitely understand now why so many people advise starting with Harvard's CS50x course instead of jumping straight into Free Code Camp or something, especially if you have zero prior coding experience as I did. Some of it I already knew, but it was nice to go back to the very beginning. I've started brainstorming some ideas for my own Scratch project - an interactive story about a ghost in search of a snack. I'm looking forward to the rest of the class!

today (and possibly for the next several days or weeks or idk, what is time anymore lol) i imagine i am a young woman in the 19th century studying for her degree by correspondence, far away from uni, due to illness... for once, romanticizing this way doesn't feel difficult because it's not that far off from my current reality! 😅🤧
during this time, i need to:
catch up on and get ahead in my schoolwork (please, i wanna get to the interesting part already 😭)
catch up on music theory (i was supposed to get through Ch 1A-3 in one week bc it's at least half review but i'm still on 1B! 🥲)
catch up on organic chemistry (i have not touched this at all, so i'm an entire week behind schedule. am i scared? heh. yes. but that's not gonna stop meee 🐵)
review cs50x content (i don't remember much of anything and i haven't done any coding at all since i finished the course in 2023 🙈🙈🙈)
it seems that human -> monkey as human gets increasingly unhinged and overwhelmed haha 🙈 it's okay it's okay, we break it down until it's bite sized 🍰 i might reblog with the breakdown for accountability bc i absolutely do not feel like accounting for myself rn 😅

Just found that for some reasons, my images where not importing correctly in my Obsidian, so I redid a lot of insertion of them. Pff.
It also took me 2h to make my notes of the live of this morning readable. The professor was going everywhere and nowhere at the same time. That was ... something. And that was an important basics on how to finance a business in France, so I needed the note to be readable and easy to search in the future. I did my best.
Also needed to shower my cats because of fleas. Not fun for anyone of us, but at least all the house AND the cats are clean. There was so much fleas feces on our older cat ... They were both treated last month, so that's odd. But maybe we were not diligent enough with all the things in the house. They should feel better now.

Hi! You mentioned there are online tutorials/sites for learning Comp Sci and OSINT - any recommendations? Thanks!
Hi! You got lucky that today is the day I check my inbox lol. So. For comp-sci: - CS50X from Harvard is a public avaiable course on youtube I'd 100% recommend. These are the undedited (so far) lectures of 2024: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LPJfIKxwWc&list=PLhQjrBD2T381WAHyx1pq-sBfykqMBI7V4&ab_channel=CS50
This gives you all the basics you need to understand how coding and pcs in general works. (I had comp sci in my university course)
- Freecodecamp is a website full of FREE tutorials on several programming language. Advice: learn python. You will understand later on.
- The rest really depends on what you actually want to learn and why - each programming language has its own purpose and application. OSINT: -There is this full course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwA6MmbeGNo&t=205s&ab_channel=TheCyberMentor (But you can find more on youtube.) - Bellingcat's resources: https://www.bellingcat.com/category/resources/ -IntelTecniques: https://inteltechniques.com/ - Osint Newesletter: https://osintnewsletter.com/
But here is the catcher: if you plan to do osint it heavily depends on where you live. I'm in Europe, so it means I'm under GDPR, therefore I must abid to stricter regulations than a US OSINT analyst. A lot of data that might be considered public domain in the US(big one: conviction records) are not in europe, and you won't be able to access it unless you are a registered private investigator at least (but in my case it's rare that I go after people, that's not a part of any task I might encounter at work). Not only that, but a lot of the avaiable tools are designed to work only with specific countries in mind for various reasons and there is a big bias on US-based investigations. If youre' not in the US I recommend you reach out to your local OSINT or cybersecurity professionals association, they usually have resources and specific information, a lot of times for free. Also keep in mind: OSINT has a lot of different applications and it depends on what you're doing with it. Journalists might work more with satellites and images (a thing I know nothing about), debunkers will definitely understand social media more, if you do business intelligence you will look more at news sites, trademarks and deposits and so on to reach your conclusion. You did your course... Now what? I recommend getting on CTFs, like tracelabs that I've linked above, but there many of them (osint dojo for example) or Kase Scenarios. These are safe environments to practice on (except for tracelabs since it deal with actual cases of missing people and it can lead to... not so good leads, allow me to leave it there) You should also understand how intelligence (as the discipline) works. There are several resources, but my favourite is definitely Psychology of Intelligence Analysis. It's a series of declassified training documents from CIA analyst Richard Bauer, that was based on Daniel Kahneman (yes, the "thinking fast and slow" author, and I also do recommend this book) research on euristics. Intelligence is fundamental because OSINT might be helpful to gather the data, but the data then needs to be processed, analysed and you also need to get a conclusion from that analysis. Studying intelligence will help you avoid a lot of pitfalls that happens when you do an investigation, such as not understanding when you know enough, if you're being a victim of your own bias, if you're missing something or if you're going with the right approach. But I have to admit that the best of training I've received so far is from my local OSINT association because I've been able to train with people that work(ed) in the military, get their advice and have a deep understand of the work itself (and the reason why I have decided to actually make cyber threat intelligence my job, even if I work for a private company and I have no interest in working for the government). And yes ethics is a big thing for the OSINT community.
I hope this is helpful enough!

so stressed out about having to find a thesis topic and having misinterpreted someone and having replied too violently, so I'm procrastinating by watching CS50x 2024 week 3even tho I forgot most of C since I didn't do any CS50x in weeks. I'm gonna be alright.
#I had planned to take a break from uni for a year but missed the window to apply for the break#so now I have to start my master's#and I'm not too happy about it#it's gonna be ok#but hhhh I wish I'd had my break first#thinking there

This is hsvh-hp. Can’t ask from my sideblog so EXCUSE THE ANON. Anyway, tell me all about drapple :)
WIP ask game
It was a crack treated seriously concept about Draco losing his mind in 6th year. It would start as using the apple to "rubber duck debug" the cabinet (a method of debugging code by forcing yourself to explain it to an inanimate object, a.k.a. the only piece of information I've retained from taking CS50x), and devolve into getting attached to the apple.
The biggest hurdle stopping me from writing it is having no idea how vanishing cabinets work or how one would go about fixing them because the magic in HP is just vibes (and maybe I could simply make it "just vibes" too, but I'd also have to figure out how to do that).
rubber duck throw (despair) ? (persevere) fixes it tower night powerful preservation spells came across in research for both cabinet and murder (did they have dark arts books - yes in the RS and you need a note from a teacher i.e. sneep the DADA teacher yasss) optimism when you come up with a new idea thinking it's ok it might actually work like gives you fresh wind, until you actually start trying it and it fails and the stress comes back

Day 2 of 100 Days of Code
I'm steadily making progress in learning C. Transitioning from Python hasn't been too challenging since I already have some Python knowledge. My main struggle has been with the syntax, particularly remembering to include semicolons.
I'm using CS50 codespace for these first few lessons they are using a library that I've had difficulty installing on VSCode. I don't know if anyone else has been having problems with the new codespaces but I have been having some library and terminal issues with it. Fortunately, a couple of months ago, I set up an Codespace, which is still working. I just need to remember not to update it.
Also, Thank you to everyone who showed me so much love on my previous post. Your support means a lot to me. When I signed up for Tumblr, my intention was mainly to have a space to document my progress, expecting my posts to go unnoticed. However, you all have pleasantly proven me wrong in the best way possible. <3

Sunday: Woop woop ! This week I was so productive ! I did so much things from my to-do list and even had the spoons to do other things ! The conference yesterday was a success, people liked my research, we had good conversation/questions/sharing of our experiences. And taking 5hours out of my night to make my 30slides funny and with a good design was so worth it: firstly I had so much fun making them and people liked it very much, it made a lot of laughing.

So, today i was like "i gotta study programming because that would make Athena proud!" Just because i needed some extra external motivation to study. Also before i started i listened on YouTube some hymns in her honor.
And i was able to do 2/4 cs50x assignments today! Like, i'm so happy! Thank you Lady Athena, i will make you proud!
(Also does anyone know what Athena likes as devotional acts/offerings? i want to thank her for her help but idk how lol)

Hello, world!
Hi
I'm Genny (pronounced like Jenny). I am very early in my journey of learning code. I started CS50x and am currently working through the week 1 lecture and practising to code alongside.
About me: I have a Graphic Design degree, I currently work in education, with SEND students, I am a bit of a nerd, I used to be in a lot of fandoms, when I was a teenager, back in the good ol' Tumblr days, I have a cat
I am sure I will write more in due time...
