There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!
We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!
This post may be updated as time goes on as new services enter the hosting arena, or other important updates come to light.
Questions:
💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.
📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!
🕵️♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.
Web Host List
Neocities
Basic plan pricing: Free or $5/month. Free plan has more restrictions (1 GB space, no custom domain, and slower bandwidth, among other things)
Notes: Neocities does not have database support for paid or free accounts, and most comic CMS solutions require this (ComicCtrl, Grawlix, Wordpress). You will need to work with HTML/CSS files directly to make a website and post each page.
Hostinger
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the 1st year. Free SSL Certifications. Weekly backups.
KnownHost
Basic plan pricing: $8.95/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free DDOS protection. Free SSL Certifications.
InMotion Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $12.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certifications, free domain names for 1 and 3 year plans. 24/7 live customer service and 90-day money-back guarantee. Inmotion also advertises eco-friendly policies: We are the first-ever Green Data Center in Los Angeles. We cut cooling costs by nearly 70 percent and reduce our carbon output by more than 2,000 tons per year.
Reviews:
👍“I can't remember it ever going down.”
👍“InMotion has a pretty extensive library full of various guides on setting up and managing websites, servers, domains, etc. Customer service is also fairly quick on responding to inquiries.” 👎“I wish it was a bit faster with loading pages.”
Ionos Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $8/month or $6/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2 and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the first year, free SSL Certification, Daily backup and recovery is included. Site Scan and Repair is free for the first 30 days and then is $6/month.
Reviews:
👍“Very fast and simple” 👎“Customer service is mediocre and I can't upload large files”
Bluehost
Basic plan pricing: $15.99/month or $4.95/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain and SSL certificates (for first year only). 24/7 Customer Service. Built to handle higher traffic websites. Although they specialize in Wordpress websites and provide updates automatically, that's almost a bad thing for webcomic plugins because they will often break your site. Their cloud hosting services are currently in early access with not much additional information available.
Reviews:
👎"The fees keep going up. Like I could drop $100 to cover a whole year, but now I'm paying nearly $100 for just three months. It's really upsetting."
👎"I have previously used Bluehost’s Wordpress hosting service and have had negative experiences with the service, so please consider with a grain of salt. I can confirm at least that their 24/7 customer service was great, although needed FAR too often."
Dreamhost
Basic plan pricing: $7.99/month or $5.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certificates, 24/7 support with all plans, 97-day moneyback guarantee. Not recommended for ComicCtrl CMS
Reviews:
👍“They've automatically patched 2 security holes I created/allowed by mistake.” 👍“Prices are very reasonable” 👎 “back end kind of annoying to use” 👎 “wordpress has some issues” 👎 “it's not as customizable as some might want“
GoDaddy
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free 24/7 Customer service with all plans, Free SSL Certificates for 1 year, free domain and site migration.
Reviews:
👍Reasonable intro prices for their Economy hosting, which has 25GB of storage 👍Migrated email hosting service from cPanel to Microsoft Office, which has greater support but may not be useful for most webcomic creators. 👎 Many site issues and then being upsold during customer service attempts. 👎 Server quality found lacking in reviews 👎 Marketing scandals in the past with a reputation for making ads in poor taste. Have been attempting to clean up that image in recent years. 👎 “GoDaddy is the McDonald's of web hosting. Maybe the Wal-Mart of hosting would be better. If your website was an object you would need a shelf to put it on. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a shelf. It's not great. It's not fancy. It can only hold that one thing. And if we're being honest - if the shelf broke and your website died it wouldn't be the end of the world. The issue comes when you don't realize GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of hosting. You go and try to do things you could do with a quality shelf. Like, move it. Or add more things to it.” MyWorkAccountThisIs on Reddit*
Things to consider for any host:
💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.
💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.
Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.
🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!
Want to share your experience?
Feel free to contribute your hosting pros, cons, and quirks on our survey! We will be updating our list periodically with your feedback!

All the cool kids use ComicFury 😘
Hey y'all! If you love independent comic sites and have a few extra dollars in your pocket, please consider supporting ComicFury, the owner Kyo has been running it for nearly twenty years and it's one of the only comic hosting platforms left that's entirely independent and reminiscent of the 'old school' days that I know y'all feel nostalgic over.
(kyo's sense of humor is truly unmatched lmao)
Here are some of the other great features it offers:
Message board forums! It's a gift from the mid-2000's era gods!
Entirely free-to-use HTML and CSS editing! You can use the provided templates, or go wild and customize the site entirely to your liking! There's also a built-in site editor for people like me who want more control over their site design but don't have the patience to learn HTML/CSS ;0
In-depth site analytics that allow you to track and moderate comments, monitor your comic's performance per week, and let you see how many visitors you get. You can also set up Google Analytics on your site if you want that extra touch of data, without any bullshit from the platform. Shit, the site doesn't come with ads, but you can run ads on your site. The site owners don't ask questions, they don't take a cut. Pair your site with ComicAd and you'll be as cool as a crocodile alligator !
RSS feeds! They're like Youtube subscriptions for millennials and Gen X'ers!
NSFW comics are allowed, let the "female presenting nipples" run free! (just tag and content rate them properly!)
Tagging. Tagging. Remember that? The basic feature that every comic site has except for the alleged "#1 webcomic site"? The independent comic site that still looks the same as it did 10 years ago has that. Which you'd assume isn't that big a deal, but isn't it weird that Webtoons doesn't?
Blog posts. 'Nuff said.
AI-made comics are strictly prohibited. This also means you don't have to worry about the site owners sneaking in AI comics or installing AI scrapers (cough cough)
Did I mention that the hosting includes actual hosting? Meaning for only the cost of the domain you can change your URL to whatever site name you want. No extra cost for hosting because it's just a URL redirect. No stupid "pro plan" or "gold tier" subscription necessary, every feature of the site is free to use for all. If this were a sponsored Pornhub ad, this is the part where I'd say "no credit card, no bullshit".
Don't believe me? Alright, look at my creator backend (feat stats on my old ass 2014 comic, I ain't got anything to hide LOL)
TRANSCRIPTS! CHAPTER ORGANIZATION! MASS PAGE UPLOADING! MULTIPLE CREATOR SUPPORT! FULL HTML AND CSS SUPPORT! SIMPLIFIED EDITORS! ACTUAL STATISTICS THAT GIVE YOU WEEKLY BREAKDOWNS! THE POWER OF CHOICE!!
So yeah! You have zero reasons to not use and support ComicFury! It being "smaller" than Webtoons shouldn't stop you! Regain your independence, support smaller platforms, and maybe you'll even find that 'tight-knit community' that we all miss from the days of old! They're out there, you just gotta be willing to use them! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡
#comicfury#support small platforms#webcomic platforms#webcomic advice#please reblog#also i'm posting my original work over there so if you want pure unhinged weeb puff that's where you can find it LOL#and no this isn't a 'sponsored post'#but i have been paid in the currency known as good faith to promote the shit out of it#because i don't wanna see sites like this die out#we already lost smackjeeves#comicfury is one of the only survivors left

Weekly Update
Hello! A tiny bit late, but was more busy on the weekend that I thought I'd be, but we're making really good progress!
V's introduction section is all done! With a little bow tied around it and everything. Featuring two potential cameos from Z whose keeping a firm eye on the situation, you're sure to feel like you're being watched. Good luck.
Starling's Introduction Section is already double the size of V's, featuring two potential flashbacks to your Witch's origins, as well as at least three ways to figure out an extra clue about Luke Buckley.
S's Introduction has been outlined and ready to go whenever Starling's one is done, same for L's appearance at the end of the chapter, with a nice hot cameo of E being all smitten. Seir had ditched you for the first part of you investigation, but will be at your side for the second half!
Been thinking about including a quick start section for each book, so you can skip the intro and origins and go straight into the chapter. Also finally figured out how to make a greyed out effect for Books not yet done/ not unlocked yet.

I'm also going to code in a piece of art I've commissioned from a good friend of mine, @undead-merman ! That and also re-implement a cover to load the game in.
Arranged Marriage is so close to being done, 3/4 powers have been finished, but that will take roughly 1-2 days of coding since it's so beefy.
Also I'm still messing around with CSS, I can code easily enough when it comes to selecting stuff and things more intricate, but man I need all the help with making the game look better.
So, that's about it! After implementing quick play, I'll upload some previews of scenes by Beta Testers pick out. Everyone enjoy your Wednesday!

Panama marks 21 days of indefinite strike, amid repression and dialogue
Panama today marks 21 days of an indefinite national strike initiated by teachers in rejection of Law 462 of the Social Security Fund (CSS), amid police repression and disputes over dialogue
Panama today marks 21 days of an indefinite national strike initiated by teachers in protest of Law 462, the Social Security Fund (CSS), amid police repression and disputes over dialogue.
The general secretary of the Single Union of Workers in the Construction and Related Industries (Suntracs), Saúl Méndez, denounced the arrest of union leaders intended to intimidate the struggle against the agreement signed by the government and the United States that promotes the establishment of military bases.
The fight is also against the government's intention to reopen a copper mine in Donoso (Colón), despite a Supreme Court ruling ordering the closure of its operations, and in opposition to the construction of a reservoir on the Indio River for the Canal, against the will of the region's residents, he added.
The day before, the Panamanian Ministry of Education announced that it will withhold the salaries of teachers protesting Law 462, a measure deemed arbitrary by the groups.
Since April 23, public sector teachers have begun an indefinite strike, demanding the repeal of the law, which they believe harms workers and their families, privatizes CSS services, and hands over its funds to banks, while predicting miserable pensions—an unacceptable measure.
According to Fernando Ábrego, the secretary general of the Panamanian Teachers Association (Asoprof), the strike will continue despite the intimidation and retaliation by the government of José Raúl Mulino. He also announced that they will demand the resignation of Lucy Molinar, head of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
On another note, a government commission traveled to the western province of Bocas del Toro to speak with leaders of protesting grassroots organizations.
Protesters have been carrying out actions for more than three weeks, including road closures like those in the town of Changuinola and a work stoppage in the banana sector, which have seriously impacted the economy.
According to Chiquita, a subsidiary of the American company Chiquita Brands International, production had to be suspended on approximately three farms after losses totaling $10 million due to the strike.
The government delegation includes the Ministers of Commerce and Industry, Julio Moltó, and Labor and Workforce Development, Jackeline Muñoz, as well as the Director of the CSS, Dino Mon.
This first attempt to initiate talks with the protesters and ease the tense climate of confrontation comes despite the fact that President José Raúl Mulino, in his weekly press conference last Thursday, indicated that he would refuse to discuss the insurance policy and the agreement with Washington.

*EDIT* cohost is dead lol, don't bother
Tumblrinas, it's time for some of y'all to grab an account on Cohost. I know nobody wants new social media. I don't either. But tumblr is becoming increasingly hostile towards its trans users and its sex workers and in general is just becoming shittier.
Cohost is a web platform developed by trans people where transphobia is a bannable offence. Heavily inspired by classic tumblr, but much much better.
HTML/CSS editing in posts is possible, meaning you can make all kinds of cool shit - I've seen users posting games, I've posted funky text, there's few limits. And if you don't know how to do that, it's okay! Users have created tools to do it easily without any sort of coding knowledge.
They have an extremely good content warning system & a great content blocking system built in to every post.
Porn is allowed. Go nuts, show nuts. Sex worker friendly.
You can have multiple pinned posts!
You can make sideblogs with totally seperate following lists. It doesn't have to show any connection to your main.
The devs post weekly updates showcasing what their new improvements are, and they have bug/request forums where everything can be seen by everyone. Very transparent.
It's not perfect - obviously it's a lot smaller than tumblr, and a lot newer. But it's the best alternative I've found, and it's not banning trans people for fuckin existing.
Here's an example of some CSS crimes and the content warning system!

Day 7 - October 31, 2024 🎃
Another study day for the win. Spent 2 hours trying to understand one section of my AI textbook. Almost done with my website. I just need to tweak a few things.
Forgot how terrible I was with frontend. 😭 I hate html and css so much.
I made blueberry banana pancakes today 🥞. My love for pancakes has me trying so many different recipes.
My friends and I made plans to go to a cafe but as usual something came up and we couldn’t go. 😔 One of the reasons why I like going out alone.
I have no Halloween plans. Not a big fan of parties or Halloween anyway so I didn’t really plan on doing anything . 🪃
Currently have 5 assignments due this month. 📚
✅ 1.5/5 assignments done
✅ 1/3 weekly goals completed

📝Progress Report📝
Been at it for a while. Learning programming languages is a miserable existence, but I can't deny how rewarding it feels when something works the way I want it to—or at the very least, close enough to how I want it to be. Maybe once this first edition of the demo is released I can find someone willing to help me out with the coding side of things. It's the main thing slowing me down by now.
(Dunno if this look will be what you get upon release, but don't expect too much. The "phone" looks ugly, but it took me 2 hours to create it in CSS and I'm not keen on doing much more with it at this time. The sound effects are placeholders; some may stay, some may be replaced in time. We'll just have to wait and see. :3)
I continue to trap myself in passages, trying to make it look nice. It's the same old thing with me, but Twine has certainly been a better experience than ChoiceScript. There'll be some minor hurdles getting the game to run on mobile devices, but I'll worry about that later. Does this mean my hiatus is over? Prolly. Don't expect weekly updates anymore. I'll say what needs to be said, only if I feel it needs saying. I don't want to get your hopes up, and I don't want to make promises I can't keep. My goal is still to create an interactive experience where every choice has impact, but it's been a challenge constructing a narrative that allows that. It was naive of me to think this would be so simple, in the beginning. Maybe it would've been, if I hadn't grown so attached to these characters, as well as the plot. I'm sure this will all get easier with time, but I'm learning on the fly and my method of brute-forcing code can only get me so far. As the year closes in on us, it becomes less likely for a 2025 release. Aside from that, I am making progress. My vision becomes more stable every day; been making less major changes as of late. That's all for now. Thank you all for your support. 🤍

Monthly Recap: February 2025
What did I do this month in dolly land?
1) Funguary. So much Funguary. You can see all the pictures + their mushroom inspo by clicking the "funguary" tag on my blog, or in a fun trading card format on Memoa here.
My Funguary favorites
Venus as morel

Genevieve as Wrinkled Peach

Drusilla as Oyster Mushroom

2) Repainted, modded, and restyled some fodder dolls. These are dolls that have been in my sell bin for a long time and aren't, well, selling. So I decided to use them for practice, and it's been really fun. Rorelai (the Cave Club) got freckles, piercings, a new hairstyle and trim, and neck articulation. The OMGs got lip repaints, hair styling, and some eye repainting.

Someday I will figure out a repaint for these giant OMG eyes that I'm happy with. The main thing that annoys me is that they're always looking up, and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix that.
3) Found some new blogs to follow. All are still updating, as far as I can tell. Doll Nerd -- Fashion doll reviews Great Sky River -- Beautiful BJD photography and musings. The Doll Workshop -- BJD sewing and crafts. Just two posts so far, but I'm looking forward to more! Teatime Tangents and Toys -- A lot of Living Dead Dolls, but some MH and other reviews scattered throughout.
4) I started putting together the collector feature for Memoa's weekly newsletter 5) This is more of a "didn't do" but I successfully did a hobby no-buy the whole month, despite many temptations. I did not buy to numb my feelings, or get a dopamine hit, or out of boredom.
6) I did a little bit of html/css work on this blog. It's still not where I want it (HOW do I make a picture slideshow??) but it's getting there.
Challenges/Hardships 1) I left Instagram, because I'm tired of the Evil Overloards of Big Tech. Overall I feel like this was the right decision, but I still miss my dolly friends and the creativity I saw there. 2) I'm struggling to get this blog formatted how I want it. I don't currently have enough coding skills to make it look right.
Looking ahead I've started on a restyling project, to makeover the SH Neon Shadow band into a cyberpunk trio. I have big dreams for them, and will try to document the process here on the blog. I want to try to sell a few of my customized dolls, just for cheap (fancy OOAK fullsets they are not). The biannual kid stuff sale is soon, so I'll be hunting for toys there, but will try not to impulse buy anything that's just "okay"; I need to be really excited about it or have a definite plan for the doll. Upcoming releases that I'm excited for: Fearbook Venus...that's pretty much it. I'm enjoying seeing news about other releases, but none are any I feel I "need" to have. Hobby savings goals include: Smart Doll in Jan of 2026; heel feet and alternate hands for Drusilla.

GTS- Genin Training Squad
Naruto Military System
Disclaimer
As a Naruto fan and a former member of the Armed forces the way the Ninja military is handled makes no sense. Now I understand that Kishimoto has no experience with the military and that it would slow the story a lot by having it be like a real military and not a village of mercenaries.
_____________________________________________________________
After completing Basic Training they will then be assigned to a GTS- Genin Training Squadron.
After Graduating from Basic training the trainees are promoted to the rank of Tokubetsu Genin. Tokubetsu Genin straight out of basic training and the academy are not yet considered full ninjas as they lack a lot of the skills necessary to perform as a genin and as such they are considered student genin that are required to have supervision at all time in training and missions
1Genin Training Squadron (GTS) Breakdown
JSC-( Jonin Senior Commander)
5 JTI- ( Jonin Training Instructors)
12 CSS- (Chunnin Support Squads)
16 Genin
they would then be assigned to a GTS which is comprised of 29 squad members led by a Jonin Commander in charge of a 4 man squad of JTI’S (Jonin training instructors) and assisted by two squads of CSS (Chunnin Support Squads) as to prevent favoritism and to teach them how to work in multiple different combinations of a 4 man squad. And to also allow for the Jonin to truly see what the best combination of a squad could truly be.
While stationed in a GTS they will be subjected to the highest level of discipline, and as such the first 4 weeks of being stationed they will have their quarters inspected for cleanliness and contraband, they will have uniform inspections daily. they would also be punished for any misconduct including assault and sexual harassment.
Week 1
Living placement- During the first week they will be assigned and moving into the training Squadron compound in shared rooms of 2 and be taught daily tasks such as latrine duty or cooking detail while also learning the rules of the Squadron
Training
in depth testing and review of all the individual skills.
week’s 2-3
Training
will be set to basic physical conditioning and training of ninja skills, while subject to intense discipline.
week 4
Training squad they will be from this point on be put on a Bi-weekly squad rotation where every 2 weeks they will change up the figuration of the squad and assign them to a different JTI during which time they will train in adaptability and teamwork with multiple individuals.
Mission Squad They will also be assigned to a Mission Squad that will also alternate bi-weekly in which case they will be assigned to one of the 4 JTI and during that time they must complete at least 12 D rank missions under each individual Jonin instructor. In order to advance to C rank missions.
After Week 4 if they have shown competency in both maintaining military discipline and following orders they will be allowed leave time outside of the compound but will still have to stick to a curfew and may not stay out unless they have an overnight or weekend pass.
C-Rank Missions
they will not be assigned a (C) rank mission until they have completed all the required individual d level missions and have performed under all 4 training instructors a level of competency.
After Graduating to C-Rank missions For the first 6 C-rank missions they will be accompanied by 2 Chunnin from the CSS to make sure if they are needed for support in case of an emergency.
Graduating From GTS
Genin will graduate from the GTS regardless if they make Chunnin when they reach the age of 19 years old and at which time they they will be placed in the regular Genin Corps and or if they showed exceptional skills during their time in GTS and have completed the requirements, they will be allowed to take the Chunnin selection exam.
After turning the legal Military age of 19 they will be allowed to live by themselves and not be forced to abide by the strict regulation of the GTS but will still be subjected to the standard military law and will be expected to maintain military discipline when on missions and duty.
During this time they will be promoted to the Rank of full Genin.
While assigned to the GTS they are of the rank of Tokubetsu Genin
