Hair, just as the clothes we wear, is a way for us to express ourselves so switching it up allows us to do just that. 🌻• • Chaiyanne has been rocking her #curlyshag for a hot little minute. She wanted a funked up haircut with a strong angle that showcased her artistic side as she is an artist herself. I think it's important for us as hairstylists to take our clients' personalities into account when creating a cut for them. 💜• • For some of us cutting our hair releases energy & gives us that freedom to express ourselves through changing our hair.✌🏽• • This was a huge transformation for Chaiyanne & myself as she was 1 of my clients that has been with me since growing out her hair from her 1st haircut of her #transitioninghair from 2 years ago. • • As I grow as a hairstylist I alternate techniques based off of what shape my client wants. I wet cut Chaiyanne's curls to create this strong shape for her. Shaping & Hydrating 🌻✂️• • The left is after I cut the shape into Gabby's hair, & the right is after I washed, conditioned, & styled her beautiful curls. 🌻• • If you notice curls when they are fluffed out they are expanded, & when they are hydrated & styled the curls will shrink themselves a bit. • • Why? Because when we use water & water soluble products it helps to feed the hair to encourage the curls to clump more, helping you get those curls super defined. I diffused her hair after I styled her hair so that also made her curls shrink more. • • 🌻 Hair Nerd Moment: Remember that curly hair will always be naturally dry. Why? Because sebum, which our bodies naturally create to keep our hair strands moisturized, has a long way to travel up & out of our follicles because our curls are also curly as they grow underneath our skin on our scalps.
