I heard The Lord say in an audible voice, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

I lost my cool and yelled at God. Then I heard His audible voice say, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

I must have read the scripture 100 times, and had at least 1000 people flippantly speak it over me, but when I heard the audible voice of The Lord say, “My grace is sufficient for you” it completely changed my perspective , because it came with understanding.

To be honest I really didn’t like this verse very much. I became a Christian when I was 31 years old and in my mind grace meant getting what I wanted. My life had been a terrible mess and it was far from what I envisioned. Every time I would read this first I would cringe a little bit; not fully understanding it.

Also, if I am completely honest, I felt like people in the church used this phrase so flippantly. Life is hard and the struggle is real. We all experience difficulties, trials and hopefully are doing the best we can to navigate life’s hard situations and circumstances. I felt like anytime I was in the church and talking to someone about a struggle or difficulty they would say, “His grace is sufficient for you” and then politely walk away.

But my perspective changed when I heard the audible voice of the Lord in my heart. I was on my way to work and completely overwhelmed by life. It felt like every single thing was falling apart and going wrong. I was having trouble seeing clearly, my praying turned into whining and complaining. On the drive I started telling The Lord how terrible my life was.

Then The Lord spoke to my heart. In an audible voice I heard him say, “My grace is sufficient for you.” In a moment of anger I said out loud, “well it’s not good enough.” It felt like every time someone use that verse, they were not recognizing my feelings and trying to minimize the amount of pain I felt.

Then I heard The Lord say, “son, if it wasn’t for my grace you wouldn’t have made it this far.” His audible voice spoken straight to my heart. I didn’t feel any shame or condemnation at this. His voice was firm but loving, corrective but reassuring, it brought comfort, a sense of peace and understanding. I immediately found myself saying, “Sorry Dad.”

My heart was flooded with a revelation of God’s care, goodness, protection, and provision. Though in many respects I have had a difficult life, that was just the start and God was in the process of redeeming the ending. Growing up I had so many close calls with death; from almost stepping on a rattlesnake and not getting bit, to drowning and surviving car accidents. In spite of all the accidents, mishaps, bad behavior and poor decision making on my part. God and s good, still loves me and calls me his son.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV

[9] And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.

Daily Declaration

🗣️ I Declare: I walk in a spirit of humility 🙇🏾‍♂️, just as the Word instructs 📖, knowing that God’s grace 🙌🏾 is upon those who humble themselves before Him.

✨ I Declare: I receive God’s abundant grace 💫, for He lifts the humble and exalts them in due season ⏳.
