CAN WE TALK about how INSANELY GOOD this whole bubbline scene was?

Marceline looking away right after Bonnie tells the truth about the future of the vampire race.

She's trying to attack Marceline while she's not looking, and as soon as Marceline is attacked and grabs Bonnibel's arm, she just says "dum dum" IN THAT SUGAR VOICE. I'M NOT CRAZY, RIGHT? YOU SEE THE TONE OF HER VOICE.

The two on top of each other fighting to be in control and deliver a final blow. Marceline grabs Princess Bubblegum but then gets distracted and loses her position.

and then, they FALL. IN FREE FALL.

VK despairs when he sees that his daughter is falling alongside someone who wants to murder her. He then calls out to all nearby vampires with a roar to try and get the person he loves most.

Then Marceline looks into Bonnie's eyes as they both fall and says that if she kills her, Bonnie will die too. AND THEN PB JUST SAYS "TOGETHER THEN." WTTTFFFFFF

The music throughout the scene. Throughout the dialogue. As they fall, the music becomes more tense and deeper.

And then all the vampires show up trying to rescue Marceline, while PB tries to drive a stake through her heart, and Marceline tries to suck out Bonnie's soul. Fuck.

What a fucking scene.

For me, it was by far one of the most tense and tastiest scenes of Bubbline. THIS IS CINEMA!!!

I'm so proud of how Sulemio fans have come togther to support these girls, but also defend them from the flood of misinformation and bullshit. We're pouring post after post of love explaining who they are, why they're important and why we love them.

I'm familiar with Destiel because of the memes and it being one of the most infamous cases of Queerbait/Bury Your Gays around, but never interacted with the fandom (why would I?). And man like... the arrogance? They're so dismissive of Sulemio as "generic anime girls I've never heard of" and act like we should vote for them and hand them the win on a silver platter because of something like tumblr history or a the number of A03 fics. Those "generic anime girls" you've never heard from are currently kicking your ass, and it just show how much you underestimate the competition. Competition that beat Hannigram, Avatrice, Bubbline and Ineffable Husbands. The way they're so dismissive of anime and don't even know what Mobile Suit Gundam is is very telling that they look down on any form of media outside a very western/live-action sphere.

The majority of them can't give a reason why you should vote for Destiel beyond Tumblr History, like any of us should give a damn about that? I care about media with queer couples being important FROM THE START, and getting happy endings married to each other. Destiel's history has nothing to do with my fandom experience, especially as a sapphic women who loves yuri.

My Fionna and Cake episode 7&8 tangent

Lets start it off with the score. 20/20 it was fantastic. my stupid theory post will happen eventually, and I will ABSOLUTELY TALK ABOUT PETRIGROF

The star - Cake thinking Fionna was upset cause her fling died was silly, Fionna was clearly upset before about the candy people. The fight with the vampires was funny but intense, I love how Cake and Fionna care a lot about eachother. Also why does Simon know what holy water taste like. Pb and "Star" was so cute, and I was so right when I talked about us getting more Bubbline on tiktok (Tiktok account is not linked anywhere btw) The vampire world is super sad though, cause they had really been eating for so long, that a potential thousands of people died. Marshall and Gary really lit up the episode from the sadness once again, Gary's tangents of his candy kingdom are so cute. AND HIS HAMBO THINGY IN HIS CAR. Marten and baby Finn are so cute, I wanna legit cry cause HES MEANT TO BE A GOOD DAD BUT HES SO STUPID IN THE OG UNIVERSE. Also imma say this now, Prismo gets in trouble for breaking the rules once and ignoring a few beeps, BUT Scarab ignores several beeps and his entire job and doesn't get in trouble, that boss better have a good reason. Second date (potentially) and Marshall already introducing his boyfriend to his mom, damn. Marshall's mom matches og Hunson perfectly somehow, duche parent club. And Marshall's little blush of embarrassment from his mom acting all weird infront of Gary. Billy's corpse is messed up, like reall messed up, and the reminder of how tall he is is also crazy. I was also wondering the entire time if Pb was human in this universe until she bit off half her arm basically. The Star's outfit is so good, but I wonder how she turned into a vampire now, maybe she was bit in front of that worlds Simon's body and thats why she screamed at something. Already long section so I'll end it here with, I LOVED THIS ENTIRE EPISODE, Huntress dying was sad though, and Gary Marshall kiss was adorable. Closing thought of this episode, Bubbline but toxic yuri. Jerry - Simon and Betty better get a happy ending or I will legit be so sad, they love each other so much, and Betty just legit became part of a god over her Fiance once celebrity crush. I love how gorgeous everything is in this show, Orbo is also a funny character. I feel like someone could narrow down where things and places they go in this Lich's wish universe it'd seem fun at first then spiral though. Simon does NOT know how to draw though get this man an art class. The tree house being naked though, all its leaves gone. Lich's wish to kill all life, really just unironically killed ALL life, down to plants. Fun little references to old episodes, and including one that revolved around Ice king, hmm. Also I wonder the age gap between Betty and Simon, I like to see it as they're like a year apart but Simon just skipped grades cause hes a smart cookie. Also Simon had slides ready for people to be loud, HE WAS READY. Nerd girls in love. I am also guessing Bmo has been alone for awhile now, at least since season 5ish times since thats when the Lich would have made this wish. All the references in Ice King's junk from the melted ice kingdom. Ninja guide books, kunai, vhs tapes and the camera, the pink diary, his bed has the wishing amulet that Gunter used to break bottles. I was RIGHT

Fionna see's how unhealthy Ice King was, and changes her mind and wants him to not become this sad sad man again. Simon would genuinely be such a sweet and wonderful parent, he loved taking care of the babies in the baby universe, and he sees Fionna get happy when he tells his story with Betty and keeps doing it to keep her happy. Neddy is also guaranteed dead, already obvious but the candy kingdom doesn't have the juices being produced. Bmo has done a lot in his isolation, a lot of stuff is changed or moved, I feel so bad for bmo. But the lines "Help me zip up my bra" and "Ooo, butt stuff" Wow. The Simon and Betty stuff makes me so happy, they're so cute and I love them, they need to have a happy ending or I will be so sad. The lesbians ever, I love these lesbians, let the lesbians be happy. Simon struggling to say he loves her is so CUTE. Poor Bmo, I feel so bad, but he was probably so sad being alone, sad in someway. Petrigrof moment was so cute and adorable please, I want them so happy, they deserve to be happy. Now for the bombshell, Jerry. The Lich's wish monkey paw aspect is that he gets depressed and has nothing to do now that all life is gone. Billy's body decomposing as the Lich parasites it. SO, imma theory my reason for the portal finally opening to GolBetty, either it was because the Lich was used as the battle and influenced it in a way to allow it to finally work, OR Betty's wish to keep Simon safe truly included the crown being worn. Like the crown really did trigger GolBetty like "BITCH, NO" or the third that makes probably the most sense, The Scarab was literally about to kill Simon and go against what Betty wants, meaning she is going to interfere. I saw someone say that GolBetty likely wont remember Simon and this could cause something. BUT I REALLY HOPE THEY DONT DO THAT, I WANT THEM HAPPY SO BADLY

- would think candy queen is an “unfavorable” version of herself. Idk if you remember, but in the episode where butterscotch and gumball were playing a game, butterscotch was poking into Gumball’s mind and in his aspirations, one of his dreams/goals was to be considered a god/prophet. I like to think Bonnie thinks the same, given she’s just as ambitious (they’re literally the same person). So seeing Candy Queen is a direct hit to her ego and despises the idea of seeing herself be so insane. (Bonnie also was pretty critical of Ice King before Marceline asked her to address him/view him as Simon). I think after the revelation that the Winter King was directing the crazy crown curse onto Candy Queen would warrant some sympathy, but overall I don’t think she enjoys this other version of herself

- vamp world she’s like,,,, damn… should i get a haircut??? Thinks she’s badass. Still admires that she’s taking charge. Probably senses the gay feelings that vamp world!Bubblegum has for the Star. We love a tragic forbidden romance.

- reacting to OG Gumlee, probably doesn’t have much thought on either of them because they’re supposed to be directly mirroring the original. So I imagine whatever Bonnie feels towards herself and Marceline, is the same for the OG swap

- reacting to Fionna and Cake show Gumlee, probably thinks it’s sweet the Gary is doing what she does but in the form of baking. Baking is also a science, so I imagine she appreciates that. As for Marshall, well… any version of Marceline appears to be a dreamboat.

Marceline

- i think she would view candy queen with the same empathy/respect she has for Simon/Ice King, given Candy Queen is suffering from the same curse. Would be particularly painful given Bonnie is her romantic partner. She would wonder what her version of herself in that world is doing without her

- vamp world…. Never pictured butch Bonnie, but she is a FAN. I think viewing the Star would be particularly triggering, given she’s a version of herself that was left alone without Simon and was misguided by the Vampire King to commit atrocities. It’s probably worrying to think how easily misguided she could have been. Dark times, dark thoughts for Marceline

- reacting to OG Gumlee, same thing more or less. It’s just their original selves but…. Male.

- reacting to Fionna and Cake show Gumlee, admires that Marshall Lee was willing to risk so much for Gary— even after not knowing him for very long. That sort of grand gesture, hopeless romantic behavior, resonates deeply for Marceline. They’re both poets/artists that love deeply. Thinks Gary is a bit of a nerd, but a lovable one. Much like her own Bonnibel

Bloody-red sun was setting down the hills on the west. The northern wall of forest become darker and growing up circlin' above the bonfire and small camp. The night was comin' and all of the life sounds were slowly muted as life creatures decided to pretend as non-existed.

'Don't you mind to stop twitchin'?' You blowin' away a hair strand from your face and stare at Boromir frownin'. 'It won't help me, you know?'

'You'd better stay calm, brother,' Faramir winked dumpin' brushwood next to the fire. 'Don't you forget what she did last time when I laugh while she was bandangin' my shoulder?'

'I don't wanna know how could you fall from that horse! Was makin' the eyes on someone? Again.'

'If I knew that your heart is open, I'll never pay attention on someone else,' he put his hands to his chest, bended and looked at you with honestly-big eyes.

'One more word and I...' You was pullin' to the closest stick on the ground as Boromir caught your hands takin' your attention. 'F i n e.'

Faramir was softly laughin' while going to unsaddle horses, you can hear his mindless whistelin' and muted steps of hooves in the distance. The fire was crackin' and the air was filled with the smells of smoke, meadow flowers and horse's fur. Small moths were desperately flyin' 'round the flame. So close but so painful. You fanally finished to clean the Boromir's wound. His strong back and wide shoulders were under your hand with wet piece of cloth. Across the left shoulder down the back was bleeding wound. The skin 'round it was inflamed but this wound wasn't fatal. You frownded.

'You have to be careful. It doesn't makes any sence to die in the middle of the battle.'

'It makes all of the sence. To die for your country, for your family, for what you love.'

'Aren't these reasons are better to live for?'

'Sure they are. But when it comes to battle all I can do is go forward and stand for this. If I'm goin' to die, that's the will of Gods.'

'Gods... I hate fate. I will do everything to fight it.'

'You always did.'

It was easier to talk with him without seein' his face. He was lookin' in front of himself as if he decided to find something in the forest among the trees. His skin were red from the fire light, his hair were redder than always. Lookin' at him was as painful as touchin' the fire. Seems that you were the silly moth too...

You silently standed and picked up the saddle bag where you always put a clean piece of cloth for different cases. Boromir was watching you sitting on the ground. His shirt and armour were neatly put next to his shield and sword. He never was messy. Order in things, order in mind as he always said. You throw a cloth to his knees.

'Faramir would do it better,' you took a wineskin with ale from the bag. 'I'm gonna take a break. There's a rushin' stream not so far, I'll be there. Can't stand this road dust on me.'

Of course mostly it was an excuse to leave. You didn't want to stay there with him while he's without any armour. Moreover you didn't want to bandage his wound. Touch his hot skin, wrap your arms 'round his wide chest. It made you weaponless, it made you weak. And those long looks from him... made you feel naked. Damn Gondor captain. You quickly ran down the short hill, and cross the small area with wide steps, avoiding the tree roots. Bubblin' sounds of water reached to your ears. You went along the streamside for a time before stop and sit on the stone bank. The sun has gone but the sky was still in bluberry colours. The first stars pale sparkling from the high. Here next to the water the air were fresher and breeze was softly touching your face, neck and hair. In the distance from halfly-naked Boromir you can literally breath deeply.

You were heading to Rohan. Éomer asked you to come for a long time, so in the middle of the summer there is no reasons left to say no. Gondor brothers were a good friends of him too so it was decided to arrive for summer solstice celebration. Éowyn might be so excited. You spend lots of time together during your last visit.

You took a sip of ale, put the wineskin aside, took off your boots and step into the stream. Your skin felt cool fresh touch of water. The stream was fast but soft.

'I'm my mother savage daughter, The one who runs barefoot cursing sharp stones...'

You scooped up some water and wash your face and neck.

'I am my mother's savage daughter I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice...'

You unraveled your brades standing in water, bend and wet your hair. The water were running down your neck under armour and clothes leavin' thin wet paths on your skin. You smiled, went out of water and sit down on the stones pulling your legs forward. You moved your hand on the grownd next to you to find the wineskin as a cold steel touched your neck.

You loudly signed and twiched in fright.

'You're dead,' you heard low Boromir's voice under your ear. The sword's steel dissapeared from your skin and you rapidly turned around.

'What the hell are you doin'?!' You jumping up and pulled him in his chest. Fortunatelly, he was again in shirt.

'You left your sword. If it wasn't me, you could be dead. These place aren't so safe.' He looked serious.

'Agh, is it your unique way to show your concern? To sneak up in the dark, treat me with the sword and say that isn't safe?!' last words you said with his intonations. 'You're jerk!'

He peacefully put his hands up. 'Take it easy.'

You still looked furious with your wet messy hair. Your chest went up and down.

'Already take a bath?' he tried to look serious but you see small wrinklers round his eyes and lips. He barely can't smiling.

'A bath? Yes, you know,' you made a step closer to him, 'the water is amazing', you made one more step and put your hands on his chest. 'Wanna try?' With these words you pushed him into the stream but he grabbed your shirt and pulled you with him under the water.

You shrieked so loud so Faramir could heard you from the camp. Fortunatelly the stream wasn't deep so you sat down in the water spittin' and makin' your hair.

'You're sneaky little witch,' Boromir laughed. 'I'm kinda wounded, you're gonna drowned me?'

'I wish', you made him a face and roll your eyes. He stood up and give you a hand. You took it and he easily put you up, pulled you close to him. Too close.

'You're a savage, that's true,' he raise his hand and gently put away your wet strand. Your heart suddenly rushed as a traitor. Accidentally you feel cold and a huge need to stand to Boromir closer. You have to make an effort to breath calm. Deep inside you were out of breath and your palms become cold. You saw his face so close to yours so you could feel his trembling breath. His big hot hands still hold you firmly and you were almost dying here wishin', desirin' of his lips. He bowed his head to your face so your noses were nearly touched. He made a deep breath, touching your cheek with his lips, scratchin' your skin with his beard. His look at you was deep and dark when one of his hands firmly went up to your neck and dug in your hair. He pulled your hair softly, raised your head and crushed on your lips. You sighted, opened your mouth and felt his tongue on yours. Your knees were trembling and you're wondering how could you still stand but his hands held you tightly. Your arms rounded his neck, pullin' him closer. Your wet bodies were flamin' next to each other and you almost sobbed when Boromir made a low throat sound, bitin' your lip.

He kissed you like he needed you to breath, desperately, long, deep. His tongue circlin' your lips, licked your mouth, kissin' you with those passion that he did everything with. For you everything felt unreal and far away. Even this strange crackin' of branches...?

Boromir heard it too and slowly pulled away from your lips looking in your eyes. 'Brother,' he smiled, 'we were here for too long.'

You softly free yourself from his arms, your face was blushin', you both still wet and your lips...God, your lips told everything 'bout what you were doing...

Faramir appeared in front of trees. 'I don't wanna bother you two but how 'bout dinner?' He winked you and looked at brother with a huge smile.

'We'll be in five minutes,' told Boromir taking your face in his arms again. Your face flamed in the dark of the night like a fire. You heard the receding steps of Faramir and find in yourself strengh to look at Boromir again. 'I wish you forgive me such a rudeness and will agree to have a walk with me in Rohan. I promise I do everything right.' He put your hand too his lips and left a long gentle kiss looking in your eyes.

'Yes'.

@pizzee Thank you for the tagging me to join in on the TV show tag game! I have the exact opposite problem to you in that I watch way too many shows. There's so many I've watched in the last few months alone that I've absolutely loved (Andor, Severance, Poker Face, The Sandman, The Last of Us, Vox Machina, etc etc) but for this I think I'll stick with the ones that I've connected to and cherished the most of the years. It wasn't required or even asked for but all of you are getting Backstory™ for these whether you like it or not. Anyway, in no particular order, here they are:

Moon Knight: Wow, I like the show that is now my defining personality trait? Shocker. But, no, seriously, I don't think I've latched onto a show or group of characters so quickly in my life, or so intensely before. This show has (as of posting this) made me write almost 200k worth of fic about it. I got bloody Discord because of this show because the brainrot was so intense. I am part of a fandom community for really the first time in my life because of this show. It's no exaggeration to say that this show has had a huge impact on me; the dinosaurs got off easy in comparison.

Lucifer: I started watching this show when Season 2 premiered way back in 2016 and I was there watching it up until the end. It was silly and emotional and heartwarming and campy, and the characters were amazing (do I own shirts that Ella Lopez wore in the show? Yes, yes I do.) and the music was excellent. This show loved the heck out of metaphors, and I am not immune to that. Or Tom Ellis.

The Owl House: I used to be obsessed with owls when I was younger (the 'Owls of Ga'Hoole' movie was my jam, and—I'm sorry Zack Snyder directed that??? What the f—ahem, sorry, as I was saying:), and while that particular interest faded over the years, I do remember I was drawn to this show because of the name, and then the premise, and then the characters (Hunter gets a gold star for making me go "argh this guy is annoying" to "I would die for him" within a span of two appearances), and then so, so many things. I've loved a lot of cartoons, many of which deserve a spot on this list, but this one just hits so many of the right notes for me. I will die mad that Disney robbed us of a full season 3, but I will always cherish what we got.

Adventure Time: The first show I ever binged in full, and essentially what kickstarted my career as a Tumblrite (my logo was Marceline for many a year—if you find my *gag* Wattpad account it'll still be there). I still have doodles for this show from when I was 14 (many of which were Bubbline, which was also my first ship). I am the silly little Tumblr fool I am today because of this show.

Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes: I used to watch this show on TV as a kid, random episodes here and there, never enough to truly understand what was going on but enough to know the characters. It was how I first came to know Marvel, long before I even liked superheroes, and it was the reason I watched 'The Avengers', which in turn was the reason I went and saw 'Age of Ultron' (the first MCU movie I ever saw at the cinema) and then, well, the rest is history. But it all started here, with this show. (Also, let's be real, the theme song slaps.)

Doctor Who: specifically the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctor's seasons, though I love Ten's as well (even if 'Midnight' and the following Library episodes—episodes I now adore—scared me off from the show for almost 7 years). I might have also been a little in love with Clara. This show has made me sob with true and utter grief (musical motifs that will make you cry without warning and other secrets your Doctor won't tell you!) and also made me feel like I'm taking acid. It's got the range darling.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: I've watched this whole thing three times. It's just…It's good. It's really good. The world, the characters, the animation/visuals, the god damn narrative. I'm still in awe of how masterful this anime was. I aspire to this level of multilayered, intelligent storytelling… and also the level of comedy. It too has the range. And god I love when shows can do that well.

Bee and Puppycat: I used to watch the YouTube series for this (along with 'Bravest Warriors' and a bunch of other Cartoon Hangover shorts) as a tween and it's just a very fond, cosy memory for me. And now there's the Netflix version and it's been wonderful to not only get more of what was already there, but more to the story in general. My childhood self is being tucked into bed and wrapped in a blanket, content in the knowledge that things left unfinished are not always over.

That really is the tip of the iceberg of all the shows I've loved over the years but we'd be here for a month of Sundays if I went on about all them, so I'll take my leave now and pass on the baton. I'm going to tag @yellowocaballero, @mockspector, @theophagism and @aster-o1d. Have fun! :3

not a top 5/top 10 ask, but it's still a ranking question: you said before that Katara, Santana, Marceline, Korra and Asami are your top 5 favorite characters of all time and that Korrasami, Bubbline, Brittana, Hollstein and Catradora are your top 5 ships of all time. How would you rank the characters that are part of your OTPs but didn't make it into the list of faves of all time (Brittany, PB, Carmilla, Laura, Catra and Adora)?

Well first off I'm honoured you'd be binging my blog, hope you had fun! Second, fun question let's get into it.

Hard to choose between Hollstein and PB, they're so similar in terms of appreciation in my mind. In fact, one of the great essays that never was is a Bubbline and Hollstein comparison post. "Of Nerds and Vampires," ah yes, posts that will always just be half-finished word docs on my desktop. But all that said, Hollstein are so equally matched to me they have to be following each other and I can't bear to put PB third because I've come to love her so much. So:

Bonnibel Bubblegum - She wins out because she's SO different from what people first expect of her and I just love her in all her tyrannical glory. A much, much more complex character than many give her credit for and I adore the moral grey area she lives in. Definition of women can be war criminals too.

Laura Hollis - It feels kinda strange to rank her above Carmilla as Carmilla is basically just My Type as a character and I did start the series preferring her. But Laura grows on you and she's just so damn endearing in all her naïvety and relentless optimism. I just find characters who stay kind and compassionate no matter what so damn compelling. Being nice is a superpower.

Carmilla Karnstein - Do not worry Carmilla isn’t far behind. She’s the OG lesbian vampire, what else is there to say. Well, lots, from tragic backstories to moral ambiguity to a desire, despite all that, to be good in some way. Even if that goodness only relates to connections with others, but I mean what is ‘good’ if not what we do for each other. Very Character. Much Vampire.

Brittany S Pierce - I feel there’s a clear distinction between the top three and bottom three here but I still very much like the bottom three. I think ranking Britt here above Catradora is just me being in my Glee brainrot era because I do find the other two more well-developed and compelling characters. But just in terms of how I feel right now and because I’m actively in the Glee fandom but haven’t rewatched She-Ra in a long while, I’ll say Britt. My love for her is reignited literally any time I watch a scene she’s in. Precious unicorn.

Adora - Again I feel like I “should” rank the more morally grey character first because that’s more my type but Adora called to me. Differently than PB or Laura did, more in the Korra way. If Bubbline and Hollstein are parallel versions then Korrasami... well their parallel is Supercorp, but Adora is a different universe and hero’s journey version of Korra. You know, I never used to go hard for protagonists before Korra but here I am with Adora now as well. She’s Anxiety™ and martyr complex and truly just has so much baggage but she gets her happy ending and I love her journey.

Catra - I do have a slight not like other girls bias against Catra, I must confess. By which I mean that after a certain point a character gets so popular that even if you see the appeal you kind of get turned off, which I’ll call the Zuko Syndrome. Both because he’s the first example in my fandom experience and because, well, I think there are other similarities with these two. But for real Catra is a super super complex character and I’m nothing if not a lover of messed up female characters. Catra is so deeply flawed in a way that I instinctively turn away from because it hits too close to home but also am drawn to because the story is so... kind to her. I do think her redemption is done well in a sense that it’s not like she faces no consequences but she’s also allowed to heal and move forward, exemplifying what’s so beautiful about SPOP. Frankly I don’t think audiences deserved a ch like Catra, from some Discourse I’ve witnessed, but I also think SPOP teaches us that it’s not about what we deserve.

I actually really like this episode it's like my fav along with the winter king one so yeah I'm gonna talk about it it's getting the same treatment

as a whole I really liked how the episode was directed?? executed?? idk what word I'm looking for exactly but I could rewatch it a thousand times and still adore it in its entirety the a-plot and the b-plot are fucking awesome it's a marceline/marshall lee episode dude like c'mon (kind of a gumlee/bubbline episode too)

anyways to really get into it it's basically a vampireworld with toxic yuri bubbline

also shame on the ppl who clowned bonnie's design I love it she rocks and marceline is a star ofc I adore her

bonnie sees cake killing vamps like the absolute badass that she is and decides to recruit her so ofc fionna and simon tag along

cake is literally fantastic in this episode I mean I've come to like her genuinely she's hilarious but she kicks ass, she's got her powers in check and everything man and while cake is thriving fionna's morale is pretty low like damn

girl just discovered murder and isn't quite too happy about slaughtering innocent ppl because a hot ice wizard convinced her it was the right thing to do

the whole episode she's worried, scared and generally not as excited as before to go on another adventure because she now realizes that this isn't some rpg this is real and her actions do have consequences on the ppl she meets, the worlds she travels to

like look at my girl she's not having a good time this is terrifying to her (tbf she sees martin get his life sucked out of him soo)

speaking of martin ik he's like an awful dad in the og series but he's pretty nice in this episode I was kind of upset when he died like aww not the nice cool guy :(

Well, Amity definitely has softened up, hasn’t she? It’s nice to see... what would be even nicer is if we got to see what’s on that lil pink note. She seemed rather panicky... what are the bets that it’s a love letter to Luz? She’s been getting real blushy and flustered as of late so I wouldn’t be surprised.

Okay... yeah. Sure. Let a giant ass monster live under your school and have a student fight it while your other students party. GREAT IDEA! Especially when said monster is basically Penny-fucking-wise!

Can I just say how much I love how casual this show is about gay couples and crushes? Amity crushing on Luz? Normal. Luz crushing on all the Blight siblings? Normal. The two background gays dancing together all cute and shy and nervous? Normal. We need more media like this!

“Mama’s fun night out.” *snort* Eda has completely and utterly adopted this kid at this point. This is HER kid and I don’t think you can tell her differently 😂

Yooo! They did! The creators really had these two queer teenager girls dance together in a way that was very romantically charged! To fight a monster together! On mother fucking Disney?! This is huge!

IT WASN’T A MUM MOMENT. SOMEBODY IS SENDING LETTERS TO LUZ’S MOTHER! But they didn’t seem to know how to spell her name. What the fuck is going on?

Aww... I love how Luz drags her important people into the photo and just full on pulls Amity into a tight hug as she just stares, all blushy and flustered. That’s so cute!

Oh god. My queer lil heart is so full right now. Do you have any idea how much I wish I could have seen queer rep like this as kid? Not done as a joke or a flaw. Not done as some grand and dramatic reveal. Just normal and healthy and sweet and okay! Because that’s what it is! And it’s about damn time we started showing that to kids.

For people my age... we may have not gotten that rep. But today’s kids are and that makes me so happy for them. Bumbleby, Bubbline, Catradora and now... what’s Luz and Amity’s ship name? I’ve seen Lumity thrown about. But that’s awesome and I hope to see more kids shows just normalising this sort of thing.

reverse! whats your least favourite at songs

i even like the stupid terrible songs finn and jake make up on the spot. 

because the characters are expressing themselves!!!!!

i will admit however that i have mixed feelings on two songs: “Slow Dance with You”, and “Happy Ending Song”. 

The songs themselves are fine, but it’s their use as queerbait that really grinds my gears. 

“Slow Dance with You” was clearly meant to be sung to PB, which is sweet, but she’s not in the episode until the final scene, and then theres TONS of Wink Wink Nudge Nudge bait towards Bubbline in the ep, the sort that conservative fans would usually call you insane for extrapolating gay subtext from. It was 2018 (though it was written in mid 2016), and we’d already had other shows do way more explicit gay stuff than AT at this stage. We were on the final season! PB and Marcy had been dating since after Stakes! Why were we going BACKWARDS with how open we’re presenting their relationship!!!! We don’t need the wink nudge moments anymore, just have them talk, even if you can’t explicitly say they’re gay!!!! What made my head explode is when they had a lil “Hynden ghost” sing backup instead of PB herself. Which, yeah, alright that’s pretty fucking gay because the ghost is a girl, but STILL. (Imagine the world in which they sung this together) 

I WILL comment, as well as the fact that the queerbait in the ep was p much confirmation to anyone in the fandom the girls were dating (but NOT to anyone watching the show live), and Marcie sung an obviously queer song with a girl ghost (which IS obvious to anyone watching live), the song Slow Dance with You was FIRST USED in Adventure Time. I don’t know if that means it was MADE for it, but it hadn’t even been released until a year after it appeared in the show. This means the crew must have gone out of their way to commission it, or must’ve had connections to the artist. It was also kind of referenced in Obsiidan, where the girls finally got their slow dance :D So I have a love-hate relationship with the song. I’m trying to make peace with it and remove it from my other issues with the episode.  

Happy Ending song, however...

This one pissed me off to no end. Cartoon Network made a god damn Bubbline song as advertisement, released it “for Olivia Olsen’s birthday” apparently, but they wouldnt let it be explicitly gay even though it probably never aired on TV, and instead used it to market to Bubbline shippers.

Bear in mind, while this was happening, Cartoon Network were about to cancel Steven Universe over Rupphire. 

I was so unhappy that they were trying to profit off of lgbt fans while not being accomodating at all to lgbt stories. 

You can argue this was part of the process of CN’s national USA branch learning to accept the gay stuff even while International was banning it, and damn, the US branch sure accepted it when Obsidian came out, but I’m still upset.

Sometimes Marceline had bad days.

The door opened and slammed shut, the vibrations sending shock-waves through the house that made the pictures sway. Bonnie looked up from the treaty she had been drafting, setting it on the table in front of her.

“Marcy?” There was a groan in return. That wasn’t a good sign. She got up from her seat, pushing her chair back in so that it wouldn’t drive her mad later.

Marceline’s ears were back. Her dark crimson eyes were sad and angry, her hair loosely dangling around her face like a cloak. Her fingers were curled into fists, her lips turned downwards into a frown with her fangs peeking out. Her stature was similar to that of a toddler who had gotten into an argument and was told: “you’re stupid.”

“‘Just keep LSP distracted,’ they told me. ‘Make sure she doesn’t get in the way of Finn’s date,’ they told me. They never warned me that she would kill a man to get some good gossip!” Marceline shouted. Bonnie gently pushed her hair back behind her ears so she could see her face better.

“Do you want to talk about it?” she asked softly. Marceline sighed.

“I guess.” She threw herself down on the couch, bouncing slightly when she hit the cushions. Bonnie sat beside her with her hands neatly folded in her lap. “I don’t know where to start. It isn’t even that big a deal.”

“Start from the beginning, for a bit of context,” she suggested.

“Okay, beginning. You remember when Jake called me a few days ago asking for a favour? Well, he wanted me to make sure that Lumpy Space Princess didn’t get all up in Finn’s business. Apparently, he was going on a date, and LSP was basically dying to find out with who. Don’t know why she cares so much, she said it was the “tea” right now and she “needed to know who landed the hunk.” Sucks for her because even I don’t know who Finn went out with, Jake wouldn’t even tell me if it was a guy or girl or other. No species, age, or kingdom. I even tried to bribe him.”

“Maybe he wants to wait a bit before he makes it official. Also, he might be worried that you’d harass whoever he’s interested in.”

“Why would I do that?” Marceline asked. Bonnie twirled her hair.

“You’re like his big sister, and you’re kind of protective. Plus, you have the potential to tell me, and the whole Flame Princess break-up was kind of my fault in a way,” she explained.

“I wouldn’t get involved unless he gets himself in trouble. The kid has to learn somehow, and he won’t learn a thing if we try to protect him from everything.”

“He’s severely traumatized. I think protecting him is understandable,” Bonnie stated.

“I meant in the department of love. It’s best for him to figure out as a teenager just like all other teenagers. Can I continue my story?”

“Of course.”

“Okay, so LSP somehow found out about the date and we ran into each other just outside of Lumpy Space. She was going on and on about how she had to know and I was trying to tell her that no, she didn’t need to know because I didn’t need to know. Then she tried to say that I know nothing about love because I’m, and I quote, “fucking the most stuck-up bitch in all of Ooo and probably everywhere else” which, no, I’m not, and it kind of pissed me off. So maybe I said something insulting her taste in men and then she came for my music. For a girl who acted like a die-hard fan, that was surprising. She also called me a “punk-ass whore” whose only call to fame was “having a daddy that controlled all demons.” Plus some other low swings at my style and life along with more digs at you that may or may not have started a fistfight.”

“You got in a fistfight,” Bonnie repeated.

“Yeah. Obviously, I won. But I am now a wanted woman in Lumpy Space. Worth it but damn some of the things she said stung. I’m also fuming because of what she said about you, since calling you a stuck-up bitch was probably the best of everything she said.”

“Are you still angry and upset, or just upset, or just angry?” Bonnie asked. Marceline thought for a moment.

“Mostly upset, but also angry. Because first off, she doesn’t know you, she knows Princess Bubblegum. The professional. And if she wants to call you names then I have some choice ones for her. Second, I put my heart and soul in my music and I know I have fans, and every song is from my emotions and for some little shit to insult it without even thinking about that is an offence to every musician out there. Third, my dad is the only reason I’m famous? I’m the fucking vampire queen, proud musician, half-demon, a survivor of the Mushroom War, a survivor of the Gum War, slayer of dragons and vampires, former caretaker of the Ice King, the girlfriend of the Princess of the Candy Kingdom, a partner in crime with Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, and so much more! Her only claim to fame is harassing people, being a royal runaway, and a general problem.” Marceline huffed. “She went straight for my pride and it took a hit.”

“Well, you obviously know that she was so wrong about those two things. Insults coming from Lumpy Space Princess mean nothing to me because she’s had it out for me for years. But you are the best musician in Ooo, although I may be a bit biased,” Bonnie reassured. Marceline chuckled.

“More than a bit.”

“Hush, you. You are also a hero in general since you failed to mention that. You have saved my life on many an occasion, as well as the boys, Simon, the Candy Kingdom as a whole, and all the humans on Ooo. LSP doesn’t know what she’s talking about.” Bonnie pulled Marceline into a hug where she lingered. She ran her fingers through her thick black hair, working through the knots.

“How do you always calm me down?” she questioned.

“I don’t. You talk through how you’re feeling. It has nothing to do with me.”

“It has everything to do with you. You listen to me. If we were still fighting, I probably would’ve razed a village by now.”

“Those villagers should thank me then,” Bonnie joked. Marceline took a deep breath.

“Thank you. For just being there for me,” she murmured.

“Thank you for defending me. Just know you don’t have to, it’s the burden of being a ruler.”

“You don’t have to support me but here we are.”

“I don’t have to, but I will because I love you,” Bonnie reasoned.

“I love you too. So much. You’re a blessing.”

“That’s a bit much, I’m just a bubblegum person.”

“My bubblegum person.”

“That is true. Are you feeling better?”

“Yes. Thanks to you.” She grabbed Bonnie's hand and ran her fingers over her knuckles. "Always thanks to you."

Damn, well I don’t know why I sat on this for so long, as if I thought I was going to write something incredibly daunting and massive. Anyways... 

Let’s look at the facts here:  

Abed: A creative genius with a heart full of love who is cursed with a dad who doesn’t understand him and a mother who disappeared from his life a long time ago and a society that sees him as monstrous and strange

Marceline: Um, same

Both of these people go through life seeking social connections, but due to rejection, they spend a lot of their life alone. Then they find their people. For the first time, they’re not seen as monstrous and strange, they’re not feared or shoved in lockers, but rather they are welcomed into a community that sees them as worthy of love. 

This happens offscreen for Marceline, long before the show begins. But it’s almost heartbreaking to think about how she must have reacted upon meeting someone who wasn’t afraid of her, who liked her sense of humor, who wanted to be around her because Marcy fit into her lonely life just as much as she fit into Marcy’s. 

We do see what this looks like when it happens to Abed. We get to see Abed make some missteps early on as he tries to feel out the limits of their new friendship. Friendship is new to him! In those early episodes, he doesn’t yet understand pranks or lying or the need to perform gender appropriately or any of that weird stuff that seems to matter so much to Troy. 

Both of them are delighted to find, for the first time in their adult lives, a relationship where they’re completely seen and at peace. 

Then we have Bonnie and Troy, two characters who are honestly really different, but face some of the same challenges. Both of them grew up with a burden on them to Be Something to people. A masculine icon. An inspiring leader. In both cases, they need to be uncontroversially powerful, and that means performing gender in a conventional way that the people around them will accept. Both have a lot of fears about failing to live up to the persona they are pressured to embody. Through the device of fantasy, Bonnie’s need to perform gender appropriately is heightened because of the stakes: she has to behave like an uncontroversial woman, because what will happen to her people if they turn away from her and she can no longer lead? By contrast, Troy is lucky: he is just a kid in community college, finally free from his parents’ oversight. If he wants to take a dance class, finally, after all these years of repression, he can.

In stifling themselves for the sake of public approval, PB and Troy have become repressed, touch-starved, and lonely. So it really means the world to them to find a friend. And not just someone who looks up to them through the eyes of one of their fans (Troy) or citizens (PB), but a real friend, who sees them and thinks they’re smart and funny and interesting just as a person. We see PB open up to Marceline in ways she would never open up to anyone else, like when she makes mean jokes for Marcy’s ears only. Expressing herself in a way that wouldn’t be accepted by the public exposes the cracks in PB’s persona, and reveals that her relationship with Marcy fills a need for her that isn’t being met by anyone else. Troy, too, shows a side of himself to Abed that he’s afraid to show others, revealing the vulnerability and femininity that he grew up thinking he could never express. 

At the risk of being overly sentimental, it’s just like the most romantic kind of love there is! Through knowing Troy, Abed gives himself permission to be himself. He doesn’t become more Troy -- he becomes more himself, giving himself permission to love and be loved, because finally there is a person who sees his truest truths and loves him for it. Through her relationship with Bonnie, Marceline does the same, sharing her emotional maturity and tremendous heart with someone who values those things for what they are. And for Troy and Bonnie, these relationships are something real in their lives that are otherwise full of pretense. With Abed, Troy can allow his real self to shine through. His real self is loving and gentle and feminine, things that Troy was always afraid to be. And Abed has nothing but love for that. And with Marcy, PB can be unladylike--she can be mean and dramatic or goofy and weird and not have to worry about the political ramifications of showing the cracks in her armor, because she knows that with Marceline, she’s completely safe. 

There’s just something so loving about these two relationships. I think it’s that the love is built on a mutual understanding of absolute personal truth. Abed and Troy found that with each other very quickly, in just a few years together at community college. Marcy and Bonnie found it over the course of centuries. For all four characters, it’s a total revelation. 

And it’s just unmistakably gay, too--that fear to be yourself and the utter joy when you can be authentic with someone you trust more than you’ve ever trusted anyone. These are stories about a recognizable outcast falling in love with someone who is socially accepted only because they are lying about who they are. That arc reflects the two extremes of how many gay people have lived their lives throughout history, ultimately showcasing how those two different ways of living--of surviving being unacceptable--are not actually very different at all. But when you find someone who’s like you and sees you--the Troy to your Abed or the Marcy to your Bonnibel--life looks a lot different with love.
