I like how both the Total Drama and Danganronpa fandoms agreed that Island-World Tour is Trigger Happy Havoc, Revenge of the Island is Goodbye Despair, and Pahkitew Island is Killing Harmony (and I guess Dramarama is Ultra Despair Girls and All-Stars is Ultimate Summer Camp). Which brings me to this question: what is the 2023 revival’s Danganronpa counterpart?

Sad times ahead, but how do you think Nagito mourns Chiaki once he's out of Despair? How do you think he feels knowing his Chapter 5 plan ended with the deletion of her ai reincarnation?

Ouchies.

However, I don’t think Chiaki can be deleted. Even if Hajime is the only one seeing her themselves, the things she says confirms that it’s her classmates’ hearts that keep her alive. That their memories have the power to bring her to them.

Personally, I think Nagito is haunted by Chiaki. It’s pretty evident when he tries to keep Hajime and Chiaki out of his little fantasy world where everything is perfect in his supposed vision. But the thing is that it’s not. Nagito knows he’s missing something. He doesn’t want to think about how those two make him question his wants and ideals. He doesn’t want to feel that pain of loss again. It speaks louder than Nagito can actually say with his mouth.

The thing about Nagito Komaeda is that he is a very truthful person but his emotions are just not something he can reconcile with. They hurt so bad all his life because his luck hurts people around him. He buries that deeply and refuses to acknowledge it beyond “Well they must not have been very worthy then or this wouldn’t have happened.” It’s led to this lack of empathy inside of him to protect himself and partially from a mental brain disorder he has.

And I think losing Chiaki is different for him. It literally shatters his mind. It’s overwhelming that someone who spent her time protecting him and actually putting worth into him gets killed so awfully, that her Hope is snuffed, that Junko had won. As for AI Chiaki, it’s clear that Nagito is rather protective and considerate of her, that he values her way before her other classmates do… only to eventually cause her death which Chiaki accepts. She doesn’t even blame Nagito once.

All of this is just a long way to say that I don’t think Nagito can mourn Chiaki. I think he still feels her like Hajime felt her, I think he can see her message to him unlike everyone else. I think he holds a lot of pain in his heart but he would never wear that on his sleeves unless his relationship with Hajime and the others eventually got him to a healthier and more empathetic mindset to explain how he truly feels.

There’s this really beautiful post series comic by @ariespetal that I don’t have the link to right now that details what a conversation between Hajime and Nagito might look like as they consider their mutual loss of Chiaki which led to their future together and god they just really nailed it on the head! I love that piece with my heart and soul.

Otherwise, that’s all I can say. Nagito carries Chiaki with him like Hajime.

Danganronpa Ultimate Categorization

Welcome back to another episode of: Jade is a nerd about something absolutely useless! Today's topic: Talent classification in Danganronpa/Fangans.

In the process of making my own fangan/s, I've created a classification system for the types of talents you can give characters. These classifications are...

Arts: Talents that are involved in the visual arts, performing arts, or fashion. Encompasses performers of all types, any type of visual artist, or anyone involved in fashion. (Ex. Actor, Abstract Artist, Model)

Practical: Talents that focus on a specialized skill or work with your hands. Also includes any talents that are religious or spiritual in nature. (Ex. Mechanical Engineer, Detective, Shrine Maiden)

Academic: Talents that are recognized by how much knowledge or experience a character has in an academic field. Covers most science, literature, math, and research based talents. (Ex. Chemist, Theologian, Archaeologist)

Sports: Talents relating to athletic skill. (Ex. Footballer, Kickboxer, Bowler)

Novelty: Talents given to a person who is special simply by existing. Can also be given to characters who win a contest for their talent. Includes Lucky/Unlucky Students, royalty, and non-human characters. (Ex. Lucky Student, Student, Princess)

This system of classification was based on my experience in the community over about three or four years, seeing many other people's original characters as well as creating my own. I found many fell into these categories. My "perfect" ratio, which my friends and I used as a guideline for making our fangan casts, is 4 arts : 4 practical : 4 academic : 2 sports: 2 novelty. I felt this ratio kept things even and grounded.

A few months ago, I began to wonder if my "perfect" ratio was more of my own creation than an actual pattern I saw. I thought, in the event it was, that I would come up with a mathematically accurate ratio that better represented the talent distribution of Danganronpa and its fan projects. This was my attempt at doing just that.

Data Collection

For this, I tried to collect as varied of a sample as possible. I included the three mainline Danganronpa games and sixteen fangans, ranging from very popular ones to very obscure ones. The fangans sampled for this analysis were...

I figured out the talent ratio for each individual game by looking through their casts and sorting them with my classification system. Ultimate ???'s were thrown out if possible (such as in the case of Akeda Amusements, where Hanari was thrown out due to the fangan having seventeen participants) and if not, they were counted as novelty.

Also, shout out to Yuki Maeda and Teruya Ōtori for managing to count for two different data sets despite my best efforts at finagling a way to keep them confined to one.

Observations

The first thing I noticed in looking at the ratios for canon Danganronpa was that Academic ultimates are underrepresented compared to what I initially remembered. It had been a while since I revisited the mainline games, and it was a shock to be reminded of that. I was also reminded, but not quite as shocked by the greater emphasis on practical ultimates.

In fangans, the focus on practical ultimates continues to be heavy, with none having less than two. There was also less focus on sports ultimates, with the majority having only one or two compared to the three that the mainline games had a majority of the time. They also tend to have more academic ultimates.

I think that this could be explained by looking at the types of people who make fangans. The majority of people I know who make fangans have very particular knowledge about certain fields due to experience or heavy research, and more often than not these fields do not include sports. They are more likely to make characters based on their experiences and knowledge that they can then insert into the story to make it seem more authentic.

I also, unsurprisingly, found that my "perfect" ratio was not reflected in many of the fangans I looked at. There was only one besides my own that followed that ratio.

Now, if my "perfect" ratio is not the mathematically perfect ratio, then what is?

According to the data collected for the canon games, this is.

This just so happens to also be the ratio for Trigger Happy Havoc.

According to the data collected from the fangans, this is the perfect ratio.

The only fangan that followed this ratio exactly was Akeda Amusements. V3 also had this distribution.

When considering both mainline and fan made games, the perfect ratio was this.

Ironically, not a single mainline game or fan game followed this ratio.

Out of curiosity, I also calculated the standard deviation for each data set.

Canon Danganronpa has little to no variation, conveying that talent ratios are quite consistent between games. The biggest variation would be in the novelty category, making sense as V3 scaled down the amount of novelty ultimates compared to the other two games.

The fangans are shown to have a much larger variation. Though I can't be surprised by this, as perhaps it is an unfair comparison. The mainline Danganronpa games were written by mostly the same team and had less to sample from, while the fangans have not only a larger sample size in which to deviate, but many different writers that think differently about talent distribution.

Final Thoughts

In putting this all together, I found that my classification system, while not perfect in any sense of the word, has some validity to it. If I wanted to, I could definitely make some improvements to it (especially in distinguishing between certain academic and practical fields from novelty), but as of now it works perfectly fine as an aide in cast creation for me.

My ratio is also not perfect, which was an expected outcome. Really none of the ratios I found are perfect, with none of them representing more than one or two of any mainline or fan made game. While ratios like the ones I found can be good for making sure you have a balanced distribution of talents, they aren't required to make a good cast. Personally, I'll continue using my personal "perfect" ratio as a baseline for any cast I make in the future.

Apollo: Oh god does this mean he gets puked on? Clown: I FORGOR ABOUT THAT OH NOOOO Shuichi feels butterflies in his tummy and thinks he may be dying Danganronpa being a game all the local kids play is just, really fun. Like how in stick of truth they had the main classes and their leaders. They can have something similiar! (Am I saying this so ouma can keep child version of dice?? Yeah) There's a despair and hope side run by junko and Makoto respectively, maybe Tho I don't know what the goal of the game would be? Also hajime going "I have every skill actually" is so funny

Apollo: Probably who can out do each other in dramatics. It'd probably be a murder mystery probably where Junko pulls random people aside and assigns them killer and victim and they have to kill/die in a certain timeframe. Junko would help organize the clues and stuff and they'd hold the trials after. Also, imagine if Izuru was Hajime's twin who's like a prodigy or whatever but didn't want to play so Hajime just went I'll be talented enough for the both of us! Clown: Ouma dramatic recreation of his very serious death in the middle of the street gets interrupted by a car driving by so they scramble to wait on the sidewalk before returning to wailing dramatically Apollo: He finds fake blood and covers himself in it before putting like a bit of metal or something over himself but hears a honk and just throws the metal off and rushes to the side of the road, 'bleeding out' The town is so used to their antics that they don't even blink at the sight of Kokichi covered in blood Clown: Kaitos pulling him along like "go! Gogogogo!!" Shuichi's uncle is letting them use his garage as Shuichi's "ultimate lab" The adults are lowkey invested in the story line ajdvskbdk

Apollo: DICE gets in with planning deaths and stuff because they find it hilarious to watch everyone pretending to be dead/executed. They eventually get banned after everyone realised that Kokichi might be getting clues from them as to who the killer is "How am I meant to be the Ultimate Supreme Leader if you've banned my gang??? " Clown: Ouma keeps complaining saying it was totally fair because one of his skills is sleuthing. So of course he needed info!! "Fine!! They're in JAIL actually!! The reason so many of hajimes classmates survived is because he kept finding "revives" (a bear shaped cookie, or something) and just passed them out to his class He ran out before he could give one to chiaki… Apollo: Yes! Loser is finding all the boosts and is just handing them out Rip Chiaki Kokichi sulks for awhile until one of DICE tell him to grow up and cause hell for them 'Chapter 4.3' freaked everyone out because none of them expected Gonta and Kokichi to team up and kill Miu

Clown: YEAAHH, shuichis frantically flipping through the "rulebook" a spiral notebook junko gave them. "Is this allowed?? Is this allowed???" Their parents are watching from the kitchen window as they witness ouma and gonta put on the act of their goddamn toddler lives Apollo: They're so proud Shuichi panicked and told Kokichi he'd be alone after the trial and started apologizing almost in tears afterwards Clown: Kokichi was holding back his own tear tbh lmao Apollo: Shuichi was just panicking and wanted to seem cool by playing along with everyone. The second it was done, he run after Kokichi to apologize and tell him he didn't mean it Clown: Ouma sniffling and going "we're enemies right now." Meanwhile shuichis just [crying cat emoji] Apollo: DICE is not pleased but allow him to continue playing. Shuichi almost has a breakdown at Kokichi's death because he briefly forgets how dramatic the guy is and thought he went over the top with his death because of what he said Clown: THE CHILDHOOD ANGST His depressive episode when kaito was kidnapped?? That's him sniveling and going "I dont wanna play anymore" while everyone tries to convince him to keep going

Apollo: Kokichi huffs and gives Kaito his phone so he and Shuichi can talk when it's dark. Kaito isn't that shocked to see that Kokichi's room is an utter mess. He is a bit confused and possibly lowkey concerned when he sees the 'evidence' he's hoarded Clown: He's really going all out for the game akshdjhd His "lab" where shuichi finds evidence of previous killing games is a tent in his backyard OMG he's dramatically writing his "this is not a will" note with kaito behind him as he gets really into character Apollo: Kaito is concerned ™ with how in character Kokichi can be but at the same time is slightly jealous in awe because he wants to be like that. Sure he can play into the whole hero thing but the flu is making it hard to keep in character. Kokichi was the one to convince him to use it for the game. Mikan isn't happy because Kaito needs rest to recover quickly but here he is, working out each night before his grandparents call him home and fighting Kokichi He gave his grandparents puppy dog eyes and they let him play as long as he doesn't overdo it Clown: He didn't wanna miss out on the game!! His goatee is a piece of paper he taped to his chin To look "cooler" Apollo: Kokichi keeps trying to steal it as a 'joke', saying he can just draw one for you! Kaito naturally does not trust him Clown: Oumas trying to sharpie his face man They have a sleepover for chapter 5 and he finally succeeds Apollo: The real reason Kaito agreed to kill him /hj

[Clown went to sleep after that, and it's precisely when I bust in with my character assignments, so late it's no longer fashionable & I don't even have a coffee]

Me: Maki Craig, Miu Tweek would make so much sense actually, both how they used to fight all the time & the later relationship, Shuichi would be Stan for sure, Kokichi can be Kyle [haruruma was an attempt at Kai bait ngl] [about Kiibo as Butters] that I can wholeheartedly agree with no, Wendy is Kaede, duh okay, I am beginning to see the Junko Cartman, but for it to be really him, there needs to me more cringefail element, so I suggest Tsumugi, she has way more delulu [this is probably the only instance I used that word and I won't do it again, but also. I did use that because a character like Cartman can be genuinely delusional, like when it seemed he was just trying to take credit for the gay fish joke, until near the end of the episode when it becomes clear he believes his version of the story & is willing to die for it, it's just one of many examples when he just convinces himself of something so strongly, so I do not mean it lightheartedly] energy and that's a requirement here, we're talking about the most disturbed child on the playground Rantaro should be the french? guy that pisses of Stan because he's close to Wendy Kenny Ryoma would work, he's a tortured soul (I would consider Kenny Kokichi but I don't want to) Kaito really doesn't fit anyone, maybe he could be Clyde? (but honestly that gang would be hard to assign anyone)

Chee: theyre both fucking crying like kids do I can see it in my head, Shu apologizing and Ko just keeps repeating that theyre enemies (hes like half messing w him too) WHSHHS THE FLU IN PLACE OF HIS DISEASE IM FUCKING CRYING I LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH, Kokichi in this au reminds me of how Mysterion takes his superhero act so seriously imagine if Izuru who doesnt wanna join is the one watching out for the cars for them, he had a little chair and calls out to the others when a car comes by also Junko starting this whole huge game probably bc shes bored sounds funny

If you’re requesting something from Call of Duty Zombies, I’m still learning the lore and everything and I only write Richtofen as of now

For Danganronpa, I’ll write for the games only. I haven’t seen the anime yet, reason why I can’t write for it. I’ll also write for any character except Celeste and anyone from the anime and Ultra Despair Girls. My favorite characters to write for are Teruteru and Hifumi

For the Super Mario Bros Movie, I’ll only write for Bowser for right now

For Villainous, I haven’t seen the show yet but I have seen the shorts so I won’t write for anyone from the show only yet

I have the right to reject a request for whatever reason (I think I can’t write it, it’s not a fandom I’m in, I’ve already written something too similar to it, I’m uncomfortable with it, etc) and I might either answer your ask politely rejecting your request or I just delete the ask

If I'm obsessed with a certain fandom I'll be more focused on writing for it but I don’t mind if you request something from a different fandom (though I prefer if you request something from the fandom(s) that I’m currently obsessed with)

I’m a lazy procrastinator who fears I won’t be good at interpreting the characters well. It might take a while for me to finish your request because I either procrastinated, didn’t know how to write the character you requested, or both. Another reason why I wouldn't finish a request quickly is because I had a lack of motivation and/or inspiration which has been happening a lot recently, so if your request takes longer from that then I sincerely apologize

Please be specific when requesting something, if you aren't specific I'll assume you're fine with something random. And for polyamorous relationships, please specify the relationship (ex: Is Character A and Character B dating each other and the reader or are they simply friends who are both dating the reader?)

Question about the Remnant AU.

Who became remnants in your AU? Is it just the TTH class or are the SDR2 crew (or even V3) also remnants? Did someone somehow escape or even die instead of becoming a remnant of despair?

(Sorry again if these are too many questions)

Don’t worry about asking questions, I LOVE ANSWERING!!! ALRIGHT! HERE WE GO!!!

So basically, everyone are Remnants of Despair, However the only characters remaining are Makoto, Kyoko, Togami, Hajime and Shuichi. they are trying to save everyone else from Despair. Sounds impossible, but come on, it's Danganronpa.

Now, in ROD AU, Junko wants to make sure her "Children" behave. so even ROD'S have to follow rules, they can't do anything against her. but if they do, they get Strikes. Strikes are knife scars. and ROD'S can only get so many.

Normal ROD'S - 5 Strikes. Regular ROD'S can only get 5 strikes, and what's the final punishment? Execution. either fast, or slow and painful.

ELITE RODS - 3 Strikes. Elite RODS are more expected to do their jobs, so only 3 strikes. Elites suffer harsher punishments though...

Now if this AU was ever a Danganronpa Game, there would be an option to “Revive” a Remnant from Despair using Mitarai's Animation skills. You can choose to revive the characters you want, and they battle with you! sometimes though you have to choose either one or the other. and of course, everyone has a different move set, positive and negatives. However after they are revived they do not remember ANYTHING that happened after they got brainwashed.

...Now, Deaths, only a few may live. Depending on the route you take...
