As someone who had an grimwalker oc that's Darius's mentor, what do you think about Darius x Previous golden guard (his mentor) content?

Just... no. He's MENTOR! And maybe friend. But not the love interest, no.

I can't say anything positive about them as a couple, and i fell out of TOH fandom to came up with some thoughts about them as friends without going too deep in my headcanons and AU I'll just say that they respect each other and and were very close. And for Darius his death was really traumatic. So traumatic that he threated the next Gollden Guard.. well... very badly. (and in my headcanon it wasn't Hunter, but nobody but Darius knew)

What if Hunter was the only grimwalker without magic and Belos did that intentionally.

Okay so the other day, I was literally Just Sitting There and my twin @disastertwins9000 just comes AT me with this theory-and I was like b r u h. Because, that totally makes sense when you look at all the clues!!!!

First off, when Darius talks about his mentor, he says “he was the most powerful witch I’d ever known.” Well, you could say, artificial staff. Good point, but listen Darius went to school with EDA. Edalyn Clawthorne. The most powerful witch on the isles, dude. And he’s saying that the previous GG is more powerful than her?! The Owl Lady?! Ain’t no way Darius would say that if the GG was just relying on an artificial staff! Plus, how could he mentor Darius if he couldn’t do half the stuff a witch should be able to??? Clue #1 checks out.

Second, Belos says “out of all the Grimwalkers, you looked the most like him.” This would also make sense, because if all the previous Grimwalkers had a bile sack/some way to create magic on their own, that would not only make them fundamentally different from Caleb but also it would allow for more “wild magic” tendencies/mutations, if you will. But with Hunter, if there’s no source of wild magic contaminating the human DNA, that would make him the “cleanest version” of all the Grimwalkers-he’d look and act the closest to Caleb-bc neither of them have a natural source of magic. Clue #2 checks out

Lastly, it would also make sense for Belos to try and create a Grimwalker that was “weaker”, especially since he was only expecting Hunter to last until Day of Unity-it’s pretty safe to say that all the previous Grimwalkers found out about that, rebelled, and lost their lives doing so-it totally makes sense that Belos would try to make one that was more “pure” and less wild than the other ones-especially if you consider the dwindling Palistrom wood that actually became a really big problem, the limited resources that go into making another Grimwalker, and the fact that Belos didn’t need this one to be powerful. He just needed this one to last until day of unity, and he needed it to be obedient. So, all that combined, plus the fact that this grimwalker would be reliant on Belos for any sort of magic power, therefore this one would be easier to manipulate, taking away its natural source of magic makes TOTAL sense. Clue #3 checks out more than it should.

I don’t know if this one is canon, but the last piece of evidence that supports this theory is that there seems to be a lot of bad rap about Grimwalkers-well duh, it’s in the name. But if all Grimwalkers were just magicless witches, they’d be called like. Dimwalkers or smth idk, ain’t nobody would be scared of that guy. Especially if he had to use a staff as the only way to do magic. That’s lame man. Ur basically a human. Buuuut if Grimwalkers were a super powerful species that had weapon-like tendencies, and had both a magic source and a freakin galderstone in their chests, yep that’s pretty grim. Walk away from that. Again, idk if this one counts, I don’t remember anything in canon that says Grimwalkers were particularly scary, but for the sake of argument I wanted to include this point. Also it was rly smart somebody tell me I’m smart plz I-

So yeah. What if Hunter was the only Grimwalker without magic. That’d be wild and i wouldn’t cry. I really wouldn’t. (/fkin lie)

I love how we all just collectively agreed that Darius’ mentor had a lil ponytail. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a version of him without a ponytail. Just yeah, that man had a ponytail, no way around it.

Concept I made with @sergeantsporks , cause we need more Darius and previous Golden guard angst, especially regarding the grimwalker mass graveyard:

Since the Collector rearranged the head of the Titan to make the Owl House, then that means they likely scattered all the grimwalker skulls too.

So consider, a skull scavenger hunt to bring them all back to one place. They are called the Collector after all.

But they make Darius join in on the scavenger hunt. They have him find out about the grimwalkers, the full truth about his mentor, everything. The scavenger hunt is so fun it can drive him to tears. We will make Darius cry here, huh.

Somewhere down the line, the kids come back for the adults, and Hunter just finds Darius like, in a half-daze, surrounded by skulls and masks and he's just "I can't... even tell which one is him..."

Since Darius wasn't expecting Hunter since he was missing, Darius is gonna look at Hunter like he'd seen a ghost.

Hunter sits next to Darius in solidarity and in his own grief at the siblings he never met or even knew existed until recently.

There'd just also be this moment of Hunter asking him if he knows now, and Darius has to look at Hunter for the first time with the knowledge of what Hunter really is, that his mentor was like that, and that there were so many others like them that lost their lives before them. I can see some rage mixed in with the grief Darius feels for that particular scene, the fact that so many suffered and had their lives taken away, that this happened to his mentor, that this almost happened to Hunter.

At least they'll be able to give them a proper burial after all this is over.

Assuming that Darius' mentor wasn't named Hunter, can you imagine the angst potential if Darius slips up one day and calls Hunter by that name? Sure, it could happen when Darius is remembering some of the good times or if Hunter does something that particularly reminds Darius of his predecessor, but what if it happens when Hunter does something dangerous or self sacrificial? Like Hunter is trying to defend himself for doing something dangerous, and all the sudden Darius yells "I CAN'T LOSE YOU AGAIN *mentors name*!" cue the stunned silence from them both

I don't know, I've just seen a lot of talk about all the grimwalkers being named "Hunter", and I just think that the previous Golden Guard having a different name has a lot of angst potential as well

Sometimes I think about how if Darius had stayed friends with Eda and Raine instead of doing his mentorship he'd be in such a different place now.

What if the golden guard before Hunter found him and ran off with him? I think it would be a cool reality shift.

HONESTLY I think about it every day. Not even with just Hunter, I think about the possibility that Belos created more than one Grimwalker at the same time. Were there ever brothers he raised together? Ones a few years apart in age? Ones who were created while he was still planning how to kill the previous guard? How long did it take for him to realize that giving them someone to talk to, regardless of how loyal they were, opened up more risks to betrayal than if they were isolated?

The only thing making me pause would be that the previous Golden Guard was Darius's mentor, and Darius clearly had at least some care for that guy. One option is that in incredible feat of overworking that one braincell the Grimwalkers share, the old mentor decided it would be safer if Darius and everyone else thought he was dead. Something akin to Raine pretending to have amnesia to keep Eda safe. Noble cause, terrible execution.

The other option is that the previous Guard yoinked a child and remained in contact with Darius, or even took him along. Which is absolutely hilarious depending on how old the mentor is. Is he a teenager? Late teen? Early twenties? Late twenties? Good luck being a single parent to a tiny clone of yourself with nothing but your apprentice and his beasty friend for help, who also don't know shit about children.

Or even a fic about Guard's long before Hunter fascinate me. Fled into the unknown to live as long as they could. All the ideas fascinate me. Holds AUs gently in my hands.
