Vandaag voor het eerst weer eens in natuurlijk water gezwommen; zijnde niet zeewater. Want zeezwemmen doe ik jaarrond. Maar in de kreek, doe ik gewoon minder en zeker niet gebruikelijk. De plaats is ook niet als zodanig ingericht, jammer genoeg.

Maar voor het zwemmen, eerst kajaken, de natuur in, genieten. Een nieuwsgierig toeschouwer bij de voorbereidingen. En we komen gedurend ons gesprek op pfas. Pfas is overal. Vandaag voor ons: zijn de garnalen nog te vreten? Ja zegt NL. Nee zeggen ons zuiderburen. Hoe dan?

Paar dagen terug was Pfas bij Zembla. Een bedrijfje in Helmond loosde op haar riool, die dan weer via via overal terecht kwam. Waarschijnlijk ook in mijn drinkwater, zeker in mijn zeezwemwater. Ook in mijn zwemwater van vandaag?

Ik was benieuwd naar pfas in mijn bloed. Twee jaar terug laten onderzoeken. Lastig allemaal. Huisarts kon niet aangeven dat pfas moest worden onderzocht, bloedbank kon alleen onderzoeken wat huisarts aangeeft. Dan maar zelf. Ondanks dat plaatselijke GGD negatief was over mijn zelfzoek.

Resultaat was 2,27 ng/mL PFOA, 4,72 ng/mL PFOS. Naar het schijnt net wel gevoelig voor nadelig gezondheidseffecten. Net niet. Ga we nog een keer testen.

Maar hoe is het toch dat ik actief probeer chemische stof inname tegen probeer te gaan, maar toch die troep binnen krijg? Enkel omdat andere in hun geld lust, geen belang hebben voor mij / mijn lichamelijk integriteit.

I don't talk a lot about the fact that I also keep aquariums, so I'm gonna post a couple pictures real quick, just because I'm super pleased with one of the tanks in particular.

This is my work in progress axolotl tank. I just put the sponge filter in today, so there's now two forms of filtration, my HOB to the right and the sponge on the left. The plants are starting to establish themselves and they look soooooo good. I still might swap out the dwarf hairgrass for vallisneria, since val is a sturdier plant when it comes to salamanders that like to root around in the substrate.

There's no animal in there yet, I want to give the plants more time to establish, I'm thinking I'll get one in the fall or early winter. It's been almost a year since my last axoltol, Charm, passed, and I'm very glad I'm redoing the tank. It looks so much better as a natural planted aquarium, despite it being more to upkeep. (And expensive) There's still some things I want to do with it, I want to add a resting spot in the corner, and I want to add some floating plants, probably frogbit. But it's almost done!!

And then this is my work in progress betta tank. I let this one get really bad when the last betta passed back in like December, I just ignored it and let the duckweek choke everything out. I cleaned the whole thing out, removed 80% of the duckweed, bought new plants and started over. Now it looks ten times better. I'm thinking I'll buy a mystery snail to clean that algae off the front so I don't have to, haha. Plus mystery snails are so much fun to watch. Idk if I'll put fish in this tank or not, I'm enjoying it as just plants for now.

For reference, this is what it looked like before I redid it.

Fucking gross right??? Again there were no animals in there, I'd never neglect animals.

It still has a long way to go, but I'm satisfied with the progress.

Okay, I have a really strange AU-crossover "Winx x Ratchet and Clank" since 2014, i guess, and now i`m really obsessed (badum-tss) with it. Why Bloom and Darkwater? I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I wanted to tie Bloom into a pirate theme, and then I find out about Quest for Booty and my imagination was unstoppable
