after taking my kid to the studio with me the other day while i had my students performing their monologues they've been practicing, she has now found a clear obsession with chappell roan and her favorite thing to tell me now is that "we need a femininomenon."

i don't know if i get dad of the year because of that... but everyone in class got a kick out of it. anyway, i'm ronin and i own an acting studio where people can fine tune their instruments of success. i also have the coolest daughter in the world. how's it going?

Can the weather just calm down now? It's barely spring and it's already so hot. I'm used to it being cooler, so this weather just wants me to walk around like I'm on vacation most of the time. I can't exactly do that at work. Probably wouldn't be a good thing.

Has anyone tried just squishing the crabs? We're like godzilla to them, we could just...stomp. I haven't stomped yet no one get angry, but they keep doing this little SQUEEE noise and I've stubbed my toes no less than four times and I'm going to stomp.

I thought I escaped the quintessential "finance bro" when I left New York City — with the understanding that I would be swapping them out with another breed of insufferable men whose personalities can be captured in those Corporate America parody TikToks — but here I am, spending my Saturday night signing someone up for every subscription service I can find. I thought I had until the end of this election cycle before I needed to do this again. (And don't give me shit: this is the third tamest thing I do when I don't like someone. It just happens to be one of the most time consuming.)

I see we're doing introductions, so let's get this out of the way: I'm Mimi. I teach journalism & political science. I'm in the middle of my fourth appeal to get unbanned from appearing on CNN again because honestly, it's not my fault they're soft. I have never been bested by the NYT Connections game and I never will. A glass of red wine is the most effective way to get me to feign interest in something I don't otherwise care about, and if you're going to flirt with me then whiskey is your best bet. (Not because it's a guaranteed home run, but I'm less likely to toy with you for fun if liquor is in the mix.) I love Chappell Roan as much as any other sane bisexual woman. Ask me whatever you want and I'll probably give you an honest answer, but I think those are today's highlights.

Despite being away for a chunk of spring, and despite my most valiant efforts, rabbits have committed atrocities upon my yard. They have eaten all of my plants. Decimated by flowers. Destroyed bird baths and bird feeders with wanton disregard for the other wildlife around them. When will these horrors end? Any guidance on how to keep them at bay is appreciated but please do not suggest deterring them with hot sauce that did not work.

you cannot blame other people for your own inaction. you cannot complain on the dash about not having any interactions or threads when you've never replied to all the plotting messages, starters, or ask memes waiting for you in your inbox. i understand that the social aspect of rp can be paralyzing for many, and of course our lives irl take high precedent in terms of priority, so please don't mistake this as a demand for constant replies or a constant presence on the dash (that would be utterly unhealthy and completely unfair to expect from anyone; that's not at all what i'm talking about here).

instead, i'm talking about the times you are online and are here to write and have fun, and the times you are looking for new plots, new threads, and new dynamics. if other people have made contact, sent memes, wrote you starters, and all of these means of communication have gone unanswered... how can you grumble and moan on the dash about not having any interactions? reply to those ask memes. answer those plotting IMs. post a starter call. reblog memes. hunt for that old starter someone wrote you weeks ago and finally reply. if this is your hobby, and you want to have fun writing with other people, you can't let them do all the work. you need to contribute. you need to put in some effort, and the fun will follow.
