A lovely day in Saithe ❤️

All this talking about a potential sequel to the Little Mermaid 2 Live Action got me thinking about the role Melody could have in this universe, and the characters she would be closer to, and that was when I started realizing how many things she and her aunt Karina would have in common. I’m positive Melody would love the kingdom of Saithe, as it would remind her of her very first time as a mermaid, and she and Karina would bond over hair, harp seals and being the shyest member of their respective families.

The Little Mermaid (1989) v The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

The Little Mermaid: If you like music, it seems as though you should move "Under the Sea" because they've got the beat there. From concerts put on by the "Daughters of Triton" to multiple impromptu performances put on by a crab who cant help but conduct, there's no wonder why it got multiple Grammy and Golden Globe nominations (and wins),

The Great Mouse Detective: "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" really makes you sympathetic to the poor struggles Ratigan suffered at the hands of Basil! Luckily he just needs to listen to "Let Me be Good to You" to lift his mood. Plus this movie set the stage for the Renaissance era.

am i probably the only one who finds the whole "protectors of the seas" concept in the Little Mermaid remake a tad bit problematic?

the idea that each of King Triton's seven daughters are a "protector" of a sea, implying that he rules over all seas and tribes/states around the world

doesn't that sound a bit too imperialist? think about it: a European/white monarch ruling over multiple tribes around the world, a lot of which aren't European considering his daughters are ethnically diverse

(it is a bit more troubling as a Filipino having to imagine Filipino merpeople in that universe being also under the rule of a foreigner much like their human neighbors, especially one that's being played by a Spaniard)

or perhaps that's exactly where the remake will be going: a subplot where tribes/kingdoms demand independence (even threatening to wage war on Triton) and Triton will have the change of heart in the end of the movie to dissolve the kingdom

idk just my thoughts. the movie isn't out yet so I can't say for sure

I am disappointed the sisters arguably had even less to do in this version, and they didn't even get to sing. However, the aesthetics are gorgeous.

Class of Heroes: Daughters of the Sea King

As a surprise today, here it is folks, my first song short! This takes place shortly before Ondine makes the deal with sea witch Amelie to give her legs. Enjoy this jaunty tune and introduction to the royal mermaid sisters! As always, credit to @imsparky2002 and @artzychic27! Let the show begin!

Excited murmuring filled the underwater concert hall as the attendees’ cheers from the arrival of their king died down. Their beloved princesses would be giving a special show today in honor of their kingdom’s trimilennial celebration! And on top of that, the youngest of the seven would be singing before the kingdom for the very first time! All of the subjects of the underwater kingdom had heard the rumors of how divinely lovely her voice was, and were eager to hear for themselves. The production was about to begin!

Everyone’s attention turned to the stage as a jaunty tune, conducted by a small red crab who stood on a podium before the stage, filled the water around them.

Oh, we are the daughters of the Sea King!

The pure and melodious voices of the six merprincesses rang out as the two of the three large clamshells that rested atop the stage opened, revealing three of the six elder princesses apiece. They all had the same flowing red hair and freckled skin, and each was a beauty to behold!

Great father who loves us, and named us well!

The king in question beamed with pride as he watched the show and took in the admiration of his subjects.

Olivia!

The firstborn of the six daughters swam out before the crowd, vocalizing beautifully as she spun through the water, all of the merfolk in the crowd watching in a mesmerized state of joy.

Ophelia!

Octavia!

Olga!

Oona!

Olympia!

Each of the other five princesses followed the example of their older sister as her name was sung, harmonizing perfectly to the tune of the music.

And then there is the youngest in her musical debut!

The excitement of the crowd reached a peak as this line was sung, the princesses gathering in a huddle in front of the last shell that rested on the stage, still shut tight. It was the final princess’ moment to shine, at last!

Our darling little sister, we're presenting her to you!

Olivia, Ophelia and Octavia swam to the left of the large clam with Olga, Oona and Olympia taking to the right. Everyone in the hall leaned forward in anticipation. At last, they would experience the angelic melodies sung by the last of the royal family!

To sing a song Sebastian wrote, her voice is so serene!

The crab in question beamed with pride as he conducted the music to a crescendo to herald the shell beginning to open as the young princesses gestured grandly to who laid inside…or so they thought…

She's our sister Ondi– *Gasp*

The music abruptly cut off as the shell was revealed to be…empty! The crowd began to murmur in shocked horror, as Sebastian clasped his head in his claws with a gobsmacked expression. Where was Princess Ondine? The six mermaids on stage looked at each other in confusion and panic, before turning a collective nervous glance towards their father, sitting in his throne in the back of the theater. The king of all the oceans looked VERY unhappy as he gripped his trident so tight his knuckles turned white.

“ONDINE!”

Meanwhile, near a recent shipwreck on the outskirts of the kingdom….
